Holistic, integrative counseling and therapy approach addresses a full range of mental health and emotional issues, including ADHD, addictions, bipolar, anxiety, depression, PTSD, sleep difficulties, OCD, trauma, anger, grief, phobias, weight management, spiritual issues, relationship and marital issues, and more. Therapies include cognitive and psychodynamic approaches along with hypnosis, energy psychology, psychospiritual life coaching, and various mind-body stress release and stress management techniques. Sessions are available for children, adolescents, and adults. In home therapy and phone sessions are also available, as well as family and group therapy. Jed provides lectures, presentations, and workshops in the community and has worked with clients from South Florida and around the world. The holistic approach involves looking at the whole person and the whole system. Holistic therapies often seek to address the unconscious aspects of our mind. For example, hypnosis or energy psychology might be provided to help a person change habits like smoking or overeating or break free of old fears and phobias. Much of human life involves patterns that are happening unconsciously. Our subconscious programming guides our habits and reactions. Some of that programming may be dysfunctional and can sabotage our health and our ability to succeed toward our goals. The sessions offered are designed to assist you in addressing your concerns or reaching your goals, providing valuable resources to help you transform yourself and enhance your life. Counseling and other therapies are resources for you to use in making the commitment to improve your life and become the person you desire to be. You can inquire today to see if these services are suitable for you. Jed Shlackman, M.S. Ed., LMHC has been providing counseling in the Miami area since 1997. He is a graduate of the University of Miami with extensive experience and training in holistic healing and counseling approaches. Jed has worked in the past for mental health agencies and Miami-Dade Public Schools, seeing clients ranging from children and adolescents to adults with major mental health diagnoses and substance abuse difficulties. He then transitioned toward private practice to focus more on holistic healing and wellness approaches, promoting non-drug approaches to mental health and use of mind-body and energetic healing methods to address deeper levels of psychological issues.

Use Who You Are to Change How You Are
At Keene Murray Therapy, our approach to helping people is: Creative. Our work is shaped both by our immersion in creative arts and by our extensive background in a variety of psychological approaches. Respectful. We recognize that our clients are the only ones who can truly tell their story. Our function is to help clients identify and achieve their goals. Non-pathologizing. We believe that most problems are simply former solutions that no longer work. We help clients discover more adaptive means to meet life's challenges. Collaborative. We value the interpersonal quality of a therapeutic relationship that acknowledges the effects and influences that both client and therapist contribute. Depth-oriented. Experience has shown us that significant change has its roots in the multi-layered interconnectedness of a person's inner life. We accompany clients as they explore and learn to navigate this strange and exciting territory. Groups I work with include: Elders facing adjustment or end-of-life issues, couples (including gays/lesbians) with relationship difficulties, families experiencing inter-generational problems, victims of trauma (e.g., car accidents, violent attacks, natural disasters), children and teens needing psychological assessment of intellectual and/or emotional functioning. We offer phone and video-conference therapy sessions. Home/site visits are available in our neighborhood. We operate on a fee-for-service basis, accepting payments by cash or check. We provide receipts for insurance reimbursement purposes. Check with your insurance company about their out-of-network policy.

Effective Psychotherapy for Individuals
+ Partners (LGBTQ/ Open + Poly relationships welcome)
Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship. Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues win your relationship? I am very comfortable working with traditional, open/ poly and queer relationships. I can assist you and your partner(s) to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Clinical research shows that 90% of couples report significant improvement within 12-20 sessions of EFT. As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to end their battle with food and their bodies. Look at my video describing the popular teleclass series for how to empower yourself during the holidays especially when dealing with stressors around food and family: "Empower Don't Devour!' Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through past traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) This well researched method has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I also help my clients release the cellular and muscular memory of the trauma (which is where trauma is often stored) using somatic psychotherapy. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch. Finally I have found Depth Hypnosis to be a highly effective tool for helping my clients get out of stuck places and create the change they want.

Successful Treatment Requires a Good Fit
Between Patient and Clinician
One way describe therapy is that it is simply a conversation centered specifically your life. It is different from talking to family or friends because the historical complications that can accompany talking with family and friends are removed. Of course the image that people carry of therapy may be different from what I just described and may be more specific as well. For some the image of therapy is lying on a couch while their analyst makes occasional comments about their free associations. For others the therapist is very active with lots of comments, advice, and direction. Which is the correct method? Is something else the right way? My belief is that it depends on what is best for each patient because everyone is different and therefore has different needs. It’s true that I have a style and don’t just become some new therapist with each given session. Rather, what I am saying is that I take what each person’s experiences have been and where they come from into major consideration when working with each person. Consider that I don’t talk to my fifteen year old patients exactly the way I speak to my fifty year old patients. Imposing some pre-existing template onto a person neglects who they are. This is ineffective at best and injurious in its insensitivity at worst. As a result, meeting a therapist and talking to see if there is compatibility is what I recommend. This simply helps to establish whether a second conversation is a good idea.
