I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2001. My clients consist of athletes, people with injuries and others looking for stress management and relaxation. I use hypoallergenic, natural oils, lotions and aromatherapy for my treatment sessions. The setting for my sessions is private and quiet with the sound of relaxing music and ocean waves in the background. I can provide either a well lit room or a very dark room depending on client preference. Swedish Massage - a full body of relaxation massage combined with a system of active and passive exercises for the muscles and joints. It typically incorporates the 5 strokes of effleurage, petrissage, fricton vibration and tapotement. Structural Integration Technique - involves a series of soft tissue manipulations designed to organized soft tissue relationships to realign the body structurally to harmonized its fundamental movement patterns. Myofascial Release - more gentle form of Rolfing directly on fascia to release chronic tension, muscle pain and dysfunction. Deep Tissue - focuses on deeper layers of muscle tissue. Aims to release chronic patterns of tension in body through slow strokes on contracted areas going across the fibers of muscles, tendons and fascia. Sports Massage - Used before, during and after athletic events. Prepares athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to prevent flexibility and prevent injuries. Accupressure- Involves applying pressure to certain points throughout the body to balance out the flow of Qi (energy) in the body, thereby promoting good health. Trager - Gentle rocking and rolling of client to encourage release, loosing and softening. It unblocks neuromuscular patterns that inhibit the body's natural free-flowing motion.

Susan Peterson, CAMTC #1039, NCTMB
Massage Therapist
Costa Mesa, CA 92865
Experienced, Effective Massage Therapy
Deep tissue and sports massage for wellness and performance. Each massage is tailored to the current goals of clients, such as relief of pain, improved flexibility, more energy, stamina, etc. Many clients have been with me for several years as they meet their goals and set new ones. Getting there is fun! Sometimes performance goals are athletic, like running marathons or improving golf scores. Regular therapeutic massage is a major factor in preventing injuries as well as maintaining health. I practice massage with empathy. I understand the pain and limitations of conditiions such as migraines, fibromyalgia and TMJ. I work to improve quality of life and eliminating headaches and back pain. Understanding dysfunction and feeling it helps me devise massage techniques to resolve those problems and eliminate patterns that produce them. My toolbox is equipped with many different massage techniques -- neuromuscular, sports, Swedish, lymphatic and active release to name a few - and I use combinations of those techniques to achieve results. Those combos help dislodge chronic knots and erase patterns. If a client tells me they always have a knot in a certain area of the shoulder, I use several techniques to remove the knot for good. I also draw on my experience as a medical writer and researcher to find ways to get rid of stubborn patterns. Often what works for athletes trying to overcome a touchy hamstring often works as well for people trying to erase tension from an old whiplash. Who knew?
