Increasing immune system function in the Winter Season.
Now that the Fall season is here and Winter is just around the corner, people are wondering, should I get the Flu shot? The best way to guard against the flu and other cold weather viruses, are to boost your immune function. One very important vitamin to consider is Vit. D. Ideally, it would be best to check your Vit. D levels with a simple blood test, testing for D3. If your levels are between 50 -80, you have enough Vit. D to ward the cold and flu virus. If you do come in contact with these, you can also take extra vit. D to increase your body's own production. Vit. D is produced when your skin comes in contact with the sun. The problem these days is that people use sunscreen, and don't make enough Vit. D in this way. Also, darker skinned people produce less Vit. D than lighter skinned people. So, it is wise to take a Vit. D supplement in the winter, when you know you will not be getting a lot of sun exposure. Vit. D levels are much higher than what was previously the RDA values ( 400 I.U.) Nowadays, toddlers need 1000 or more, and adults 4000 I.U. or more to raise their levels to the protective range.
