Attachment Therapy for All Relationships
Neuorfeedback Solutions
You may have found this listing in a focused search for a healing solution for your traumatized, attachment challenged child or RAD diagnosed child within your family. You came to the right spot. I work with individuals, couples, and families utilizing attachment therapies designed to address underlying emotional difficulties associate with parent/child challenges in the first few years of life. I am experienced in couples attachment therapy and emotionally focused therapy approaches that are proven effective with adults. Also, I specifically specialize in treating children and adolescents who may have experienced trauma due to childhood abuse, neglect, abandonment, multiple foster family placements, and/or adoption. These children have already experienced harm and I take great care not to cause them to be re-traumatized by the clinical interventions that are designed to help them heal and grow into healthy individuals. My therapeutic approach is proven effective in reducing the behavioral symptoms that are often associated with a variety of disorders, including Complex Developmental Trauma, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and others. Additionally, my treatment approach addresses the underlying fears, misperceptions, and distress from which this population of children may suffer, and which contribute to their disturbing behavior and lack of healthy attachment relationships. Our latest therapeutic addition to our services is neurofeedback. Finally, a way to retrain the brain for a better life. Additionally, I use individual Emotionally Focused Family Therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Therapy with the child when trauma is interfering with the ability to think clearly, make decisions from a solid base, and cope emotionally to family interactions, life experiences, and challenges. You do not have to figure this out alone. There is hope. Your child can grow to express love more freely, and your family can live peacefully together.

Effective Psychotherapy for Individuals
+ Partners (LGBTQ/ Open + Poly relationships welcome)
Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship. Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues win your relationship? I am very comfortable working with traditional, open/ poly and queer relationships. I can assist you and your partner(s) to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Clinical research shows that 90% of couples report significant improvement within 12-20 sessions of EFT. As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to end their battle with food and their bodies. Look at my video describing the popular teleclass series for how to empower yourself during the holidays especially when dealing with stressors around food and family: "Empower Don't Devour!' Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through past traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) This well researched method has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I also help my clients release the cellular and muscular memory of the trauma (which is where trauma is often stored) using somatic psychotherapy. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch. Finally I have found Depth Hypnosis to be a highly effective tool for helping my clients get out of stuck places and create the change they want.

If it's not one thing, it's your mother.
Learn to love yourself in all the ways she couldn't.
If you had a mom (or dad) who was critical, emotionally cold or distant, demanding or dismissive, you probably struggle with feeling not-good-enough. You might find you work way too hard to prove your worth. You might be overly responsible - to everyone but yourself. You might feel anxious about being judged or rejected. But no one judges you as harshly as your own inner critic. And that might be leaving you exhausted and depressed. Having a parent who can't convey that you mean everything to them, all the time, without ever having to earn love leaves us scrambling to earn love, respect and approval in every area of life - work, love, and friendship. It's terrible to feel we can lose respect, admiration and care if we make a wrong move. What's really true is this: You can't earn love (and don't have to) to feel valued. It is being loved without limits for no good reason that makes us feel secure in the knowledge that we are lovable. If you didn't get this kind of love as a kid, no worries. You can have it now. The key is learning how to give it to YOURSELF. My job is to teach you HOW. When you have your own love, everything else changes. It becomes easier to say no to situations and people who don't feel right for you. You feel empowered to set the boundaries you need. It becomes easier to ask for what you need without worrying about burdening others. You become your full, real self, discovering who really loves YOU (not what you do for them). If this sounds like you, please contact me to schedule a free consultation.

I treat Adults, Adolescents and Couples primarily utilizing a Cognitive Behavioral approach but also incorporate Positive Psychology, Solution Focused, Transpersonal and Mindfulness concepts. Helping people learn to understand their thinking processes and also identify patterns of behavior that may no longer meet their needs is an important part of the process of making both short term and long terms changes. My philosophy stresses personal insight and responsibility, health and wellness - integrating the physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional in an open environment that allows people to commit to change. I believe that giving people skills, allows them to manage their lives in a healthier manner regardless of what the future holds for them. .

There are numerous reasons someone comes to therapy, but if you are exploring these questions you owe it to yourself to check therapy out. This especially happens when they are given a safe space to explore themselves and engage with a skilled, open-hearted, non-judging, person to help them reflect, analyze, see patterns, create goals and make change. We will walk this journey together creating goals and achieving insight derived from the brilliance that shines within you.

Simple Solutions for Complicated Lives
Be Your Own Guru~Tuning In To Inner Clarity
Of course you are affected by your loved one's behaviors. How could you not be? It makes perfect sense that you would want to support and give to the dear ones in your life. But sometimes focusing on other people can become a problem. Especially if prioritizing others and trying to anticipate their needs before they've even voiced them has been the main source of one's validation, praise, even identity. This pattern can stand in the way of your success if it leaves no energy for your personal development. People can find themselves feeling lost and lonely in their own lives. Feeling purposeless, unmotivated, drifting, can be signs that something is wrong. Because in study after study, human beings have shown themselves to be overwhelmingly drawn to work they are passionate about, motivated to be part of making a difference, endlessly creative when given the right circumstances, wanting to make connections Often people don't talk about the way they are feeling because they're afraid of the stigma of DEPRESSION, what if that's what they're feeling? Perhaps, but most of the time there are simple Life Skills missing in these instances and with a few simple evidence-based tools in hand there can be major change. A person can see themselves having more success in communication in general, but specifically in negotiating what they need at their jobs to make it worthwhile for them to be there. They can see themselves suddenly not paralyzed when major things don't go as planned because they know how to talk themselves through it, who to reach out to for help, and how to take care of themselves until they feel better enough to make decisions from a healthier emotional/mental state. They are able to put into play a few regular practices that support self connection and develop emotional intelligence allowing them to think on their feet, experience and identify emotion in the moment and not have to act on it, see and articulate choice and so many other emotional intelligence capacities. If you are experiencing difficulty in personal relationships, finding it hard to function at work or in the rest of your life, experiencing either a confused, dissociated state or an extreme loss of motivation, struggles with self-esteem, a chronic self criticism, not acknowledging your successes or thinking you have none? You can stop feeling badly that you struggle with these things. They are often part of a set of behavioral symptoms that has points to a lack of Life Skills, one of those repurposed words, which means several things: *you aren't alone *you are ok *you can feel better because there is help, support, and these skills can be learned There's no reason to struggle alone with this any longer. I offer free consultations so you can call and schedule one today. 415-378-7506

Feel understood fast
for Doubters, Pouters and Everyone in Between
Many of us are reluctant to try psychotherapy until we have exhausted every conceivable means of coping with our problems. The reasons that we don't seek professional help is complex. But whether it is fear of change, pessimism or defensiveness the root may be not wanting to face ourselves. Effective therapy is about facing things about ourselves that we either can't or don't want to see. There are obvious reasons for our lack of success in love, work and relationships, yet we remain blind to them. We know that angry communication never works but we continue to act as if it does. We withhold our true feelings not only from others but ourselves. We wander through our lives sometimes dazed, sometimes confused and often disconnected. We are hurting but act as if we are invulnerable. We can be pleasant, polite to a fault, generous and kind, but, alas, feel empty at the same time. Media about movies about aliens, robots and the undead reflect the alienation from self that is so prevalent in contemporary life. We look away from ourselves. We think that problems are outside of ourselves not within us. Learning to solve the problems within us is a major goal in psychotherapy. “You have every right to expect psychotherapy to be a force for personal growth. An effective therapist will help you see your problems clearly, so that solutions become emotionally apparent and therefore, accessible. Successful therapy will address your anger and anxiety. will diminish your shame, self-blame and self-doubt. It will help you to face yourself in ways that you have avoided or been unaware of. Effective therapy makes change inevitable. If therapy does not succeed in addressing of deep frustration with self and others, it's not working. Interventions are designed to raise self-esteem, self-respect, personal authority and improve interpersonal communication underlying feelings of loneliness and isolation. I have been a licensed therapist for over four decades. My expertise is based on a wealth of personal as well as professional experience. I am familiar with every phase of the life cycle and the particular issues that arise in each phase of your journey. I encourage you to take the first step toward self-exploration. I hope to aid you in your self-affirmation.

Live Your Life Abundantly
I have a general adult out-patient practice. A good part of my practice is consulting for primary care physicians and other therapists about psychotropic medications and alternatives to medication if there is one. I see a lot of people with sleep problems, anxiety and Bi-Polar Disorder. I've also developed a specialty with young people who have failed to launch. These are often young men who are having a hard time finding their way in the world, are often living with their parents, can't keep jobs, not doing well in school, don't know what they want to do with their lives, or experience relationship failures. Often it is some small thing that has gotten off track that, once discovered, gets the person going again. That can be something like a small learning disability or minor ADHD, lack internal discipline, fears, discouragement, or lack of self-knowing.

An Atmosphere of Change
Sometimes you discover that the path you find yourself on is not the same path you had set out on in the beginning. By participating in the psychotherapy process, you allow yourself to strengthen what is best in you, so that you may become more effective and satisfied in dealing with challenges you encounter in your life. I work with you to help you rediscover and nurture your innate strength and capabilities and to use your inner wisdom to guide your actions and sooth your emotions. Therapy can help you build on the capacities that you have already developed. It can also help you learn how to think about old problems in new ways and how to act differently when facing them. To the extent that it is necessary, therapy can allow you to take a broader look at what has gone wrong in your life and what improvements will be necessary for your circumstances or experiences to become more satisfying. Beyond looking at yourself clearly and mastering new skills, therapy will help you develop greater self-control and self-esteem. I offer counseling sessions for individuals, couples, and families.

I believe deeply that the foundation of therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist, which is really just one person helping another. We all experience times in our lives when we feel stuck, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how to move forward. Therapy offers a place where we can receive caring and support, while learning new skills for how to manage the difficulties we are facing. Therapy means that you don't have to face these challenges alone and that you don't have to continue repeating the same mistakes. I believe the most effective therapy is a co-creation between client and therapist that assists you in reaching your goals and in creating the life you've imagined for yourself. Please call today for a free phone consultation, and let's talk about how we can begin this journey together. I specialize in three areas: 1.) I love counseling children and teens, especially those struggling with divorce, trauma, or school difficulties. 2.) I am passionate about working with adults to address depression and anxiety, increase their self-esteem, improve their communication skills, and empower them to take charge of their feelings and needs. 3.) I really enjoying working with MFT Trainees and Interns to assist in their self-discovery on their journey to licensure. I offer a limited number of sliding fee slots for therapy, which means the fee you pay is based on your average monthly income, and I offer reduced rates for MFT students and interns. I also accept Victims of Crime compensation, and I am happy to bill your insurance as an Out-of-Network provider, if your insurance reimburses for that. Counseling for Individuals and Couples
Counseling services are available for men, women and couples who are seeking to create new meaning in their lives and relationships. Areas of specialization include: Resolving Crises: For those experiencing crisis, I provide a peaceful, compassionate environment in which individuals in crisis can find a calm center amidst the storm that surrounds them. I have worked with people troubled by depression, anxiety and unresolved trauma. Together, we'll explore the meanings behind the human tendency to hold onto things long past their usefulness, and construct a new way forward.   Midlife Transitions: Human beings are meant to grow, emotionally and spiritually, throughout their lives. As our souls call out for change, many of us drown out that call with distractions (such as overwork, affairs, alcohol overuse), ignoring or perhaps fearing the challenge to be who we were meant to be. Men’s Issues Although women are highly intuitive, insightful and compassionate, there are times when a man in transition might prefer to interact with a therapist who’s shared a similar journey. I'll provide a supportive setting in which men can safely connect to their feelings to learn and grow. Addictions: When life overwhelms, Addiction can seem like a best friend, soothing our fears with comforting numbness. Developing new coping skills takes time and fearless honesty. I have extensive training working with clients who have allowed Addiction to control their lives. My approach is nonjudgmental, encouraging and patient. I don’t believe in powerlessness. I believe we all have the strength to change. Marital and Couples Counseling: The key to effective long-term relationships isn’t having two people say, do and think the same way. Shared interests and values between partners are important, but the key to successful relationships is the extent to which each partner is allowed to grow emotionally and spiritually. Yet people don’t advance at the same rate. When couples find themselves drifting apart or on a collision course, it can be helpful to pause, assess and set the course for a new future. Fully realized individuals are capable of sharing power, tolerating differences, and nurturing growth without feeling threatened, suffocated or diminished.

The Anxiety Treatment Center
The Anxiety Treatment Center, Inc. offers a variety of treatment options, depending on the particular needs of each individual including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and an intensive outpatient treatment program. The Intensive Day Treatment Program is for individuals with moderate to severe levels of anxiety whose needs have not been effectively met through weekly individual or group therapy sessions. It is also for individuals whose symptoms significantly disrupt daily activities such as work, school, and relationships, which can result in isolation and depression. This program is offered Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm, and length of stay is generally four to six weeks. Each client works individually with a therapist so that each person's unique needs are addressed. An additional benefit to participation in The Intensive Treatment Program is that patients can see that they are not alone, and interact with others who are experiencing similar symptoms and concerns. This is extremely rewarding for the individual as often times we hear “I felt like I was the only one who was going through this.” Our program is limited to six participants to provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive setting. Over the course of treatment, individuals will receive the following: •Comprehensive evaluation and assessment •Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) •Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) •Education surrounding causes of anxiety disorders •Social skills and assertiveness training •Relaxation training, and stress management •Family therapy and consultation •Psychopharmacological consultation as needed •Psychological testing as needed •Collaboration with community mental health professionals •Relapse Prevention •Follow-up outpatient treatment •Aftercare groups

Live Your Power, Not Your Story!
Clinical hypnotherapy is the blending of traditional talk therapy and hypnosis, which allows the client to access the deep “stories” of their subconscious mind and to make changes to that internal “programming” in record time. American Health Magazine reported the following statistics: • Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery after 600 sessions • Behavior Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions • Hypnotherapy: 93% recovery after 6 sessions Many people believe that hypnosis should only be used as a last resort for smoking cessation, weight loss or changing habits. Few people know that hypnotherapy is a dynamic and vital healing process which embraces all aspects of mental health care. Client-centered hypnotherapy is a partnership between the client and the therapist. Through the process of hypnosis and/or regression, the subconscious mind can go directly to the original cause of the trauma or habit. These feelings can be healed and released, thus empowering the clients to let go of old beliefs about themselves and others. Ultimately, this therapy allows clients to live the life they want to live by giving them the power of choice. Transpersonal hypnotherapy is an orientation toward clinical hypnotherapy that addresses the relationship between the mind, body and spirit. It emphasizes the innate spiritual resources within each individual, connecting the client with the guidance of a Higher Power to bring insights and experiences that lead to the client's highest good. This is not connected to any specific religious orientation, but rather to an inner “knowing” that makes it possible for clients to explore their relationship to a Universal Creator and their own unique spiritual walk through life. I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Professional Member of the Association for Transpersonal Psychology and Hypnotherapy. By blending ancient shamanic tools for self-transformation with modern understanding of the human mind, I help you to reintegrate the “missing pieces” of yourself so that you can resolve unwanted patterns of behavior, find peace and inner harmony, and feel whole and alive again. By erasing the traumas of past abuse, abandonment, and accidents/injuries (including PTSD), you can come back to the experience of thriving, not just surviving, and of reconnection to your higher Wisdom and soul’s purpose for your life.

Body awareness therapy:
Unfolding body wisdom and restoring life-spirit
Is your life stuck, at a standstill, feeling blocked? Are you finding it difficult to resolve or move forward in important areas of your living? Do you often try to make changes, yet end up feeling discouraged, frustrated, resigned? Perhaps you wish to alter certain habits or develop new ways, but something seems to stop you from accomplishing or maintaining the changes. At this point of impasse, we can feel most disheartened. Although it may feel like the end, it is actually an opportunity for a new beginning. There is a source within all of us that can guide us forward- our body intelligence is the vehicle for growth and healing. I specialize in helping people who are experiencing life-impasses, a dispirited condition in which life-energy stagnates and our desires for change feel blocked. At this edge, we often feel confused, despairing, at a loss about what to do or how to proceed. I discovered that at the point of "not-knowing," there is something in us that does know. The method I call Body Awareness Therapy (BAT) is a simple, powerful process of accessing and unfolding Body Wisdom. BAT awakens life-energy, restores spirit, and shows the right direction/ next steps. Sitting and talking, while helpful, cannot themselves transform deeply ingrained patterns. Thus, I offer various possibilities for processing stuck places and resolving impasses- inner body awareness; outer expressiveness/movement; playing out embodied patterns, etc. These provide opportunities for developing "know how," learning new skills, developing capacities and healing core wounds. This method is based on the truth that our body contains a kind of knowledge, information and energy capable of healing core wounds and carrying forward our living where it has become stuck. It is effortless, in that we allow the body energy and inner spirit to guide us to the right steps and needed interactions. BAT will enable you to: .1 deepen awareness of bodily feelings; .2 release long-held tensions, stress- freeing life-energy; .3 restore the body's spirit; .4 follow bodily messages/leads; .5 identify and transform bodily patterns/ heal psychic wounds, .6 develop new capacities- taking stands, initiating action, expressing oneself. Our body is always moving toward where it is wounded or blocked, as well as to where there is new life, fresh air and greater vitality. Symptoms develop when the body's living energy and spirit have been broken or blocked from actualizing and expanding itself. When our awareness reconnects with the body, it reawakens this life-force, beginning a journey of recovering lost parts of ourselves and restoring our innate inner spirit. BAT can help release blocked energy, heal broken spirit and rejuvenate our bodily living.

Investing in counseling means that you are investing in your most important assets-your emotional and physical well being and the wellness of your family and personal relationships. Having a trained professional support you in changing negative patterns and healing old wounds can often give you positive results. I try and work as hard as my clients do, because I understand the importance of the trust they place in me and the seriousness of the issues they bring into my office. I work with adults, couples (married, unmarried, and LGBT) and teens. My clients tell me that they enjoy having feedback from a professional, neutral third party to help them sort out life’s challenges. My style is warm, approachable and down-to-earth. I take the time to find out about your specific situation and what has and has not worked for you as a part of tailoring my feedback to be the most helpful for you rather than protocols that may not be helpful in your life. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation so you can have your questions answered without having to commit to an appointment and so you can feel confident as you move forward that this will be a good fit for you. Nurturing Hope and Healing
As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I specialize in the treatment of TEENS AND THEIR FAMILIES. I also greatly enjoy working with COUPLES, INDIVIDUALS and CHILDREN of all ages. If you are thinking about embarking on the journey of therapy then you have come to the right place! But before you continue, let me start you out with a few thoughts to ponder: First, don’t give up! I know the decision to start therapy is not easy. And for so many, the steps toward actually feeling relief from symptoms may seem insurmountable. It often involves call after call researching and choosing a therapist, sorting through scheduling and finances, and perhaps begging loved ones to participate with you -- it can take a lot of energy! Energy that you may not think you have. But what is the alternative? To let the problem you’re faced with continue to build and build? You will probably reach a point of frustration again and be right back where you started -- searching for a therapist! Don’t give up -- you’re closer than you think. I am passionate about assisting my clients in reaching their goals. I believe in identifying clear goals, formulating a strategy, implementing proven methods, and seeking results. There are no guarantees for specific outcomes in therapy, but I can assure you that I will be working hard alongside you. Taking your burdens to a safe, confidential, empathetic place to unload and find the right tools for change can make all the difference. I am humbled by the opportunity to participate in the important work of fostering fulfilling relationships, promoting healing, and always encouraging growth.
