Many clients are working through unfinished business from their past experience, while many are more recently blocked or stuck in self defeating habits or behaviors. Together, clients and I draw upon a variety of understandings and tools from Western social psychological knowledge and Eastern traditions and philosophies.

Specializing in EMDR, SE, IFS, CT, Couples, & Group
I maintain a general private practice with a specialty in the treatment of trauma with offices in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and in Montclair, New Jersey. Whether you have experienced a major traumatic event, suffer from from acute or chronic anxiety and/or depression or whether you are feeling frustrated or stuck in repetitive patterns in your work or personal life, effective psychotherapy can help bring about empowerment, growth, and positive, lasting change. I am an active participant in each treatment and will work relationally with you to address your concerns. I also specialize in the use of more body-based modalities such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and SE (Somatic Experiencing). I have found, and current research is validating, how essential a healthy mind/body connection is to facilitating any real and lasting shifts from old habituated patterns to new, more adaptive ones, and I have found these modalities particularly effective in this regard.

I am a private practicioner accepting most insurances as well as cash and credit cards.. I see adults, children, & adolescents for a variety of emotional and behavior issues. I utilize several modalities of treatment including Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, Play theapy, and Sandtray therapy. I mostly work with individuals but also work with their families. I work with all ages of patients who have lost a loved one recently or not so recently to work with them on the grief process. There are all ages of patients who are experiencing a mood disorder such as depression or bipolar disorder that I see to help them utilize skills to cope with and change their patterns of thoughts. Many ages of patients also experience anxiety that I assist in teaching them anxiety skills management. Many children and adolescents struggle with some sort of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and I work with them on strengthening their executive functioning skills like increasing attention and focus, decreasing impulsivity, etc. I also teach the parents skills to assist their child. Many of the children or adolescents I work with have an emotional or behavioral disorder. I am currently working on a play therapist certification. The above are just a few of the many issues I have worked with during the last 23 + years of experience. I have also worked with people who have eating disorders, relationship conflicts, job stress/issues, adults and children experiencing divorce issues, substance abuse, compulsive gambling, gender identity issues, selective mutism, sensory processing disorders, attachment issues, etc.

Compassionate Care with Options for Treatment
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” Unknown. “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.” Anonymous Hi. I understand that when you're hurting, you need understanding and sensitivity. You might be struggling with a difficult psychological disorder or just need help untangling the complex web of life. Perhaps you are struggling with a difficult relationship, need to overcome a serious trauma, or want to surmount a weight or smoking problem through hypnosis. I am also certified to perform past life regression, which might afford you self enrichment or provide the key to understanding aspects of thoughts and feelings you have today. Therapy is not a “one size fits all” discipline and fitting treatment to my individual client's personality and needs is a hallmark of my practice. I am skilled in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing,), Hypnosis, Past Life Regression, Relationship Counseling, or regular talk therapy, and will apply whichever technique or techniques in our sessions that promise the greatest benefit to you. The following are some of the issues I work with: Depression, relationship issues, anxiety, chronic pain, divorce, gay/lesbian issues, grief, OCD, spirituality, trauma, dissociation, family and sexual problems. This is not an exhaustive list and I encourage you to write or call to discuss whatever has brought you to consider using my services.

Are You Feeling Down and Can't Stop Crying? Is Your
Relationship Off Track? I Can Help You Live Better!
How I work: First we will have an introductory conversation on the phone. I will gain preliminary understanding of the problem you need help with. If I will feel that I may not be the right fit, I will provide you with referrals for therapists who specialize in the issue you are seeking a solution for (i.e., pain management). We will also discuss fees. In our first session I will go over the inform consent and office policies with you and will collect data for the intake. I will become very involved with you and we will work as a team. I will ask you what your goals are and after a couple of sessions, I will discuss the treatment plan with you. You will be in a very safe and supportive environment. I will learn to know who you are and what your personality is and I will adapt the therapeutic process to meet your individual needs. We will discuss your progress as we go along and make changes if the need arises. We will also discuss those changes to ensure that we are on the right direction in your path for personal growth.

If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes!
Taking the first step...
I believe in taking a holistic approach to counseling. Since most issues are interrelated, positive change in one area begins a ripple effect of change in others. My training and over 25 years of clinical experience is diverse, addressing issues related to relationship problems, anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, grief and stress. In addition, I offer two women's groups and an individualized Anger Management Program. Since 1995, I have been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma. Courses taught include, Understanding Addictions, Stress Management, Chemical Dependency, Human Emotions and Advanced Counseling Skills. One of the most effective interventions I use is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, (EMDR). It is enormously successful in treating PTSD and is often used with complicated grief issues. EMDR came to Oklahoma in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing, on April 19, 1995. This tragedy resulted in widespread trauma and grief, throughout the state. A team of volunteer EMDR therapists immediately flew into Oklahoma City and worked tirelessly for several months, providing this therapy to victims, survivors and rescue workers. I was fortunate to have been in the group of 300 licensed therapists who were trained to carry on their work. As a result, I became certified in EMDR and have incorporated it into my therapy practice. It has allowed my clients to more effectively cope with and resolve a wide variety of issues and problems affecting their quality of life. EMDR continues to be one of the fastest, most valuable resources for individual healing. I am a Licensed Marital & Family Therapist, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor and a Certified EMDR Therapist. My practice utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy, showing the connection between thoughts, feelings and behavior. I also offer assertiveness and stress management training, in addition to chemical dependency counseling and chemical dependency interventions.

Understand yourself better, become more free and fulfilled
My practice is trauma-focused, psychodynamic and relational
As your therapist, first and foremost I will respect the courage of your decision to seek therapy and create a foundation of safety, acceptance, and collaboration. I strongly believe that symptom reduction (e.g., anxiety, panic, constant worrying, depression, high stress levels, complex PTSD), and an exploration of the root causes of your most distressing problems are both vital aspects of a helpful therapeutic experience. I foster a therapeutic relationship that honors my clients’ conscious minds as well as feelings, symptoms, and behaviors that they may find confusing and painful, but may be clues to presenting problems. I also consider my clients' current life situations holistically, collaborating with them to explore physical, nutritional, general life style, social support, and self-regulation issues to find areas of resilience as well as those that could be strengthened. Presently, I work with late teens and adults of all ages. I work with clients who struggle with symptoms which may be the aftermath of loss, abuse or other difficult experiences, or are simply perplexed with why they repeat distressing patterns which cause them pain. My clients may enter therapy to explore "why they have such difficulty regulating their emotions", or, "why they continue to pursue relationships that are ultimately painful", or, "why it's so hard to feel anything"; they may also enter therapy to receive assistance with specific issues such as life transitions, relationship difficulties, and work or academic problems. I also specialize in the impact of past and current interpersonal trauma or loss on parenting capacities, and assist my clients when these experiences interfere with being loving and supportive parents in the present. My work blends relational psychotherapeutic approaches, trauma-focused assessment and treatment, and psychoeducation for both clients and their families where appropriate. My trauma studies, which included EMDRIA-approved advanced EMDR training, as well as principles of Internal Family Systems and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, have solidified my longstanding belief that therapy must often go beyond talk and attend to messages from our physical selves that may provide clues to where we are most "stuck". While I have been trained in several modalities and my approach is eclectic, I will meet you where you are presently to address the problems that are most distressing to you.

Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. Couple and Individual Therapy
I welcome individuals and couples from traditional, non-traditional, heterosexual and lgbtq ifestyles who live in the Northern California Bay Area. My areas of specialization are EMDR for trauma resolution and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. I am Certified as an EMDR Therapist by EMDRIA ( the EMDR International Association) and Certified as an Emotionally l Focused Therapist by ICEEFT ( The International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy). My style reflects a synthesis of cognitive, body-centered (somatic), emotionally focused and psychodynamic approaches to couples, individual and group therapy. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: Many people who suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, symptoms of trauma or relationship struggles also grapple with negative core beliefs about themselves. Some of the common negative core beliefs include: I'm a bad person, I'll always get it wrong, I'm defective, It's my fault, I'll never feel safe, I'm helpless, I'm stuck and I don't have any choices. Those beliefs usually come from a time when we were profoundly overwhelmed by a frightening, chaotic or unpredictable situation. A type of therapy called EMDR which stands for ( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can be a way to turn around those beliefs and create a new adaptive way of seeing oneself that is grounded in a healthy adaptive adult view of reality. In addition to EMDR, I often incorporate body-centered ( somatic) therapy. Somatic therapy is a way to study how we form our habitual body-based patterns- some of which work very well and others that are not working so well in relation to ourselves and others. In the process, we can learn how to create new ways of organizing ourselves in a muscular-skeletal way that result in greater options and choices in how we live our lives. COUPLES and FAMILY THERAPY: One of my specializations is Emotionally Focused Therapy- an evidenced-based approach to helping couples and families tap into their emotions ( the good, the bad and the ugly) and create a solid foundation for deep, resilient, intimate emotional healing and connection based on trust and understanding.

When Life Gives You Lemons ...
Lemon-Aid Counseling
When life gives you lemons ... what do you do? We don't always choose our life circumstances, but we CAN choose what to do with them. Relationships are complex. Even if you were not previously married and have no kids, each of you still brings a LOT of other people with you -- your parents, siblings, previous dates, friends, grandparents, sometimes even media stars -- that create a VERY crowded room! Add to that any individual stress, anxiety, medical condition, life transition, eating disorder, or addiction and it is a miracle you have gotten as far as you have intact! I will help you understand what is causing your relationship problems and what to do to fix them. You will learn Emotionally Intelligent Communication that can improve all your personal and work relationships. I sometimes conduct sessions that are not framed by the clock, working with individuals or couples until a natural stopping point. This flexible scheduling allows for resolution and re-direction in a more time-friendly manner. I help couples learn to value and appreciate the differences that have been driving them apart, and to regain the loving feelings that brought them together. I help those with a medical condition deal with the anger, depression, frustration, and other feelings that are associated with illness, and I also provide a safe place for their family members or significant others to deal with their own feelings and concerns. Whatever sadness, despair or challenge you face, it is my honor to help you come to terms with your issues and make life-affirming choices to bring you more joy and contentment, transforming life's lemons into something sweet.

I offer face-to-face sessions for individual adults and adolescents at my comfortable and quiet consultation room in Bexleyheath, DA7. Our initial meeting will be an opportunity for us to determine if we will be happy to work with one another. If we do agree to continue, I offer two types of sessions. Sessions last 50 minutes. In event of you cancelling I offer opportunity to reschedule within the same working week if possible; in rare instance that I cancel a session and we cannot reschedule there is no charge to you. Art therapy in Orange County - benefits children, families, teens and adults when just words don't work. Absolutely no art experience or ability is needed. Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art supplies, images and the creative process as additional tools to express thoughts & feelings and to resolve conflicts and confusions. You and I will work together to create goals that focus on your specific needs. Needs often addressed include reducing behavior problems, fears & anxiety, overcoming large and small traumas, improving social skills & self awareness, and lowering stress. In my experience, and according to research, the biggest factor in how well therapy works is the client-therapist relationship. That’s one reason you can expect me to be genuine, empathetic, positive, and affirming. Also, I don’t have a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. Instead, I will work with you to custom-fit a therapy experience based on your unique needs and expressed concerns.

Work, Relationships and Family Life Can Be Challenging
Active, Creative, Time-Sensitive Psychotherapy Can Help!
Life can be challenging! Are you are longing to feel more connected to your partner, feeling overwhelmed by work, trying to do it all and have no time for yourself? Whether relationship, work or family challenges are troubling you, I can help. Over the years I have developed my own unique style of psychotherapy which is Active, Creative and Time-sensitive. It is active, since I take an "Active" stance and help you figure out what is wrong and how to remedy the problems that are troubling you. The solutions will be derived using both your own and my "Creative" lens which will give you a new perspective on your life. My therapeutic approach is "Time-sensitive." This means that I will work with you to complete therapy as quickly as possible. I tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs. Drawing from a wide range of expertise & experience, we will collaboratively develop the best therapeutic plan for you. I involve clients actively in the process. Time-sensitive therapy is as brief as possible, but the therapeutic relationship lasts for a lifetime. Depending on the issues addressed, some clients may be in therapy for a few months while others may come for a few years. After completing a segment of therapy, over the years, clients often return for a tune up or to consult about a new issue or life challenge. Each time a client returns, therapy tends to be briefer.

I created Hope & Healing For Life PLLC as a place where individuals and families could come to find hope in their ability to heal from current struggles. Having worked for agencies for the last several years, I felt that it was time to create an environment that operates on the principles of true client centered care. It is important to me to have an atmosphere where people can feel comfortable, and empowered in the healing process, while at the same time developing goals, and strategies for successful treatment. I can show you, your family, or your organization why this partnership will work, depending on your specific needs and circumstances.

If You're Not Happy with Your Romantic
Situation...You Have the Power to Change It!
I truly believe that dating & relationships are all about you! And that's great news, because it means if you're not happy with your situation...YOU have the power to change it! Start taking action toward the relationship of your dreams! It’s all about your choices, your actions, your thoughts and feelings. Energy is contagious, and like attracts like. What kind of energy are you radiating? As your coach I will help you decide EXACTLY what you want and need in a relationship. That means helping you identify your past patterns (trust me you have them) and creating a set of personal rules to guide you through picking a better partner next time. Most importantly I'll help you feel great about yourself and inspire positive energy. Self-confidence is incredibly attractive! And if you're currently in a relationship, I can help you make it the best it can possibly be! I'll even help you decide if it's the right one for you or not. So many people stay in the wrong relationship because they think it's the best they'll get. Or because they're afraid to admit they're not happy. If that's what's going on with you I'll listen closely and together we'll figure out what's best for you! In addition to my training, I have twenty years of personal dating experience and I'm now blessed to enjoy a completely healthy, incredibly happy true partnership with a wonderful man who's the love of my life. I want to help you find the same romantic bliss!

Do you find yourself repeatedly drawn into the same frustrating emotional patterns and relationships despite your best intentions and efforts to change? Perhaps an approach that addresses the underlying meaning of these seemingly irrational behaviors is called for. I believe that honesty about our desires, motives, and feelings is the first step in the process of growth and change. The courage to honestly face previously disowned experiences, while ultimately freeing, is not easily achieved alone, apart from a trusting relationship. It is my privilege to create a safe context for you to examine your life in all its complexity. I am convinced that when shameful and painful experiences can be brought to light, understood and fleshed out, troubling symptoms tend to subside and relationships improve. Most importantly, it often becomes easier to feel a greater sense of agency, freedom, and purpose in life. I believe that therapy can give you the courage to shed unnecessarily rigid and self-defeating ways of being and relating to others and allow you to experience more contentment and hope in the future. I welcome the opportunity to partner with you in this process.
