Welcome to Ardent; we are dedicated to you. Our therapists utilize a direct and holistic approach to: individual, couples, family, marriage, adolescent/child counseling and life coaching. Our goal is to find the best therapist and environment for your needs, then tailor our approach to help you gain a deeper understanding into your life. We all seek connection. It’s a natural drive in life. As we go about our day-to-day lives, we can lose connection to ourselves and others, leaving us feeling alone, disconnected, and vulnerable. Feeling connected to ourselves and others is necessary to reach our fullest potential. It’s our goal to help you achieve this potential and flourish in your life. Our mission at Ardent Counseling Center is to provide compassionate psycho therapeutic care to clients of all backgrounds. We strive to take an individualized approach to therapy, which emphasizes attention to each client’s unique needs. Our experienced staff specializes in a wide variety of issues in individual, couples, family and adolescent/child therapy. Whether you would prefer an individual counselor or would benefit from working in a group with others who have similar challenges, we provide counseling services to help you manage and thrive. Our staff is trained in environmental therapy, which allows you to meet in a wide variety of settings including: a traditional office, coffee shops, your home, school - even a park or a favorite cafe. The intention is to help you feel comfortable and supported as you journey through the process of change. Our diverse staff of female and male counselors focus on truly listening to our clients and offering compassionate suggestions to issues and concerns that are affecting their lives. Each are not only licensed and highly qualified, but are hand-picked for thier own unique ability to connect with a wide variety of clients. We are able to assist with the many struggles facing you today. A simple phone assessment can assist us in placing you with the best therapist for your geographical and emotional needs. Sometimes the process of setting up an initial appointment can be difficult. Ardent strives to alleviate such concerns by making this process as easy as possible. You can request to speak with a particular therapist to learn about how therapy might help you. Once you are comfortable, you can schedule a session. We are dedicated to helping you create meaningful change with a lasting impact on your life and happiness. Choosing a therapist that is right for you is an important part of this process. If you want to create meaningful change... ...we will be there every step of the way.

I approach my patients with quiet confidence, intelligence, respect, and concern. My job is to help you determine quickly if we are a good match and tailor my therapeutic approach to your needs. While therapy is a collaborative effort, I am frequently able to uncover repetitive patterns of self-defeating behavior rapidly. it is usually possible to give new patients a sense of direction and reason to believe in the possibility of a better future. I am expert in both cognitive/behavioral and psychodynamic forms of treatment. I also employ mindfulness-based practices when appropriate. Trained at Northwestern University, I was named the "featured therapist" of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. My therapeutic approach varies depending upon what you need. One size doesn't fit all. Some people need a more supportive approach (to get over grief, for example). Others need a more active approach to allow their core beliefs about what is important in life to become consistent with how they lead their life. Ultimately, for all of us, this is a path that creates the greatest possibility of fulfillment. Life's journey requires us all to keep learning along the way. While therapy needn't be life long, being open to change is essential. New situations, in work or relationships or just in the form of getting older, challenge us to find new solutions. Therapy can be a place to start. If you'd like to find out more about me, a good place to start is my blog.

We work with individuals and couples to address issues including trust, vulnerability (physical, emotional), sexuality & sexual identity, communication, and conflict. We often meet with couples who are looking to improve their relationship, enhance mutual understanding and compassion for each other, create a closer connection, heal after an infidelity, handle recurrent arguments and money conflicts, address sexuality (including divergent desires), or decide if they should stay together or part ways. There are many therapeutic approaches used when meeting with a couple. We like to evaluate what approaches to use based on your needs and style as a couple. There isn’t one “right approach” to doing therapy as there isn’t one way to live. We provide education on what we have found useful in relationships. We invite you to look at new ideas and possibilities for living. We encourage you to try new ways of behaving and communicating. We like to learn from you about what you really want in your relationship. We are very interested in what each partner has to say about what has led to their struggle or becoming stuck. We want to know what you have done to change your situation, what has worked and what has not worked for you. We are careful not to duplicate what hasn’t worked. Counselors avoid taking sides because it is counterproductive to long-term success. That said, if we feel one partner needs to make a change in a particular area, we will say so. We have spent years helping men and women from every imaginable background and we are capable of seeing things empathetically from both perspectives. We emphasize the importance of forming a connection with your partner. This means there is an implied understanding of values, a common frame of reference, a series of shared experience and a sense that you are both on the same page. These connections form the bonds that foster trust and promote intimacy. We all need help from time to time and it is a sign of strength and intelligence to know when to seek support. If I have a leaky faucet and the only tool I have is a hammer, just banging on my pipes is only going to make the problem worse. The pipes burst, my basement floods and the foundation cracks. Or I could just call the plumber and he gives me a new tool called a wrench, so next time I have a leak I can fix it myself. Throughout our lives, we improve our skills by taking “courses” and practicing what we learn. If we played sports, we were coached in the basics and practiced them until they became memorized. At work, we were shown how to perform tasks, then got better and better as we repeated the process. To learn cooking or grilling, we followed recipes or observed someone with known abilities, then added our personal touches. Being emotionally healthy is another skill, one that gets little or no attention until failure to do so results in trouble. I Am Here to Work Alongside You as You Make Positive Change!
I work alongside individuals and families as we work together to heal their wounds and transform their lives. Using a holistic approach, I take into consideration the mind, body, and spirit, and how these elements interact and respond to the external environment. I will work with you to improve harmony among these components of the self in order to increase positive and healthy functioning in your daily life. I work to assist you in identifying your fears, negative core beliefs and values, and how they have caused dysfunctional pat terns in your current personal, professional, and spiritual lives. Through treatment, I can help with modifying your unhealthy thoughts and coping skills. I can help you discover new mindfulness and body awareness techniques that will enhance your confidence, your physical, and emotional functioning. Using a strengths-based approach, I firmly believe that regardless of what obstacles you are facing, there is always hope and opportunity for change to occur. With my extensive training and experience with childhood development, I enjoy working with families with children, new parents (couples and singles), and pregnant/expecting women. I am able to assist families going through major life transitions such as divorce, remarriage and blended families, new babies or newly adopted children, coping with a miscarriage, and infertility issues. I am also qualified and competent at working with individuals, families, and children experiencing anxiety, depression, overall stress, job-related issues, life adjustment issues, trauma, domestic violence, parenting issues, and self-esteem issues. My experience working in community mental health and with survivors of domestic violence has helped me to be highly effective at quickly assessing a situation and creating an immediate plan of action for that day to begin the process of alleviating any stress or discomfort you are experiencing. Whether you are dealing with mental illness such as bipolar, or you are just in need of someone to talk to, I am here to be a fellow traveler with you as we process and tackle the issues you are facing! Please do not hesitate to take this opportunity to improve your life and attain overall happiness. You deserve it!
