Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ashland
With 18 years experience -- an acupuncture patient before I became an acupuncturist -- I know that acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are effective treatments for chronic ailments. I, like many patients, was a patient of last resort. Are you a patient of last resort? Why wait? Acupuncture can complement your medical treatment, or provide a treatment when standard medical care doesn't provide you the wellness you seek. In addition to acupuncture I provide custom herbal prescriptions based on Traditional Chinese Medicine formulas; tui na orthopedic massage; moxibustion; and gua sha as needed. I use gentle needling techniques based on the Japanese style, and provide a quiet, private treatment setting. Superbills are available for those with insurance to submit to their insurance companies for reimbursement. Specializing in autoimmune disease, cancer therapy support, anxiety/depression. Available for brief phone consultations to help you decide whether acupuncture and Chinese Medicine will help with your health concern and improve your quality of life. Acupuncture can also be used as preventive wellness care -- the best time to be treated is when you have no complaint at all (four times a year when the seasons change to keep your body at optimum health). Other self care techniques I am trained to help you with: dietary recommendations, sleep hygiene, exercise program regimens. Whether you're dealing with a chronic illness, stress, or just want to stay well, consider seeing me for regular treatments. Both effective and affordable, acupuncture is worth your time and investment.

Ancient Medicine, Modern Solutions
I enjoy working with Women's health, such as hormone imbalances,, including menopause and fertility issues. I also work with people who have digestive disturbances, are interested in weight loss, pain relief, emotional discomfort, as well as the common cold and many un-common discomforts. People often ask me how I got involved in Chinese Medicine. I have always been interested in things that are foreign. The first time I tried acupuncture, I was amazed by the deep relaxation I experienced. I felt that my body, mind and emotions were ‘reset’. I was deeply present in the moment, as when I experience deep meditation. Part of the wonderful things about acupuncture, are the diagnostic techniques which help us to diagnose and treat complicated chronic conditions which western/biomedicine has difficulty detecting and resolving. When I treat my patients, I am excited at the depth this medicine has which aids me to treat what I see and helps people align what they are feeling in their body with a medical philosophy, which coincides with their experience. The way I mirror their issues gives them insight into how to help them create change. Acupuncture gives us the opportunity to take a moment to connect with the big picture thru the regulation of our body processes. This gives a patient space from their small problems and relaxation, which is the first step in evolving our health. I’ve seen people dramatically change their lives, their health, their circumstances and their outlook with the benefits of this medicine. Acupuncture opens the doors, opens our eyes to changing our perceptions of our health, our lifestyles and our relationships. I have seen this medicine transform the way people create their lives as they unblock and release the physical habits stagnating their choices. We all experience various forms of pain and discomfort. I want to help people understand their body and mind with insight so they may evolve themselves to healthier, joyous, choices and experiences and consciousness in their lives.

Holistic Healthcare for the Whole Family
Holistic Healthcare for the whole family. "I am a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and a Licensed Acupuncturist. My unique education is complementary based in both Eastern and Western medicines. I hold a Master's degree in Chinese Herbology and have worked to receive advanced certification in treating immune dysfunction. As a general practitioner, I provide one-stop healthcare to the entire family. Some of my areas of experience are in Digestion, Gynecology/Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Immune function and Liver disorders. I have also seen great results with auto-immune disease, pain management, allergies, interstitial cystitis, fibromyalgia, weight loss, candida, as well as a myriad of other health concerns. One major area of focus in my practice is the study of the human microbiome and how an imbalance in this system, as well as the gastrointestinal system in general, leads to systemic disease in the body. By looking at the bacteria, liver and gallbladder function, nutritional metabolism and absorption as well as neurotransmitters, we are able to uncover the causes of many symptoms. My practice philosophy is to provide complete, compassionate, individualized healthcare. I believe in uncovering the root of disease in the body to provide long term results as well as prevention. One of the beauties of Chinese Medicine is its ability to diagnose the individuals constitution in order to pinpoint their specific situation rather than using protocols. I believe that this is one of the reasons that we see such amazing results. It is my mission to provide patients with options in order for them to make empowered and educated choices for themselves and their children's health. People are thrilled when they learn that, quite often, medications and other invasive procedures can be avoided with the timely use of natural medicine.”

If you live in the Tempe – Phoenix area, chances are you’ve found your way to this page because you’re tired of pain, fed up with weight loss, burned out by stress, or are just plain tired of being tired! (d. all of the above?) You’ve come to the right place. I can help. If you’re like most people, you probably don’t know too much about acupuncture treatments, and might have even thought about running away at the thought of needles somewhere on this page. No worries! Even the burliest ex-football player tattooed Marines tend to be nervous about this stuff, but let me be the first to put those fears to rest. Imagine this: a place where you can go that feels as cozy as your living room. You sit down and have a chat – I mean really talk about you: your devotion to your brilliant two-year old, your 3:00 chocolate cravings, that ridiculous knee pain that screams at you during bowling night , and your quest to find out where you left your energy. Mind and body, it’s all you – and it’s all related (you knew you weren’t crazy, right?) That’s the beauty of Chinese medicine. After your chat, you get to have the deepest, most amazing nap, blissfully drifting in a sea of tranquil music and warm heat therapy. If you closed your eyes, you were probably oblivious to those tiny needles that somehow magically rearranged everything in there and made you feel like things were just right in the world again. Seriously. It feels that easy. If you’re tired of conventional treatments (pills, surgery, injections) and conventional wisdom (“you’re getting older,” “it’s just arthritis,” “learn to live with it,”) give health another chance. You deserve it. I’ll try to make sense of it all for you here. I want to get to the core of your health issues and I know you do too. Using acupuncture, acupressure, natural herbal medicine and personal nutrition plans, we can optimize your body’s healing and help you reclaim your energy and well-being.

What Makes Japanese Acupuncture Special Thinner Needles -The obvious differences between Japanese style acupuncture and that of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are that the needles are far finer (using needles barely thicker than a human hair), and that they are inserted often barely deeper than 1 or 2mm, with an absolute minimum of manipulation. In some instances, they are not inserted at all. -For a first-time acupuncture patient who is worried about needles, Japanese acupuncture might be the style to try first because it tends to be more comfortable for the patient. -In Japanese Meridian Therapy there is a focus on conserving the Qi of the patient. The practitioner must be mindful of ways the patient can lose qi: needling (especially deep needling or strong stimulation of the needle), stress, and the inappropriate use of a guide tube More Emphasis on Palpation -The diagnosis is very hands-on. In fact, 40% of licensed acupuncturists in Japan are blind, so there is much emphasis on touch and palpation. -Much like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we look at the tongue and pulse to see what’s going on at a deeper level in the body. -Unlike TCM, we also do abdominal palpation where the abdomen is split up into different areas to represent different organ systems. We can tell a lot about what is going on by palpating the abdomen. -Also, instead of just choosing acupuncture points from a textbook based on point functions, we palpate the channels in order to decide which acupuncture points are most appropriate for the individual patient. Front and Back Treatments -We always treat the front and back side of the body. This promotes balance. -We assess both the root and branch of the presenting illness. We cannot just look at the local area of pain; instead we must look at the person’s individual constitution. We must figure out what underlying deficiencies allowed this disease process to take place. Then we can strengthen from the root so the illness will not come back. -Every person is born with a constitutional deficiency of one of the main yin organ systems. We look at different characteristics and features of the individual to help us assess what the constitutional deficiency is and how it led to the current state. If Japanese Acupuncture sounds right for you, then make an appointment with us. We look forward to meeting you!

Acupuncture for Pain, Depression, Infertility, and More!
We are a wholistic health center who sees every person as an individual – body, mind and spirit. We offer natural therapies to help each person reach his or her maximum state of well being. We offer acupuncture, massage, shiatsu, myofascial release therapy, reflexology, prenatal massage, Reiki, craniosacral therapy, yoga therapy, private yoga sessions and more! Our promise is to enhance your sense of well being, to alleviate discomfort and to help facilitate a meaningful healing process, in a manner which is safe, respectful, and comfortable for you. We are professional, certified and licensed therapists. What does an acupuncturist do? During the initial exam a full health history is taken. Questions are asked regarding health, symptoms and lifestyle. An appropriate physical exam is conducted, including pulse and tongue diagnosis. Gathering this information enables the practitioner to effectively diagnose and detect any specific imbalances of Qi that may have contributed to a person’s health problems. The practitioner can then create a well-structured treatment plan. Once the imbalances of Qi are detected, an acupuncturist will place fine, sterile needles at specific acupoints along meridian pathways. This safe and painless insertion of the needles can unblock the obstruction and balance Qi where it has become unbalanced. Once this is done, Qi can freely circulate throughout the body, providing adequate nourishment to cells, organs, glands, tissues and muscles. This can eliminate pain and restore balance and harmony, as well as the body’s ability to heal itself—ultimately leading to optimal health and well-being.

Acupuncture & Depression Depression can be debilitating for those who experience it. Prolonged feelings of sadness, discouragement and hopelessness greatly affect the quality of life. At one time or another, most of us have experienced some form of depression. It's a healthy response to events in our lives that seem overwhelming. When we are balanced, physically and emotionally, we can easily bounce-back from a depressed state and move on with our lives. But, when negative feelings and emotions become persistent and consistent, depression may set in. Today, more than 28 million Americans are taking antidepressant and anti-anxiety drugs. (1) In 1998, doctors wrote more than 130 million prescriptions for antidepressants. According to the Physicians' Desk Reference, the top antidepressant drugs only address signs and symptoms associated with depression, and can cause a variety of side effects, including insomnia, anxiety, listlessness, fatigue, body rash, tremors, facial tics, diarrhea, loss of appetite and sexual dysfunction. Depression alone is stressful enough on the body and while medications may provide temporary relief, they can further compromise our health. How can acupuncture help? Acupuncture and Chinese medicine incorporate thousands of years of experience in treating depression. Not only can they help to alleviate the signs and symptoms accompanying depression, they can address the root causes and underlying imbalances that have contributed to the problem, safely and naturally. Acupuncturists are aware of the powerful interplay between our body and emotions the two are inseparable. When we experience emotional upset, our internal environment becomes disrupted. Likewise, when we experience physical problems, our emotions can become greatly affected.

I work both from my private clinic & from shared practice in the Islington & N7 area. Depending on what suits your diary & circumstances best I can determine at which location to arrange a consultation. If you would like to contact me before starting treatment, we can discuss whether acupuncture or Tui na treatment may be able to help you. Acupuncture is the practice of inserting and manipulating fine needles into various points on the body to relieve pain and treat a broad range of conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers acupuncture to have been proven to many conditions including knee pain, back pain, depression, nausea, rheumatoid arthritis, and headaches. Some people come to acupuncture as their first choice of health care while others find it beneficial alongside conventional medicine treatments and different treatments. Having gained increasing popularity in the West over the last three decades, many clinical trials, along with the experience of millions of patients, have validated acupuncture as safe, effective and a natural form of health care. Being a holistic medicine, Acupuncture aims to treat the whole person rather than just the disease and attempts to work with the cause of the problem as well as the symptoms. The needles used are single-use, sterile, and disposable. Tui na is a unique form of Chinese medical massage, which uses various massage techniques and places pressure on relevant acupoints in order to regulate physiological functions, promote blood circulation, loosen up muscles and relieve pain. It differs from other forms of massage because is used to treat specific illness of an internal nature as well as musculoskeletal ailments. Tui na treatment is applied over loose clothing or directly onto the skin if an external oil is to be applied. Tui na is an appropriate alternative to needle based acupuncture. Facial Rejuvenating Acupuncture is a natural viable alternative to invasive injections, fillers and chemical treatment. The benefits of this procedure include: - Improvement in muscle tone and dermal contraction. - Non-visible tissue damage which increases cell regeneration, filling out and smoothing lines and wrinkles. - Increased collagen production, which plumps up the skin. - Decreases tendency toward sagging jowls and a double chin. - Regulates and balances hormones in cases of hormone-based skin conditions - The needles used are extremely fine and they stimulate acu-points on the face, ears and body. Afterwards a facial acupressure massage is also performed. A course of 10 sessions is recommended but not everyone is a suitable candidate for Facial Rejuvenating acupuncture. A free no obligation pre-assessment can be arranged by phone.

Acupuncture and Qigong Therapy
Chinese medicine treats the root cause. In Chinese medicine, the root cause is always an “energy diagnosis,” which tells us about the state of your energy in the body. Acupuncture is an art we commonly use in the clinic to treat a wide variety of conditions and health challenges. We even use acupuncture for “tune ups” or seasonal wellness visits, for people who enjoy acupuncture as a way of staying balanced, focused and healthy. We may use acupuncture to treat a common cold, injuries, or to support a cancer patient in their care. We may use acupuncture in the care of women’s health, men’s health, children’s medicine and fertility. Acupuncture is not only an ancient art, but rapidly becoming a modern science and integrated into western medical care for it’s very strongly positive effects, and “side effect free. Basically, it involves insertion of very tiny (very fine) needles into the skin along acupuncture points, to affect the flow of energy (qi) in the body. Qi flows along channels in the body to organs and cells in the body, nourishing and promoting blood flow along the way, by Chinese Medicine theory. When qi is abundant and flows freely, the body can have good health. Hence, abundant qi and circulation in the body is one of the main goals of treatment with Chinese medicine. It also feels nice. Peaceful, relaxing and calming to the body, mind and spirit… it is just good for your health. Clinical science and medicine is showing many ways that acupuncture is of benefit to your health. It is side effect free, reasonable to afford, and has the gift of addressing the root cause and not just treating symptoms. Herbal Medicines in Chinese medicine, herbal medicine is complex –and requires a skilled practitioner to diagnose and prescribe appropriate herbal combinations. Chinese medicine formulas balance herbs together to support each other and give optimal effect based upon energy diagnosis. As part of care, for those whom it is appropriate, herbal formulas may be recommended as part of your care. Medical Qigong — Also known as Qigong Therapy, or “External Qi Healing,” or “Energy Healing,” is an art that is perhaps the most ancient of all of the Chinese medicine healing arts. Qigong healing as a therapy is a peaceful art of healing with energy that is done in various ways, according to patient needs, in the clinic. It involves the practiioner helping the patient to remove energy blockages and restore balance and flow through peaceful healing mind/body techniques, some of which are ancient arts, as well as teaching meditations, mind/body methods and movement, visualization and sensing techniques so that the patient can work with their own energy to improve their health. It is peaceful, but also empowering. Anyone can learn qi healing techniques to improve their health. For many, it is a wonderful part of everyday life.
