Perhaps you have reached a point in your life in which something has to change; the sadness, anger, confusion or depression have become too great a burden to carry. Perhaps you have been a victim of profound brokenness and long for healing and a brighter future. Or perhaps you desperately want to be a good parent, but it seems like everything you have tried hasn't worked. If this is you, I would be honored to come alongside you and offer my assistance. It takes wisdom to recognize when a problem exists and courage to do something about it. As your therapist, you honor me by sharing your life with me. I will bring the best that I know from my study and experience. I will actively listen to your concerns, offer real solutions and provide relevant feedback. I will always have compassion and empathy for you in all that we do. I value you as a person in need of respect and care and will always treat you with highest dignity.

I am a private practicioner accepting most insurances as well as cash and credit cards.. I see adults, children, & adolescents for a variety of emotional and behavior issues. I utilize several modalities of treatment including Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, Play theapy, and Sandtray therapy. I mostly work with individuals but also work with their families. I work with all ages of patients who have lost a loved one recently or not so recently to work with them on the grief process. There are all ages of patients who are experiencing a mood disorder such as depression or bipolar disorder that I see to help them utilize skills to cope with and change their patterns of thoughts. Many ages of patients also experience anxiety that I assist in teaching them anxiety skills management. Many children and adolescents struggle with some sort of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and I work with them on strengthening their executive functioning skills like increasing attention and focus, decreasing impulsivity, etc. I also teach the parents skills to assist their child. Many of the children or adolescents I work with have an emotional or behavioral disorder. I am currently working on a play therapist certification. The above are just a few of the many issues I have worked with during the last 23 + years of experience. I have also worked with people who have eating disorders, relationship conflicts, job stress/issues, adults and children experiencing divorce issues, substance abuse, compulsive gambling, gender identity issues, selective mutism, sensory processing disorders, attachment issues, etc.

Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. At the foundation of my approach, I conceptualizes all individuals and their interactions with others (relationships) within the Systems framework. More simply, one cannot understand the dynamic of our struggles without exploring the familial, social, and cultural contexts. My work is based in Solution-Focused Therapy. This encourages dialogue to explore client's strengths, resources, and past successes. My collaborative approach fosters a sense of agency in clients, creating a co-constructed dialogue to explore and create realistic attainable therapeutic goals. This approach further emphasizes that clients best understand their unique circumstances. Therefore the role of therapist is to support a co-constructed dialogue around necessary changes in perceptions, thoughts, and behaviors. Lastly, I bring to the environment a compassionate and gentle stance, providing my clients with a warm and safe environment allowing more opportunity for clients to deeply explore their history and present struggles.

Certified Master NeurOptimal Neurofeedback
Are you needing a reliable, safe to resolution of your current suffering? Current understanding of brain science is clear: talking about your problem is not enough to resolve it because of how trauma protects itself and re-focusing on it over and over only makes it worse. Dr. Bessell van der Kolk of the Trauma Center in Boston, a key figure in the trauma resolution world now uses neurofeedback because he realizes that it directly helps the brain re=-set itself after trauma. This is the age of the complex, adaptive brain... We discovered about 15 years ago that our brains do not work the way we had been told. Our brains (or Central Nervous Systems {CNS} to be more precise) don't stop developing at around 18 years of age as we had believed for a couple of centuries. Our CNS is completely adaptable throughout our lifespan. This is great news for anyone who has had to live with the limitation imposed by a condition like OCD, depression, anxiety, poor focus, ADD/ADHD, stage fright, social interaction fears and on and on. All these conditions are the symptoms of a CNS that is overwhelmed and not functioning as it is meant to. Our CNS is so adaptable and resilient that IT is able to can change how it behaves, or mature, based on its own experience! So now we can listen to how the brain is behaving moment to moment and any time the brain (CNS) is misbehaving by using too much energy to accomplish its survival tasks, we can give it feedback in its own language that is just malfunctioned (using too much energy to deal with whatever is happening) and it takes that information and shifts to a more effiicient mode of behavior. And by training your CNS to do this over and over, you are calmer, more present, and able to deal with stressful situations that would have made you upset and lose energy. This approach is called NeurOPTIMAL® Neurofeedback and with more than 5 millions hours of client training, has proven that it is the safest, non-invasive, most effective approach to brain training available today.

Psychotherapy - a Growth Process
Improve Your Life with Focus on Mind/Body/Spirit
I have been a psychologist since 1982 and still love what I do. I believe that therapy is an ongoing growth process and that it is important that all facets of our life be attended to (mind/body/spirit). Whether you are experiencing a short term problem, a reaction to a specific situation, relationship problems, a truama, depression, anxiety or a medical problem therapy acn help. I have worked extensively with people that have both chronic and acute medical problems. There is a wealth of scientific studies that have repeatedly shown the value of the relaxation response, breathing, relationships and being in therapy to help in dealing with medical problems. Trauma suffered as a child, of result of being physically or sexually assaulted, witnessing a truamatic event or war is treatable. At any given point 25-50% of my practice is helping people recover from trauma. Depression and anxiety can be treated effectively often without meds. If medications are needed, I am comfortable working with your family doctor. My treatment approach is based on interpersonal, Gestalt and psychodynamic theories. I do incorporate some CBT into treatment but that is not my primary focus. I also teach clients the relaxation response when approapriate and they so desire. I am very comfortable incorporating YOUR spirituality into treatment. At times, I have worked with local clergy to help people overcome a particular problem. Please call so we can discuss whether I would be a good match for you.

Research has shown that the relationship between therapist and client, or the therapeutic alliance, is vital for a positive outcome. I make sure that you feel heard and supported throughout our sessions together. I have an eclectic style that integrates a number of approaches, depending on the needs of the client. I draw upon humanistic therapy – specifically client-centred and existential therapy – as well as a strengths-based approach that incorporates mindfulness techniques and cognitive reframing. These can help give you a new perspective on what’s going on, and strategies to help you better cope with life challenges. And I use a sense of humour along the way… As a Registered Psychotherapist as well as a Registered Drama Therapist, I like to incorporate creative interventions with psychotherapeutic tools to deal with life challenges. However, I adapt each session to the person with whom I’m working so you will always feel at ease.

At Portrait Health Centers, we provide a comprehensive and multi-specialty assessment to determine the underlying causes of your symptoms and incorporate an appropriate treatment plan.

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
As a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist I strive to adapt each session to the needs of each individual... their own specific needs and desired outcomes. Trained in many different modalities, e.g. Cognitive Behavior, Bowen, Jung, etc. , I draw from theorists that I feel will accomplish the task of what is needed for the individual or couple. It seems rare to me that use of only one theory is the only way to achieve results. I have been a Registered Nurse for over twenty years and feel that the medical knowledge I have achieved compliments the Psychological knowledge that I have gained through training and through my practice. Life experiences play such an important role in our dealing with others. To know and understand what others haved endured or are currently enduring is very empowering. I know what it feels like to experience problems with children, relationships, families, careers...and therefore can share with others the trials they are experiencing. The good thing is that with proper counseling, empathy and caring, things do work out...what ever the result are. Time and working through those areas that hinder our wel-lbeing with a counselor who will give guidance and support are important ways to overcome problems.

Lori Cohen Hutchinson, M.A., LMFT
Mental Health Counselor / Therapist
Encino, CA 91436
I am a family therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families from a relational, resource-oriented and strength based perspective. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort, where conversations and alternate ways of being and experiencing life can lead towards new paths and possibilities. Many people seek therapy because of thoughts and feelings related to depression, anxiety, feeling stressed out or over whelmed, grief, life- limbo, relationship dissatisfaction, and the like. My goal is to assist and guide my clients through dialogue and discovery in order to move towards a more enriching and liberated self and life. My clients and I work together to help foster an understanding of themselves, the world in which they live, their belief system and their lives, through increasing awareness of self. This often leads to clients experimenting with new behaviors, new perspectives and ultimately making new and different life choices. Whether you’re facing challenges in your relationships, experiencing anxiety or depression, confronting difficult decisions, or feeling the pain of loss, I am experienced with all of these issues and can help you lighten your load. It is said that the most prevalent indicator for successful therapy is the match between the client and the therapist. Feel free to contact me to set up a free consultation to determine if that’s you and me.
Kristen Crowley, MA, Expressive Arts Therapist
Mental Health Counselor / Therapist
Newton, MA 02459
My approach to counseling is collaborative in that I enter into a partnership with my clients rather than maintaining the distanced stance of an expert. My view is that each person contains within them all of the resources necessary for healing and transformation and that my role in the relationship is to help them to see and actualize these strengths. The expressive arts are an incredibly useful aid in this process of self-understanding and the techniques I have been developing can also serve as tools of coping and adaptation as well. My training enables me to integrate the arts into traditional counseling practices in a way that supports and deepens the healing process. I have worked with clients struggling to overcome a wide range of issues in their lives including depression, anxiety, domestic violence, trauma, grief and loss as well as more the more general challenge of life transitions. I have been continuously amazed at the resilience of the human spirit and the power of the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for navigating the waters of the unknown. These difficulties can be our greatest teachers if we consider ourselves worthy of happiness and I am committed to using my own strengths of compassion and a deep understanding of human nature to help people find their way along this path.
