Changes in your child's behavior and emotional state may be a signal that something is troubling him or her. Has your child's behavior changed? Is your child angry, depressed, or have unexplained fears? Are their changes in your child's environment like a divorce or separation? I specialize in play therapy with children ages 3-12. Play is non-threatening and fun! Children use toys to communicate what is troubling them. As your child plays, internal worlds become external. Through play, your child can express concerns and work through them. Parenting is rewarding as you watch your child gain new skills, but it can also be challenging. I'm committed to helping families cope during difficult times. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist, we could collaboratively address your concerns.
I am also trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, which is a revolutionary approach to counseling. It Utilizes eye movements to process information and has produced effective results in treating anxiety, phobias, and depression in children and adults. I've recently become a Basic DIRFloortime Provider, assisting families with preschool children diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Parents are training to play while increasing their child's attention and connection!

Bio: |
I have spent over 15 years working with children and families in a variety of settings. I began my career as a teacher. After being in the classroom for 10 years, I continued my education in the field of counseling. I facilitated sand tray groups in a variety of school settings for a two-year period. I did my internship and was later employed at a domestic violence facility where I facilitated group, individual, and family counseling sessions to victims of domestic violence utilizing play therapy, behavior modification, cognitive behavioral therapy, anger management, and mentoring in a therapeutic setting. I also conducted child intakes, facilitated parenting groups, and provided community referrals. I have worked with children who come in with various problems such as: the effects of traumas of emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse, Encopresis (withholding stool), loss of a parent, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, separation anxiety or extreme fears; acting out behaviors such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder, separation and divorce issues and more. My passion to help families has led me to private practice. |
