Perhaps you have reached a point in your life in which something has to change; the sadness, anger, confusion or depression have become too great a burden to carry. Perhaps you have been a victim of profound brokenness and long for healing and a brighter future. Or perhaps you desperately want to be a good parent, but it seems like everything you have tried hasn't worked. If this is you, I would be honored to come alongside you and offer my assistance. It takes wisdom to recognize when a problem exists and courage to do something about it. As your therapist, you honor me by sharing your life with me. I will bring the best that I know from my study and experience. I will actively listen to your concerns, offer real solutions and provide relevant feedback. Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. I see a variety of clients from ages 5 to 75. This includes people who have various life adjustment problems as well as those with personality and mood disorders. I treat children with play therapy for behavioral and other problems. Couples may require conjoint therapy for marital difficulties which may include other family members. And, of course, individual psychotherapy may be useful. I treat people who have suffered traumas caused by sexual, physical and emotional abuse which could result in depression, anxiety, social phobias, etc. I am able to assist people in overcoming self-defeating behavior which cause an inability to achieve goals in life. I use various types of therapy depending on the individual and types of problems he or she may be having. One very effective therapy technique is the utilization of inner voice dialogue with ways to conquer negative self-concepts. This may include bibleotherapy and worksheets depending on an individual's preference. Many first time patients are surprised to find that "talk therapy" can be so tension relieving. As a result, you may find yourself experiencing a lightening of moods and an enhanced sense of well-being. There's a great payoff in learning more about yourself.

Life is often filled with challenges which affect each of us in different ways. I believe that how we approach and overcome those challenges, help to shape us and allow us to experience life to the fullest. I began my Marriage and Family Psychotherapy practice here in Glendora out of a desire to use my life experience, education, and passion to help serve the health needs of our community and the surrounding cities. Creating a safe and supportive environment, where you can feel comfortable, is essential to my practice. In that setting, we can collaborate on how best to understand your situation, identify your goals, and find solutions. I bring a varied theoretical approach, centered on forms of therapy including psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral, brief/solution focused, and ensuring sensitivity to cultural diversity. Life is a Journey, sometimes you need a Guide
Often psychotherapy is thought of as admitting failure - that you are unable to work out your own problems or just for crazy people. We are never taught the skills we need in relationships, how to process feelings about past events or make changes in our lives that will get us beyond a frustrating situation. Life and psychotherapy are processes. I feel that therapy is a process through which healing occurs and we discover meaning and purpose through which we become who we potentially are. There is no one right answer, there is only your answer that therapy can help you to discover. As a therapist I believe that deep inside every being is an innate wise core Self that can help one reach our potential. But often we are too distracted by our external environment to hear the voice of the Self or the Soul. In therapy it is important to address the whole person. I look for the potential in each person and help him or her to see it in as a beacon toward which to grow. Changing behavior is important, but I believe that change comes from the inside out. We need to believe in ourselves, our potential and find meaning and purpose in life that motivates us toward greater awareness, greater participation in life and greater appreciation of the opportunity life offers us for growth and fulfillment. I feel it is important to integrate spiritual beliefs into everyday life so that we act in relationships in a way that is consistent with what we believe and that we live our lives by the philosophy of our souls. This is important to our happiness and health and when we nurture our souls we contribute to the well being of family, friends, the workplace, society and our planet. Trauma, abuse and violence where trust and safety have been violated affect one’s ability to have and sustain relationships that are satisfying and nurturing. I work with victims of crime and abuse that is physical, sexual, verbal and emotional. This includes trauma recovery and healing. I also work with serious illness, death and dying and grief and bereavement. I work with all ages and address relationship problems within families, couples and groups in therapy. I have specialized experience, knowledge and training in “Spiritual Emergence / Emergency” in its many forms. I have a Transpersonal theoretical orientation, and work with creativity, intuition and spiritual experiences. I have training and knowledge in hypnosis, spirituality, parapsychology, consciousness, dreams, meditation, relaxation and visualization and Psychoneuroimmunology.

It is essential for each of us to discover our own way of being. Frequently, in therapy, people often feel frustrated because they don't feel they have the ability to change their situation. It is not always easy to face our problems or seek another's help. The daily stresses of life can build until we feel completely overwhelmed with life. Many who first come to therapy report feeling lost, alone, or depressed and many feel confusion and hopelessness about the future. These feelings are very normal yet most people feel as if they are falling apart. It is important for each of us to allow ourselves the space to reflect upon our day to day life and our future. Therapy is just that opportunity. It allows us to work through some of the most difficult struggles life can impose on us in an atmosphere of acceptance and unconditional support. Competent therapists do not offer solutions or take sides. They help clients work out solutions according to individual values and lifestyles. Seeking professional assistance is a sign of courage and a willingness to deal with life's many changes

As a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist I strive to adapt each session to the needs of each individual... their own specific needs and desired outcomes. Trained in many different modalities, e.g. Cognitive Behavior, Bowen, Jung, etc. , I draw from theorists that I feel will accomplish the task of what is needed for the individual or couple. It seems rare to me that use of only one theory is the only way to achieve results. I have been a Registered Nurse for over twenty years and feel that the medical knowledge I have achieved compliments the Psychological knowledge that I have gained through training and through my practice. Life experiences play such an important role in our dealing with others. To know and understand what others haved endured or are currently enduring is very empowering. I know what it feels like to experience problems with children, relationships, families, careers...and therefore can share with others the trials they are experiencing. The good thing is that with proper counseling, empathy and caring, things do work out...what ever the result are. Time and working through those areas that hinder our wel-lbeing with a counselor who will give guidance and support are important ways to overcome problems.

I have had experience treating people of all ages and walks of life. The one thing I have found that ties each of us together is the innate desire to progress and better ourselves. In life there will be specific circumstances, life transitions, relationship dynamics and/or traumas that may require us to seek out support and understanding. I have dedicated my professional career in trying to do just that for my clients and their families. Therapy can be an intimidating venture, therefor I have built my profession in creating an environment that makes my clients feel comfortable and safe. I use an eclectic approach in deciding techniques and/or therapy styles to utilize in session. I have learned that therapy has to be as unique as the individuals/couples/families I treat.

My experience and training in clinics and within the public schools has given me a broad base of experience, yielding unique strengths in helping families and adolescents, addressing women's issues, treating addiction and adult children of alcoholic issues, blended family concerns, and more. I strive to help clients break free from those emotional, psychological, and thought constraints which impede progress, so clients may grow and attain optimum fulfillment in the relaionship with self and others. I have a full array of art, puppet, sand tray, and play therapy materials, to faciitate positive growth and change in even the very youngest family members. Some areas of emphasis: marriage and family counseling, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, psychological testing, addictions, clinical depression, co-dependency/adult children of alcoholics, grief and loss, issues of abuse (trauma), premarital counseling, women's issues. I have very reasonable fees for the Orange County area and I accept most types of insurance plans, including compensation for the Victims of Crime program.

For Doing Life and Relationships Well
Relationships are essential to our overall health and well-being. Good connections develop and strengthen us, and are a source of encouragement and resilience in the face of life's difficulties and setbacks. Difficult connections are painful and can impair and even immobilize us. So it's important to attend to how we interact with others and find ways to improve the quality of our relational life. I focus on finding ways of developing healthier and more satisfying relationships with the significant people in your life. Whether it’s your spouse, partner, friend, co-worker, or a family member, they matter. Difficulty in any one of them can lead to anxiety, depression, or just feeling stuck and confused. The solutions include understanding and improving your attachment style, personal boundaries, and developing skills for more effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving. My approach integrates the psychological, relational, and spiritual dimensions of life that leads to making good choices for self-care and healthy connections.

Make Life Happen!
I believe healing takes place on the levels of emotional, mental, physical and spiritual. I work from a more holistic approach to change behaviors of negative thinking, while at the same time working through deep feelings of emotional pain to help make changes in one's soul and physical body pain. I am here to help clients work through their problems so that they can have better lives and better relationships with others. I have worked with clients who have addictions, anxiety and depression. I have worked with clients who have gone through domestic violence and other violent crimes against them. I specialize in working with children who have been abused and neglected by their parents or someone that they have trusted in their lives. I believe psychotherapy can help everyone, but it sometimes is a long and difficult journey that requires commitment, time and patience. I accept low fees and work on a sliding scale to adjust to one's financial situation. If you are serious about making changes in your life, then I am here to help you walk through your journey to get to the other side of healing.

I work with adults and teens.
I work mostly with men who are feeling alone, angry, and ashamed. Most men in our society experience profound isolation and dissatisfaction with their lives, which they think is the way it's "supposed" to be. This couldn't be further from the truth. Our work together addresses these issues so that you can be alive and free. I believe that humans heal through connecting with others and I hope to make that connection with you. My approach also takes into account the larger forces that we have to deal with on a day to day basis in order to help therapy be more effective and lasting. I work from a Psychodynamic and Systemic framework but my honestly and authenticity is offered above all else.

Psychotherapist
I’m a trained psychotherapist with 15+ years experience working with adults and adolescents. I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, OCD, depression, self-sabotaging behaviors, and relationship problems. I integrate various treatment approaches and theories in my work with clients, including somatic experiencing, cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, attachment theory, spirituality, and buddhist meditation. I work in an empathic and supportive environment, helping clients to rapidly get to the core issues which keep them stuck in their lives, unhappy in relationships, or chronically depressed, angry, or anxious. Almost always, what creates suffering is the avoidance of painful feelings and/or experiences. When we avoid these painful feelings, we become more anxious, more depressed, or more angry. This leads to a vicious cycle of problems within ourselves (i.e, depression) or in relationships, which cause us even more suffering. By bringing to the surface the deep and buried, often complex, underlying thoughts, emotions, and experiences and working them through (feeling them in the body, understanding their source), this frees them up. And the unwanted feelings (anxiety, depression) or behavior melt away on their own. This then allows us to be more connected to both ourselves and others, to have more intimacy in our relationships and to feel more fulfilled in general. Using this approach, significant and lasting change can happen rather quickly, much quicker than most other therapies out there. And because these changes occur at a deep level, they tend to be lasting.

Pasadena Trauma Therapy, Inc.
If you are living with TRAUMATIC events from your past, ranging from insult, abuse, humiliation, violence, attachment wounds, or even subtle disappointments, therapy could be a safe space to address these injuries. Through a collaborative approach and taking into account the mind & body, I join my clients on a journey of exploration, growth, and healing. I can assist you in reconnecting with yourself, feel grounded, and help manage your life more smoothly. My specialties include working with trauma (emotional, sexual, physical, neglect, incest, rape, etc.), attachment issues, dissociation/multiplicity, general relationship issues, anxiety and depression, fears/phobias, grief & loss issues, etc. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an evidence-based treatment approach shown to help children, adolescents, and their caretakers overcome trauma-related difficulties. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ( EMDR), Trauma Resiliency Module(TRM), and Brainspotting are a big part of my practice. All modalities are very effective in treating traumas. EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that has been successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, nightmares, etc. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) while the client attends to past memories and triggers, in efforts to decrease or eliminate emotional distress connected to the memory. TRM is a somatic approach that helps clients with traumatic stress reactions by learning skills to help stabilize the mind and body. Clients will learn to track body sensations and bring balance back to the nervous system. I am a Certified TRM practitioner. Brainspotting is a somatic therapy that helps clients access the subcortical (non-verbal) part of the brain, where trauma is typically stored. According to the creator of brainspotting, David Grand, "where you look affects how you feel." Since our eyes gives us access to the subcortical brain, Brainspotting uses the visual field as a way to helps release stored memories. I also have sexual abuse survivor's groups, for both men and women.
