Individuals, Many specialities.
I counsel individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Chapline is highly skilled at the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Clinical Hypnotherapy, Ego State therapy and psycho-education. She will use her vast repertoire of additional modalities based upon a particular client's need. I enjoy my work! I love the field of psychology because it is so vast. I care about helping people move toward psychological wellness and motivating and inspiring them to reach goals. I consider therapy to be a valuable component of the walk of one's inner journey toward self completion. Psycho-education permits understanding of the origin of problematic symptoms, and how an individual became well. This type of knowledge creates skills that are transferable across life events and time.

I am a private practicioner accepting most insurances as well as cash and credit cards.. I see adults, children, & adolescents for a variety of emotional and behavior issues. I utilize several modalities of treatment including Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, Play theapy, and Sandtray therapy. I mostly work with individuals but also work with their families. I work with all ages of patients who have lost a loved one recently or not so recently to work with them on the grief process. There are all ages of patients who are experiencing a mood disorder such as depression or bipolar disorder that I see to help them utilize skills to cope with and change their patterns of thoughts. Many ages of patients also experience anxiety that I assist in teaching them anxiety skills management. Many children and adolescents struggle with some sort of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and I work with them on strengthening their executive functioning skills like increasing attention and focus, decreasing impulsivity, etc. I also teach the parents skills to assist their child. Many of the children or adolescents I work with have an emotional or behavioral disorder. I am currently working on a play therapist certification. The above are just a few of the many issues I have worked with during the last 23 + years of experience. I have also worked with people who have eating disorders, relationship conflicts, job stress/issues, adults and children experiencing divorce issues, substance abuse, compulsive gambling, gender identity issues, selective mutism, sensory processing disorders, attachment issues, etc.

Relationship Off Track? I Can Help You Live Better!
How I work: First we will have an introductory conversation on the phone. I will gain preliminary understanding of the problem you need help with. If I will feel that I may not be the right fit, I will provide you with referrals for therapists who specialize in the issue you are seeking a solution for (i.e., pain management). We will also discuss fees. In our first session I will go over the inform consent and office policies with you and will collect data for the intake. I will become very involved with you and we will work as a team. I will ask you what your goals are and after a couple of sessions, I will discuss the treatment plan with you. You will be in a very safe and supportive environment. I will learn to know who you are and what your personality is and I will adapt the therapeutic process to meet your individual needs. We will discuss your progress as we go along and make changes if the need arises. We will also discuss those changes to ensure that we are on the right direction in your path for personal growth.

Couple and Individual Therapy
I welcome individuals and couples from traditional, non-traditional, heterosexual and lgbtq ifestyles who live in the Northern California Bay Area. My areas of specialization are EMDR for trauma resolution and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. I am Certified as an EMDR Therapist by EMDRIA ( the EMDR International Association) and Certified as an Emotionally l Focused Therapist by ICEEFT ( The International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy). My style reflects a synthesis of cognitive, body-centered (somatic), emotionally focused and psychodynamic approaches to couples, individual and group therapy. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: Many people who suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, symptoms of trauma or relationship struggles also grapple with negative core beliefs about themselves. Some of the common negative core beliefs include: I'm a bad person, I'll always get it wrong, I'm defective, It's my fault, I'll never feel safe, I'm helpless, I'm stuck and I don't have any choices. Those beliefs usually come from a time when we were profoundly overwhelmed by a frightening, chaotic or unpredictable situation. A type of therapy called EMDR which stands for ( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can be a way to turn around those beliefs and create a new adaptive way of seeing oneself that is grounded in a healthy adaptive adult view of reality. In addition to EMDR, I often incorporate body-centered ( somatic) therapy. Somatic therapy is a way to study how we form our habitual body-based patterns- some of which work very well and others that are not working so well in relation to ourselves and others. In the process, we can learn how to create new ways of organizing ourselves in a muscular-skeletal way that result in greater options and choices in how we live our lives. COUPLES and FAMILY THERAPY: One of my specializations is Emotionally Focused Therapy- an evidenced-based approach to helping couples and families tap into their emotions ( the good, the bad and the ugly) and create a solid foundation for deep, resilient, intimate emotional healing and connection based on trust and understanding.

Online Psychotherapy
I offer an alternative to traditional in-office therapy through secure, HIPAA compliant video sessions on doxy.me. My practice is rooted in accessibility, compassion, and integration, making therapy available to anyone seeking growth, healing, or clarity no matter where they are. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the complex emotional patterns that shape our lives. As an Integrative Therapist, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, and humanistic frameworks. This allows me to tailor each session to the unique personality, needs, and goals of the individual. Rather than adhering to a single model, I help clients uncover what truly works for them, whether it’s developing insight into the past, learning new coping skills, or cultivating emotional regulation in the present moment. My approach emphasizes authenticity and collaboration. I believe that therapy should be a safe and supportive partnership where you can explore your story without judgment. Many clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. Together, we work to transform those feelings into understanding and action. You will find that our sessions balance structure with flexibility, allowing space for both emotional depth and practical problem solving. Online therapy offers the utmost convenience, privacy, and comfort. Sessions can be scheduled at times that fit your lifestyle, removing the obstacles of travel, traffic, and scheduling conflicts. Many clients appreciate the ability to connect from their own home or private space, where they often feel more relaxed and open to self-reflection. For individuals who are apprehensive about visiting a therapist’s office, telehealth creates a sense of safety and ease that encourages engagement and progress. Confidentiality is central to my practice. doxy.me is fully encrypted, secure, and compliant with all federal privacy standards. You can trust that your personal information and session content remain completely private. Therapy is an investment in your well-being and your future. Whether you are seeking relief from stress or anxiety, working through depression or trauma, improving your relationships, or simply striving for greater emotional balance, I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where real change can occur. My goal is to help you develop resilience, insight, and tools that will continue to support you long after therapy ends. If you are ready to begin, reach out to schedule a session. Together, we can create a path toward healing, growth, and lasting change.

If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes!
Taking the first step...
I believe in taking a holistic approach to counseling. Since most issues are interrelated, positive change in one area begins a ripple effect of change in others. My training and over 25 years of clinical experience is diverse, addressing issues related to relationship problems, anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, grief and stress. In addition, I offer two women's groups and an individualized Anger Management Program. Since 1995, I have been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma. Courses taught include, Understanding Addictions, Stress Management, Chemical Dependency, Human Emotions and Advanced Counseling Skills. One of the most effective interventions I use is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, (EMDR). It is enormously successful in treating PTSD and is often used with complicated grief issues. EMDR came to Oklahoma in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing, on April 19, 1995. This tragedy resulted in widespread trauma and grief, throughout the state. A team of volunteer EMDR therapists immediately flew into Oklahoma City and worked tirelessly for several months, providing this therapy to victims, survivors and rescue workers. I was fortunate to have been in the group of 300 licensed therapists who were trained to carry on their work. As a result, I became certified in EMDR and have incorporated it into my therapy practice. It has allowed my clients to more effectively cope with and resolve a wide variety of issues and problems affecting their quality of life. EMDR continues to be one of the fastest, most valuable resources for individual healing. I am a Licensed Marital & Family Therapist, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor and a Certified EMDR Therapist. My practice utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy, showing the connection between thoughts, feelings and behavior. I also offer assertiveness and stress management training, in addition to chemical dependency counseling and chemical dependency interventions.

Understand yourself better, become more free and fulfilled
My practice is trauma-focused, psychodynamic and relational
As your therapist, first and foremost I will respect the courage of your decision to seek therapy and create a foundation of safety, acceptance, and collaboration. I strongly believe that symptom reduction (e.g., anxiety, panic, constant worrying, depression, high stress levels, complex PTSD), and an exploration of the root causes of your most distressing problems are both vital aspects of a helpful therapeutic experience. I foster a therapeutic relationship that honors my clients’ conscious minds as well as feelings, symptoms, and behaviors that they may find confusing and painful, but may be clues to presenting problems. I also consider my clients' current life situations holistically, collaborating with them to explore physical, nutritional, general life style, social support, and self-regulation issues to find areas of resilience as well as those that could be strengthened. Presently, I work with late teens and adults of all ages. I work with clients who struggle with symptoms which may be the aftermath of loss, abuse or other difficult experiences, or are simply perplexed with why they repeat distressing patterns which cause them pain. My clients may enter therapy to explore "why they have such difficulty regulating their emotions", or, "why they continue to pursue relationships that are ultimately painful", or, "why it's so hard to feel anything"; they may also enter therapy to receive assistance with specific issues such as life transitions, relationship difficulties, and work or academic problems. I also specialize in the impact of past and current interpersonal trauma or loss on parenting capacities, and assist my clients when these experiences interfere with being loving and supportive parents in the present. My work blends relational psychotherapeutic approaches, trauma-focused assessment and treatment, and psychoeducation for both clients and their families where appropriate. My trauma studies, which included EMDRIA-approved advanced EMDR training, as well as principles of Internal Family Systems and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, have solidified my longstanding belief that therapy must often go beyond talk and attend to messages from our physical selves that may provide clues to where we are most "stuck". While I have been trained in several modalities and my approach is eclectic, I will meet you where you are presently to address the problems that are most distressing to you.

Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. Therapy for Change in Changing Times
I have been successfully coaching and counseling people in my private practice since 1990. Typically, my clients are looking to overcome obstacles to their optimum happiness and fulfillment. Many clients are working through unfinished business from their past experience, while many are more recently blocked or stuck in self defeating habits or behaviors. Together, clients and I draw upon a variety of understandings and tools from Western social psychological knowledge and Eastern traditions and philosophies.

Specializing in EMDR, SE, IFS, CT, Couples, & Group
I maintain a general private practice with a specialty in the treatment of trauma with offices in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and in Montclair, New Jersey. Whether you have experienced a major traumatic event, suffer from from acute or chronic anxiety and/or depression or whether you are feeling frustrated or stuck in repetitive patterns in your work or personal life, effective psychotherapy can help bring about empowerment, growth, and positive, lasting change. I am an active participant in each treatment and will work relationally with you to address your concerns. I also specialize in the use of more body-based modalities such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and SE (Somatic Experiencing). I have found, and current research is validating, how essential a healthy mind/body connection is to facilitating any real and lasting shifts from old habituated patterns to new, more adaptive ones, and I have found these modalities particularly effective in this regard.

While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Mental Health Counselor/Therapist

My clinical practice in general involves the delivery of sophisticated, pragmatic, and highly focused services designed to evaluate and then resolve the psychological or coping difficulties that occur across a broad array of diagnoses and problem areas. I employ the best evidence based intervention approaches and in general the psychotherapeutic orientation is both humanistic and cognitive behavioral in nature. Most diagnosable mental health problems and the adjustment difficulties of everyday life are problems created predominantly by faulty learning and the poor coping strategies that people employ in their attempts to manage difficulties with their interpersonal and other life adjustments. The treatment orientation which I employ is designed to meet the unique needs of the individual case but in general it involves restructuring the faulty thinking and empowering the person with replacing the faulty thinking with more adaptive and rational strategies and the teaching of new skills. I also do life enhancement and performance coaching to enhance life stills of people in Australia, Canada, the United States, Great Britain, and South Africa. I work with high performance athletes and highly placed corporate executives to assist them in advancing their mastery of their emotional skills to help them to better perform in their sport, in the career path, and in their home lives as well. It is also the case that I coach everyday people to improve their wellness and fitness or to otherwise improve their everyday quality of life and relationships. Finally, in my forensic practice I am hired by attorneys in cases that range from criminal law involving sexual assault, to mental retardation, to insanity, all the way up to post conviction death cases. In family law I specialize in high conflict cases involving alienation or estrangement. In personal injury cases I work with the range all the way up to brain trauma cases. I have worked on war crimes and other torture cases. I have worked on cases involving workplace discrimination and harassment. The list is vast and includes more than two thousand cases.

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who works with adults, couples, adult families, and groups in my general private practice. I know that there are confusing and difficult periods in anyone's life when a person may find he or she needs support/help from someone other than their friends or family. At these times, it can be a strange process to seek such assistance from a virtual stranger. In an effort to help you with this process let me share my approach to my work. My experience as a therapist has made me come to trust that individuals, with the help of another, have the capacity to know themselves better than anyone else, to access their own answers and wisdom, and attend to their own wounds. My belief is that people can grow and heal no matter how intense their difficult experiences, defenses and hurts may be. I view myself as the skilled and committed partner in this internal journey of exploration and emotional resolution. Specialized Areas of Interest & Training * I understand and know the experience of Depression and can sit with a person's deep pain as he or she explores its components and begins to heal. * For the past eight years I have been on the emotional journey of caring for my mother, who is living with dementia. As a result, it is my strong wish and intention to support other families who are dealing with the Alzheimer's disease process with a loved one. Currently, I offer a weekly Support Group in my private practice setting for any individual who is helping and relating to a person who is living with any type of Dementia * I have extensive training and interest in helping people with Bereavement & Loss in their lives. Whether the grief is the result of a divorce, the loss of a job, or the death of a loved one, it can be very helpful to work with a compassionate and experienced therapist who can accompany you through this often lonely and isolating process.

Feeling overwhelmed or stuck, constantly doubting yourself, longing for closeness but feeling scared about really opening up to someone else, feeling that you're not where you want to be at this point in your life, falling into addictions to dull anxiety. . .If you feel this way, you are not alone: these are the issues that bring people to my office every day. As a therapist, I offer an accepting and inquisitive approach to help you clarify and sort out any confusion and pain you may be experiencing and to assist you in broadening self-understanding. I have experience working with a broad range of concerns including issues related to self esteem, trust, relationships, anxiety and depression, and addictions. As you begin to recognize that you are not alone, that yours is a common experience, you begin to feel more of a connection to the world, opening to a sense of aliveness and new possibilities for what your life can be.

We work with individuals and couples to address issues including trust, vulnerability (physical, emotional), sexuality & sexual identity, communication, and conflict. We often meet with couples who are looking to improve their relationship, enhance mutual understanding and compassion for each other, create a closer connection, heal after an infidelity, handle recurrent arguments and money conflicts, address sexuality (including divergent desires), or decide if they should stay together or part ways. There are many therapeutic approaches used when meeting with a couple. We like to evaluate what approaches to use based on your needs and style as a couple. There isn’t one “right approach” to doing therapy as there isn’t one way to live. We provide education on what we have found useful in relationships. We invite you to look at new ideas and possibilities for living. We encourage you to try new ways of behaving and communicating. We like to learn from you about what you really want in your relationship. We are very interested in what each partner has to say about what has led to their struggle or becoming stuck. We want to know what you have done to change your situation, what has worked and what has not worked for you. We are careful not to duplicate what hasn’t worked. Counselors avoid taking sides because it is counterproductive to long-term success. That said, if we feel one partner needs to make a change in a particular area, we will say so. We have spent years helping men and women from every imaginable background and we are capable of seeing things empathetically from both perspectives. We emphasize the importance of forming a connection with your partner. This means there is an implied understanding of values, a common frame of reference, a series of shared experience and a sense that you are both on the same page. These connections form the bonds that foster trust and promote intimacy. We all need help from time to time and it is a sign of strength and intelligence to know when to seek support. If I have a leaky faucet and the only tool I have is a hammer, just banging on my pipes is only going to make the problem worse. The pipes burst, my basement floods and the foundation cracks. Or I could just call the plumber and he gives me a new tool called a wrench, so next time I have a leak I can fix it myself. Throughout our lives, we improve our skills by taking “courses” and practicing what we learn. If we played sports, we were coached in the basics and practiced them until they became memorized. At work, we were shown how to perform tasks, then got better and better as we repeated the process. To learn cooking or grilling, we followed recipes or observed someone with known abilities, then added our personal touches. Being emotionally healthy is another skill, one that gets little or no attention until failure to do so results in trouble. In my experience, and according to research, the biggest factor in how well therapy works is the client-therapist relationship. That’s one reason you can expect me to be genuine, empathetic, positive, and affirming. Also, I don’t have a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. Instead, I will work with you to custom-fit a therapy experience based on your unique needs and expressed concerns.

Assessment and Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Hi! My name is Dr. William Brock and I am a psychologist in the San Diego area. Being a psychologist provides an incredible opportunity to work with people and help them make a difference in their lives. I have worked with many types of problems and I take great pleasure in helping people become more successful and productive. I provide individual assessment, cognitive behavioral therapy, individual and family therapy. My goal as a psychologist is to assist clients with identifying and solving their problems. My approach is supportive and geared to helping a client create a better life. A session usually involves informal discussion and study. Clients and I work together to learn and apply the principles of cognitive behavioral psychology. Clients typically share their progress, successes and problems since the previous session. They may review results of any homework, learn and practice new coping strategies, participate in some type of relaxation &/or positive visualization exercise, and receive a new homework assignment. Children will usually select a game or activity to play with the therapist while learning communication and coping skills.

By establishing an interpersonal relationship with the child, I hope to understand their world and use play as a way of resolving psychosocial difficulties and allow for growth and development.
