As a licensed professional counselor and addictions counselor, I am able to address both mental health and addiction issues in a comprehensive manner. I also am able to offer EMDR for the relief of pain due to trauma. I incorporate mind, body and spirit into the work with clients to assist in the healing of all aspects of the individual. I respect that initiating therapy is a difficult step to take. Sharing the personal details of your life with someone you just meet, can be overwhelming and feelings of uncertaining may be present. I offer a free initial 1/2 hour consultation. This allows clients to meet me and see if I am a good for them. Finding the right therapist should not be an expensive venture. I am compassionate and understanding, I am not here to judge, I am here to help. I can utilize my training in family and play therapy to enhance the process for both children and adults. Each client is unique and requires a individualized approach and plan to best suite their spicific needs. My goal is to have each and every client leave with a sense of relief and satisfaction. .

At the foundation of my approach, I conceptualizes all individuals and their interactions with others (relationships) within the Systems framework. More simply, one cannot understand the dynamic of our struggles without exploring the familial, social, and cultural contexts. My work is based in Solution-Focused Therapy. This encourages dialogue to explore client's strengths, resources, and past successes. My collaborative approach fosters a sense of agency in clients, creating a co-constructed dialogue to explore and create realistic attainable therapeutic goals. This approach further emphasizes that clients best understand their unique circumstances. Therefore the role of therapist is to support a co-constructed dialogue around necessary changes in perceptions, thoughts, and behaviors. Lastly, I bring to the environment a compassionate and gentle stance, providing my clients with a warm and safe environment allowing more opportunity for clients to deeply explore their history and present struggles.

Mediator,Parenting Coordinator/Facilitator, Anger Resolution
My work with adults includes individual therapy with men and women, couples counseling, marriage counseling, and family counseling. Sometimes individuals have needs related to work, stress, childhood issues, or relationships. I want to help. Life can be very difficult at times, and a caring therapist who listens and understands can be very important in helping with the changes that life sometimes requires of us. My hope is that ABC can be your oasis, a place where you find just what your heart needs to get you over the rough spots. I understand that in all relationships there is conflict. If you spend enough time with anyone, conflicts will naturally arise. I strive to help couples manage conflict in a manner that is much more positive than negative, and create a relationship of hope and freshness. If you are struggling in your relationship, maybe it’s time to spend some time with a trained, experienced counselor who will understand you and your loved one, and accept you where you are. Working with children: I meet with parents to assess their child's needs, make a plan to meet those needs, and provide therapy and support. That support includes frequent communication with parents about the issues of parenting their unique child, and accessing support in the community through self-help groups and organizations. The first session is for adults only. This is a time for your child’s therapist to hear your family's history, the unique story of your child, and to look together at what your child needs. It is not always necessary to know how your child has developed the emotional or behavioral issues he has, but it is important to discover ways to change or work with those issues. My commitment to parents is that I will always be available for support and I will never point an accusing finger at you. Being a parent is a tremendously difficult task. It is my hope that with counseling, guidance, and the right type of encouragement, parenting can be fun again for you.

Help for Trauma, Relationships, Anxiety, Eating Disorders
It's hard to be objective when you feel stuck. In psychotherapy, I help people take a step back. As a trauma therapist for 25 years, working in Toronto, I do counseling and therapy for people dealing with the results of painful relationships. I help people develop goals and make changes in their lives. Adults and adolescents see me when they're having conflicts in their important family relationships, when they've experienced trauma, loss, or divorce, when they have posttraumatic symptoms from interpersonal trauma, when they are in psychological distress at work, home, or school, and when they are struggling with an eating disorder or severe anxiety. You can see more by checking out Dr. Robert T. Muller's award-winning psychotherapy work: "Trauma and the Avoidant Client: Attachment-Based Strategies for Healing" (published in 2010 by W.W. Improve Your Relationship
Are you sick and tired of having the same fight over and over? Are you wondering if the passion and fun can come back into your relationship or marriage? Worried that the conflict and negativity are unsolvable? Do you question if it’s possible to recover from an affair or other betrayal? Are you curious about how compatible you and your dating partner are and if you’re ready to move in, get engaged, or plan to be married? Have financial challenges threatened the safety and optimism in your relationship? Are there difficult conversations about the kids, whether and when to have kids, co-parenting with an ex-spouse, or dealing with step-parenting? Trish Stanley, PsyD, MFT is a dedicated relationship therapist who brings warmth, acceptance, and a treasure trove of skills to the process of helping her clients tackle and resolve these kinds of challenges. Her expertise is based on the groundbreaking work of our mentor, Dr. John Gottman. His forty years of research with over four thousand couples led to the development of powerful tools that reflect clinical evidence of what actually works in making relationships better and happier. The Gottman Method Couples Therapy is based on Dr. John Gottman’s research that began in the 1970’s and continues to this day. The research has focused on what makes relationships succeed or fail. From his research of four decades with more than 4,000 couple’s Dr. Gottman has created a method of therapy that helps couples break through barriers to achieve greater intimacy, understanding and connectedness in their relationship. Gottman Method Couples Therapy is a structured, goal-oriented, scientifically-based therapy. This method is designed to help teach specific tools to deepen friendship and intimacy, productively manage conflicts, generate greater understanding between partners, and support each other’s hopes for the future. Drs. John and Julie Gottman have demonstrated how couples can achieve greater friendship, conflict resolution, and meaning by paying attention to what they call the Sound Relationship House, or the seven components of a healthy marriage.

Couples Counseling Using the Gottman Therapy Method
Get tools to survive fights, affairs and poor communication.
You know something is wrong in your relationship if you're fighting all the time, calling each other names or you are not emotionally and physically intimate with each other. But you can survive affairs, learn how to communicate, and how to argue so you both win. I am a Level 3 Gottman Method therapist, trained to provide tools for couples to not only survive their marriage but to flourish in it. Let me help you assess what's wrong and what's right in your relationship with the Gottman Relationship Checkup. This online evaluation is only offered to clients of therapists trained in Gottman Couples Therapy. It's very extensive and produces lots of information about the strengths and weakness of your relationship. Your first couples session will last an hour and a half long. The second session, I will meet with you individually. Thereafter, most sessions are one hour. It's been my experience that couples that are committed to the therapy process and their marriage can usually "graduate" in under ten sessions.

Healing Complex Trauma:
Fear, Shame, Stuckness
Complex trauma is a relatively newer concept referring to our adaptive development around ongoing or repeating childhood abuse, neglect, or abandonment. It is very common, and because it involves entangled parts and beliefs, healing requires specific approaches that instill a sense of felt safety in the body before processing old traumas. Where most of us develop structures to protect us from the uncomfortable parts of life, in therapy we are developing an ability to meet all parts of self with presence and compassion.

Transgender Expert
Gender Identity & Sexual Orientation Exploration
I have been a licensed marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles, CA for 24 years. My office is located in West Los Angeles and my office is comfortable, animal friendly and located near the 405 and 10 Freeways. I received my license in 1991 and my background is working with foster children. I started up several programs and found the work rewarding and difficult. Being a foster parent is a hard job because it was always the goal to reunify the child with their parents if at all possible. I started working with transgender people almost 20 years ago and have helped so many people transition to become themselves. I was an active member of the Los Angeles Gender Center for many years before going out on my own with a psychiatrist to start my own company called, Gender Wellness of Los Angeles that has been in practice for over 13 years. I have loved my work in the transgender community and am an active member of World Professional Association of Transgender Health. As an organization we were instrumental in getting Gender Identity Disorder removed from the DSM-IV and replaced it with Gender Dysphoria. It is no longer a mental disorder and is now considered a medical condition. As a member of this organization, I am active in working with policy and procedures for the transgender community and helping them get access to the best doctors, mental health providers and all other resources necessary for a happy and successful transition. My company is called Gender Wellness of Los Angeles and we are able to provide the necessary letters needed for hormones and sex confirming surgeries to the female to male and male to female transgender person. We provide individual, family and couples counseling as well as referrals to a psychiatrist for psychotropic medications if needed. Additionally, I work with the gay/lesbian population as well as anyone seeking therapy who wants to change behaviors that are no longer working for them in their lives. I use a direct approach and believe that the client and myself are a team working together to improve relationships to friends, family, co-workers and loved ones.

I draw on a variety of styles and techniques, working with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals. Depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug problems, trauma, PTSD and other painful issues are treatable problems and deserve a focused, personalized approach. Are you depressed or anxious? Are you unhappy with your marriage or relationship? Have you suffered a loss and you are grieving? Do you worry too much? Are you concerned about your alcohol or drug use? Is anger damaging your relationships or career? Do you lack the social or people skills you need? Do you suffer from unresolved trauma or abuse? I have the experience and training to help with these and other problems. As a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC24453), a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor, I bring more than 20 years of experience helping clients find new hope and workable solutions. Trained and certified in the Harville Hendrix methods of Imago Therapy, I am able to offer focused, positive technique to assist couples in achieving greater intimacy through open communication and increased empathy. Many couples report remarkable improvement when recurrent problems are brought into the open and addressed directly. You probably have questions you would like to discuss before deciding on therapy or a therapist.

I offer the encouragement, assistance & support needed to cope with your troubles & to reach your full potential. Challenges often present themselves as a means to push us to grow, & to edge us out of our comfort zones. Change, whether self-initiated or encountered due to the inevitable ups & downs of life, can be a scary process. Resistance to these changes - & to the emotions that arise - can render us stuck, stagnant, depressed, anxious, frustrated & lost, among other things. Therapy is an opportunity to discover your true self, wants & needs, & to learn the necessary skills to create your desired life & experiences. I strive to create a unique relationship with each client, in which they feel free to be & express themselves. I value your individuality, creativity, & personal story. By encouraging you to uncover, feel & listen to the truth we all intuitively possess, you can understand how to trust yourself & make healthy decisions. My greatest passion is helping those struggling with weight loss, weight management, & emotional eating. I have personal understanding & experience with this - with natural methods, I have lost 95 pounds, maintaining physical & emotional balance for many years.
