Compassionate Counseling
Finding a therapist with whom you can connect and feel safe is vital for healing. With empathy and compassion, Carie creates a safe environment so that you are able to share that which is most vulnerable. By holding the space, a positive attitude, the intention is to promote growth and healing. Whether you come as a family, couple, individual, or if you bring your child, Carie helps you to get past the stuck places, learn new skills, and helps you to make the changes that will enrich your life. Practicing within a Holistic framework of the Mind, Body, and Spirit connection, Carie adheres to the idea that all is energy and when there is "dis-ease", then something within the self, or the system, is out of balance. Our focus then becomes bringing the system back into balance. Carie uses the skills of a trained therapist along with the gifts of intuition and conscientious presence to assess & diagnose problematic areas. She is excited about incorporating Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT) and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) into her practice as she has experienced that these techniques foster healing for: trauma, negative core beliefs & behavioral patterns, grief & loss, weight loss, depression , anxiety & PTSD, physical discomfort, and many other issues. Compassionate communication adds depth in all relationships, therefore Carie encourages the use of NVC: Non-Violent Communication; Language of Compassion by Marshall Rosenberg, to facilitate the expression of feelings, needs, and empathic listening. She uses “The Work” of Katie Byron as a cognitive method that helps each individual take responsibility for their own feelings, thoughts, & choices. In a supportive environment healing, growth & change can & does occur. Carie looks forward to meeting with you & being a guide to help you attain your goals.

For more than 30 years I've been helping people move past anxiety, fear and worry. If you're losing sleep and waking up worried I can help-often in the first session. I also have much experience helping folks to repair and strengthen relationships of all shapes and sizes....I can assist traditional marriages and I also have experience and comfort with alternative kinds! As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist I have special training to help people who struggle with all kinds of sexually compulsive behaviors. AND I can assist their partners, spouses, and family members as well! CSE stands for certified sexual educator, and CCS for certified clinical sexologist, which means I can help with any kind of sexual problem, hang up, or difficulty. Many people come to me with desire issues, ie they want more or less sex than their partner. Others struggle with "addiction" to internet porn or risky sex like affairs. Most importantly, I do lots of work by PHONE, which means you don't need to come into my Los Osos office. This offers a private and convenient alternative for those who aren't able to attend "in person."
