A Doctor You Can Talk To...
And Actually Listens!
My practice is multi-generational. I work with clients as young as 11 years of age up to over 100. I have two office sites, Farmington Hills, MI and Livonia, MI. I also do consulting work at a variety of nursing homes throughout the metro area. Currently I am seeing patients via tele-health during the COVID-19 crisis. I have seen a 4 yr old and a 104 year old patient in the same day. I use an eclectic therapy mode where I choose to use the therapeutic techniques that will work best for not only your psychological condition, but also matched to your personality style to ensure the fastest and most long-standing positive outcome.

Therapy for Change in Changing Times
I have been successfully coaching and counseling people in my private practice since 1990. Typically, my clients are looking to overcome obstacles to their optimum happiness and fulfillment. Many clients are working through unfinished business from their past experience, while many are more recently blocked or stuck in self defeating habits or behaviors. Together, clients and I draw upon a variety of understandings and tools from Western social psychological knowledge and Eastern traditions and philosophies.

Counseling for Individuals, Couples, and Adolescents
Individuals, Many specialities.
I counsel individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Chapline is highly skilled at the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Clinical Hypnotherapy, Ego State therapy and psycho-education. She will use her vast repertoire of additional modalities based upon a particular client's need. I enjoy my work! I love the field of psychology because it is so vast. I care about helping people move toward psychological wellness and motivating and inspiring them to reach goals. I consider therapy to be a valuable component of the walk of one's inner journey toward self completion. Psycho-education permits understanding of the origin of problematic symptoms, and how an individual became well. This type of knowledge creates skills that are transferable across life events and time.

I understand beginning therapy is not an easy decision to make, but the result can lead to a life-changing experience. It can become overwhelming when the stress and worries in our lives become insurmountable. It can leave us feeling immobilized and sometimes depressed. As a licensed marriage and family therapist I am dedicated to providing services to families, couples, and individuals from a systemic viewpoint. Below you will find several policies and procedures necessary to begin a working relationship together. Please read through this information and ask any questions you may have. Length of sessions — Sessions will typically run for 50 minutes, but may vary depending on the nature of the case. Exceptions to confidentiality are when 1) I believe that you are a danger to yourself or others 2) When I believe a child or elder has been or will be abused or 3) when I have been subpoenaed by court order to release information. In any other incidences you must sign a release of information in order for me to communicate with another organization or individual regarding you or your family. Evaluations/Testing — The goal of our therapy sessions is to provide support to families, couples, and individuals as they move toward recovery, development, and maintenance of healthy relationships in their lives. With this in mind, it is important to maintain a neutral environment where all family members feel safe and are able to express emotions freely. Therefore I do not provide evaluations or testimony in matters of custody or separation and divorce proceedings. If you desire such services your lawyer can aid you in obtaining references for those services. Additionally I do not provide intelligence, educational, or career testing. Therapy Is Not a Lifestyle.
Therapy is not a lifestyle, it is a process. Dealing with the difficulties of life can cause distressing feelings which can interfere with your relationships and general well being. My hope is that when confronted by such distress, our work together will serve to guide you through these obstacles. Used as a tool, therapy can restore or discover your sense of balance. As your therapist, my role is to assist you in utilizing your strengths to attain that goal. Through this process, we will identify the influences or circumstances that decrease your satisfaction and discover the tools needed to overcome them. No matter if you're experiencing anxiety, depression, or general dissatisfaction, we will work as a team to identify your goals and use your strengths to achieve them. We will create the tools that work best for you to maintain your balance and utilize should you experience distress in the future. Using brief-solution focused therapy or an insight-oriented long term approach, my clients have overcome grief/loss, identified strategies for coping in difficult relationships, developed parenting skills, resolved childhood trauma, eliminated self destructive behaviors and navigated phase of life difficulties. We will apply the approach that best suits you.

Helping people resolve traumatic experiences is one of my specialties. I believe many problems such as self-defeating behavior patterns, anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties have their origin in traumatic events in the past even when the person is not experiencing full-blown PTSD. I use some of the newer, research-supported therapy techniques like EMDR, mind-body approaches, and CBT to resolve these issues. In most cases, with effective therapy, you can truly resolve these issues and leave them behind, not just "learn to live with them" or "cope" or "manage" them as if they were incurable diseases you will never be free from. This is empowering and opens the door to genuinely learning and growing without self-sabotage or being pulled back into the past. I am client-centered and believe you "own" your therapy. I observe strict confidentality. You set the pace and you decide the length of your involvement in therapy with me, whether brief or long-term.

I’m a trained psychotherapist with 15+ years experience working with adults and adolescents. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression, self-sabotaging behaviors, and relationship problems. I integrate various treatment approaches and theories in my work with clients, including somatic experiencing, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, attachment theory, spirituality, and buddhist meditation. I work in an empathic and supportive environment, helping clients to rapidly get to the core issues which keep them stuck in their lives, unhappy in relationships, or chronically depressed, angry, or anxious. Almost always, what creates suffering is the avoidance of painful feelings and/or experiences. When we avoid these painful feelings, we become more anxious, more depressed, or more angry. This leads to a vicious cycle of problems within ourselves (i.e, depression) or in relationships, which cause us even more suffering. By bringing to the surface the deep and buried, often complex, underlying thoughts, emotions, and experiences and working them through (feeling them in the body, understanding their source), this frees them up. And the unwanted feelings (anxiety, depression) or behavior melt away on their own. This then allows us to be more connected to both ourselves and others, to have more intimacy in our relationships and to feel more fulfilled in general. Using this approach, significant and lasting change can happen rather quickly, much quicker than most other therapies out there. And because these changes occur at a deep level, they tend to be lasting.

Highly Effective, Efficient Short or Long Term Treatment.
EMDR and Hypnotherapy Along with Conventional Treatments
Treatment is well organized to focus on the particular issues decided on with client and therapist. In this way the symptoms of those problems are relieved early and anything that comes up additionally can be treated to relieve peripheral problems to prevent recurrences. EMDR is a huge benefit in changing behaviors that impede better functioning and a better life. Talk therapy and hypnotherapy are also utilized in the same way and focused on the relevant issues. This can be as expansive or focused as the client would like it as to be inclusive of the problem or as the holistic approach of the personality.

If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together. ~ African Proverb
Suffering from anxiety, depression or stress can prevent you from finding enjoyment in daily life, as well as hinder the discovery of your true potential. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a unique social connection that allows individuals a safe space to explore their past, adjust their present, and plan for their future. My counseling approach is cognitive behavioral which can help promote understanding of negative thinking and enhance the ability to change behavior. I encourage "team care" and am therefore willing to collaborate with physicians and psychiatrists to maximize client health outcomes.
