Are You Feeling Down and Can't Stop Crying? Is Your
Relationship Off Track? I Can Help You Live Better!
How I work: First we will have an introductory conversation on the phone. I will gain preliminary understanding of the problem you need help with. If I will feel that I may not be the right fit, I will provide you with referrals for therapists who specialize in the issue you are seeking a solution for (i.e., pain management). We will also discuss fees. In our first session I will go over the inform consent and office policies with you and will collect data for the intake. I will become very involved with you and we will work as a team. I will ask you what your goals are and after a couple of sessions, I will discuss the treatment plan with you. You will be in a very safe and supportive environment. I will learn to know who you are and what your personality is and I will adapt the therapeutic process to meet your individual needs. We will discuss your progress as we go along and make changes if the need arises. We will also discuss those changes to ensure that we are on the right direction in your path for personal growth.

Online Psychotherapy
I offer an alternative to traditional in-office therapy through secure, HIPAA compliant video sessions on doxy.me. My practice is rooted in accessibility, compassion, and integration, making therapy available to anyone seeking growth, healing, or clarity no matter where they are. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the complex emotional patterns that shape our lives. As an Integrative Therapist, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, and humanistic frameworks. This allows me to tailor each session to the unique personality, needs, and goals of the individual. Rather than adhering to a single model, I help clients uncover what truly works for them, whether it’s developing insight into the past, learning new coping skills, or cultivating emotional regulation in the present moment. My approach emphasizes authenticity and collaboration. I believe that therapy should be a safe and supportive partnership where you can explore your story without judgment. Many clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. Together, we work to transform those feelings into understanding and action. You will find that our sessions balance structure with flexibility, allowing space for both emotional depth and practical problem solving. Online therapy offers the utmost convenience, privacy, and comfort. Sessions can be scheduled at times that fit your lifestyle, removing the obstacles of travel, traffic, and scheduling conflicts. Many clients appreciate the ability to connect from their own home or private space, where they often feel more relaxed and open to self-reflection. For individuals who are apprehensive about visiting a therapist’s office, telehealth creates a sense of safety and ease that encourages engagement and progress. Confidentiality is central to my practice. doxy.me is fully encrypted, secure, and compliant with all federal privacy standards. You can trust that your personal information and session content remain completely private. Therapy is an investment in your well-being and your future. Whether you are seeking relief from stress or anxiety, working through depression or trauma, improving your relationships, or simply striving for greater emotional balance, I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where real change can occur. My goal is to help you develop resilience, insight, and tools that will continue to support you long after therapy ends. If you are ready to begin, reach out to schedule a session. Together, we can create a path toward healing, growth, and lasting change.

Do you feel that your life is out of control? Do you feel misunderstood? Are you worried about the way your child or teenager is behaving? Do you wish things could be different? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then you’re not alone. Many of us experience ups and downs, and perhaps you’re experiencing more downs than ups. So how do you change that? Sometimes all it takes is one or two changes to get your life moving in a more positive direction. Together, we can figure out the changes that you can comfortably make to achieve a more fulfilling relationship, or to have a better understanding of your child or teenager, so that you will experience a sense of calm and happiness in your everyday life. I can also meet with your child or teen, individually or in a group setting and help them with issues such as: anger management, bullying, depression, socialization skills, and drugs & alcohol abuse. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I have created a therapy system called OM Rhythm Therapy, using hand drums and small percussion instruments, which I use with children and adults. I also play the didgeridoo, an Australian Aborigine instrument which is one of the oldest instruments known. The didgeridoo induces a meditative state, as well as a form of vibrational healing.

I believe that psychotherapy is a place where, in a safe and confidential environment, you can talk about your most personal thoughts, feelings and life experiences. For a variety of reasons and at different ages, a person may find themselves suffering from painful feelings and exhibiting behaviors that negatively impact some or many aspects of their life and even their health. The psychotherapeutic process provides an opportunity to explore and understand these feelings and experiences through a clearer lens. Ultimately, this brings about positive changes in the way you see yourself, and choices you make. You can learn healthy coping mechanisms, improve communication and have more control over those things that undermine the success of your life, whether you are a teenager or a senior. Of course, there are a variety of reasons and stages of life that brings a person to therapy. Whatever it is, the work will lead to a relationship with yourself that is more loving, honest, constructive and nurturing. No matter what your age, that relationship is essential to living an authentic, healthy and rewarding life. Sometimes, life presents you with situations and problems that seem more than you can handle. Relationship difficulties, parenting problems or problems with parents or peers, health issues, loss, or a dissatisfaction with life can get expressed in a lack of energy, depression, sadness, or anger. Therapy can provide a healing pathway. Working with a qualified and experienced therapist can help you change your life. As difficult as it often is to take the first step, once you do, you are likely to find there can be great relief in reaching out and sharing your story.

Effective Psychotherapy for Individuals
+ Partners (LGBTQ/ Open + Poly relationships welcome)
Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship. Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues win your relationship? I am very comfortable working with traditional, open/ poly and queer relationships. I can assist you and your partner(s) to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Clinical research shows that 90% of couples report significant improvement within 12-20 sessions of EFT. As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to end their battle with food and their bodies. Look at my video describing the popular teleclass series for how to empower yourself during the holidays especially when dealing with stressors around food and family: "Empower Don't Devour!' Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through past traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) This well researched method has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I also help my clients release the cellular and muscular memory of the trauma (which is where trauma is often stored) using somatic psychotherapy. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch. Finally I have found Depth Hypnosis to be a highly effective tool for helping my clients get out of stuck places and create the change they want.

I do this by creating a safe and confidential space where we can explore and understand what's getting in the way. I work with adolescents, adults, and older adults, as well as group work and families. I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of people who have substance use and process addictions, depression, anxiety, as well as individuals that have experienced various forms of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, and war-related trauma. I utilize mindfulness and acceptance strategies in conjunction with cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral techniques. I am further certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and most enjoy working with clients to transform painful emotions and experiences into opportunities for healing and growth. Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. No Magic, Just Smart and Effective Help For Couples. Call me
“If you're needing help for your relationship, you want efficient and effective relief. I work to help you and your partner make sense out of confusing emotional dynamics and restore what you may have lost, joy and emotional closeness. At times it is necessary to deal with relationship fears of intimacy, including sexual intimacy, or to counteract feelings of resentment and anger. Learning good communications skills and how to fight fair are common outcomes for couples I counsel. If you or someone you know needs counseling for addiction, I provide you the tools to find better ways to take care of yourself so that you no longer need addictive behaviors to feel good. I am particularly interested in working with you if you struggle with relapse. Do not limit yourself. Executive or life coaching can be effective for you if you have the desire to do more and better in any part of your life: relationships, work performance, school, career advancement, physical health, or quality of lifestyle. ***Ask me why I recommend you not use your health insurance for counseling.***”

Psychotherapy
My first question to any new client is, “How will you know when therapy is over?” This helps us both to define the goals of therapy. Together, we’ll focus on solutions to problems, and build on the strengths already there. I’ve been a therapist for children, adults, and families on the North Shore for ten years. My private practice is located in Glenview, Illinois and I work with families and individuals from the surrounding communities including Northbrook, Northfield, Deerfield, Glencoe, and Highland Park as well. Feel understood fast
for Doubters, Pouters and Everyone in Between
Many of us are reluctant to try psychotherapy until we have exhausted every conceivable means of coping with our problems. The reasons that we don't seek professional help is complex. But whether it is fear of change, pessimism or defensiveness the root may be not wanting to face ourselves. Effective therapy is about facing things about ourselves that we either can't or don't want to see. There are obvious reasons for our lack of success in love, work and relationships, yet we remain blind to them. We know that angry communication never works but we continue to act as if it does. We withhold our true feelings not only from others but ourselves. We wander through our lives sometimes dazed, sometimes confused and often disconnected. We are hurting but act as if we are invulnerable. We can be pleasant, polite to a fault, generous and kind, but, alas, feel empty at the same time. Media about movies about aliens, robots and the undead reflect the alienation from self that is so prevalent in contemporary life. We look away from ourselves. We think that problems are outside of ourselves not within us. Learning to solve the problems within us is a major goal in psychotherapy. “You have every right to expect psychotherapy to be a force for personal growth. An effective therapist will help you see your problems clearly, so that solutions become emotionally apparent and therefore, accessible. Successful therapy will address your anger and anxiety. will diminish your shame, self-blame and self-doubt. It will help you to face yourself in ways that you have avoided or been unaware of. Effective therapy makes change inevitable. If therapy does not succeed in addressing of deep frustration with self and others, it's not working. Interventions are designed to raise self-esteem, self-respect, personal authority and improve interpersonal communication underlying feelings of loneliness and isolation. I have been a licensed therapist for over four decades. My expertise is based on a wealth of personal as well as professional experience. I am familiar with every phase of the life cycle and the particular issues that arise in each phase of your journey. I encourage you to take the first step toward self-exploration. I hope to aid you in your self-affirmation.

For Your Emotional and Relational Well-Being
My goal is to assist individuals, couples and families to develop emotional and relational well-being. This is done by learning new skills and having experiences so that new feelings and behaviors can be integrated into our life and relationships. When couples come in for marriage counseling they are usually in some sort of distress, frequently one or both not feeing their emotional needs are being met. When stressed people tend to either react or shut down, thus impeding communication. It is also hard for one to empathize and comfort the other when in a stress state. When each learns how to monitor their own stresses and has the tools for alleviating stress, relationships fair better. At this point it becomes easier to dialogue and learn about the other's needs and communicate ours. Indviduals seek counseling or coaching frequently because of stress in relationships. They may be experiencing anxiety or depression as a result. These relationships problems can be in family, at work or with friends. On occasion someone may seek psychotherapy for personal growth reasons, they want to feel they can understand themselves better and improve the relationship they have with themselves. Singles who are looking to find the right relationship also may seek counseling in order to help clarify who they are and who would be a good match for them. At other times people are suffering from trauma that has occurred from childhood wounds or more recent events. Until these wounds and traumas are healed and resolved they may impact the current functioning and wellbeing of the individual.

Quick, Easy, Be a Better You!!!
Kari has an intriguing approach that allows her to work with traditionally resistant clients. She uses a therapy that is especially suited for those who don't want to face their trauma or pain, don't have the words to express their trauma or pain, and don't want to even talk about the things in their life that are causing them trouble. This unique approach allows her clients to receive almost immediate relief of emotional pain and the suffering it causes, all without the use of any hypnosis. Often those who have received this type of therapy notice that along with it comes improved physical functioning, increased energy, improved relationships, more positive outlooks, and more motivation to achieve their goals. Are you ready to achieve YOUR goals?
