Find a Place Where You Can Improve Relationships
As a psychotherapist serving Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach and Newport Coast I work with couples and individuals who are experiencing relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief, effects of trauma, and marital issues. Change does not occur easily and yet I continue to be inspired each day by the courage and motivation of the people I work with to challenge patterns that repeatedly cause heartache and turmoil, the effects of trauma from the past, and the problematic issues of daily living. No matter what the issue is, the most important aspect of therapy is developing a comfortable and trusting relationship with your therapist. I work in a way that provides that for each of my patients. So, If you're tired of the way your life is going, or if there are certain aspects that you know need some attention, I'd like to talk with you to see how I may be able to support you through your therapeutic process. I am caring, understanding and easy to talk to, and I provide a safe, comfortable place for you. I specialize in helping people live more fulfilling lives in their family, relationships and worklife. I also help people with increasing their confidence, as well as working through the effects of trauma, and issues from the past.

Psychotherapist
I’m a trained psychotherapist with 15+ years experience working with adults and adolescents. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression, self-sabotaging behaviors, and relationship problems. I integrate various treatment approaches and theories in my work with clients, including somatic experiencing, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, attachment theory, spirituality, and buddhist meditation. I work in an empathic and supportive environment, helping clients to rapidly get to the core issues which keep them stuck in their lives, unhappy in relationships, or chronically depressed, angry, or anxious. Almost always, what creates suffering is the avoidance of painful feelings and/or experiences. When we avoid these painful feelings, we become more anxious, more depressed, or more angry. This leads to a vicious cycle of problems within ourselves (i.e, depression) or in relationships, which cause us even more suffering. By bringing to the surface the deep and buried, often complex, underlying thoughts, emotions, and experiences and working them through (feeling them in the body, understanding their source), this frees them up. And the unwanted feelings (anxiety, depression) or behavior melt away on their own. This then allows us to be more connected to both ourselves and others, to have more intimacy in our relationships and to feel more fulfilled in general. Using this approach, significant and lasting change can happen rather quickly, much quicker than most other therapies out there. And because these changes occur at a deep level, they tend to be lasting.

Marriage and Family Therapist
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a strong backround in extended family systems therapy; however, I am trained in many other types of effective therapy. I have trained and worked in this venue for over fifteen years, seeing couples, individuals, families, adolescents, and children. My experience and training in clinics and within the public schools has given me a broad base of experience, yielding unique strengths in helping families and adolescents, addressing women's issues, treating addiction and adult children of alcoholic issues, blended family concerns, and more. I strive to help clients break free from those emotional, psychological, and thought constraints which impede progress, so clients may grow and attain optimum fulfillment in the relaionship with self and others. I have a full array of art, puppet, sand tray, and play therapy materials, to faciitate positive growth and change in even the very youngest family members. Some areas of emphasis: marriage and family counseling, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, psychological testing, addictions, clinical depression, co-dependency/adult children of alcoholics, grief and loss, issues of abuse (trauma), premarital counseling, women's issues. I have very reasonable fees for the Orange County area and I accept most types of insurance plans, including compensation for the Victims of Crime program.

Get Un-Stuck and Get Your Life Back on Track! Life Is Short.
Stop Defeating Yourself & "Find Out What Is Right with You!"
Hello, my name is Dr. Steve Harris. I will work compassionately with you to help you find your way towards more fulfilling relationships and a satisfying life. I work with a broad variety of people who are trying to get un-stuck from areas in their lives that have become counterproductive ways of coping. People frequently arrive at my office after reading self-help books, working hard to develop successful and healthy habits, exercising, changing their appetite and/or diet, taking medication (or refusing to), but find that these changes did not reach something deeper inside that seems to get in the way. They are usually smart people who know what to do, but in the “heat of the moment” all of the seemingly good tools, learning, and insights “go out the window” and an emotional reaction that sabotages the potential for success often intervenes. Whether it is to be able to have a satisfying relationship, overcome intense anxiety, break out of a deep depression, recover from a traumatic experience, overcome an addiction, or other life problem, numerous people come to me to remove the barriers in their lives so they can live more freely and get back on track of healthy living. It is important for me to help people uncover what is right with them, not just focus exclusively on their problems. I am a clinical psychologist in private practice in Orange County for over 20 years. I would like to have the opportunity to explore further what might be done to help. Please call me today to schedule a Free initial consultation. Don’t delay getting on with your life any longer!

Child and Adolescent Specialist
I have been in private practice in south Orange County for 26 years. I specialize in children and adolescent therapy using play therapy, individual, and family therapy. I treat depression, anxiety, behavior problems, school problems, ADHD, and stress to name a few. I use a psychodynamic and attachment model that enables me to go beyond treating the symptoms to getting at the root cause of behavior. I firmly believe in working with the parents. If working individually with a child I believe that it is important to have periodic meetings with the parents to coach them in recommended changes, but also with them create a treatment plan and be able to follow up during treatment. My expertise in child development and attachment also enable me to work very effectively with adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, relationship problems in marriage, work, parenting, and significant relationships.

Sliding Scale Psychotherapy, Specializing in Mindfulness
Mindfulness increases your ability to cope. It cultivates self-compassion, non-judgment, acceptance, and awareness – all vital to healing. Mindfulness encourages perspective and flexibility, strengthening overall mental health. It allows us to live in the present moment by recognizing thought patterns, letting go of unhealthy attachments, and ultimately getting us in touch with what it means to be more fully alive. Integrative An integrative framework involves mind and body. It examines how your worldview, defense mechanisms, physical and spiritual health, culture, family roles, and larger social systems are interconnected. Personality, past experiences, and beliefs are also looked at to understand how well-being is created and maintained. Healing involves exploring and being curious about these various aspects of your life and how they interact. Therapy facilitates this journey toward health, wholeness, and peace. Wellness Focused Therapy My therapeutic approach is wellness based, stemming from Positive Psychology, which focuses on strengths and values that empower the individual. This allows for innate and organic healing processes to take place. I believe this approach, together with Mindfulness and an Integrative framework, promote insight, shift, growth and balance in a most honoring and profound way. Therapy entails venturing inward, and nurturing internal wisdom to bring about this transformation
