Speech and Language Therapy
Extremely friendly, relationship based practice environment. We analyze and match your child's developmental level. Children undergo a thorough dynamic assessment. We take into account child's individual differences (sensory, physical, cognitive, social - emotional development). Each child has a unique way of taking in the information from the world- sights, sounds, touch, etc. - and responding to it. We take into account the biological differences that may be influencing your child's ability to learn and grow. We are relationship-based and build relationships with primary caregivers, and think that it is a critical element in helping a child return to a healthy developmental path. * Individual as well as group therapy are available.

When working with adults, whether it be Accent Modification or Voice Improvement or Business Presentation Skills, I am dedicated to helping each client reach their maximum potential. In expanding the treatments that I offer to clients, I have bridged the gap between oral/social communication and how our bodies communicate. Physical restrictions can impact oral communication, as well as learning and attention skills. Generate Fluent Speech with Dynamic Stuttering Therapy
People of all ages come to the Communication Therapy Institute for treatment and advice concerning stuttering. In addition many student clinicians have done their internship at our clinic. Since CTI treats only people who stutter, the entire staff is knowledgeable about the many issues related to stuttering and is experienced in finding solutions to the problems that our clients and their families face. Our treatment approach is holistic and focuses on the person who presents a problem of speech fluency, instead of focusing on the speech itself. Our goal is to help people who stutter experience the pleasure of speaking and communicating thoughts and ideas. At Online Stuttering Therapy, we treat people who stutter from the age of approximately 14 years through adult. When treating children under the age of 18 we require an online discussion with parents or legal guardians prior to beginning therapy and at intervals during the therapy process. The Dynamic Stuttering Therapy Workbook is used as a basis for treatment. Although all people who participate in treatment learn the same normal way of generating speech, the sessions are individualized to suit each client’s needs. The therapy consists of practical activities that precipitate change in the way the brain functions to produce speech, beliefs related to speaking, attitudes and behavior. Our treatment approach is holistic and focuses on the person who presents a problem of speech fluency, instead of focusing on the speech itself. Our goal is to help people who stutter experience the pleasure of speaking and communicating thoughts and ideas. Stuttering Online Therapy is a videoconference clinical treatment delivery o

Effective Communication for All
My practice consists primarily of independent evaluations and consultation. My experience lies largely in the areas of augmentative alternative communication (AAC), working with individuals with autism, and students with significant language learning disabilities. I have spent almost 40 years working with children and adolescents with autism; in public and private school settings, in day and residential programs. I have a strong background in applied behavior analysis, but also with naturalistic and environmental approaches. I focus on development of language and literacy skills, especially for students who are primarily nonverbal. I am familiar with the whole range of augmentative communication systems, and teaching strategies for developing genuine communication skills. I also worked in a public school district with students in substantially separate language-based classrooms, both team-teaching with special education teachers and transitioning students into general education settings. I perform independent evaluations for families and schools, looking closely at specific areas of strength and weakness in order to make recommendations that will help make student successful in an appropriate academic setting. I perform AAC evaluations for a wide range of individuals with all types of disabilities and needs. I try to best match the individual’s needs to the features available in no-tech, low-tech, and/or high-technology AAC systems. I am familiar with the range of alternate access possibilities, the needs of students with cortical vision impairments, and in training partners as scanners.

Speech and Language Therapy and Aba Therapy in One Location
Building BLOCS serves children with autism and other language, behavior, and learning needs in the greater austin area. Challenging behaviors often arise because children lack the ability to communicate. At Building BLOCS, the behavior therapist and language therapist collaborate on goals and methods, realizing that each of these areas is dependent on and contributes to the other. Also, ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) and speech therapy are sought for most children with autism. It makes sense to house the two in one location. Our purpose is to help children learn the communication, behavioral, and social skills necessary to reach their full potential. As an interdisciplinary team, we will meet the individual needs of each child and his family in a supportive and nurturing environment. We believe that a child’s language, behavior, social cognition, and sensory needs work in concert, and by integrating our therapies and approaches, we can make the greatest impact.

Develop Skills. Build Confidence.
Brain Training and Speech-Language Pathology Services The Brain Trainer works with clients as early as preschool, all the way to seniors. We believe that EVERYONE can have a better brain, regardless of their age. Our clients consist of school aged children who are struggling in the areas of math and reading or those who are excelling in school and want to be pushed to the next level. Clients who have an ADD/ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Dyslexia or a speech and language diagnosis will also make huge changes while enrolled in one of our customized programs. Our adult clients include those who want to gain a competitive edge at work or stay sharp in retirement. We also serve adults with ADD/ ADHD, dyslexia or following a stroke or brain injury. The process begins with an assessment, administered by our director, Vicki Parker, to determine a client’s strengths and weaknesses. After the assessment, she will design, a customized training program. Clients will then begin to work with their own personal brain trainer, to strengthen weak cognitive skill areas. This is not tutoring —it is training that actually improves the brain from now and for years to come. The customized programs will be filled with activities and tasks that feel like games. You will gain fascinating insights into how the mind functions and how nearly everyone can think more quickly, clearly and creatively. It’s fun and it works. Speech Services Dr. Vicki Parker, the director of The Brain Trainer and a Speech Language Pathologist for the past 30 years, provides Speech Therapy at our facility. A speech language pathologist, evaluates and treats cog-nitive and communication disorders. Here at The Brain Trainer, we work on Cognition—the building blocks of how we think, and Communication Skills—the ability to convey our messages to others. Specialization in Orofacial Facial Myology
Santa Fe Therapy Associates delivers speech-language therapy, orofacial myofunctional therapy, and occupational therapy to all ages of clients. We have been serving the nothern New Mexico community for 5 years. Melissa Wilson, M.Ed., COM, CCC/SLP is the owner and director of this practice. Melissa received her certification in the practice of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy in May of this year. She is a member of the International Association of Orofacial Myology. The International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) is a multidisciplinary group of health professionals who benefit from their knowledge and expertise in the areas of speech pathology and the dental fields thus providing specialized therapy in the treatment of orofacial disorders such as habitual open mouth posture, sucking habits (thumb, fingers, pacifiers etc), ineffective chewing and many more. Orofacial myofunctional disorders include one or a combination of the following: 1.abnormal thumb, finger, lip, and tongue sucking habits 2.an inappropriate mouth-open lips-open resting posture problem 3.a forward interdental rest posture of the tongue problem 4.a forward rest position of the tongue against the maxillary incisors problem 5.a lateral, posterior interdental tongue rest posture problem 6.inappropriate thrusting of the tongue in speaking and/or swallowing. What are the Consequences of OMDs? These abnormal habit patterns, functional activities, and postures can open the dental bite beyond the normal rest position. This can result in a disruption of dental development in children and over-eruption of selected teeth in adults. Over time, dental malocclusion, cosmetic problems, and even changes in jaw growth and position are observed in some patients with OMDs. Examples of changes that can result from a chronic open mouth rest posture include an increased vertical height of the face, a retruded chin, a downward and backward growth of the lower face (rather than downward and forward), and flaccid and hypotonic lips (Proffit, 1986).
