Are You Feeling Down and Can't Stop Crying? Is Your
Relationship Off Track? I Can Help You Live Better!
How I work: First we will have an introductory conversation on the phone. I will gain preliminary understanding of the problem you need help with. If I will feel that I may not be the right fit, I will provide you with referrals for therapists who specialize in the issue you are seeking a solution for (i.e., pain management). We will also discuss fees. In our first session I will go over the inform consent and office policies with you and will collect data for the intake. I will become very involved with you and we will work as a team. I will ask you what your goals are and after a couple of sessions, I will discuss the treatment plan with you. You will be in a very safe and supportive environment. I will learn to know who you are and what your personality is and I will adapt the therapeutic process to meet your individual needs. We will discuss your progress as we go along and make changes if the need arises. We will also discuss those changes to ensure that we are on the right direction in your path for personal growth.

Online Psychotherapy
I offer an alternative to traditional in-office therapy through secure, HIPAA compliant video sessions on doxy.me. My practice is rooted in accessibility, compassion, and integration, making therapy available to anyone seeking growth, healing, or clarity no matter where they are. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the complex emotional patterns that shape our lives. As an Integrative Therapist, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, and humanistic frameworks. This allows me to tailor each session to the unique personality, needs, and goals of the individual. Rather than adhering to a single model, I help clients uncover what truly works for them, whether it’s developing insight into the past, learning new coping skills, or cultivating emotional regulation in the present moment. My approach emphasizes authenticity and collaboration. I believe that therapy should be a safe and supportive partnership where you can explore your story without judgment. Many clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. Together, we work to transform those feelings into understanding and action. You will find that our sessions balance structure with flexibility, allowing space for both emotional depth and practical problem solving. Online therapy offers the utmost convenience, privacy, and comfort. Sessions can be scheduled at times that fit your lifestyle, removing the obstacles of travel, traffic, and scheduling conflicts. Many clients appreciate the ability to connect from their own home or private space, where they often feel more relaxed and open to self-reflection. For individuals who are apprehensive about visiting a therapist’s office, telehealth creates a sense of safety and ease that encourages engagement and progress. Confidentiality is central to my practice. doxy.me is fully encrypted, secure, and compliant with all federal privacy standards. You can trust that your personal information and session content remain completely private. Therapy is an investment in your well-being and your future. Whether you are seeking relief from stress or anxiety, working through depression or trauma, improving your relationships, or simply striving for greater emotional balance, I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where real change can occur. My goal is to help you develop resilience, insight, and tools that will continue to support you long after therapy ends. If you are ready to begin, reach out to schedule a session. Together, we can create a path toward healing, growth, and lasting change.

Attachment Therapy for All Relationships
Neuorfeedback Solutions
You may have found this listing in a focused search for a healing solution for your traumatized, attachment challenged child or RAD diagnosed child within your family. You came to the right spot. I work with individuals, couples, and families utilizing attachment therapies designed to address underlying emotional difficulties associate with parent/child challenges in the first few years of life. I am experienced in couples attachment therapy and emotionally focused therapy approaches that are proven effective with adults. Also, I specifically specialize in treating children and adolescents who may have experienced trauma due to childhood abuse, neglect, abandonment, multiple foster family placements, and/or adoption. These children have already experienced harm and I take great care not to cause them to be re-traumatized by the clinical interventions that are designed to help them heal and grow into healthy individuals. My therapeutic approach is proven effective in reducing the behavioral symptoms that are often associated with a variety of disorders, including Complex Developmental Trauma, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and others. Additionally, my treatment approach addresses the underlying fears, misperceptions, and distress from which this population of children may suffer, and which contribute to their disturbing behavior and lack of healthy attachment relationships. Our latest therapeutic addition to our services is neurofeedback. Finally, a way to retrain the brain for a better life. Additionally, I use individual Emotionally Focused Family Therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Therapy with the child when trauma is interfering with the ability to think clearly, make decisions from a solid base, and cope emotionally to family interactions, life experiences, and challenges. You do not have to figure this out alone. There is hope. Your child can grow to express love more freely, and your family can live peacefully together.

Understand yourself better, become more free and fulfilled
My practice is trauma-focused, psychodynamic and relational
As your therapist, first and foremost I will respect the courage of your decision to seek therapy and create a foundation of safety, acceptance, and collaboration. I strongly believe that symptom reduction (e.g., anxiety, panic, constant worrying, depression, high stress levels, complex PTSD), and an exploration of the root causes of your most distressing problems are both vital aspects of a helpful therapeutic experience. I foster a therapeutic relationship that honors my clients’ conscious minds as well as feelings, symptoms, and behaviors that they may find confusing and painful, but may be clues to presenting problems. I also consider my clients' current life situations holistically, collaborating with them to explore physical, nutritional, general life style, social support, and self-regulation issues to find areas of resilience as well as those that could be strengthened. Presently, I work with late teens and adults of all ages. I work with clients who struggle with symptoms which may be the aftermath of loss, abuse or other difficult experiences, or are simply perplexed with why they repeat distressing patterns which cause them pain. My clients may enter therapy to explore "why they have such difficulty regulating their emotions", or, "why they continue to pursue relationships that are ultimately painful", or, "why it's so hard to feel anything"; they may also enter therapy to receive assistance with specific issues such as life transitions, relationship difficulties, and work or academic problems. I also specialize in the impact of past and current interpersonal trauma or loss on parenting capacities, and assist my clients when these experiences interfere with being loving and supportive parents in the present. My work blends relational psychotherapeutic approaches, trauma-focused assessment and treatment, and psychoeducation for both clients and their families where appropriate. My trauma studies, which included EMDRIA-approved advanced EMDR training, as well as principles of Internal Family Systems and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, have solidified my longstanding belief that therapy must often go beyond talk and attend to messages from our physical selves that may provide clues to where we are most "stuck". While I have been trained in several modalities and my approach is eclectic, I will meet you where you are presently to address the problems that are most distressing to you.

Couples Counseling and Individual Psychotherapy
I offer psychotherapy services that will help you explore whatever it is that might be holding you back from living a vital and robust life. I can help you get your life on a track that will truly put you in touch with “happiness.” When we’re speaking to someone who is truly listening to us in a non-judgmental way we end up saying things we didn’t know we were going to say. This is therapeutic. When we talk to someone whom we feel truly hears us and “gets” us, who accepts us as we are . . . we begin to feel freer to reveal to that person (and, by proxy, to ourselves) more of who we really are. This is therapeutic. The healing that occurs in this safe space of speaking and being heard and seen is rarely duplicated in the world outside the consulting room. If you’re fortunate enough to have someone who gives you this kind of attention, then you know how precious that is. I create a safe space for revealing and discovering who you are, how you’re being in the world, and, if necessary, why? I help you find in yourself your preferred mode of being, to create more effective ways of getting what you want out of your life, and I work with you to execute a plan to make that happen. My work with couples (of any sexual orientation) includes conflict reduction, improving communication, and creating more intimate and ultimately satisfying relationships. There is often a breakdown in communication that takes place within a couple and leads to conflict, tension and even the dissolution of the bonded relationship altogether. Luckily, couples therapy addresses what is being said between two people, what is being heard, and what to do when the couple needs help finding a way to re-connect and enjoy each other again. There are few things more painful than feeling like you’ve lost the love you once shared with someone. If you’re in this position, you know exactly what I mean. It’s heartbreaking to feel disconnected from your loved one. Maybe the passion is missing, your day to day routine has dulled the spontaneity you once had, or you just don’t seem to know how to talk to each other anymore. I love working with couples because I get to be part of a process that allows people to restore their ability to experience companionship in a healthy and satisfying way. I now offer Skype sessions for your convenience.

Counseling for Individuals, Children, and Adolescents
Are you looking to make a positive change in your life but not quite sure what or how? Are there transitions in your life and you are unsure of how to cope with them? Do you have children and adolescents that you are finding hard to relate to? Do you feel stressed because of everything life throws at you? As your clinician, I want to work together to find a solution to these challenges. As humans, we should not have to deal with daily stress as a part of our lives and we shouldn’t have to figure it out all on our own. I specialize in working with children and adolescents. These two age populations are crucial in human development. During these stages of life, children experience many confusing emotions that relate to self identity, peer relationships, family relationships, life transitions and school. Working with children that range from 2-18 years old has allowed me to develop my knowledge with this delicate population. Working with children and adolescents, I have been trained to use different theoretical approaches, that which includes systemic, cognitive behavioral, postmodern, and humanistic. I also have experience working in the school setting providing counseling support and working within special education. My role is to provide support not only to the child, but also to the parents and family.

Serving the wellness and relationship needs of diverse (including interracial, LGBT) couples civilian and military. I provide counseling and coaching at your home or online. I also provide speaking, training, and consulting services for business, school, and military events and conferences in the areas of cultural diversity, relationship health, parenting, and child wellness. Care for Couples: The majority of same-gender relationships are oftentimes fatally vulnerable to social stresses. We will explore the unexamined, private, moment-to-moment messages that may be impeding connection and intimacy. We will examine the individual (and those of the relationship) developed patterns that act as a kind of immunization against the social toxins of society's stereotypes, prejudices, and outright discrimination. Most importantly help identify and manage the stressors that are experienced physiologically and psychologically that often causes tension and emotional dysfunction in relationships leading to emptiness, distance, and sometimes a complete breakdown of the partnership. Care for Adolescent Males: Counseling may be helpful for teens that are uncomfortable with aspects of their sexuality or uncertain about how to express it. They may benefit from support and the opportunity to clarify their feelings. Therapy may also help the teen adjust to personal, family, and school-related issues or conflicts that emerge. Therapy directed specifically at changing homosexual orientation is not recommended and may be harmful for an unwilling teen. It may create more confusion and anxiety by reinforcing the negative thoughts and emotions with which the child is already struggling. I provide culturally sensitive assessments and treatment to decrease misdiagnosis when considering behavioral, mood, and sexuality disorders of G/L/B/T adolescents. Two of the goals of treatment will be to decrease number of youth experimenting with drugs and alcohol in order to cope with the many stressors as they navigate through the cultural, social, hetero-biased, political, and religious landscapes towards self-actualization. HIV Care I offer collaborative client care to help men living with HIV to help them to continue working, make healthy lifestyle choices, eliminate behaviors that are detrimental to both their physical and mental health, and to improve quality of life and need for increased medications and hospitalization. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Call your human resources department at work or your current health insurance provider to ask: • If you have mental health insurance benefits? • What do you have to pay? • How many sessions are you covered for in a 12 month period? • What is the amount your insurance will pay per counseling/therapy session? • Do you have to get approval from your primary care physician before your insurance will pay for your counseling sessions?

When working with families changing how members interact and communicate with each other is a fundamental key to encourage children to grow and reach their potential. Psychological evaluations can be needed for a variety of reasons and I have conducted them as part of an assessment for learning disabilities, medical/surgical requirements, and documentation of hardship letters. Consultations are done when an important, but brief, question arises and additional professional feedback is sought. Feel free to contact me by email if you have any questions.

I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. I find hypnosis a wonderful adjunct to quickly uncover, explore, and heal issues from past childhood trauma and experiences, present fears, and future anxieties. These issues or patterns, once helping us survive childhood, can now be making our lives unmanageable. Releasing past negative issues, whether through traditional therapy, or hypnosis, can help us reclaim our sense of trust and our ability for intimacy and sexuality without fear and guilt. I also specialize in counseling for sexual addictions. Many perceived sexual "addictions" are not really "addictions", but a result of our not being able to really connect with anybody. One way to tell if you are engaged in healthy or unhealthy sexual activity is how out of control you feel and are you causing others and yourself pain. I specialize in and successfully work with individuals and couples who want to explore and make changes in areas such as depression, anxiety, addiction and recovery, low self-esteem, relationships, and improving communication. Psychotherapy is a collaboration between the client and the therapist, working together to help you achieve your goals. Individual Psychotherapy My clients are usually adults who are intelligent, questioning, and insightful. They have many strengths and skills but find themselves either facing things they don't want (worry, depression, communication problems) or feeling blocked in achieving things they do want (career change, a good relationship, more self-confidence). We will work together to understand what is going on, how your present situation may have gotten to where it is now, and how you would like to see things evolve in the future. Patterns that were useful or even necessary in earlier parts of your life may be getting your way now. Sometimes the simple act of hearing yourself discuss your thoughts and concerns with a caring, nonjudgmental professional helps untangle some "emotional knots." People are capable of amazing changes and accomplishments; counseling can help you realize the best in yourself. An initial assessment appointment is about 90 minutes long; other counseling sessions after that are 45 to 50 minutes each. Weekly appointments are a good idea, at least in the beginning, in order to build a therapeutic relationship and get some momentum on dealing with your issues. How long a course of counseling lasts depends on a number of factors including how you perceive the problems, their severity and length of persistence, and even such outside elements as childcare or work schedules. A person often "knows" when a problem or situation has been resolved. Couples Counseling Couples who love and care about each other can sometimes experience difficulties. You might realize that it's harder to talk to your partner about your real feelings or concerns. You might notice that arguments (often about the same topics) are getting more intense or happening more frequently. You may be feeling that life events (work-related stress, a new baby, an illness,) have overwhelmed your relationship. You may have tried to work things out together on your own; but the changes don't seem to last very long, or you both end up more angry and frustrated than if you didn't try at all. You might be married, living together, dating, or deciding whether making a serious commitment is what you are looking for. This is where couples counseling can make a difference. With the guidance of a warm, genuine, and experienced counselor, you can develop improved communication skills, learn to set necessary boundaries, learn to clarify your needs & healthy ways to meet them, and practice expressing difficult thoughts and feelings in less explosive ways. You'll be reminded and encouraged about the strengths and positive qualities that brought the two of you together in the first place. The supportive counseling environment makes dealing with the problematic parts more tolerable. Couples counseling will also explore each person's understanding of the family they grew up in and how their familial experiences and expectations mesh with those of their partner. Very frequently, some significant issues are still quite alive in the current relationship; having a map of the "minefields" can help you work things out before they get out of control. An initial couples assessment is about 90 minutes long; subsequent sessions are one hour. The couple and counselor work together to plan the course of the treatment and the goals.

Effective Psychotherapy for Individuals
+ Partners (LGBTQ/ Open + Poly relationships welcome)
Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship. Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues win your relationship? I am very comfortable working with traditional, open/ poly and queer relationships. I can assist you and your partner(s) to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Clinical research shows that 90% of couples report significant improvement within 12-20 sessions of EFT. As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to end their battle with food and their bodies. Look at my video describing the popular teleclass series for how to empower yourself during the holidays especially when dealing with stressors around food and family: "Empower Don't Devour!' Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through past traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) This well researched method has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I also help my clients release the cellular and muscular memory of the trauma (which is where trauma is often stored) using somatic psychotherapy. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch. Finally I have found Depth Hypnosis to be a highly effective tool for helping my clients get out of stuck places and create the change they want.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Advanced Applications for Treatment of Mood and Anxiety
As a highly specialized Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I offer tailor-made and structured treatments for all forms of mood and anxiety disorders. If your symptoms include medical issues or chronic pain conditions, I can particularly be helpful as I am a trained medical psychologist and my practice is set up to help individuals who are coping with ongoing health conditions that have affected their quality of life. I use the most up-to-date clinical assessment tools to obtain specifics on ways a person's life has been affected by their illness or mood problems. We will then set out a short-term but intensive treatment program that will address the specifics of your needs. You can expect in-between-sessions therapy homework which leads to the improvement and the change you are looking for. Most patients report an incredible reduction in their pain or the status of their mood problems, and most patients find that they have gained significant improvement over the way they cope with their disease. An initial phone consult is free. Let us see if Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is for you.

Psychotherapy
My first question to any new client is, “How will you know when therapy is over?” This helps us both to define the goals of therapy. Together, we’ll focus on solutions to problems, and build on the strengths already there. I’ve been a therapist for children, adults, and families on the North Shore for ten years. My private practice is located in Glenview, Illinois and I work with families and individuals from the surrounding communities including Northbrook, Northfield, Deerfield, Glencoe, and Highland Park as well. I work with clients on issues including anxiety, trauma, divorce, separation, loss, depression, asperger’s, and other spectrum disorders. I provide a safe and relaxing environment that’s designed to help facilitate healing and change.

Effective Short Term Treatment
I have been in private practice for over 20 years working with children, adolescents as well as adults. I work from a cognitive-behavioral perspective and specialize in treating anxiety disorders. I also treat many other problem areas. Parenting issues are of great concern to many of my patients and that is a large part of my practice as well. More recently I have incorporated mindfulness concepts and have found that all of my patients who are interested in some of these ideas have benefited tremendously from this. I believe therapy is a collaborative process between the patient and the therapist. I may have the education and experience but it is the patient's life and we need to work together to find the solutions that work for each person.

All of us hit roadblocks in our lives. Often the chaos of life presents a situation or event that causes stress and anxiety. You may not know how to think about the problem let alone what to do about it. In addition, feeling unhappy, unfulfilled, or unmotivated, does not require an event to provoke pain. I'm talking about a need to be heard, listened to, …… understood. If you’re depressed or anxious, always angry or simply feeling unmotivated, we can work toward putting that puzzle inside you together. What we are seeking is change. Something that we can measure that helps you make more effective choices, or reduces your stress, or alters patterns in your behavior that have gotten in your way or simply helps you understand yourself and your life in a less complicated way. In addition to indvidual therapy, I work with many couples who have hit crossroads in their relationships and we try to find that common demominator of communication, that point where each partner will choose to listen to the other. Not an easy task, I relish the struggle and invite couples willing to take the leap.

We All Need Help Sometimes
I'm here to help you feel better, do better, and get better
Whether you're experiencing depression, anxiety, or stress, or if you have problems at work or at home, my sole aim is to help you make the changes you desire. Likewise, if you're in a relationship and you're not getting along, suffering from a betrayal, or simply having trouble finding a partner, I can help you to understand what's going on and overcome your relationship challenges. I take a two-prong approach. 1) To help you find out "how did I get here?" so you don't have to re-visit this place again. 2) To help you learn new ways of relating, coping, and expressing yourself that foster good relationships, friendships, and work connections. If people have been telling you that you need to get over it or to move on, or if you think so yourself, all that does is add pressure to an already difficult experience. I take an "addition" approach - learning new tools and thinking about things in new ways - rather than a "getting rid of" approach (which doesn't work anyway!) Thoughts like - What's wrong with me? Why can't I be like other people - doesn't mean that something is ACTUALLY wrong with you! It could be that you're doing your best to cope with certain challenges, some of which may have arisen in your past. For example, if you were betrayed in a prior relationship and you don't trust your current partner, you're using a former coping strategy in a new situation. I would help you find new ways to deal with the lack of trust and other feelings that could be causing you to act in ways that may have hurt your partner and the relationship. As another example, let's say that there was a lot of fighting in your family and you closed yourself off in your room. Now, any time there's the potential for conflict you withdraw. You're protecting yourself from either being hurt or hurting the other person. But this relationship might be different from your past ones (including your family), and withdrawing could actually be harmful. With either example, one goal for therapy would be find new ways to cope with these feelings, as well as to understand that nothing is "wrong" with you. It's just that your actions may be counter-productive. The other goal is Empowerment; sometimes you may choose to withdraw or be untrusting - but the key is to choose and not automatically react that way. Another way I see therapy is putting puzzle pieces together. You may have all of the pieces, but we need to put them together to figure out what motivates you and why you feel the way you do - as well as making the changes you desire.
