Practice Information
In my private practice I seek to create a warm and caring place for you to strengthen your self-confidence and develop skills that enhance your personal growth. I view therapy as a guided process of self-discovery. Whether it begins in response to a traumatic event or at a time when positive change is sought, old patterns of behavior and thought can stand in the way of healthy communication and exchange of feelings. Therapy provides access to methods that strengthen skills so that new and healthier thoughts, feelings and behaviors take the place of old unhealthy ones. The therapuetic approach is determined by your needs and is strength based. The process is guided by the belief that you already possess the ability to make things better. It takes courage to reach out to a professional therapist. My style is down-to-earth and emphasizes supportive listening so that you feel understood. I provide specific feedback throughout the process that helps you work toward your goals. In working together, we can discover the strategies that work best for you.
Counseling services are available to individuals, couples, children, adolescents and families.

Bio:
I recieved my Masters degree in Social Work in 1986. For several years I worked with organizations providing direct counseling services to clients who struggled with addiction. Later on I managed several programs in the criminal justice field, continuing to help individuals and families affected by addiction. I also taught on the university level. For the past ten years I have managed my private practice and continued to work with individuals, couples and families. Areas of special interest include treating anxiety and depression, helping adolescents develop their identities and build self-esteem, and helping couples communicate more effectively. I enjoy working with parents who seek coaching and skills building. I also supervise LMSW and LCSW professionals.
