Julia Speer, LPC, EMDR, Christian therapy

Christian Based Counseling, EMDR
Trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 25 years experience. Currently I practice in West Linn , Oregon although I am also licensed in the state of California. As a licensed professional , I participate in continuing education to continue my learning process and stay current in the field. I find it very fulfilling and a privilege to have people open up their lives and hearts to me as they seek out help. All of us have been adversely effected by various circumstances and events in our lives. Therapy helps heal these broken places and also provides an increased understanding of what is happening inside and the ability to communicate that effectively in relationships which leads to more satisfying and fulfilling relationships. I work with individuals and couples age 16 and up with specialized training in trauma work/EMDR and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and relationship issues. I come from a Christian worldview and have training into incorporating this into the therapy process if the client so desires. I also work with mood disorders (anxiety, depression, panic) and eating disorders. I currently am on Blue Cross/ Blue Shield, Pacific Source and LifeWise insurance panels as a preferred provider, so typically if you are insured by these companies, you only pay your office visit co-payment once your deductible for the year has been met. If you are insured by a different company, check with your insurance company as to what your reimbursement is for outpatient mental health with an out of network provider and I can still submit sessions costs to your insurance company. If you are experiencing difficulties in your current situation, your relationship or marriage or struggling within your own "skin" - how you feel about yourself, or your moods and emotions, I think you will find that sitting down with someone and working these things through will be very beneficial. Please reach out and find help for yourself of your relationship, you won't be sorry!
David Manfield, PhD
Psychologist
Lake Oswego, OR 97035
I am a psychologist with over thirty year’s clinical experience. Over the years I’ve worked with and helped hundreds of individuals and couples through a wide range of difficulties. My style is respectful, interactive and dynamic. I’ve learned that there are a lot ways to help, to heal and to promote personal growth, and that no particular approach fits every person or situation. For example, for individuals with problems arising from recent traumatic events or from childhood trauma or neglect, whose parents may have been inconsistent or worse, I often combine EMDR with cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic strategies. Others seek therapy because of chronic relationship issues, issues of self-worth, or compulsive patterns they know to be self-defeating. In all cases, I use the first few sessions to fully understand the origins of the problem, and together, we develop a plan of action. If you are a couple seeking help, I’d be happy to meet with you for a consultation.

Emotional Fitness
We all want to be physically and emotionally fit - to experience energy, creativity, inner peace, joy, and positive relationships. Often this process seems to flow effortlessly, and we experience the fullness and richness of life without effort. At other times, life stresses may get in the way, creating depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. Sometimes we just feel confused, frustrated, and stuck. At those times it helps to have a collaborator, someone with the kind of experience to help sort things out and find our way out of the problem; someone who can help us recognize our strengths, resources, and resiliencies, and move toward solutions. This has been my life's work and my passion for 20 years. If you'd like to talk to me please give me a call.

Experience Matters
As a Professional Life Coach and Consultant, for over 20 years I have dedicated my life to the betterment of individuals, families, relationships and various organizations. After graduating from SUNY Stonybrook with a Bachelors Degree in psychology I proceeded to Hofstra University to earn my Masters Degree in Psychology and systems theory. I have been featured on radio talk shows and have had there pleasure of supervising many upcoming providers in the role of Director of various organizations. I do not diagnose mental disorders or treat them. Although it is important to identify how you got to where you are and how certain habits were formed based on past experience, our primary focus is on reaching your future goals and helping you get unstuck, personally, in your relationships or professionally. My approach with my clients is Solution Focused. Our initial consultation is an opportunity to make sure that we are the right fit for each other. Just because somebody has a degree and experience, does not mean that they are necessarily the best fit for you. You must feel comfortable, confidant and willing to do some work. The more you put into it, the more you will get out of it. We will continuously address progress made. I do not enable my clients but rather encourage and challenge them to take the steps needed to reach their goals. You can expect to have a positive experience.

Marriage Repair for Straight, Lesbian, Gay, or Trans Couples
WHAT IS A GOOD MARRIAGE COUNSELOR? Marriage repair is not something you want to leave in the hands of someone who has no training in marriage counseling. Most grad schools where counselors get a Master's Degree do not provide it, and licensing does not require it. And as Dr. Bill Dougherty, co-founder of the National Registry of Marriage Friendly Therapists learned in his research that most counselors admit to accepting couples as clients and also having no training to do so. Find a good counselor by starting out asking what advanced training they have in couples' counseling. WHAT DOES A MARRIAGE SPECIALIST DO? If what you are being asked to do by a counselor seems crazy, impossible or just pointless-it probably is. When couples see what everyday habits or conflict management habits impact them the most-it is a relief to begin practicing them. Feels like creating your safe place to land in a storm. Are you ready to make things better? Or for singles and newlyweds, don't you want to give your new relationship the best chance at succeeding? At Relationship Gardening couples receive a thorough take home assessment so that strengths and struggles are made known at the start. As a counselor with advanced training by the world's expert on marriage, Dr. John Gottman, I know that couples often say they need help with communication, but let's get specific about what you are really most likely seeking: relief from fighting or criticism that stings, or bringing down the walls that have been driving you more and more apart. Both poisonous habits and habits that maintain emptiness will lead you to divorce, unless you do something about them. And if you are facing excruciating life problems like betrayal, you can be guided through the 3 phases critical to recovery which are hard to do on your own-but doable with an informed counselor to make your relationship stronger after affairs. WHAT LATEST INNOVATIVE EXPERIENCE IS SHANNON OFFERING IN PORTLAND, OREGON? Online Professional Counseling
Counseling for anxiety, OCD, substance abuse, depression
In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to your needs to help you attain the personal growth you're striving for. I employ several different therapeutic models depending on the type of difficulties you are having. Most of my experience is in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. Each of these types of therapy have been evaluated and proven to be effective for a variety of problems. Research has consistently shown that the most important element in successful therapy is the working relationship between the client and the therapist. Connecting with you and establishing a solid foundation is my first and most important priority. Some of my passions include helping people deal with the impact of past traumas on their present lives, treating depression, working with clients who have trouble finding a sense of direction in their lives, and supporting the LGBTQ community. My clients have found my approach to be warm and non-judgmental; while also being honest and straight-forward. As a therapist, you will most likely find me to be, more than anything, a real person who does her best to connect with you. For fun, I enjoy anything outdoors...camping, fly-fishing, hiking...you name it. I'm also an avid reader and lover of both eating and cooking good food.
