We need to feel understood, safe, and supported to create life-long change, and in my practice I work to establish a respectful and warm relationship where this growth and development can occur. I believe each person is capable of tremendous change and view giving the gift of therapy as an honor. I find by exploring both the past and the present, clients are better able to recognize life patterns which may be affecting their relationships, career, and overall mental health. However, I also believe each person is unique and do not utilize a "one-size-fits-all" approach. Rather, I work with clients in a collaborative manner, and together we establish the direction and pace of our work. I work with individuals and couples from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and spiritual backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Overall, I think you will find my approach open, flexible, affirming, and engaging. Clients usually begin sessions with a variety of concerns such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem concerns, or problems with romantic and personal relationships. I also work with clients on issues of trauma and past abuse, body image and eating disorders, LGBTQI issues, and women's issues.

Effective Psychotherapy for Individuals
+ Partners (LGBTQ/ Open + Poly relationships welcome)
Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship. Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues win your relationship? I am very comfortable working with traditional, open/ poly and queer relationships. I can assist you and your partner(s) to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Clinical research shows that 90% of couples report significant improvement within 12-20 sessions of EFT. As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to end their battle with food and their bodies. Look at my video describing the popular teleclass series for how to empower yourself during the holidays especially when dealing with stressors around food and family: "Empower Don't Devour!' Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through past traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) This well researched method has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I also help my clients release the cellular and muscular memory of the trauma (which is where trauma is often stored) using somatic psychotherapy. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch. Finally I have found Depth Hypnosis to be a highly effective tool for helping my clients get out of stuck places and create the change they want.

Do you struggle with ongoing depression or anxiety?
Have you tried talk therapy without good results ?
Do you struggle with anxiety, fears and phobias or flashbacks and panic attacks. These symptoms of anxiety also cause depression. Have you tried to get rid of these symptoms using talk therapies alone? Have you been disappointed with those results? EMDR is an evidenced based therapy which lessens feelings of shame, fear, and other feelings that hold self judgment and self limiting beliefs . Beliefs are important because they drive our livesIf (especially the beliefs that are unconscious). EMDR is a process that can easily change your perspective and disempower these limiting beliefs. I use EMDR and EFT (emotional freedom techniques) for faster relief of symptoms of sadness, shame, and fears. These are the 2 therapy techniques that bring the fastest relief to clients in emotional pain.

We often lose touch with who we truly are and our priorities
My approach to psychotherapy is humanistic, psycho-dynamic and relational. I view healing of the whole person as part of an individual’s natural development and growth. This therapeutic process provides an introspective, empathetic focus, aimed at understanding, removing emotional blocks and moving toward ongoing growth. After assessing the individual's concerns, needs and goals, I make psychiatric referrals when necessary for prescriptive treatment and work closely with the psychiatrist, so that collaborative treatment planning and treatment options can be considered. I believe the relationship between the client and therapist is where the most significant healing occurs. Psychotherapy becomes a creative process, incorporating mindful attentiveness to one's self as well as the self of the other. The healing of mind, body and spirit merges into a solid foundation of the integrated self. Through the use of a variety of approaches such as psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and attachment theory, I offer a warm, accepting environment for the disclosure of emotions, experiences and secrets that may be difficult to discuss or have been held inside. Throughout our work together, we will bring awareness and light to the areas of your life where you feel stuck. Therapy can be a place to unravel your life story in order to “make sense” of it. The weaving of past stories, events, feelings and traumas, with current emotions, patterns, stressors and events will enable you to integrate the past with the present.

Holistic Psychotherapy for Individuals and Couples
I take a holistic, body-mind approach in psychotherapy and work with clients to cultivate a grounded, more compassionate vision of their lives. I am passionate about helping individuals and couples discover a deeper, lasting sense of security and intimacy within themselves and with one another. I will work with you to define and understand the source of your struggle, understand the purpose behind your patterns, reconnect with you essential parts of yourself, and improve your capacity to grow and accept change. I work with DEPRESSION, GRIEF, SHAME, ANXIETY, TRAUMA, RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS, concerns around LIFE TRANSITIONS, as well as the issues surrounding cultural identity. While change is often an opportunity for significant personal growth, it is normal to feel overwhelmed by the internal and external pressures that accompany a change process. I provide a empathic, collaborative healing space in which to explore your thoughts, feelings and questions. My theoretical framework is a combination of insight/depth-oriented, relational, cross-cultural, cognitive and somatic (body-oriented) psychotherapies. It is my belief that transformation and healing ultimately rest within us all. Therapy is a journey toward living more fully and reclaiming peace and wholeness. I do not presume to have the answers or know what is right for you. My job is to help you understand yourself as deeply as possible, so that you live and embrace your relationship with yourself and others in a way that is healthy, vibrant and meaningful for you.

HORSES and EXOTIC ANIMALS ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
For over 25 years, I have specialized in addiction treatment, including alcohol, drugs, and eating disorders. When the substance is dealt with, self esteem increases and relationships can be repaired. I also work with couples who see no other option than to end or divorce. Through guiding each individual to understand what they are doing to continue to the breakdown of the relationship and to then repair the unhealthy dynamics, the relationship will have a chance to recover and flourish. I teach assertiveness and anger management, thereby increasing self confidence and good communication skills. Anxiety and depression are replaced by the ability to have a healthy and strong sense of self worth. I have developed a model for treating eating disorders that comes from what we know to be successful in treating other substance abuse problems. I also make HOUSE CALLS around the Bay Area providing counseling in the privacy of your own home. The counseling is practical and solution focused. I work with you to solve problems by providing a true understanding of the issues so that a plan can be made and a course of action developed. People like to know what the real problem is and how to make it better. I tell my clients that they will know fairly quickly into the therapy process that their lives will improve. The process will not be vague or open-ended. You will gain insight into what is really troubling and you will learn new skills and tools to feel better and become more clear and confident about what you need to do to resolve what is bothering you. As an EAGALA Certified Equine Mental Health Psychotherapist, I use my unique and friendly horses and other farm animals to assist with gaining self knowledge, psychological insight, and healing.

Healing from the wreckage of child abuse, psychological abuse and addictive disorders is an all encompassing process. I am deeply committed to working with addicts and survivors of complex trauma who are intent on moving beyond survival to a life of fully thriving. An inspired collaboration that sparks curiosity, humor and a powerful creative process of healing and self discovery holds great personal meaning and purpose. If you think outside the box and have the courage to take radical steps towards excavating difficult memories so as to actualize one's true self than I welcome the opportunity to guide you through this process. Drawing from an eclectic traditional and humanistic orientation and holistic and creative resources, we would work together to stabilize addictions, heal core traumatic wounds, dismantle and correct dysfunctional relational patterns, and manifest your unique potentials. The Sky's the Limit!
Child, Adolescent & Family Counseling
Raising kids is one of the most important jobs in the world. Parenting can be a lot of fun and challenging at the same time. Kids are often faced with issues that are overwhelming, frustrating and at times even hopeless. Some of them do not respond in the most positive ways. Parents have difficulty understanding why their best efforts sometimes don’t stop their kids from making poor choices, being depressed or decreasing anxiety. Through counseling I attempt to assist parents with their child or adolescent in identifying issues, overcoming challenges, and bridging gaps between them and their child. Counseling can help children and teens develop problem-solving skills and also teach them the importance of seeking help. I can help children, teens and families cope with stress and a variety of emotional and behavioral issues. Many children and teens need help dealing with school stress, such as homework, test anxiety, bullying, or peer pressure. Others need assistance to discuss family related stress such as divorce, death or illness. With a little assistance “The Sky’s The Limit!” Kids of all ages enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of my office. I use a variety of techniques when working with children and adolescents to initially establish a trusting relationship. Some techniques I utilize are play therapy, art therapy, behavior modification, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), role-playing, modeling, feeling identification, choice therapy and anger management.

Couples Counseling - Feeling Stuck? Counseling Can Help
Children -Is Your Child/Teen Causing Upset in the Family?
Deborah is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who provides specialized services to individuals, couples, children, adolescents and families who are seeking positive change. "Marriage is our last, best chance to grow up." ~JOSEPH BARTH Relationships (specifically long-term committed ones) are the perfect medium in which to grow. I believe a core drive that is essential to human growth and development is the establishment of authentic mutual connection in relationships. Disconnection and/or chronic discord in relationships can cause major difficulties in our lives. When one is able to develop a better understanding of themselves, they are better able to experience psychological well being through healthier relationships that foster growth and mutual benefit. I believe in the transformative power of authentic self-awareness. Accurate self-perception enables us to create lives faithful to our true inner selves and in harmony with those around us. Robert Frost wrote, “Our very life depends on everything recurring 'til we answer from within.” Like Bill Murray in the movie Groundhog Day, we are destined to repeat the same mistakes over and over until we finally "answer from within" and come to know our True Self - free of the gross distortions caused by outdated and self-limiting core beliefs and strategies. "A Child's Play is his Talk, and Toys are his Words." ~GINNOTT Developmentally, play is a child's natural language. Counseling through the use of play therapy can assist children in processing and expressing their feelings in a safe environment. This type of therapy allows the child to express what is troubling them through the natural process of play when they cannot say their thoughts and feelings in words. I work with children of all ages utilizing various counseling techniques including play therapy. Play therapy refers to a large number of treatment methods, all of which make use of one or more of the natural benefits of play. All play therapy differs from regular play in that the therapist helps children systematically address and resolve their own problems. Play therapy allows children to find creative solutions, change the ways in which they think about, feel toward, and resolve their problems. I can help your child by interacting with them on a level they can understand to promote healthy, long-lasting change. Although I can help with many issues, my experience and training with children suffering from anxiety disorders such as Selective Mutism, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), General Anxiety, Phobias, Separation Anxiety, etc., makes me uniquely qualified as an area specialist.

I specialize in Imago Relational Therapy for Couples in my office in Walnut Creek, CA. I also have a mobile practice in Oakland, CA. I use Imago, based on the work of Harville Hendrix in his best selling book, "Getting the Love that you Want - A Guide for Couples", to help couples understand the unconscious blocks that keep them from relating in healthy ways. These challenges often are related to developmental wounds that both partners share. I help partners become more conscious of these challenges that lead to defensive behaviors between them. Imago works and I love using it to help my clients grow. I also work with individuals from a psycho-dynamic approach. This means that many difficulties can be related to childhood developmental milestones that were not reached, usually because the emotional environment did not allow for it. I always integrate aspects of Imago Relational Therapy into my individual work as relationships are usually a part of the issue. I use creative expression in my sessions using art and client specific assignments that will help unlock repressed energy and release old wounds. I have experience with all kinds of childhood loss and trauma. I have experience with addiction issues, especially sexual addiction, and I am always looking for men who want to be part of a men's group. I also run couple's groups for those wanting the value of community with other couples.

Asking for help by society is viewed as a crutch, but in essence asking for help is the strongest characteristic we could have within ourselves. Not asking for help symbolizes the ultimate form of weakness and fear. My specialization is in Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder), Anxiety Disorders, Anger Management, Behavior Problems (Habits, ADHD, Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, etc), Parenting Concerns, and Marriage/Relationship Issues. I help you to understand why you think, feel, and behave the way you do, to resolve negative feelings, to build on your strengths, and to teach you skills that will enable you to live the way you want to. For couples and families, this approach is extended to help all involved and to the dynamics of the relationships. I employ a collaborative, problem-solving, and skill-learning approach. Together we will identify your needs, formulate a plan, and follow a course of therapy that is best suited to your needs. We will learn from the past, make changes in the present, and work toward your future goals.

Do you feel that you are searching for solutions but getting stuck? What are you searching with...your heart or your head? In essence, we start to stray away from our inner guidance and we begin to lose faith in ourselves. We stop listening to our heart’s inner guidance and move up to our brain believing that’s where the answers lie. That’s a big mistake. Because then we become unsure and lose trust and hope...in ourselves... in others... maybe even in everything. It doesn't have to be that way and you don’t have to go it alone. I offer a helping hand in difficult times. I would love to help you learn to listen to the small still voice inside your heart. • Having no office, I offer phone sessions-save money on gas and you can be in the comfort and privacy of your own home. • Convenient flexible appointment times

Feminist Therapy Practice, Trauma Experts
Therapy Specialists! Expect More; Expect the Best! LATN
My practice is a unique type of practice. I am a firm believer that 2 heads are better than one. So, I have decided to form a group network of therapists who collaborate together to provide the best services that we can offer! We do more than just one therapist can do alone. I hired a team of licensed therapists who could work together, each offering a unique perspective, training and expertise, enabling us all to be able to provide you with better trained, skilled and experienced clinicians because we cross-train each other! We discuss case issues and collaborate to offer superior services to our clientele! For example, I am the owner and director of LA Therapy Network. I am a feminist therapist, have special knowledge and experience helping women in transitions and transitional ages, am expert in the treatment of trauma and trauma related syndromes, and I have over 25 years working with alternative families, adolescents, women and various sexual and gender variant communities. I am especially knowledgeable about women's issues, sex crimes, impact of sudden deaths, teen issues and the GLBTQI communities. I am trained in the treatment of extreme forms of trauma and chronic, repeated abuse/violence. If you are a person dealing with rape, incest or sexual abuse/violence for example, I am ideal therapist to contact. However I don't have as much experience in the treatment of couples, but I do have 2 therapists who are excellent at treating couples! So, if you are a gay male couple who is seeking a sensitive therapist who has an expertise in trauma you may seek me out. I will consult with my colleagues who treat couples to ensure that I am providing you with better care. I have ready access to therapists who are more knowledgeable and thus you benefit! Whereas if I were in practice on my own, you'd be left to getting only my knowledge and you'd have to hope I knew enough about what I was doing. This is really the truth about individual private practices. A therapist only is as good as his/her training. And let’s face it, there is only so much one can focus their training on. Thus... a group network of therapists makes all of us better! I make sure that every therapist here has different training, expertise and approaches and understandings of how to help clients. That way we all benefit... and that means we can pass our skills as a team onto you! It’s like getting an entire skilled clinical team of experts in one therapist! In addition, let’s say there are situations where I want to refer you out to seek additional services. Often I am just going to refer you to another member of my team. That way you are going to get a better chance of us collaborating closely together! Not so if I were just working on my own. I'd send you out to another professional who is working solo as well. The truth is we won't talk a lot. That means you as the customer get less than ideal care. That’s the whole idea of why I formed LATN, LA Therapy Network!

Psychotherapy, whether it be for the individual, the couple, or the family can be an invaluable experience. Psychotherapy can mean coming to a better understanding of yourself—becoming an expert on the self. It can mean understanding others around you and understanding your relationship with them. There are a variety of reasons why people find therapy helpful. In addition to therapy's being instrumental in helping people confront depression, general anxieties, and drug and alcohol abuse, psychotherapy can also be a valuable tool in helping people through particularly stressful transition times. Every person, every family undergoes life transitions. Some transitions are more stressful than others, and the intensity of the stress may depend on a confluence of events. For example, for some, the death or illness of a family member may be the stressor for which they seek help. For others, it is a career change or a geographic move. Other transitions that may precipitate the need for therapy include the birth of a child, the dissolution of a marriage, or “simply” the youngest's leaving home. Such life events marshal changes in our lives and create a disequilibrium. To learn skills to understand and hurdle the disequilibrium, psychotherapy can be of immense and lasting value.

It is essential for each of us to discover our own way of being. Frequently, in therapy, people often feel frustrated because they don't feel they have the ability to change their situation. It is not always easy to face our problems or seek another's help. The daily stresses of life can build until we feel completely overwhelmed with life. Many who first come to therapy report feeling lost, alone, or depressed and many feel confusion and hopelessness about the future. These feelings are very normal yet most people feel as if they are falling apart. It is important for each of us to allow ourselves the space to reflect upon our day to day life and our future. Therapy is just that opportunity. It allows us to work through some of the most difficult struggles life can impose on us in an atmosphere of acceptance and unconditional support. Competent therapists do not offer solutions or take sides. They help clients work out solutions according to individual values and lifestyles. Seeking professional assistance is a sign of courage and a willingness to deal with life's many changes

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a strong backround in extended family systems therapy; however, I am trained in many other types of effective therapy. I have trained and worked in this venue for over fifteen years, seeing couples, individuals, families, adolescents, and children. My experience and training in clinics and within the public schools has given me a broad base of experience, yielding unique strengths in helping families and adolescents, addressing women's issues, treating addiction and adult children of alcoholic issues, blended family concerns, and more. I strive to help clients break free from those emotional, psychological, and thought constraints which impede progress, so clients may grow and attain optimum fulfillment in the relaionship with self and others. I have a full array of art, puppet, sand tray, and play therapy materials, to faciitate positive growth and change in even the very youngest family members. Some areas of emphasis: marriage and family counseling, individual psychotherapy, group therapy, psychological testing, addictions, clinical depression, co-dependency/adult children of alcoholics, grief and loss, issues of abuse (trauma), premarital counseling, women's issues. I have very reasonable fees for the Orange County area and I accept most types of insurance plans, including compensation for the Victims of Crime program.

If Life Is Getting You Down Get Help Now. Find Joy Now.
Too Much Stress Is Not Healthy, Learn How to Handle Stress.
"Life isn't about finding yourself. It is about creating yourself" - George Bernard Shaw -Do you yearn for that special someone? -Do you feel lost and confused right now, not sure in which direction to go? -Do you find you rarely have time to do the things you want to do, leaving you feeling resentful or guilty? If you find that these questions are your questions, I can help. Often there are times in life where we seem to “hit walls.” Nothing we do seems to be right, negative thoughts and worries run rampant. Our loved ones complain about our behaviors or moods that we can’t seem to control. Feeling hopeless and overwhelmed, we panic, feel anxious, depressed, sad and hopeless. It’s common to want to run away, distract ourselves, just give up, or blame others. Every artist dips their brush in their own soul, and paints their own nature and creates their own picture. As a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist, my treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. With sensitivity and compassion, I help clients find solutions to a wide range of life challenges and psychological issues. What I tell my Clients is that if you do not define you, someone else will. Blending conventional and alternatives approaches, I draw on a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. I work with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals. Work on conflict resolution with a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, achieve the personal growth in all areas of your life. “Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.” ~Carl Jung Why do people seek therapy? Some have to suddenly respond to unexpected changes in their lives, while others seek self-exploration and personal growth. When your old ways to cope are overwhelmed by guilt, doubt, anxiety, or despair, therapy can help. Coping skills are learned as are boundaries and my form of counseling can provide support, problem-solving skills, and new, improved enhanced coping for issues such as lack of confidence, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, bereavement, spiritual conflicts, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. “Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.” ~Carl Jung Our work together will provide new meaning to old problems. Move away from crisis today. If this resonates, I can help you find the joy in life you deserve.

Do you feel that your life is out of control? Do you feel misunderstood? Are you worried about the way your child or teenager is behaving? Do you wish things could be different? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then you’re not alone. Many of us experience ups and downs, and perhaps you’re experiencing more downs than ups. So how do you change that? Sometimes all it takes is one or two changes to get your life moving in a more positive direction. Together, we can figure out the changes that you can comfortably make to achieve a more fulfilling relationship, or to have a better understanding of your child or teenager, so that you will experience a sense of calm and happiness in your everyday life. I can also meet with your child or teen, individually or in a group setting and help them with issues such as: anger management, bullying, depression, socialization skills, and drugs & alcohol abuse. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I have created a therapy system called OM Rhythm Therapy, using hand drums and small percussion instruments, which I use with children and adults. I also play the didgeridoo, an Australian Aborigine instrument which is one of the oldest instruments known. The didgeridoo induces a meditative state, as well as a form of vibrational healing.

Stress often interferes with this; it doesn't have to be that way. A warm, professional atmosphere and a variety of bio-behavioral techniques can provide just the support necessary to help people be the very best they can be. I am a living testimonial to the effectiveness of the complementary therapeutic approach to health. A combination of bio-behavioral and psychodynamic, creative approaches are used in therapy sessions. EMDR work by changing feeling states of past memory
I offer a healing warm environment utilizing the most modern methods in treatment. EMDR utilized by a well trained professional can change the quality of your life. Also I provide EEG Neurofeedback for patients with learning problems and attention issues. I have 14 years experience in the field completing my graduate work in 1999 and I am professionally trained by the Northern California Regional Coordinator for the EMDR International Association and am now a licensed trained EMDR Psychotherapist. EMDR can restructure memories creating new positive pathways resulting in decreased anxiety, improved mood and better sleep. I addition I provide a super bill for individuals with PPO or POS insurance. EMDR is brief therapy and is very powerful to change negative memories linked to undiscovered childhood trauma which feed and leads to long term anxiety and depression removing the locked dysfunctional distortion within the mind. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy approaches. Could EMDR help me? A growing body of evidence is showing that many psychological conditions, including depression, often start with a stressful or traumatic experience. We are finding that EMDR Therapy with a Certified EMDR therapist can help significantly with symptoms of PTSD, phobias, depression, anxiety, panic, early and complex adverse experiences in childhood, and much more. It also has a strong track record for performance enhancement in a wide variety of fields — school, work, business, sales, sports, the arts, and that Most Popular Fear of All Time: public speaking.

*I accept insurance and am a provider for: Cigna, Aetna, Value Options, Magellan, MHN, CHIPA and more. Psychology is my true calling, my gift, and my passion. I do not believe in labels of dysfunction. I see the potential for true "health" in every individual. I am Dr. Susan Murphy, PsyD, my daughter (Ally Tracy) and I, both USC grads, have joined forces as a dynamic mother/daughter duo, combining over 15 years of Psychology and Holistic practice experiences, to provide integrated counseling in the Palm Springs area. We offer individual, family and group counseling for a wide variety of your concerns and issues. We also give talks and workshops on many mental health issues . I also founded a Drink Moderation program called Motivational Recovery. This 6 week program, based on a Harvard research study, and practiced in Europe and Canada for dozens of years, allows the problem drinker the choice of learning to drink moderately or choose abstinence. I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I find hypnosis a wonderful adjunct to quickly uncover, explore, and heal issues from past childhood trauma and experiences, present fears, and future anxieties. These issues or patterns, once helping us survive childhood, can now be making our lives unmanageable. Releasing past negative issues, whether through traditional therapy, or hypnosis, can help us reclaim our sense of trust and our ability for intimacy and sexuality without fear and guilt. I also specialize in counseling for sexual addictions. Many perceived sexual "addictions" are not really "addictions", but a result of our not being able to really connect with anybody. One way to tell if you are engaged in healthy or unhealthy sexual activity is how out of control you feel and are you causing others and yourself pain. Ally Tracy has a unique gift as an intuitive counselor, specializing in the creative and healing arts-such as, Chakra Energy Balancing, Meditative Practices, Creative Art Therapy, Life Coaching and Self-esteem building. Ally is a published freelance writer and studied and taught drama in New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles. There is no magic cure or door; the answers are inside of you and we can help you uncover and implement them for a better life. The life you deserve.
