Therapeutic & Educational Consulting
Serving Adolescents and Young Adults with Unique Challenges
Dr. Romeyn is committed to helping families locate the most appropriate educational and therapeutic options for their children and young adults. Dr. Romeyn takes a holistic approach by obtaining a thorough picture of an adolescent, young adult, and family in order to match the individual’s needs and challenges as well as strengths and capacities to the most appropriate school or program. This approach starts with an in depth analysis of existing reports, in person interviews, and interviews with other professionals that have worked with the family. Once a thorough picture has been painted, Dr. Romeyn will work with the family to locate the most appropriate setting. Once the setting has been decided, Dr. Romeyn will assist with admissions and help to ensure a smooth transition. Dr. Romeyn is committed to a long-term partnership with her clients and families. When working with a family on residential planning and placement, Dr. Romeyn will stay involved for a period of one year. This involves assistance with transitional planning, regular contact with a school or program to keep current on her clients’ therapeutic and academic progress, and generally serving as a liaison between parents and program personnel when needed. If additional placements are suggested, Dr. Romeyn will assist with locating and the process of transitioning. In addition, Dr. Romeyn will frequently visit her clients as she travels throughout the year. Over the past year Dr. Romeyn has visited over 250 residential schools and programs including therapeutic and emotional growth schools, therapeutic wilderness programs, therapeutic group homes, drug and alcohol treatment programs, residential treatment centers, psychiatric facilities and therapeutic boarding schools. I love working with clients who feel like their hope is gone. By examining the root of their problems I work with them to create deep and lasting change. I don't believe that the problems of the human heart are solved by quick fixes and simple platitudes. They often require a wise and compassionate guide into a deeper journey that can't be done alone.

Psychotherapist
I’m a trained psychotherapist with 15+ years experience working with adults and adolescents. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression, self-sabotaging behaviors, and relationship problems. I integrate various treatment approaches and theories in my work with clients, including somatic experiencing, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, attachment theory, spirituality, and buddhist meditation. I work in an empathic and supportive environment, helping clients to rapidly get to the core issues which keep them stuck in their lives, unhappy in relationships, or chronically depressed, angry, or anxious. Almost always, what creates suffering is the avoidance of painful feelings and/or experiences. When we avoid these painful feelings, we become more anxious, more depressed, or more angry. This leads to a vicious cycle of problems within ourselves (i.e, depression) or in relationships, which cause us even more suffering. By bringing to the surface the deep and buried, often complex, underlying thoughts, emotions, and experiences and working them through (feeling them in the body, understanding their source), this frees them up. And the unwanted feelings (anxiety, depression) or behavior melt away on their own. This then allows us to be more connected to both ourselves and others, to have more intimacy in our relationships and to feel more fulfilled in general. Using this approach, significant and lasting change can happen rather quickly, much quicker than most other therapies out there. And because these changes occur at a deep level, they tend to be lasting.

I work with adults and teens.
I work mostly with men who are feeling alone, angry, and ashamed. Most men in our society experience profound isolation and dissatisfaction with their lives, which they think is the way it's "supposed" to be. This couldn't be further from the truth. Our work together addresses these issues so that you can be alive and free. I believe that humans heal through connecting with others and I hope to make that connection with you. My approach also takes into account the larger forces that we have to deal with on a day to day basis in order to help therapy be more effective and lasting. I work from a Psychodynamic and Systemic framework but my honestly and authenticity is offered above all else.

Mental Health Counselor / Therapist
Arcadia, CA 91006
It is essential for each of us to discover our own way of being. Frequently, in therapy, people often feel frustrated because they don't feel they have the ability to change their situation. It is not always easy to face our problems or seek another's help. The daily stresses of life can build until we feel completely overwhelmed with life. Many who first come to therapy report feeling lost, alone, or depressed and many feel confusion and hopelessness about the future. These feelings are very normal yet most people feel as if they are falling apart. It is important for each of us to allow ourselves the space to reflect upon our day to day life and our future. Therapy is just that opportunity. It allows us to work through some of the most difficult struggles life can impose on us in an atmosphere of acceptance and unconditional support. Competent therapists do not offer solutions or take sides. They help clients work out solutions according to individual values and lifestyles. Seeking professional assistance is a sign of courage and a willingness to deal with life's many changes

If Life Is Getting You Down Get Help Now. Find Joy Now.
Too Much Stress Is Not Healthy, Learn How to Handle Stress.
"Life isn't about finding yourself. It is about creating yourself" - George Bernard Shaw -Do you yearn for that special someone? -Do you feel lost and confused right now, not sure in which direction to go? -Do you find you rarely have time to do the things you want to do, leaving you feeling resentful or guilty? If you find that these questions are your questions, I can help. Often there are times in life where we seem to “hit walls.” Nothing we do seems to be right, negative thoughts and worries run rampant. Our loved ones complain about our behaviors or moods that we can’t seem to control. Feeling hopeless and overwhelmed, we panic, feel anxious, depressed, sad and hopeless. It’s common to want to run away, distract ourselves, just give up, or blame others. Every artist dips their brush in their own soul, and paints their own nature and creates their own picture. As a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist, my treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. With sensitivity and compassion, I help clients find solutions to a wide range of life challenges and psychological issues. What I tell my Clients is that if you do not define you, someone else will. Blending conventional and alternatives approaches, I draw on a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. I work with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals. Work on conflict resolution with a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, achieve the personal growth in all areas of your life. “Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.” ~Carl Jung Why do people seek therapy? Some have to suddenly respond to unexpected changes in their lives, while others seek self-exploration and personal growth. When your old ways to cope are overwhelmed by guilt, doubt, anxiety, or despair, therapy can help. Coping skills are learned as are boundaries and my form of counseling can provide support, problem-solving skills, and new, improved enhanced coping for issues such as lack of confidence, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, bereavement, spiritual conflicts, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. “Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.” ~Carl Jung Our work together will provide new meaning to old problems. Move away from crisis today. If this resonates, I can help you find the joy in life you deserve.

Connect with your Best Life and Relationships
Are you struggling to connect with your child? Do you have difficulty setting boundaries and getting results? PARENTING IS HARD. There are no books or guidelines to follow. Sometimes you just sit there and think, “Where did I go wrong?” or “How did we end up like this?” You want to be a support and help your child while also setting appropriate boundaries and providing a good example. I help parents connect with their children and bridge the gap in communication. Children and adolescents tend to feel misunderstood by adults, especially their parents. My specialty is assisting in creating that understanding relationship, while also allowing parents to maintain the appropriate boundaries necessary to allow their children to thrive.

I am passionate about children, and I have 25 years of experience working with youth and families in a variety of settings (substance abuse research, therapeutic foster care, youth group homes, educational settings, and private practice). My services include: in-depth assessments (cognitive, academic, behavioral, and emotional functioning as well as neuropsychological screenings); individual counseling with children and adolescents; consultation and support services with parents; and educational planning and support services with schools. My theoretical orientation is primarily behavioral and cognitive-behavioral, although I utilize a variety of techniques based on each individual's needs. I provide a caring, nurturing environment where clients can explore their strengths and areas of development, gain insights, and discover their full potential.

Get the help you need from someone you can trust
We all go through tough times in life and sometimes need a guiding hand to get through it. Finding the right therapist can be a difficult task but one that can be extremely rewarding if you find the right match. I offer my clients a nurturing, empathetic and non-judgmental environment to explore and work through their trauma, pain, struggles and stress. I strive to help my clients create balance and develop healthy boundaries in their life so that they may find the peace and happiness they are striving for. I use an eclectic array of modalities to help my clients towards their goals. A few of the methods that I use are meditation and mindfulness, art therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, EMDR, Hypnotherapy, narrative therapy and pet therapy (through the company of my trusty partner and certified therapy dog Rama). I offer my clients a holistic approach to therapy- taking a look at all of the factors in their life that may be contributing to their pain or struggles. One step at a time we can overcome these hurdles together. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Counseling for Individuals, Children, and Adolescents
Are you looking to make a positive change in your life but not quite sure what or how? Are there transitions in your life and you are unsure of how to cope with them? Do you have children and adolescents that you are finding hard to relate to? Do you feel stressed because of everything life throws at you? As your clinician, I want to work together to find a solution to these challenges. As humans, we should not have to deal with daily stress as a part of our lives and we shouldn’t have to figure it out all on our own. I specialize in working with children and adolescents. These two age populations are crucial in human development. During these stages of life, children experience many confusing emotions that relate to self identity, peer relationships, family relationships, life transitions and school. Working with children that range from 2-18 years old has allowed me to develop my knowledge with this delicate population. Working with children and adolescents, I have been trained to use different theoretical approaches, that which includes systemic, cognitive behavioral, postmodern, and humanistic. I also have experience working in the school setting providing counseling support and working within special education. My role is to provide support not only to the child, but also to the parents and family.

Support For Your Healing Journey
Find a Place Where You Can Improve Relationships
As a psychotherapist serving Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Laguna Beach and Newport Coast I work with couples and individuals who are experiencing relationship problems, depression, anxiety, grief, effects of trauma, and marital issues. Change does not occur easily and yet I continue to be inspired each day by the courage and motivation of the people I work with to challenge patterns that repeatedly cause heartache and turmoil, the effects of trauma from the past, and the problematic issues of daily living. No matter what the issue is, the most important aspect of therapy is developing a comfortable and trusting relationship with your therapist. I work in a way that provides that for each of my patients. So, If you're tired of the way your life is going, or if there are certain aspects that you know need some attention, I'd like to talk with you to see how I may be able to support you through your therapeutic process. I am caring, understanding and easy to talk to, and I provide a safe, comfortable place for you. I specialize in helping people live more fulfilling lives in their family, relationships and worklife. I also help people with increasing their confidence, as well as working through the effects of trauma, and issues from the past.

Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families
I believe therapy should be accessible. I love to work with the LGBTQI community and with the wide array of issues unique to them. I also try to help people find a way out of religious scrupulosity and the depression and anxiety it brings. Another passion or mine is helping people control their anger before it takes control of them. I work with a wide variety of emotional and behavioral issues and seek to provide a space for growth and insight. It is essential that you have a good fit with a therapist. If you think I might be right for you I will offer you a free face-to-face consultation for you to get a feel for how we might work together.
