We Have a Learning Solution for Your Child!
At Lighthouse Learning Solutions, our goal is to provide families with the resources and skills to help students of all ages and ability levels build on strengths and overcome challenges. Students are never viewed through the lens of a label. Rather, we identify where a student is struggling and propose methods of improving that student’s skills in those specific areas through use of research-based methodology that engages and strengthens key areas of cognition. We aim to provide a collaborative setting in which families can share their concerns and find solutions!

Reading Problems Grades 1-8; Math Grades 2 Through Pre-Alg.
No Contracts; Semi-Retired; Reduced and Flexible Rates
For 35 years, I was the owner and director of the One-to-One Reading Center on Woodley and Devonshire in Granada Hills, where we worked with children and adults having reading problems and other educational difficulties, including ADHD, Dyslexia, and Math. All our work was always on a one-to-one basis, and we never required contracts. Now I am working part-time out of my residence, where I have added a room addition specifically for tutoring and educational therapy. Because I have almost no overhead, I am able to work at rates 50% or more below the going ET rate. I no longer charge for cancellations, and will work mornings during non-school days and summer, as well as after school weekdays, till 8:30p.m. I am a lifetime credentialed Elementary Teacher in addition to my advanced degrees and my Board Certification with AET. My specialty has always been reading remediation for LD and Dyslexic persons, especially children age 6 to about 12, though all ages will be considered if their problems are appropriate to my expertise. For significant problems, it is recommended that the student attends at least twice a week. Sessions are usually an hour, but 45 minute sessions can be taken for additionally reduced rates.

Shawn Simon, MA, BCET
Educational Therapist
Newbury Park, CA 91320
As a board certified educational therapist, I work with children and adolescents who struggle in school due to learning differences. I specialize in ADHD and executive functioning challenges as well as reading decoding and fluency, reading comprehension, expressive writing, and study skills and test taking anxiety. Through my work with children, I am able to authentically build self-esteem, which ultimately leads to greater success in school. In addition to my private practice, I supervise Learning Coaches who tutor students in my after school homework program, called The Learning Spot. All of my coaches are either credentialed teachers or they are in school working toward degrees in teaching or speech and language. Furthermore, I have recently hired educational therapy interns to supervise. Both of my interns are in school working toward their Master's Degrees in Educational Therapy. They are available to remediate skills in reading, writing, and math. They also work on building study skills, test taking skills, and they help to improve skills in executive functioning, such as organization, planning, and time-management.
