Counseling with Heart - Producing Results that Work
We believe that every situation, every experience - no matter how difficult, painful, or "stuck" it may be - holds within it the opportunity for creative growth. Providing exceptional therapy services in the San Francisco Bay area since 1982, we help you resolve the issues causing you distress. Plain and simple: we get results. Our counseling awakens, releases, and strengthens the forces of positive growth already present within you, allowing you to remove the blocks to living your life fully. We bring to our work a commitment to your unique process and a deep understanding of the principles of growth and change. Our Center provides counseling services for individuals, couples, and families, one-day workshops, and therapy groups. We serve people with a variety of sexual orientations, from all age groups and ethnic backgrounds. Plain and simple: we get results. Specially trained by the John Bradshaw Center, our licensed therapists have many years of training, experience in recovery programs, and expertise in a broad range of counseling modalities. Each of our counselors is able to respond to your situation creatively, drawing upon specific methods that will be of optimal assistance to you. In addition, all of our staff have an ongoing commitment to their own professional and personal development and recovery. Our orientation integrates John Bradshaw's nationally acclaimed teachings on the inner child, codependency, and toxic shame with a humanistic, transpersonal, and family systems perspective; is grounded in the 12-step approach to recovery; and draws on the expressive arts and somatic therapy. In addition to verbal forms of therapy, we utilize symbolic methods (dreamwork, art therapy, psychodrama, movement, and sandtray therapy) that gently yet dramatically create change by tapping directly into the unconscious. Our focus is to resolve the issues that bring you to counseling and to help you establish or reestablish your life as a thriving, nurturing process. The first step is to help you identify the goals you seek to accomplish. Then, using powerful yet gentle methods, our counseling acts to enliven and release the forces of positive growth already present within you. You fulfill your goals and grow beyond negative patterns from the past, empowered to move forward with freedom in your life.

I want to know what brings a smile to your face as you realize there is life to be lived. Our relationship is in the service of real, lasting change that will come from collaboration based on trust. There is a part in you, that know exactly why it came here and what is the task at hand. I like to ask my clients early in our work– "How will you know that you received what you came for?" We re-visit this question until one day we both know the work is done. While I will be keenly interested in how your past has brought you here, we will not dwell there. I am much more interested in what's present for you now and how the best in you can unfold. The change that will revitalize your life will not come from insight alone. We will engage in dialogue, storytelling, relaxation, imagery, dream exploration, and pay attention to body sensation, the seat of the soul.

Psychoanalysis
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
I will accompany you in the challenges that you are facing. Through psychoanalysis, I offer a unique space for speech—confidential, non-judgmental—where you’re invited to say whatever comes to mind. I have considerable experience with a range of issues, with over a decade of clinical practice. Whether mental distress, changes in life, relationship difficulties or all of the above, each person’s process is unique, and I accompany you in following where your words lead—toward what has yet to be said or heard. Many people come to psychoanalysis when other approaches don't seem to change things, and something keeps insisting. Together, we listen deeply to what’s said and unsaid, attending to the words, dreams, and repetitions that shape experiences—those moments that reveal something unconscious at work. This is not quick advice or symptom management, but a process that can transform how you relate to yourself and others. This process is about long-term change. It can take courage to begin speaking freely, especially when you’re unsure what you’ll say or find. You don’t have to know where to start—just that something calls for attention is a beginning. In this work, every person’s experience is heard, valued, and dignified. If you’re ready to begin, I welcome you to reach out.

Integrative Mind/Body Psychotherapy
My intent is to help you deal with problems you're facing and lead a more fulfilling life. I have a strong track record of helping people overcome difficulty, struggle and confusion in their lives. I'll work to help you discover new ways of experiencing yourself in the world. I use an integrative mind/body approach to psychotherapy in facilitating change toward contentment and vitality. I work with couples and individuals around issues of intimacy, self-worth, life transition, purpose and spiritual inquiry. My background includes extensive training in Hakomi Body-Centered Psychotherapy. This approach incorporates the Buddhist practice of mindfulness, or compassionate self-observing, to help explore unconscious beliefs and change self-defeating patterns. I draw on many sources and therapeutic models in my work. I also place great importance on providing an environment where you feel safe to freely and creatively explore your inner world. My style is collaborative, engaged and supportive. I’d be glad to talk further about your particular situation and needs.

Are You Ready to Create Positive Lasting Change?
Change Is Not Merely Necessary to Life - It Is Life. Toffler
I primarily provide for the counseling needs of professionals at all levels, and offer intelligent, insightful, creative, outside-the-box, solution-focused and long-term therapy with complete discretion and confidentiality. My work focuses on helping clients enjoy more satisfying and meaningful lives. Issues I commonly help people resolve include life and career transitions, anxiety and depression, feelings of emptiness, stress management, as well as many others. Former and current clients have described me as "easy to talk to," "a wonderful listener," "someone who it feels safe to talk with," "easy to be open with, and nonjudgmental," "empathic and understanding," and most commonly of all "someone who thinks outside the box." Most of my career counseling relationships last at least a few months, but it is usually helpful to stay in regular contact with your career counselor or coach even after your objectives are determined and any mental obstacles preventing the achievement of your goals are removed. As we move along our paths in life, we often have to deal with unanticipated challenges, and correct our courses accordingly. Having someone around to keep us on track as we face those challenges is an immense asset. My clients determine where they would like to be more aligned with their life purpose, and ultimately learn to craft the solutions to any problems facing them. But several decades of experience have led me to understand that helping clients with "career issues" requires me to address and manage a wide variety of career-related issues. Because of this, I have also helped numerous clients: Create a satisfying balance between work and the rest of life; Stay focused on work while dealing with emotional issues (such as grief, divorce, or difficulties with children); Find time and outlets for other needs (such as community involvement, creativity, spirituality); Resolve conflicts and issues in the workplace; Learn the communication and conflict management skills necessary for employees and supervisors; Relieve work-induced tension and stress; Manage job changes and changing work environments; Decide whether to stay in a job or find a new one; Deal with workplace disabilities; Make decisions regarding self-employment and entrepreneurship; and Address the numerous financial issues and concerns that arise around these topics. If you feel you could use a professional partner to address any of the aforementioned issues... If you have questions about the nature of the work you do, how it impacts your life, and how you can successfully transition your career so it becomes an expression of your life purpose contact me. As Robert Frost said, "(for only when) work is play for mortal stakes is the deed ever really done for heaven and the future's sakes."

We will work together to resolve your emotional pain and help you experience your life differently. Therapy is not about self-indulgence: making your life more worth living will benefit your loved ones, your work and the society as a whole. Here you will find a safe place to heal and to renew yourself. I work with clients to resolve their past or present trauma. I help clients work through/manage depression and anxiety which have hampered their ability to live their lives with ease in the past. I successfully aid my clients' work in improving their social relationships and low self-confidence. Some more specific examples of the issues I treat are emotional consequences of miscarriage or abortion, issues related to infertility problems and issues related to parenting phases and roles. I also focus on issues arising from the process of immigration and acculturation in the United States and issues related to clients’ diversity with respect to the majority of the population. I see individual clients, couples and I run small groups. I run groups together with a licensed acupuncturist for people who had a traumatic experience in their past. I am multicultural and I am fluent in three languages; I offer therapy in English, Spanish and Italian. I offer affordable therapy with a sliding scale fee.

An Experienced, Supportive Therapist.
Do you have the relationship blues? Relationships are the basic fabric of our lives, but they can be so hard. You may be struggling with feeling distant or overly involved, with not knowing how to get your needs met or deal with others' needs. I can help you discover the underlying blocks to having a more fulfilling relationship. We’ll unpack your “personal baggage” from the past, improve your communication skills and dismantle your repetitive negative cycles of relating. I have worked with individuals and couples to improve relationships with self and other for 25 years. I can help you to overcome the stumbling blocks that keep you from having the satisfying relationship that you want. Couples usually come to therapy shut down, hurt, and/or angry. Through counseling you can open up and regain connection. I'll help you identify and change dysfunctional relationship patterns, learn new ways of communicating and understand how you are bringing some experiences of the past into the present. You'll build your communication and intimacy skills, deal with issues such as becoming parents, escalating arguments, infidelity, walls of silence, fear and anger. You will learn to see your relationship problems as about the dynamic between you, not one person's or the other's fault. BRIEF INDIVIDUAL THERAPY In brief (10 -12 weeks) individual therapy, you’ll gain insight by looking deep inside at what is blocking you or driving you in the wrong direction. We will strive towards self-acceptance, which also leads to better relationships to others. You need understanding of what is going wrong and why, in order to do it differently in the future. When you know where your problems are rooted and how they show up, you have the opportunity to change. With both couples and individuals, I work collaboratively to help you gain insight, to look deeply and understand what is blocking you or driving you in the wrong direction. You need understanding of what is going wrong and why, in order to do it differently. I am interactive, empathic, respectful, warm and at times, humorous. Experience is the best teacher, it's true. INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY I work with adults and adolescents who have a wide range of emotional and interpersonal difficulties. My approach to psychotherapy is to create a safe environment through supportive listening and empathy that will enable my clients to talk about patterns in their lives that are causing them distress. I help my clients understand how their problems developed and what will be required to work through their difficulties. One important aspect of psychotherapy involves accessing the unconscious mind through the exploration of one's thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors, and through the interpretation of dreams. This opens the door to resolving difficulties that my clients are having, and to developing healthier relationships and new sources of self-worth and life satisfaction. I work with individuals in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with the following treatment goals: Overcoming Depression & Anxiety Enhancing Self-Esteem Improving Intimate Relationships Resolving Work & School Difficulties Reducing Stress & Health Problems Controlling Destructive Habits with Hypnosis Coping with Loss & Life Transitions Addressing Type "A" Personality Issues Controlling Attention Deficit Disorder Resolving Issues From Childhood RELATIONSHIP & MARITAL THERAPY I work with couples with a wide range of problems on improving the quality of their relationships. Reconnecting couples through counseling
Dealing with Anger? Communication? Affair? Sex life issues?
Motivated couples come here to work on their trust building, whether due to infidelity, or desire to come closer and more in sync. Learn how to work on your relationship here in counseling by helping build communication skills as well as thrive in your sexual life. Affair When it feels unimaginable to ever recover from dealing with infidelity in your relationship, with all the worries that consume you about an affair, you wonder if you can ever trust again. I help couples learn how to take responsibility and move forward in their relationships. Call to schedule an appointment and to learn the tools to rebuild your connection and love. Arguing When you are tired of having the same old, exhausting argument, I help you learn how to speak and be heard, understood and feel respected again. Call to learn positive communication skills and some couples therapy exercises. Sex life When you have lost hope that you will ever feel satisfaction in your body again and worry takes over that your relationship is doomed to be without sex, I can help you learn how to ignite the spark again and get back to enjoying the perks of being a couple. Call to schedule an appointment and to learn the tools to a healthy marriage and how to rebuild physical intimacy and emotional intimacy. Trust Building & Communication Therapy with your mate can provide you with new perspectives and positive options. Powerful strategies and tools are needed to break old patterns and overcome the challenges. It is true that most adults enter into relationships today without having had the right tools to eventually be successful. This explains the rate of divorce and discontent. Couples therapy gives you the knowledge to learn how to speak, how to be heard, touched, adored, and grow old together. These tools are priceless for your lives whether you are fielding a current conflict or want to come in for preventive measures to insure a connected union. Ever feel like your spouse responds the same way not matter what the situation? Can you predict the outcome of your arguments? Does your experience of talking include being heard? Most of the time there is a stale stagnant pattern, and “old shoe” mentality around how we communicate with our loved one. You CAN however have a relationship filled with fresh alive conversation, the satisfying feeling of being heard, and understood and (although not always agreed with) still respected! Still respected inside of a disagreement? YES! Mature enough to move on and operate in love with different opinions?! YES! Even if trust has been broken, if there has been an infidelity, if someone cheated, if your boyfriend lied, if your girlfriend is sneaking around having an emotional affair or if you just bring a general untrustworthiness with you from childhood traumas...whatever the case may be, trust can be rebuilt if desired. It is a process. It is not however, one we know how to do immediately. Re building trust is not an instinctual thing. We want to protect ourselves and build a wall, and that is smart until it no longer serves us and we want to let love back in. For the one who broke the trust, learning how to validate your partner and accept responsibility is paramount. You can find out new ways to get your needs met without breaking trust, finding your voice, and identifying things or behaviors that trigger you. Trust building is a two way street for couples. Trust building is an art. That is where therapy comes in. You don’t have to know how to do this on your own, you are not supposed to, I’m here to help.

Feel understood fast
for Doubters, Pouters and Everyone in Between
Many of us are reluctant to try psychotherapy until we have exhausted every conceivable means of coping with our problems. The reasons that we don't seek professional help is complex. But whether it is fear of change, pessimism or defensiveness the root may be not wanting to face ourselves. Effective therapy is about facing things about ourselves that we either can't or don't want to see. There are obvious reasons for our lack of success in love, work and relationships, yet we remain blind to them. We know that angry communication never works but we continue to act as if it does. We withhold our true feelings not only from others but ourselves. We wander through our lives sometimes dazed, sometimes confused and often disconnected. We are hurting but act as if we are invulnerable. We can be pleasant, polite to a fault, generous and kind, but, alas, feel empty at the same time. Media about movies about aliens, robots and the undead reflect the alienation from self that is so prevalent in contemporary life. We look away from ourselves. We think that problems are outside of ourselves not within us. Learning to solve the problems within us is a major goal in psychotherapy. “You have every right to expect psychotherapy to be a force for personal growth. An effective therapist will help you see your problems clearly, so that solutions become emotionally apparent and therefore, accessible. Successful therapy will address your anger and anxiety. will diminish your shame, self-blame and self-doubt. It will help you to face yourself in ways that you have avoided or been unaware of. Effective therapy makes change inevitable. If therapy does not succeed in addressing of deep frustration with self and others, it's not working. Interventions are designed to raise self-esteem, self-respect, personal authority and improve interpersonal communication underlying feelings of loneliness and isolation. I have been a licensed therapist for over four decades. My expertise is based on a wealth of personal as well as professional experience. Improve the Quality of Your Life.
I treat Adults, Adolescents and Couples primarily utilizing a Cognitive Behavioral approach but also incorporate Positive Psychology, Solution Focused, Transpersonal and Mindfulness concepts. Helping people learn to understand their thinking processes and also identify patterns of behavior that may no longer meet their needs is an important part of the process of making both short term and long terms changes. My philosophy stresses personal insight and responsibility, health and wellness - integrating the physical, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional in an open environment that allows people to commit to change. I believe that giving people skills, allows them to manage their lives in a healthier manner regardless of what the future holds for them. .

I help people to listen to and understand themselves in order to have more satisfying relationships with others and to increase their ability to feel good and to do well at work and in school. I see clients of all ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, genders and income levels. I work with individuals, families, and couples, and sometimes run groups. Adults usually come to see me due to high stress, anxiety and depression related to work, finances, family interactions or relationship challenges. What we do in therapy depends on a person's needs and stated goals. Generally we combine discussion, relaxation and mindfulness, practicing communication skills, and creating art. Clients appreciate my careful and compassionate listening, my expertise, and my laughter and sense of humor. I work with many teens who are coping with pressures of peers, family and school. I support them to stay safe while exploring who they are and who they want to be. Teens often are relieved that creating art allows them to express themselves without having to explain themselves. With younger children, I combine art, talk and play to help them learn to identify and express their feelings in appropriate ways. Kids might come to therapy because of difficult behavior, problems in school, or family conflicts. I have provided mental health services in a variety of school settings, and am able to support parents struggling with children’s behaviors and school performance issues. I have special expertise in trauma treatment, and the ways that trauma can manifest as mood disturbance, anxiety, hyperactivity, addictive/compulsive behaviors, and dysfunctional relationships. My clients express that they experience significant symptom reduction, improved mood, decreased anxiety, and more peaceful relationships at home and at work as a result of therapy. Typically, even after the first session, clients leave my office stating that they feel better and more able to cope. Sometimes I work with people over many months, and sometimes just for a few sessions. I frequently offer suggestions of art projects to help people express themselves and explore their current situation. Some clients come to me specifically for art therapy. Others are referred through employee assistance programs or other sources. The most common reaction is that making art is relaxing, fun, and very useful. People are often concerned that they "don't know how to draw." No art experience is necessary - art therapy is about using the creative process to help us get a different perspective on our problems and visualize solutions. My office is wheelchair accessible, with easy parking. It is a clean, comfortable, relaxing and spacious room, with separate entrance and exit for increased privacy. I love what I do! I hope that I might have an opportunity to support you as well. Please email or call me if you would like further information, or if you have any questions.

Attentive to the uniqueness of each person, I draw from a mix of practices and techniques to encourage each person to define our therapeutic encounter as best serves them. Various people with whom I've worked have found Nonviolent Communication, Jungian and Narrative therapy helpful. Some people have enjoyed the more subtle interventions of Lacanian Psychoanalysis helpful in drawing out especially difficult to talk about, sensitive issues. These and other approaches help me focus on the fullness of what each person is wanting so as to assist them in reconstructing their life based not on what others want of them but on what they want for themselves—especially regarding their most core needs, values, desires and dreams.

Down-To-Earth, Practical Help.
Every day I work with people who are overcoming trauma, anxiety, depression and relationship conflicts to find increased happiness, hopefulness and meaning in their lives. What is it costing you to be depressed, worried, avoidant, stuck, in conflict with your partner or co-workers, or disconnected? A large body of research shows that 9 out of 10 people are helped by therapy. What's stopping you from moving forward and getting the help you need? My specialties include relationship skills, assertiveness, conflict, anger management, anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD), career counseling, couples therapy, couples counseling, autism spectrum, and adult ADHD (ADD). I primarily use a combination of CBT, EMDR, depth and psychodynamic techniques. My office is in Berkeley, but I provide therapy services throughout the state using telephone or Skype. I am happy to offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. You don't have to fix this by yourself.

Counseling for Mental, Emotional, and Physical Wellbeing
My counseling approach is informed by my training as a marriage and family therapist, ten years of exploring alternative forms of healing therapy, and most importantly, by my own path of healing. In 2001 I was diagnosed with a chronic disease called Ulcerative Colitis. Though I was placed on an ulcerative colitis treatment plan, I was told there was no cure for this disease, and that I would be living with U.C. for the rest of my life. After eight years of struggling with this digestive disease, I discovered the tools and techniques that addressed the root cause of my illness. Through a gentle process of bringing more awareness to my thoughts, healing emotional wounds, and changing my relationship with my body, I have been fully healed from Ulcerative Colitis for over 2 years. If you are suffering from any mental, emotional, or physical imbalance, there exists a systematic approach to understanding why this imbalance is manifesting in your mind, emotions, and body, and to begin healing. As we uncover the root cause of imbalance, we then have the choice to change our thoughts, emotions, and actions, allowing more love into our lives and reconnecting with our hearts. We regain balance within, and healing occurs naturally within us. Counseling sessions take the form of traditional talk therapy, nutritional consultation, guided meditations, visualizations, as well as movement, art, and sound therapy. Healing is a unique journey, and I work with clients to uncover their own path towards emotional healing, deepening the connection to their intuition, body, and heart. I offer my services of counseling and energy healing in peace, love, and for the highest good of all. Holistic counseling can help those dealing with: Anxiety, depression, grief and loss, compulsive thoughts and behaviors, addiction, anger, irrational fears, unresolved emotional pain, relationship issues, emotional blockages, trauma, lack of meaning or life purpose, fear of intimacy, physical limitations, disease and illness, spiritual crisis, destructive patterns and behaviors, and feelings of isolation. Benefits of holistic counseling include: Increased feelings of peace, joy, self love, meaning and purpose in one’s life, contentment, greater intimacy in relationships, ability to create a life one desires, increased physical health, greater self awareness, increased ability to handle stress and make healthy life choices, and greater compassion for oneself and for others. I offer holistic counseling sessions at my offices in Oakland and Berkeley, California. I also offer counseling sessions over the phone and by Skype.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
I am an independent practitioner in Alameda, CA. My specialties are marriage counseling, individual counseling, and facilitating "Dream Appreciation Groups". In individual and marriage counseling, we address the stumbling blocks affecting your current life circumstances. Our sessions are client-centered, lively conversations. During the first and second sessions, we usually talk about what you'd like to accomplish in your therapy, as well as historical information that will help paint a full picture of your life journey to the present time. Of course if you are in crisis, we will concentrate on this situation first, and then we will tackle the less critical, but just as important, reasons for your decision to enter therapy. My approach is humanistic in that your sessions are individually tailored to You, the only person(s) like you on earth. I've found that EMDR, a therapeutic approach, has been extremely effective for alleviating painful struggles (including for trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse) more quickly than traditional or psychodynamic methods—but, once again, you will be able to decide how you want your sessions to move forward. I also do non-psychotherapy dream groups for people who would like to explore their dreams in a confidential and safe social environment. Although the groups are not psychotherapy, they are usually very therapeutic—people participating in these groups have experienced growth on many levels, that is, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. If you believe that you would feel comfortable in any of these settings (individual, marital, or group), I would be glad to meet with you so that we can see whether we're a good fit together. I hope to hear from you soon!

Child and Family Therapist
7/25/2012 I came to see Debora when I was feeling over whelmed by the tasks of motherhood and as my role as wife, I needed some guidance with parenting. In one session I felt immediately better because Debora taught me ways handle my daily stress and how to work with my kids so that they would respond to me in a positive manner. We also saw Debora as a couple and my husband also felt the positive effects of one session with Debora, everyday we use tips Debora taught us to be a better husband and wife and also parents. I could not be happier with the results thus far. -Lafayette Mom 7/23/2012 Debora brought my family back into the warm sunshine after months of living in a cold and disconnected home. After feeling desperate watching my relationship with my young son spiral into a dark whole, she gave both us tools to help focus our daily interactions with each other so that we could once again grow together and learn to navigate our ever changing world of mother and son. My son enjoyed his time talking and playing with Debora and she always gave me a chance to review the previous week and hone my new skills during our weekly check-ins. For us, she is our safety net for the future should the need arise again. - mother of a seven year old son 7/18/2012 Debora's play-therapy practice is interactive, fun, and well loved by the children who receive services. We are more than pleased with her program, and are so happy to be working with her. Play-therapy, as opposed to talk therapy, uses play and active processes to help children express feelings and learn new behaviors. It's like they are going to play with a friend who helps, rather than going to a "therapist". We (as parents of a child ) couldn't be more pleased. R. Pleasant Hill, CA 3/27/2012 Upon adopting our son from foster care suffering from a lot of trauma, I started researching for a therapist with a lot of experience dealing with high-risk children and found Debora. Debora has been my family's therapist for two years now. Debora has been a lifesaver to me. I could not have made it through all the trials which come from adopting a child from foster care had it not been for Debora and her expertise. Debora is very professional and goes above and beyond what is expected. Debora is always there when needed providing her help and guidance. I cannot thank Debora enough. S. (Alamo, CA)

Simple Solutions for Complicated Lives
Be Your Own Guru~Tuning In To Inner Clarity
Of course you are affected by your loved one's behaviors. How could you not be? It makes perfect sense that you would want to support and give to the dear ones in your life. But sometimes focusing on other people can become a problem. Especially if prioritizing others and trying to anticipate their needs before they've even voiced them has been the main source of one's validation, praise, even identity. This pattern can stand in the way of your success if it leaves no energy for your personal development. People can find themselves feeling lost and lonely in their own lives. Feeling purposeless, unmotivated, drifting, can be signs that something is wrong. Because in study after study, human beings have shown themselves to be overwhelmingly drawn to work they are passionate about, motivated to be part of making a difference, endlessly creative when given the right circumstances, wanting to make connections Often people don't talk about the way they are feeling because they're afraid of the stigma of DEPRESSION, what if that's what they're feeling? Perhaps, but most of the time there are simple Life Skills missing in these instances and with a few simple evidence-based tools in hand there can be major change. A person can see themselves having more success in communication in general, but specifically in negotiating what they need at their jobs to make it worthwhile for them to be there. They can see themselves suddenly not paralyzed when major things don't go as planned because they know how to talk themselves through it, who to reach out to for help, and how to take care of themselves until they feel better enough to make decisions from a healthier emotional/mental state. They are able to put into play a few regular practices that support self connection and develop emotional intelligence allowing them to think on their feet, experience and identify emotion in the moment and not have to act on it, see and articulate choice and so many other emotional intelligence capacities. If you are experiencing difficulty in personal relationships, finding it hard to function at work or in the rest of your life, experiencing either a confused, dissociated state or an extreme loss of motivation, struggles with self-esteem, a chronic self criticism, not acknowledging your successes or thinking you have none? You can stop feeling badly that you struggle with these things. They are often part of a set of behavioral symptoms that has points to a lack of Life Skills, one of those repurposed words, which means several things: *you aren't alone *you are ok *you can feel better because there is help, support, and these skills can be learned There's no reason to struggle alone with this any longer. I offer free consultations so you can call and schedule one today. 415-378-7506

Mood, and Relationship Difficulties
John Montopoli, LMFT, is a licensed psychotherapist and certified cognitive therapist specializing in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of Anxiety Disorders located in the Noe Valley area of San Francisco. He also provides services as an associate of Palo Alto Therapy on Sherman Avenue in Palo Alto. John is dedicated to providing high-quality therapy to adults struggling with Social Anxiety Disorder (extreme shyness), Phobias, Health Anxiety, Panic Disorders, Generalized Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Depression. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical form of psychotherapy that has been shown in numerous research studies to be effective in treating anxiety and mood disorders. The therapist helps clients overcome symptoms and improve overall functioning by developing skills to cope with the thoughts and behaviors that maintain their problems. Compared to other forms of psychotherapy, CBT tends to be goal-oriented, present-focused, and collaborative. Typically, the client and therapist collaborate on forming specific goals to be addressed in the therapy. Given its focus on symptom reduction and goal achievement, it tends to be a shorter term form of psychotherapy.
