Effective Counseling for Adolescents, Teens and Adults
Individual and Family Therapy
I provide individual and family counseling to all kinds of people with all kinds of struggles, from adolescence through adulthood. I specialize in treatment of anxiety and depression, but I am especially interested in the circumstances that cause them. This can include difficult life transitions, social problems, romantic relationship issues, family conflict, low self-esteem, grief and loss, history of abuse and anger problems--just to name a few. I also work with individuals who have undergone trauma. My goal is to give you some coping skills to help you feel better immediately, while working on the larger issues in need of change. My approach is broad, and combines elements of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal and family systems therapies. Most importantly, I am strengths-based. I design the therapeutic intervention around the unique strengths and needs of each client.
I believe that success in counseling is largely about finding the right fit with your therapist. That's why I offer a free hour of consultation, either by phone or in person. If you are under the age of 18, you are welcome to bring a trusted adult.
Education/Training
I recieved my Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago in 2000. I specialized in a dual-track of clinical social work and school social work. My training included Psychodynamic theory, Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, Behavioral therapy, Family Systems therapy and groupwork. Since then I have built upon that education with therapuetic intervention training in areas of interest, including the Gottman Method for marital therapy, Mindfulness-based treatment of anxiety, and Trauma-focused Cognitive-Behavioral therapy. I frequently attend workshops to keep abreast of the current research-based forms of treatment.
Bio
I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience working with adolescents, teens and their families. I started my career in the juvenile court system. I was told by a colleague that I was "too kind" and "too interested" in the teens that I worked with, and that I really should go into counseling. I agreed! Since then I have provided counseling in foster care, a homeless shelter, community mental health, schools and my own private practice. I have 10+ years working in schools; providing counseling to adolescents and teens with mild to severe emotional and behavioral problems, with diagnoses including ADHD, ODD, Bipolar Disorder, Mood disorders, and the Autism Spectrum. I am very knowledgeable of the educational system, and enjoy interfacing with schools to help resolve school-related problems. I love what I do, and can honestly say that I feel honored to be invited to listen to my client's stories.
In my free time I enjoy running, yoga, hiking, reading a good book and sharing food with family and friends.

I maintain memberships with the Seattle Counselor's Association, Washington Counselor's Association, National Association of Social Workers and the Washington Association of School Social Workers.
