Live Your Power, Not Your Story!
Clinical hypnotherapy is the blending of traditional talk therapy and hypnosis, which allows the client to access the deep “stories” of their subconscious mind and to make changes to that internal “programming” in record time. American Health Magazine reported the following statistics: • Psychoanalysis: 38% recovery after 600 sessions • Behavior Therapy: 72% recovery after 22 sessions • Hypnotherapy: 93% recovery after 6 sessions Many people believe that hypnosis should only be used as a last resort for smoking cessation, weight loss or changing habits. Few people know that hypnotherapy is a dynamic and vital healing process which embraces all aspects of mental health care. Client-centered hypnotherapy is a partnership between the client and the therapist. Through the process of hypnosis and/or regression, the subconscious mind can go directly to the original cause of the trauma or habit. These feelings can be healed and released, thus empowering the clients to let go of old beliefs about themselves and others. Ultimately, this therapy allows clients to live the life they want to live by giving them the power of choice. Transpersonal hypnotherapy is an orientation toward clinical hypnotherapy that addresses the relationship between the mind, body and spirit. It emphasizes the innate spiritual resources within each individual, connecting the client with the guidance of a Higher Power to bring insights and experiences that lead to the client's highest good. This is not connected to any specific religious orientation, but rather to an inner “knowing” that makes it possible for clients to explore their relationship to a Universal Creator and their own unique spiritual walk through life. I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Professional Member of the Association for Transpersonal Psychology and Hypnotherapy. By blending ancient shamanic tools for self-transformation with modern understanding of the human mind, I help you to reintegrate the “missing pieces” of yourself so that you can resolve unwanted patterns of behavior, find peace and inner harmony, and feel whole and alive again. By erasing the traumas of past abuse, abandonment, and accidents/injuries (including PTSD), you can come back to the experience of thriving, not just surviving, and of reconnection to your higher Wisdom and soul’s purpose for your life.

Compassionate Counseling
Investing in counseling means that you are investing in your most important assets-your emotional and physical well being and the wellness of your family and personal relationships. Having a trained professional support you in changing negative patterns and healing old wounds can often give you positive results. I try and work as hard as my clients do, because I understand the importance of the trust they place in me and the seriousness of the issues they bring into my office. I work well with people who are facing these issues: - Moving past and healing difficult events and patterns such as abuse, family dysfunction, trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD and divorce. - Enhance communication and improve your relationships with spouse, family, partner, co-workers and friends. - Cope with chronic pain or illness. - Address issues around infertility, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum issues and childbirth traumas. - Work with adult abuse survivors who want to reduce anxiety and trauma symptoms and work on having healthy relationships. - Process issues of grief and loss. - Deal with life challenges and adjustments. - Heal attachment disruptions. - Prepare for a happy marriage with premarital counseling. I work with adults, couples (married, unmarried, and LGBT) and teens. My clients tell me that they enjoy having feedback from a professional, neutral third party to help them sort out life’s challenges. My style is warm, approachable and down-to-earth. I take the time to find out about your specific situation and what has and has not worked for you as a part of tailoring my feedback to be the most helpful for you rather than protocols that may not be helpful in your life. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation so you can have your questions answered without having to commit to an appointment and so you can feel confident as you move forward that this will be a good fit for you. Find out more about my clinical interests on my Specialties page. Even if your specific issue is not listed I invite you to contact me via email or phone to find out if I can help you. If you have any questions please call or email me. My office is in Roseville, adjacent to Highway 80 and the neighboring communities of Rocklin, Auburn, Lincoln, Granite Bay, Fair Oaks, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Carmichael, and Sacramento. Nurturing Hope and Healing
As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, I specialize in the treatment of TEENS AND THEIR FAMILIES. I also greatly enjoy working with COUPLES, INDIVIDUALS and CHILDREN of all ages. If you are thinking about embarking on the journey of therapy then you have come to the right place! But before you continue, let me start you out with a few thoughts to ponder: First, don’t give up! I know the decision to start therapy is not easy. And for so many, the steps toward actually feeling relief from symptoms may seem insurmountable. It often involves call after call researching and choosing a therapist, sorting through scheduling and finances, and perhaps begging loved ones to participate with you -- it can take a lot of energy! Energy that you may not think you have. But what is the alternative? To let the problem you’re faced with continue to build and build? You will probably reach a point of frustration again and be right back where you started -- searching for a therapist! Don’t give up -- you’re closer than you think. I am passionate about assisting my clients in reaching their goals. I believe in identifying clear goals, formulating a strategy, implementing proven methods, and seeking results. There are no guarantees for specific outcomes in therapy, but I can assure you that I will be working hard alongside you. Taking your burdens to a safe, confidential, empathetic place to unload and find the right tools for change can make all the difference. I am humbled by the opportunity to participate in the important work of fostering fulfilling relationships, promoting healing, and always encouraging growth.

Brent’s style of counseling is based on his conviction that people can and do change, and that we are all in a continuous process of transformation. As your counselor, Brent will offer you empathy, hope, encouragement, advice and insight, self-awareness, honest feedback, and the experience of feeling truly heard and understood. He will not only offer you solutions that have worked for other people, but will collaborate with you to create new possibilities that are specific to your unique relationships, family, and life situation. Whether your path leads you through frightening and dark storms, or up against painful and exhausting obstacles, Brent will walk with you along the way, helping you grow from your struggles and emerge with greater clarity, peace, and strength. Brent specializes in helping individuals, couples, and families harmonize their relationships, love themselves and others, recover and grow from traumatic experiences and difficult adjustments, feel safe and empowered, boost confidence and motivation, discover purpose and meaning, live their values, pursue their dreams, and experience greater well-being and joy.

Counseling for Individuals and Couples
Counseling services are available for men, women and couples who are seeking to create new meaning in their lives and relationships. Areas of specialization include: Resolving Crises: For those experiencing crisis, I provide a peaceful, compassionate environment in which individuals in crisis can find a calm center amidst the storm that surrounds them. I have worked with people troubled by depression, anxiety and unresolved trauma. Together, we'll explore the meanings behind the human tendency to hold onto things long past their usefulness, and construct a new way forward.   Midlife Transitions: Human beings are meant to grow, emotionally and spiritually, throughout their lives. As our souls call out for change, many of us drown out that call with distractions (such as overwork, affairs, alcohol overuse), ignoring or perhaps fearing the challenge to be who we were meant to be. Men’s Issues Although women are highly intuitive, insightful and compassionate, there are times when a man in transition might prefer to interact with a therapist who’s shared a similar journey. I'll provide a supportive setting in which men can safely connect to their feelings to learn and grow. Addictions: When life overwhelms, Addiction can seem like a best friend, soothing our fears with comforting numbness. Developing new coping skills takes time and fearless honesty. I have extensive training working with clients who have allowed Addiction to control their lives. My approach is nonjudgmental, encouraging and patient. I don’t believe in powerlessness. I believe we all have the strength to change. Marital and Couples Counseling: The key to effective long-term relationships isn’t having two people say, do and think the same way. Shared interests and values between partners are important, but the key to successful relationships is the extent to which each partner is allowed to grow emotionally and spiritually. Yet people don’t advance at the same rate. When couples find themselves drifting apart or on a collision course, it can be helpful to pause, assess and set the course for a new future. Fully realized individuals are capable of sharing power, tolerating differences, and nurturing growth without feeling threatened, suffocated or diminished.

Many couples report remarkable improvement when recurrent problems are brought into the open and addressed directly. You probably have questions you would like to discuss before deciding on therapy or a therapist.

The Anxiety Treatment Center
The Anxiety Treatment Center, Inc. offers a variety of treatment options, depending on the particular needs of each individual including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and an intensive outpatient treatment program. The Intensive Day Treatment Program is for individuals with moderate to severe levels of anxiety whose needs have not been effectively met through weekly individual or group therapy sessions. It is also for individuals whose symptoms significantly disrupt daily activities such as work, school, and relationships, which can result in isolation and depression. This program is offered Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm, and length of stay is generally four to six weeks. Each client works individually with a therapist so that each person's unique needs are addressed. An additional benefit to participation in The Intensive Treatment Program is that patients can see that they are not alone, and interact with others who are experiencing similar symptoms and concerns. This is extremely rewarding for the individual as often times we hear “I felt like I was the only one who was going through this.” Our program is limited to six participants to provide a safe, comfortable, and supportive setting. Over the course of treatment, individuals will receive the following: •Comprehensive evaluation and assessment •Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) •Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) •Education surrounding causes of anxiety disorders •Social skills and assertiveness training •Relaxation training, and stress management •Family therapy and consultation •Psychopharmacological consultation as needed •Psychological testing as needed •Collaboration with community mental health professionals •Relapse Prevention •Follow-up outpatient treatment •Aftercare groups

I have been in private practice since 2002 working with individuals, couples, and families. In particular, I work with people struggling with relational, emotional, and physical health issues that make it difficult for them to succeed in dealing with eating disorders, addictions, and in relationships. I believe deeply that the foundation of therapy is the relationship between the client and the therapist, which is really just one person helping another. We all experience times in our lives when we feel stuck, overwhelmed, and uncertain about how to move forward. Therapy offers a place where we can receive caring and support, while learning new skills for how to manage the difficulties we are facing. Therapy means that you don't have to face these challenges alone and that you don't have to continue repeating the same mistakes. I believe the most effective therapy is a co-creation between client and therapist that assists you in reaching your goals and in creating the life you've imagined for yourself. Please call today for a free phone consultation, and let's talk about how we can begin this journey together. I specialize in three areas: 1.) I love counseling children and teens, especially those struggling with divorce, trauma, or school difficulties. 2.) I am passionate about working with adults to address depression and anxiety, increase their self-esteem, improve their communication skills, and empower them to take charge of their feelings and needs. 3.) I really enjoying working with MFT Trainees and Interns to assist in their self-discovery on their journey to licensure. I offer a limited number of sliding fee slots for therapy, which means the fee you pay is based on your average monthly income, and I offer reduced rates for MFT students and interns. I also accept Victims of Crime compensation, and I am happy to bill your insurance as an Out-of-Network provider, if your insurance reimburses for that. I provide morning, afternoon, and evening appointments to match your schedule. Please feel free to call or email to further discuss your fee, as well as your needs and availability for therapy.

Caring, Practical, Effective, and Goal-Oriented
Looking for therapy that's caring, practical, effective, and goal-oriented? I have 25 years experience in counseling adults, teens, and children. And, if you wish, we can also integrate neurofeedback training into our work together. Neurofeedback uses the EEG (which neurologists also use) to teach you to change problematic brainwave patterns. I've written three books, including a new one on enhancing brain function, and taught biofeedback at San Francisco State University. Specialties include: anxiety, depression, ADD, addictions, PTSD/trauma, OCD, couples and family issues, concussion and brain injury, stroke, memory/cognitive issues, and sleep problems. I love my work and genuinely respect my clients. I've also consulted for over 120 organizations throughout the U.S. My book, Mastering the Winds of Change, was published by HarperCollins. My children's book, The Little Sailboat and the Big Storm, was published by Coming of Age Press. What is different about what we do? Many therapists use the "uh huh, go on" approach. I'm a good listener, but I also help you to set goals and achieve them. How? Through using proven, effective tools for change that you can learn.

An Atmosphere of Change
Sometimes you discover that the path you find yourself on is not the same path you had set out on in the beginning. By participating in the psychotherapy process, you allow yourself to strengthen what is best in you, so that you may become more effective and satisfied in dealing with challenges you encounter in your life. I work with you to help you rediscover and nurture your innate strength and capabilities and to use your inner wisdom to guide your actions and sooth your emotions. Therapy can help you build on the capacities that you have already developed. It can also help you learn how to think about old problems in new ways and how to act differently when facing them. To the extent that it is necessary, therapy can allow you to take a broader look at what has gone wrong in your life and what improvements will be necessary for your circumstances or experiences to become more satisfying. Beyond looking at yourself clearly and mastering new skills, therapy will help you develop greater self-control and self-esteem. I offer counseling sessions for individuals, couples, and families.

Live Your Life Abundantly
I have a general adult out-patient practice. A good part of my practice is consulting for primary care physicians and other therapists about psychotropic medications and alternatives to medication if there is one. I see a lot of people with sleep problems, anxiety and Bi-Polar Disorder. I've also developed a specialty with young people who have failed to launch. These are often young men who are having a hard time finding their way in the world, are often living with their parents, can't keep jobs, not doing well in school, don't know what they want to do with their lives, or experience relationship failures. Often it is some small thing that has gotten off track that, once discovered, gets the person going again. That can be something like a small learning disability or minor ADHD, lack internal discipline, fears, discouragement, or lack of self-knowing.

Hope and Healing for the Hurting
I have been in private practice since 2002 working with individuals, couples, and families. In particular, I work with people struggling with relational, emotional, and physical health issues that make it difficult for them to succeed in dealing with eating disorders, addictions, and in relationships. I believe in each person's ability to make changes that can significantly improve their life and relationships with others. My clients pick up on this belief and make changes they were never able to do so in the past. I want to help you find hope and experience new levels of health in your relationship with your self and with others.

Solution Oriented Treatment
Coaching to Reach Your Goals
I am a interactive therapist. I am not a passive listener and reflector. My goal is to help you move from being stuck into looking at your problems with a new perspective. This will give you options; when you are stuck you do not see options. I have a spiritual practice which includes prayer, meditation, and movement therapy. I am not airy-fairy. I am very practical in my approach. I will challenge you and ask difficult questions and give you homework to work on between sessions. My approach is solution oriented. I do not spend a lot of time delving into the past but stay in the now. Encouraging good choices and good decision making for a happier more contented life. I also believe you need to take 100% responsibility for your life. This will keep you away from feeling like a victim in your relationships.
Sierra Family Therapy
Mental Health Counselor / Therapist
Grass Valley, CA 95945
Families, Marriage and Inidivual Therapy
Providing compassionate and strength based therapy for couples, individuals, teens, children and families. Sierra's approach centers much around EMOTIONALLY FOCUSED COUPLES THERAPY and IMAGO. Both of these concepts are based on attachement theory. We work with couples to discover the reasons behind their reactions (anger, fear, distance, etc) and discover more effective ways to meet each others needs through positive emotional attachment (non-violent communication, re-attachment, growing together and helping one another discover and heal unmet needs and previous emotional wounds). Sierra offers family therapy both in home and in our office in Grass Valley, Nevada City, Auburn, Colfax and Roseville. Family systems counseling suggests that therapy based on family-systems principles is more likely to produce desired lasting change than working solely with individuals. The goal of family therapy is for family members to understand and accept their individual responsibility in the emotional functioning of the family unit.

Attachment Therapy for All Relationships
Neuorfeedback Solutions
You may have found this listing in a focused search for a healing solution for your traumatized, attachment challenged child or RAD diagnosed child within your family. You came to the right spot. I work with individuals, couples, and families utilizing attachment therapies designed to address underlying emotional difficulties associate with parent/child challenges in the first few years of life. I am experienced in couples attachment therapy and emotionally focused therapy approaches that are proven effective with adults. Also, I specifically specialize in treating children and adolescents who may have experienced trauma due to childhood abuse, neglect, abandonment, multiple foster family placements, and/or adoption. These children have already experienced harm and I take great care not to cause them to be re-traumatized by the clinical interventions that are designed to help them heal and grow into healthy individuals. My therapeutic approach is proven effective in reducing the behavioral symptoms that are often associated with a variety of disorders, including Complex Developmental Trauma, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and others. Additionally, my treatment approach addresses the underlying fears, misperceptions, and distress from which this population of children may suffer, and which contribute to their disturbing behavior and lack of healthy attachment relationships. Our latest therapeutic addition to our services is neurofeedback. Finally, a way to retrain the brain for a better life. Additionally, I use individual Emotionally Focused Family Therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Therapy with the child when trauma is interfering with the ability to think clearly, make decisions from a solid base, and cope emotionally to family interactions, life experiences, and challenges. You do not have to figure this out alone. There is hope. Your child can grow to express love more freely, and your family can live peacefully together.
