Are You Feeling Down and Can't Stop Crying? Is Your
Relationship Off Track? I Can Help You Live Better!
How I work: First we will have an introductory conversation on the phone. I will gain preliminary understanding of the problem you need help with. If I will feel that I may not be the right fit, I will provide you with referrals for therapists who specialize in the issue you are seeking a solution for (i.e., pain management). We will also discuss fees. In our first session I will go over the inform consent and office policies with you and will collect data for the intake. I will become very involved with you and we will work as a team. I will ask you what your goals are and after a couple of sessions, I will discuss the treatment plan with you. You will be in a very safe and supportive environment. I will learn to know who you are and what your personality is and I will adapt the therapeutic process to meet your individual needs. We will discuss your progress as we go along and make changes if the need arises. We will also discuss those changes to ensure that we are on the right direction in your path for personal growth.

I am a private practicioner accepting most insurances as well as cash and credit cards.. I see adults, children, & adolescents for a variety of emotional and behavior issues. I utilize several modalities of treatment including Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, Play theapy, and Sandtray therapy. I mostly work with individuals but also work with their families. I work with all ages of patients who have lost a loved one recently or not so recently to work with them on the grief process. There are all ages of patients who are experiencing a mood disorder such as depression or bipolar disorder that I see to help them utilize skills to cope with and change their patterns of thoughts. Many ages of patients also experience anxiety that I assist in teaching them anxiety skills management. Many children and adolescents struggle with some sort of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and I work with them on strengthening their executive functioning skills like increasing attention and focus, decreasing impulsivity, etc. I also teach the parents skills to assist their child. Many of the children or adolescents I work with have an emotional or behavioral disorder. I am currently working on a play therapist certification. The above are just a few of the many issues I have worked with during the last 23 + years of experience. I have also worked with people who have eating disorders, relationship conflicts, job stress/issues, adults and children experiencing divorce issues, substance abuse, compulsive gambling, gender identity issues, selective mutism, sensory processing disorders, attachment issues, etc.

Couple and Individual Therapy
I welcome individuals and couples from traditional, non-traditional, heterosexual and lgbtq ifestyles who live in the Northern California Bay Area. My areas of specialization are EMDR for trauma resolution and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. I am Certified as an EMDR Therapist by EMDRIA ( the EMDR International Association) and Certified as an Emotionally l Focused Therapist by ICEEFT ( The International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy). My style reflects a synthesis of cognitive, body-centered (somatic), emotionally focused and psychodynamic approaches to couples, individual and group therapy. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: Many people who suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, symptoms of trauma or relationship struggles also grapple with negative core beliefs about themselves. Some of the common negative core beliefs include: I'm a bad person, I'll always get it wrong, I'm defective, It's my fault, I'll never feel safe, I'm helpless, I'm stuck and I don't have any choices. Those beliefs usually come from a time when we were profoundly overwhelmed by a frightening, chaotic or unpredictable situation. A type of therapy called EMDR which stands for ( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can be a way to turn around those beliefs and create a new adaptive way of seeing oneself that is grounded in a healthy adaptive adult view of reality. In addition to EMDR, I often incorporate body-centered ( somatic) therapy. Somatic therapy is a way to study how we form our habitual body-based patterns- some of which work very well and others that are not working so well in relation to ourselves and others. In the process, we can learn how to create new ways of organizing ourselves in a muscular-skeletal way that result in greater options and choices in how we live our lives. COUPLES and FAMILY THERAPY: One of my specializations is Emotionally Focused Therapy- an evidenced-based approach to helping couples and families tap into their emotions ( the good, the bad and the ugly) and create a solid foundation for deep, resilient, intimate emotional healing and connection based on trust and understanding.

Or perhaps you desperately want to be a good parent, but it seems like everything you have tried hasn't worked. If this is you, I would be honored to come alongside you and offer my assistance. Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. As a trauma therapist for 25 years, working in Toronto, I do counseling and therapy for people dealing with the results of painful relationships. I help people develop goals and make changes in their lives. Adults and adolescents see me when they're having conflicts in their important family relationships, when they've experienced trauma, loss, or divorce, when they have posttraumatic symptoms from interpersonal trauma, when they are in psychological distress at work, home, or school, and when they are struggling with an eating disorder or severe anxiety. I am a psychotherapist and coach, licensed in marriage and family therapy. I have been interested in the helping profession since my teenage years and have been practicing professionally for over 35 years. In my career, I have worked in the non-profit and governmental sector as well as in a private clinical setting and have served as adjunct faculty for the University of Louisville’s Kent School of Social Work, the post-master’s Marriage and Family Therapy Program and The Louisville Seminary. I have also taught several classes over the years, among them were Couples Counseling and Introduction To Family Therapy. My husband, John Turner, and I have been specializing in couple work for over 15 years. My style is very practical and direct relying a great deal on the research of John Gottman, PhD. Gottman’s research has clearly identified the skills, beliefs and knowledge that are present in healthy relationships and I incorporate this into everyday practice with couples. I also uses the strengths and resources from the style of a solution-focused counseling approach. Clients appreciate the approach that does not linger on the problem, rather finds ways to quickly work toward solutions. I practice both with clients in the room as well as through email, instant messaging, phone and vide conferencing.

I approach my patients with quiet confidence, intelligence, respect, and concern. My job is to help you determine quickly if we are a good match and tailor my therapeutic approach to your needs. While therapy is a collaborative effort, I am frequently able to uncover repetitive patterns of self-defeating behavior rapidly. it is usually possible to give new patients a sense of direction and reason to believe in the possibility of a better future. I am expert in both cognitive/behavioral and psychodynamic forms of treatment. I also employ mindfulness-based practices when appropriate. Trained at Northwestern University, I was named the "featured therapist" of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. My therapeutic approach varies depending upon what you need. One size doesn't fit all. Some people need a more supportive approach (to get over grief, for example). Others need a more active approach to allow their core beliefs about what is important in life to become consistent with how they lead their life. Ultimately, for all of us, this is a path that creates the greatest possibility of fulfillment. Life's journey requires us all to keep learning along the way. While therapy needn't be life long, being open to change is essential. New situations, in work or relationships or just in the form of getting older, challenge us to find new solutions. Therapy can be a place to start. If you'd like to find out more about me, a good place to start is my blog.

I appreciate your courage for the act of seeking counseling. You may be suffering from the effects of one or more of the following: stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, anger, life transition, divorce, suicide ideation, etc. Clients come to counseling for many different reasons. No two clients are the same. You may be considering counseling for the following reason: Your life as you know it has become unmanageable. You have exhausted the solutions that you have used in the past and are willing to seek out a new direction. The good news is that you are not alone in your circumstances. Many people struggle. And there are improvements that can be made to increase your quality of daily living. Increased well-being is always the goal. We achieve that by addressing the follow areas: identifying personal strengths growing in person self-compassion building healthy coping mechanisms Often, we will talk about your life values, discuss personal responsibility, being mindfulness of your thought patterns, defining meaning in life and discovering purpose. The result is typically that you will begin to notice that you are living your life past simply surviving. Living your life on a more profound level is also a goal. Sessions are in part based on the counseling method Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which falls into the category of "mindfulness", "awareness" and "acceptance" of cognitive thinking. My clients come from all walks of life and have varying life experiences. I welcome diversity of any kind and clients that come from any level of their own self-awareness and discovery. All we need is a place to begin and I honor that we all need to start somewhere.

Choosing a psychologist can be stressful, confusing, and frightening. Will she be able help us? How long will it take? What do I look for? My approach to psychotherapy is a collaborative effort where you and I work on mutually agreed upon goals. We work to solve specific problems within a specific time frame. After carefully assessing the present concerns, we explore the problems within the context of family dynamics and medical history. We then identify goals and agree on ways to accomplish them. This problem-solving, time-limited approach enables you to identify your strengths, focus on the problems, attain your goals, and succeed in your treatment. This process does not have to take forever. I look forward to working with you.

Beverly Amsel, Ph.D.
Mental Health Counselor/Therapist
New York, NY 10023
Experienced, Empathic Psychotherapist
I have been a psychotherapist in private practice for over 25 years. I work with individuals and couples and specialize in a wide range of treatment issues including, anxiety, depression, relationship and marriage problems. I have a particular interest in working with people who have concerns regarding intimacy and problems developing long-term relationships, separation anxiety, parenting, creative blocks, empty nest syndrome, chronic pain and family and work conflicts. I work with many young adults who struggle with transitioning into adulthood and finding their own voices. Although the idea of starting therapy can be scary, it can also be exciting. Therapy is a process of discovery about you which can help you create the life and relationships that really work. It is a process where I help you to talk and learn about your thoughts and feelings. As we focus on the issues you bring to therapy, our talks will affect the ways in which you relate to the world and the impact the world has on you. My clinical approach is not based on one particular theory. I don’t see what I do as “one size fits all.” As I get to know you, the theoretical approach or approaches I take will evolve from our work together. I recognize and respect how different we all are. This means I make a particular effort to work without judgment. I am available for sessions in my office or on the phone.

Design a Life You Love
Are you living a life you love, or are you stuck in the familiar “one step forward, two steps back” dance? Life can be colorfully painful, beautifully complicated, and completely overwhelming—and none of us were given a how-to guide. We all experience complicated twists and unexpected turns that cause sadness, worry, anger, and destructive patterns with food, drugs, alcohol, and within our closest relationships. Our lives are too short to lose precious time to unhappiness, feeling hopeless, and being stuck in the same vicious cycles. Therapy can give you a personalized roadmap to help you design a life you love. I help children, adults, families, and couples break free from these unhealthy cycles, rewrite their life narratives, and make changes to create a life truly worth living. I have over 10 years of experience working with children and families, and have specialized, evidence-based training in depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflict, and behavioral issues. Choosing a therapist is a bit like shopping for new jeans: you need a fit that may initially feel new and, at times, slightly uncomfortable as we work through the tough stuff, with the confidence that over time, you’ll feel safe, secure and supported. Life is messy. Finding the "right fit” in therapy can help you find meaning in its colorful chaos.

Mental Health Counselor/Therapist
London, UK E1 5PH
Experienced and Sensitive Psychotherapist
Every day people ask us how we are. Most of us give reflex answers like ‘Not bad’ and bounce the question back. What if the question stayed with you? If you were being completely honest, how would you answer? How would you expect that the questioner would react? In an ideal world, how would you like them to be with you? When we are struggling with painful problems or keen to live a more enjoyable life it can be helpful to talk with someone who is empathic, knowledgeable, and skillful at facilitating change. This is what I offer. I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist with qualifications and experience in NLP, hypnotherapy, and contemporary shamanic approaches. I offer psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and businesses. Like all psychotherapists I am committed to: - Honouring the trust you place in me - Respecting your right to choose for yourself - Promoting your well-being (I am professionally supervised) - Avoiding causing you harm (I am insured) - Treating you fairly - And practicing what I preach by understanding and caring for myself Some of the things that make me different are: Some of the reasons you may choose to work with me are: - Sessions go deep - often resolving patterns that have been passed on through the family. - Sessions create rapid change - I coach clients to identify and confront their fears at a pace which is right for them. - Clients are treated as a team member rather than as a victim who needs saving. - Energetic rapport enables me to sense what is going on with their energy bodies. - 90 and 70 minute sessions are significantly longer than the standard 50 minute 'hour'. - I don't expect you to stick to a regular appointment time so you have more flexibility to choose when to come.
