Improve the Quality of Your Life
Dr. Kathryn Rickard
By cultivating self-knowledge, I help teenagers and adults of all ages:
* Better understand themselves and the obstacles that have stopped their growth
* Regain mental balance and serenity
* Build satisfying relationships
* Find personal direction and meaning
People seek psychotherapy for a variety of reasons: The strain of daily life can overwhelm us, disorganizing our relationships and our work; forgotten, unfinished business from childhood can strike unexpectedly, plunging us into panic or deep depression; loneliness, by degrees, can become unendurable. Very few can solve these problems by themselves. But almost everyone can use therapy, a safe, receptive, and confidential setting, to resolve or improve their emotional crises and, beyond that, to reach higher levels of maturity.

Bio
I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, CA. – a leading institution in the movement towards an integrative understanding of humans and their world. For the past 8 years, I have worked with children, teenagers and adults, individually or in groups, of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. I have worked in urban forensic inpatient drug rehabilitation centers, counseling centers, and private practice. As a psychoanalytically-oriented psychotherapist, I see self-knowledge as both the primary aim of therapy and the basis of health.
PHILOSOPHY
All people have a drive to learn about themselves, and when ill, to understand the personal meanings of their illness. I believe that all people, when given support, help, and knowledge of the mind, can heal. And I believe that most people can understand, with help, how unconscious conflicts cause illness, and that this understanding, and only this understanding, can sustain well-being.
