Megan Strange, M.A., LPC
Mental Health Counselor / Therapist
Fairfax, VA 22030
Therapy typically begins with a phone call or an email. Feel free to contact Megan either way, as she will respond within the same day unless specifically noted otherwise on voice mail or by "out of office" automated email response. The initial phone or email consultation is free of charge. Megan will most likely ask you some basic information over the phone, such as the following: Referral Source (Primary Care Physician, Pediatrician, Psychiatrist, Friend/Family Member, Internet, etc...) Presenting problem (Briefly, what brings you to therapy?) If you are a parent of a child for whom you are seeking services, where does he/she attend school? What grade is he/she in currently? Is he/she receiving any special education services? Demographic information, such as name, phone number, address, marital status, etc... Any prior mental health treatment? Inpatient hospitalizations, rehabilitation, or outpatient services? Insurance information (company, policy, your understanding of how your insurance covers or does not cover "behavioral health" or "mental health" treatment) What information you would like to have prior to your initial session? Megan will also provide you some information on what to expect and what to bring to your initial session. If you have been referred by a physician or other health care provider and would like her to have access to your records or other information, you may either sign a release upon the initial appointment or may bring a copy of your provider's release form signed by you. The next step in beginning therapy is to schedule and participate an initial intake appointment in the office. The first session is 75 minutes long, as it usually involves further information gathering and treatment planning. Depending on your reason for coming to therapy, this initial session will provide an opportunity to get acquainted and for Megan to begin developing an understanding of how she can best be of help to you, your child or adolescent, or your family as a whole. After the initial session, if you decide to continue therapy, you will have the opportunity to schedule the next session or two. Some people prefer to have a weekly standing appointment and others need more flexibility in scheduling ahead of time. Subsequent sessions will typically be 50 minutes in duration, unless requested otherwise or in more crisis-oriented situations.

It is my honor to help others successfully navigate the challenges in life. Whether it’s difficulties with alcohol or drugs, relationships, or emotional problems I offer realistic, creative, and solution-focused assistance to help people become the people they were meant to be. My focus in counseling is to do everything I can to help others achieve what they want and live a more fulfilling life. I believe people have the solutions within themselves to address the issues they identify but occasionally need some help along the way to achieve their goals. One of the distinctive parts of the services I offer is that I enjoy meeting my clients in a setting that is most comfortable to them which is usually not in some of the offices I partner with. I am willing to come to your office, visit your home, or meet you somewhere in the community where your confidentiality will be maintained. It is my honor to help others successfully navigate the challenges in life and I will work diligently to help you achieve your goals. I look forward to working with you to improve your quality of life, build on your own potential, and achieve personal goals. By the time we finish working together you should be able to do more than simply survive, but to thrive and have a more positive outlook by becoming the person you were meant to be in all areas of life with a concentration on prevention, exploration, growth, and forward movement. Contact me for a free evaluation of your needs.

Collaborative Divorce: The Kind and Gentle Approach
Therapy: A Gateway to Personal Growth and Peace
Welcome. I am so glad you are here and want to support you in gathering information as you make this important decision to find either a therapist or a collaborative divorce coach. Choosing a therapist or coach involves finding someone with the right training and credentials but also someone with whom you will feel comfortable as you approach this challenging process. I am sure you are looking for someone with both experience and training in the type of difficulty you are experiencing and who practices in a way that fits your personality, values and goals. Though I provide both therapy and divorce coaching, I do not provide both services to the same person as they are distinctly different services designed to address very different needs. I hope that you will make yourself at home on my site and learn more about the services I provide, how I practice and if I might be a good fit for you or could help you find someone who would be a good fit. Though I have tried to anticipate your questions and concerns, I am sure that you may have questions that I have not addressed. You are welcome to call me to further explore those questions and/or concerns.

Letting go of yesterday - Rethinking your way of thinking
Taking Action -Transformation- Change -A New Day!
Dawn of a New Day’s mission is to offer holistic care whenever and wherever it can in helping to serve the needs of our people. We feel one way of accomplishing this is by offering counseling services at very affordable rates. Whether you are seeking help with difficult family issues, parent-child relationship issues, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders, preparing for marriage, researching career options or repairing an important relationship, Pastoral counseling and psychotherapy can provide answers and insights. By integrating a thorough understanding of God's Word with counseling methods and techniques that have been developed and proven to be effective we will work in collaboration with you to help you overcome your difficulties . The Difference Between Counseling and Psychotherapy As we work with you we may involve one or both of these approaches depending on the problems and goals you present. We need to remember that insight does not necessarily lead to change. It can provide some relief to understand about why we’re the way we are but it takes creative thinking and action to make changes. The Aim: Transformation by letting go of yesterday, taking action to rethink your ways of thinking to achieve a wonderful change in your life!
