Couples Therapy and Mental Health Counseling
Learn Effective Communication | Save Marriage / Relationship
I am a Professional Marriage & Family Therapist working with Couples, Individuals and Families. I can help you communicate effectively, fight fair, repair after fight, help you reconnect and save your marriage or relationship! How to choose a couples therapists that is a good fit for you and your partner: I will suggest that you first consider what you need help with. Below are common reasons for partners seeking couples therapy: Communicate more effectively Make an important decision Grow as a couple Reconnect with partner One partner wants to separate Solutions for disagreements Feel understood and respected by partner More/less independence in relationship What is your reason(s)? Consider what style of therapist you like to work with. Have you been in therapy before, individual, couples or other? Did you feel heard, understood and respected? Was it helpful? These experiences can give you an idea of what qualities in the therapist to look for. You want to find a therapist that is not afraid of stopping a fight in the office and are able to structure your time together so that you learn how to fight fair, do repair work after the fight, communicate effectively and not trigger each other’s defenses. The therapist needs to focus more on the process (how to support each other) than the content of the fight (what you are fighting about). The major aim of therapy is to increase your knowledge about yourself, your partner and the patterns of interaction between you. Make sure that the therapist is licensed in your state/country. In most countries the therapist have to have a master degree in psychology, counseling or other related field to be able to sit for the examination to get the license, plus many hours of supervised work experience working with clients. Ask about specialized education in doing couples work and years of experience in treating couples. Ask what kind of therapy the therapist is qualified to do. I offer reduced fee for first consultation. Mention this site. My office is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I look forward to working with you.

Mental Health Counselor/Therapist
Ft Lauderdale, FL 33394
My clinical practice in general involves the delivery of sophisticated, pragmatic, and highly focused services designed to evaluate and then resolve the psychological or coping difficulties that occur across a broad array of diagnoses and problem areas. I employ the best evidence based intervention approaches and in general the psychotherapeutic orientation is both humanistic and cognitive behavioral in nature. Most diagnosable mental health problems and the adjustment difficulties of everyday life are problems created predominantly by faulty learning and the poor coping strategies that people employ in their attempts to manage difficulties with their interpersonal and other life adjustments. The treatment orientation which I employ is designed to meet the unique needs of the individual case but in general it involves restructuring the faulty thinking and empowering the person with replacing the faulty thinking with more adaptive and rational strategies and the teaching of new skills. I also do life enhancement and performance coaching to enhance life stills of people in Australia, Canada, the United States, Great Britain, and South Africa. I work with high performance athletes and highly placed corporate executives to assist them in advancing their mastery of their emotional skills to help them to better perform in their sport, in the career path, and in their home lives as well. It is also the case that I coach everyday people to improve their wellness and fitness or to otherwise improve their everyday quality of life and relationships. Finally, in my forensic practice I am hired by attorneys in cases that range from criminal law involving sexual assault, to mental retardation, to insanity, all the way up to post conviction death cases. In family law I specialize in high conflict cases involving alienation or estrangement. In personal injury cases I work with the range all the way up to brain trauma cases. I have worked on war crimes and other torture cases. I have worked on cases involving workplace discrimination and harassment. The list is vast and includes more than two thousand cases.

A Place for Healing and Transformation...
A Healing Approach to Helping... Whether you are facing difficulties in an intimate relationship or are facing a challenging life situation I can assist you in gaining clarity, balance and reconnecting with the joy in life and relationships. My approach in both couples and individual therapy is to help clients learn how to connect in a healing, non-judgmental way to what is happening in the present moment. It's about doing something different, not just talking about it! Learning how to be compassionate towards yourself and others during stressful and challenging times is the key to finding balance and peace in life. As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist I have experience helping couples learn to transform their relationship from destructive and hurtful to a place of healing and growth. All relationships have the potential to be healthy, supportive and intimate however there are times when we need the support and guidance of a third party to learn a new way of connecting. This is where I can be of help. During an Imago session I help couples learn how to let go of defensive behaviors such as criticism, sarcasm and stonewalling and learn how to listen and connect through understanding, empathy and support. Using structured exercises I guide couples on how they can develop a more intimate, supportive and loving relationship. I am passionate and committed towards helping couples and individuals build on their strengths and learn to create healthy balanced and empowered life. I also provide experiential workshops for couples and individuals where I teach the art of communication, compassion, curiosity and connection. In the workshops couples learn to approach conflict in a different way and connect with each other through listening to understand and learning how to have empathy towards each other; this helps couples to develop and sustain loving, supportive and healthy relationship. In my Women's Retreat Day Events I lead participants in learning the practice of Self Care; how to take a healing approach towards dealing with the challenges in life, how to be assertive, value themselves, set boundaries and achieve their goals. I believe that providing a compassionate, non-judgmental approach is what helps empower men/women, couples and teens to create a balanced and joyful life!

Counseling for Individuals, Couples and Families
We work with individuals, couples and families to help them find the most promising paths to achieve their goals. Our partnership focuses on your personal strengths, and we customize each session to meet your specific needs. Our Specialties Include: • Aging • Caregiver Stress • Family Relationships • Long Term Care Issues • Palliative & Hospice Care • Anxiety & Depression • Sexual Health & Intimacy • Grief & Loss • Self-Image • Spiritual Enhancement What can I expect in my first session? Your first appointment will be an initial evaluation. Counseling sessions will begin after your initial evaluation and can be scheduled weekly, depending on your needs. Supervision: Who do we supervise? • Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns • Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Interns How does supervision work? MHC Interns and MFT Interns usually receive 1 hour of clinical supervision weekly while providing direct clinical services to clients. Supervision would be directed toward core competencies. Clergy: Clergypersons, seminary students (or CPE interns/residents) and their families often face distinct challenges that necessitate special attention about their sense of calling, managing critical relationships and integrating new discoveries about themselves. Compared to the general public, clergypersons are more at risk for burnout, depression, and chronic illness. The perception that the clergyperson is "the problem solver" can be extremely distressing and harmful to the individual, families and congregation. I provide a respectful and safe environment in which matters of faith and personal challenges can be explored and resolved. Life Coaching: What is life coaching? Life coaching is a collaborative process where specific steps are identified to successfully achieve desired goals. While psychotherapy focuses on healing the past, coaching focuses on the present and is an active process for people who are committed and ready to take concrete steps towards their own success. What topics can be addressed in life coaching? • Health and wellness • Career change • Time management • Education • Social skills • Dating • Lifestyle changes • Family/adolescent communication • Spirituality

Couples Skill Building
When the Skills Are Applied the Marriage Will Thrive
Action Relational Therapy Offers Effective Therapy Centered in Relationships and Skill Building. Why couples therapy? Aiming to regain what brought you together: Silent tense car rides replace the lively conversations and laughter of years before. Being in the company of the person you love seems more painful than being alone. What happened? There could be many reasons why couples experience difficulties and misunderstandings that set them apart and weaken the once very close relationship. Couples therapy at ART has been successful because it focuses on partners regaining what brought them together. For Couples Who Have Children: When children experience problems such as substance abuse, ADHD, uncontrollable negative expressions of anger, depression, oppositional behavior, anxiety or any other life difficulty, the relationship between the parents is often affected, and the couple find themselves fighting to help and save their child, and also to maintain their own relationship. Sometimes, it is the wife who feels that she does not get enough emotional support and is parenting the troubled child alone. Her criticism of how her husband is handling the situation affects him deeply and the interactions between them are very negative, and both blame each other for what they are experiencing as parents and as a couple. A Cycle that Repeats Itself: Their troubled relationship is obvious to everyone in the family, and the child facing the difficulties may experience a sense of guilt, hopelessness, and isolation. Not knowing where to turn, or what to do, the child's symptoms become more recurrent and serious, as this happens, the parents become fearful and frustrated, and most of the time, their arguments increase and intensify. In response, the child reaches a crisis. Healing Starts with you, the Couple: Couples therapy along with family therapy will not only restore peaceful, clear communication between husband and wife, but will also greatly increase the chances for their child to regain mental and emotional health. It is not important to find out what came first, the couple's relationship difficulties or their child's symptoms. The most important goal is to achieve a general sense of well being among all members of the family. This is possible by developing skills that will greatly improve the couple's communication, and conflict resolutions styles. For Couples without Children: Gaining back trust, consideration, appreciation and care from the one you love becomes an important goal for couples who find themselves in a relationship crisis. It is not only important to talk about "the issues", but to develop skills that will help couples to establish calm communication without arguing and placing blame on each other. This effectively decreases the crisis couples usually face by the time they seek therapy. At ART of Florida, we facilitate skills development, which means that each spouse learns to identify and apply necessary skills.

Compass Detox is a state-of-the-art drug and alcohol detox center located in beautiful Miami, FL. Our team of medical and therapeutic professionals are unparalleled in the industry and have helped many suffering from addiction open a new door on life’s possibilities. Our goal is your success, your ongoing sobriety, and your return to normal. Compass Detox in South Florida offers 24/7 care when you are admitted to our treatment facility for alcohol detox. Before being admitted, it is important for you and your loved ones to understand what to expect during this process. Our 3-step treatment process includes a detailed evaluation, stabilization, and referral to a trusted program for aftercare. Based on your evaluation, your stabilization plan will be created to meet your personal needs and may include a combination of sedation with the use of medications, medical monitoring, IV fluids, nutritional supplements, counseling, and psychotherapy. At Compass Detox, an alcohol detox facility in Florida, we offer 24/7 medical supervision to all detox clients. There will always be a risk with detox, but with help from our doctors, therapists, and other medical professionals, risks for complications, relapses, and overdose and provides the best opportunity for a positive outcome. If you’re having trouble breaking dependency on one or more substances, you are likely an eligible candidate for a drug detox program. Long-term substance abuse causes changes to the brain that impacts its ability to function. Suddenly cutting off that supply often causes negative reactions, as the brain does everything possible to get a person to provide it with more. When individuals come to Compass Detox, they can expect a three-stage process as they work through detoxification from drugs or alcohol. The first step will be the intake and evaluation. This is where our team of treatment experts assesses the client’s current situation and needs. By taking a complete medical history as possible, our staff can determine the best detox program to meet the client’s specific needs. Some will come to Compass Detox requiring immediate medical detox, while others with a milder substance use disorder will need a more therapeutic approach. The evaluation stage is where we determine together which path of recovery is best. After evaluation, the stabilization stage commences. It makes up the majority of treatment in an inpatient detox program. During this stage, clients adjust to their new residential environment. The detox process takes time to acclimate to as individuals learn just how affected their body has become by the drugs or alcohol they have been abusing. This is also the stage where any medication-assisted treatment can begin to help ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings. Our compassionate team of counselors and therapists will also help clients begin to work through their addiction at this stage. The final stage is aftercare. Once through stabilization with the drugs or alcohol out of their system and a treatment strategy in place, individuals can look towards further treatment. Detox is just the start of recovery for many individuals. To avoid relapse and learn how to identify triggers and overcome them, it is necessary to find the appropriate treatment program. Compass Detox can walk all clients through this process, help establish clear goals, and learn what addiction treatment programs would be the best fit.

There Is Hope!
All of us run into life struggles at some point in time. Sharing the challenge with someone else can be the difference that makes the difference. With ample opportunity to talk about all that’s bothering you, we can also focus on possible solutions or ways to manage the situation. Though the atmosphere is friendly, and it times it may feel like you’re talking with an understanding friend, the difference is that the focus is on your concerns. You never need to worry about the kind of impact this discussion will have on me, as your therapist, or how it will affect our relationship. Two decades of experience have provided me with plenty of opportunity to make sure you understand that your concerns are valid and there is a way to make sense of your situation, while finding hope for a better tomorrow. Relationships are one of the greatest gifts and greatest challenges of the human experience. Having earned a PhD in Marriage and Family therapy, my specialty is working with relationships. This is not limited to couples, but also to parent/child relationships and work relationships. Because we are all social creatures relationships affect us in many ways, and the challenges they present are sometimes overwhelming. As a therapist, I can work with individuals, couples, families and organizations to inspire hope and develop solutions. This is my passion and I am very fortunate to get to share it with others. When meeting with my clients, it is essential that I have an understanding of what they want from the process. As a psychotherapist trained in a wide range of treatment styles, I tailor my approach to the unique circumstances of each individual client and case. I adapt my methods to you.
