Health mind. Healthy Family.
Treatment is results oriented, which means we work together at the beginning to define the changes that are meaningful to you. In a basic sense, psychotherapy is for thinking about feelings. We are all part of systems, be they family, work or society. The outcome is more freedom to be yourself. With children, treatment approach is family-centered. In the long run, the best therapist for your child is you, the parent. Parent consultation is an integral part of treatment for children and teens. Play space, art therapy and parent observation available. Psychological testing and family meetings are options. In Couples Counseling or Marital Therapy the patient is the relationship. In couples treatment, i thoughtfully guide your interactions to encourage better understanding of each other. This approach reduces the tendency to blame one another for differences, and leads the two of you into your own manner of accepting them. Pet-Assisted Therapy (PAT).

Psychotherapy with individuals and couples
I see therapy as a collaborative relationship that involves compassion and challenge. I actively engage with people to help them move through places where they are stuck in their lives. This may involve letting go of past hurts, learning loving kindness, developing skills and agency for living, and being able to play and experience joy. Each therapy is unique: it is devised to facilitate living a full, creative, and meaningful life. I work with individuals and couples. I am very helpful working with people in life transitions: Addressing blind-spots in current work situations that connect to unresolved historical issues; ways in which people are stuck regarding relationships, for example, compromising themselves because of an old and limiting version of their sense of self that is not true and leads them into unsatisfying relationships. I understand the importance of these aspects of people’s lives. I create a safe space for people to learn about themselves and experience themselves authentically.

Clinical Psychologist: Empowering Clients for Life
I’ve been a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Massachusetts since 1988, working with individuals, couples, families, groups, and veterans. My clients say my commitment, engagement and honesty helps them open up and be real with me. I've published articles about stress, pain, geriatric psychology, and attitude change. Our relationship can begin with an initial free phone consultation. Sessions are 45 minutes. During our initial meeting, we set goals, determine approximately how many sessions might be needed, and decide what type of therapy would be most effective. My hobbies include yoga, biking, and creating stone and rock sculptures.

I am experienced at helping my clients as they face loss and grief, depression, anxiety, illness, and life transitions (such as managing the transition to college, mid-life issues, aging and aging parents). These challenges call for an ally in understanding and developing new coping strategies. I work with individuals and also with couples(married or unmarried) to improve their relationships or reduce the negative impact of endings, to cope with the challenges for new parents, to manage the challenges of emerging adulthood for college students and young adults, and to productively address stresses of aging and caring for aging family members. I offer careful listening and active attention to your concerns when facing both the unexpected and inevitable stresses of life. I work with un-partnered adults who lack the connections that they value. In addition to my psychotherapy practice, I am an experienced clinical supervisor and offer case consultation and mentoring to mental health clinicians.

The truth of what is essential to know, you are whole just as you are, and you do not need to be,fixed. You may have been through unforgettable experiences such as Systematic oppression, racism, homophobia that created the belief you are not good enough or that you are less then enough. All of these untruthful messages get internalize and often become the story of your inner critic. This builds an even stronger falsehood. What is wrong with me? This health crisis can stir up past past trauma or create new shock waves of uncertainty. Therapy will expand your capacity to cope and ignite your sense of hope. Hope has the power to build resilience and support mental health even in difficult times. I am now doing exclusive tele health session. Individual, Couples and Group Psychotherapy
in Cambridge, MA
I am a licensed clinical psychologist, who works collaboratively with clients to help them improve relationships and take better care of themselves emotionally. Adult children of aging parents, ACOA's, spouses of substance abusers and professional caregivers (including therapists) value my warm, collaborative style and respect for each individual's unique ways of adapting. Through my books, lectures and teaching, I have trained and supervised 100s of clinicians in group psychotherapy, as well as individual and couples therapy. I teach what I love about my work -- helping clients to feel more empowered in relationships, to improve self-esteem, and to deal with family-of-origin issues, communication problems, life transitions, anxiety, depression, and self-defeating behaviors (including addictions). As founder and former Director of the Substance Abuse Outpatient Clinic at McLean Hospital, I have helped family members to cope with the pain of chaotic and unpredictable lives, find more effective ways of intervening to help their loved ones, and improve the quality of their own lives. I have a special interest in helping clients deal with the complicated feelings and emotional upheaval often associated with major transitions in their own lives and those of family members (marriage, divorce,empty-nest, retirement and bereavement). This work may be done in individual therapy, couples therapy or group therapy.

Individual, Couples & Group Therapy
I understand the importance of developing resilience-to-change in order to effectively cope with major life transitions; loss and endings (divorce, retirement, serious medical illness) as well as beginnings (new relationships, marriage, birth of a child, starting a career). Without such resilience, life can feel overwhelming, self esteem becomes precarious, and mood can dip dramatically. As a licensed clinical psychologist, with more than 30 years experience, my clients value my warm, collaborative approach to relationship issues, executive stress, inter-generational conflicts, mid-life issues, and self-defeating behaviors that keep people stuck. Previous experience as an officer and director of a publicly traded company, as well as in the practice of business law, have uniquely equipped me to help entrepreneurs and executives with a variety of interpersonal business-related issues. I understand legal and business issues in a way that facilitates working with those having difficulties with employers, employees, and co-workers. I can also effectively help with difficulties relating to the stress of balancing work with other life issues. I also work with adolescents who face more than the usual growing pains, parents who want to do a better job with their children, and couples (in both traditional and non-traditional relationships), helping them to relate in more emotionally-satisfying ways. As Co-Director for 10 years, of the Center for Coping with Chronic Illness, I have helped patients and their families, as well as professional caregivers, deal with the impact of the ongoing medical concerns. I work with clients in individual, couples or group psychotherapy or a combination of these, depending on the goals of treatment. In general the clients I see in psychotherapy include homemakers, college students, stressed executives, academics, and other high functioning professionals. Many of my clients find my background in law and business to be a good fit for understanding their issues and conflicts. The treatment issues that I specialize in and and the diverse populations that I work with are listed below. My services may be covered by your insurance plan. Even if I am not listed on your panel of providers, some coverage may be available to you if you have out-of-network benefits. Sex and Relationship Therapy
For individuals, couples and people in poly relationships
Northampton Sex Therapy Associates, LLC (NSTA) is the only group private practice in New England dedicated exclusively to providing sex therapy, relationship therapy, and sexuality counseling to individuals, couples, and people in poly and non-monogamous relationships. Like most other forms of psychotherapy practice, sex therapy is exclusively talk therapy. This means meeting regularly with a therapist to talk about how to overcome whatever problem you have presented. During these meetings, sex therapists share their knowledge of human sexuality and expertise in working with sexual functioning and relationship challenges. Our clinical approach is grounded in research and evidence, rather than smoke and mirrors or vague, general promises. We provide clinical approaches and solutions that actually work, based on research and clinical experience. Over the course of a person's lifetime, multiple factors can add up and lead to difficulties with sex. Stress, trauma, illness, the side effects of medications, depression, and lack of self-esteem often negatively impact a person’s sexual functioning and desire. It is not uncommon for couples and individuals to experience sex-related challenges at some point in their lives. Everyone, and every body, deserves to experience satisfying, exciting, loving, and fulfilling sexual relationships and sexual contact. Sex therapy can often help. Most clients come to us with trauma, shame and guilt about the ways in which they are sexual and embodied. NSTA therapists understand the ways in which trauma—and the resulting fear and anxiety—impacts sexual functioning, and inhibits healthy sexual behavior. We help clients overcome sexual difficulties by using trauma-informed clinical practices. Anxiety and shame are at the root of most sexual dysfunctions. These are typically emotions and feelings that trap human beings in rigid and fearful ways of expressing, or not expressing, themselves. These emotions and feelings have a powerful impact, particularly on how we manifest ourselves in sexual ways, sometimes to the point of retreating and hiding our bodies and sexuality, and occasionally to places of sexual compulsivity and over-expression. Regardless of the ways in which clients experience challenges with sex, we are in a unique position to help them navigate the often complex pathway toward feeling at home in their bodies and in their sexuality.
