Bio
Steven Keeler is a licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience working with families and children. He has served as social worker/therapist for foster agencies, group homes, and as a clinician for a nationally recognized, full inclusion program for severely emotionally disturbed children. Steven developed successful Domestic Violence Programs, and in-home counseling programs.

He has worked with a wide variety of cultures and diversity: college students; K-12 grade students, many with learning disabilities or mental health diagnoses; violent men; addicts and alcoholics; battered women; rape victims; gang members; hospital patients and staff; foster parents and children; group home children and staff; many county agencies and incarcerated men and women.

In his spiritual, educational and personal quest for growth, Steven has studied with Buddhist Monks, Native American Medicine People (Sioux, Maidu, and Athabascan), a traditional Mexican Folk Healer (Curandero), Catholic Priests, and shamans from other cultures. He is currently studying with a Hawaiian Kupuna (elder).

For the last 15 years, Steven has studied the work of Virginia Satir, a pioneer in the world of Psychotherapy, and has been recognized for his excellent work by Avanta, Satir’s international organization designed to empower and heal people. He is one of 30 people in the world to be invited and trained in the innovative Systemic Brief Therapy, based on the work of Satir.

More recently, Steven has devoted his life to learning how to use joy rather than fear as the primary motivator of our actions. To that end, he has developed a very successful therapy “class” called Creating More of What Makes Your Heart Sing. This experiential class came after 15 years of working with people who appeared to have everything money could buy, but were empty and dissatisfied inside. This class is offered around the country, and is currently being re-designed to be offered on-line.

He teaches classes, workshops, offers retreats, and is writing 2 books: “But How Will I Live, Eat or Pay for Gas?" (due out 2011), and “Sacred Knowingness.” A humorous and transformative work for those in search of fulfillment and health.

You will find Steven amazingly approachable, humorous and deeply devoted to his work. He blends laughter and fun with deep and transformative, experiential processes.

"Steven is a caring, bright therapist. His joy of life comes through in his work. His experience with a wide variety of people in many contexts has taught him how to be creative and adaptive as a teacher and as a therapist. He loves racing cars and he brings that same kind of energy to his work, both deal with change and the unknown. Stevens job is to help people navigate through their process of change."

"Steven is a detailed, careful, sympathetic and respectful consultant/therapist, who takes a no-nonsense approach to his work, but who is very adept at recognizing the goals and aims of his clients. He has a clear sense of how to help others reach those goals with a minimum amount of stress while developing a positive self image in pursuit of a worthy and fulfilling lifestyle. He can be an excellent help to virtually any company or business that needs to empower itself and its employees. He also has excellent skills in dealing with major life traumas. Though he does not give up easily when confronted with a challenge, and he is an excellent therapist for a wide variety of issues and problems, if he cannot help someone, he will be the first to recognize it and pass one on to someone with the required skills. Steven would be an excellent addition to any organization in need of his skills."
Testimonials, Winston
“I learned that “creating” energy is positive, progressive, and self-affirming, while the victim energy is self-denying and draining.”
“It takes work, because it is a conscious effort for me each time there is a turn in the path, but it is getting easier to create more of what makes my heart sing as I am more aware, more conscious. I've told myself in the past that I am just not good with directions and either given up or made many wrong turns to get to my destination. So much of what I gave my energy to in the past, like anger, drama, complaining, is no longer in the forefront.
“Putting my energy in a positive affirming place leads to amazing things.”
I am now able to recognize when I am playing the victim role, and can move into creating more of what I want. I find myself saying or asking myself that throughout the day now.
I loved every minute of it. Thank you, Steven Keeler. You are an amazing person and your enthusiasm for presenting a new way of life is admirable. I wish you many blessings and joy. It is amazing how sometimes the answer is there even before the question is finished.
Learning to listen to my heart has been an emotional and physical lifesaver.
