Asking for help is not always easy. However, it is the first step towards feeling better and leading a happier, healthier life. Mental health is an important part of overall well-being. Most of us, at one time or another, are impacted by mental health concerns. If you or someone you know is in need of counseling, we can help.
Counseling involves a relationship with someone that you can trust, who will be an advocate for you, who will hold what you say in strict confidence, and who will not take a judgmental approach or decide what is right or wrong for you. This type of supportive relationship provides a powerful context for creating the changes that you seek to make in your life. Stonebridge Counseling provides individual counseling to adults and teens to address a range of concerns which broadly include: · Depression/Mood Difficulties · Anxiety/Nervousness · Anger Management · Social Anxiety · Career & Occupational Issues · Lifestyle Modification · Relationship Issues · Stress Management · Mood Disorders · ADHD · Eating Disorders · PTSD/Trauma · Post-Partumum/Women's Issues · Men's Issues · Substance Abuse-Teens · Divorce
Couples Counseling
You can be happily married again!
Relationships don't always work the way we want them to. When we reach a point of not knowing what to do, or how to make things better, getting help sooner rather than later may make all the difference. There are many reasons why couples seek counseling. Often, couples find themselves fighting over and over about the same problems. This can cause negative feelings like anger and resentment to build up. On the other hand, some partners find themselves talking less and less, while the sense of distance starts to feel permanent. This is where I can help.
I counsel couples using the same supportive style as individual clients. My primary approach to counseling couples is based on The Sound Relationship House Model of relationships developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. The interventions derived from this model are based on three decades of research. We begin by developing a mutual understanding of problem areas. Next, I guide couples through treatment using models of healthy relationships and therapy methods designed to increase conflict management skills, strengthen the friendship, and create a sense of shared meaning in the relationship.
My goals are to help couples learn to manage conflict in ways that actually create intimacy and understanding and to help couples build more positive feelings into the relationship. I will help you learn and practice new relationship skills, change ineffective and destructive interaction patterns, and build more friendship, intimacy, and mutual support. We will also work together to solve underlying problems in the marriage and to accept the ones that cannot be changed. |

Hello! My name is Kyle Kornbau and it is my personal commitment to provide you with excellent counseling services. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Kent State University and a Master of Arts degree in psychology from North Carolina Central University. I am licensed by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a member of the LPCANC. I have been married for 11 years and have two sons. One of my basic approaches to therapy is a cognitive approach. Cognitive therapy is based on the assumption that your emotions and actions are determined largely by the way you think about the world. It is the meaning that you give to an event, rather than the event itself, that determines how you understand life circumstances. Cognitive theory asserts that your thoughts and beliefs determine (or guide) your emotional experiences and subsequent behavior. Through cognitive therapy, you can learn to think differently, experience less emotional distress, and act more effectively even if your circumstances are beyond your control.
I have 11 years of experience in the mental health field and 4 years of experience in direct counseling and psychotherapy. I work with children, teens and adults dealing with a variety of symptoms and disorders including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, divorce, parenting help, adjustment disorders, child disruptive behavior, and psychotic disorders. I also provide marriage counseling (or couples counseling) to couples that want to learn new ways to manage conflict in ways that actually creates intimacy that leads to a more fulfilling relationship. |
