Practice Information
I worked for the State of Utah as a Family Preservation Therapist (PFP) from June 2004 to July 2008. I was part of a team whose services were court ordered. The primary task was to intervene with families whose children were involved with the juvenile justice system. My task was to engage any person or community partner who could assist the family and adolescent achieve success. The goal was to avoid further involvement in the juvenile justice system. Community partners included, judges, probation officers, extended family members, teachers, school counselors, religious members. Anyone who might be enlisted to help the family and provide support was included as a member of the family team. This was an expensive intervention and the program ran out of money. I then went to work as a caseworker for the Oquirrh Region of the Division of Child and Family Services. There I worked with families who were referred for services by teachers, law enforcement, or concerned citizens. The position lasted until 2008. At that time, I left state employment and took time off because of my own health concerns. I returned to work as a private practitioner. I have been self employed since October 2009.

My father worked for the US government. I lived in 3 other countries as a child: Japan, India and Sweden. In 1977, I found out that an undiagnosed strep infection in childhood had caused scarring in my kidneys, and they would eventually fail completely. In 1987, my health really deteriorated. My kidneys were shutting down, and I went on dialysis. I went into complete renal failure in 1991 when I was 39. My sister was a compatible match, and she donated one of her kidneys to me. Family support has made an enormous difference in my life. My children grew up in Utah, and I still live in Salt Lake. My oldest son lives and works in Salt Lake, and my other son has been deployed to the Middle East for several years. In 2000, I decided to return to graduate school. I received my Masters Degree in Counseling in 2003, and my license to practice in 2006. will take antirejection meds for my entire life. This disease and treatment modality now inform all of my important life decisions. The drugs are very expensive, and I now suffer from an arthritic condition which is the result of my long term drug regieme. I am now 59 years old, I have a great deal to offer as a result of life experience and the knowledge that I have acquired.
