Effective Psychotherapy for Individuals
+ Partners (LGBTQ/ Open + Poly relationships welcome)
Although often difficult periods of change can give us opportunities to bring our lives more in alignment with what has true value and meaning for ourselves. I work with people during important transitions in their lives, for instance either starting or leaving a significant job or relationship. Communication, trust, intimacy and/ or sexual issues win your relationship? I am very comfortable working with traditional, open/ poly and queer relationships. I can assist you and your partner(s) to develop better communication and understanding around sensitive topics such as betrayal, intimacy and trust. I use an approach called EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Clinical research shows that 90% of couples report significant improvement within 12-20 sessions of EFT. As former Director of the Eating Disorders program at Community Institute of San Rafael, Marin, I work with people who obsess that if they only had the perfect weight their lives would work out. So many of us through over dieting and body hatred have lost our connection to ourselves. The body instead of being home for our psyche/ spirit becomes the battleground. I work with clients to end their battle with food and their bodies. Look at my video describing the popular teleclass series for how to empower yourself during the holidays especially when dealing with stressors around food and family: "Empower Don't Devour!' Do you feel emotionally stuck in the past? You might be suffering from trauma. I help my clients move through past traumatic experiences using EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) This well researched method has fast and effective results in working with people suffering from trauma. I also help my clients release the cellular and muscular memory of the trauma (which is where trauma is often stored) using somatic psychotherapy. This is an approach that taps into body awareness and mindfulness, which does not involve touch. Finally I have found Depth Hypnosis to be a highly effective tool for helping my clients get out of stuck places and create the change they want.

Successful Treatment Requires a Good Fit
Between Patient and Clinician
One way describe therapy is that it is simply a conversation centered specifically your life. It is different from talking to family or friends because the historical complications that can accompany talking with family and friends are removed. Of course the image that people carry of therapy may be different from what I just described and may be more specific as well. For some the image of therapy is lying on a couch while their analyst makes occasional comments about their free associations. For others the therapist is very active with lots of comments, advice, and direction. Which is the correct method? Is something else the right way? My belief is that it depends on what is best for each patient because everyone is different and therefore has different needs. It’s true that I have a style and don’t just become some new therapist with each given session. Rather, what I am saying is that I take what each person’s experiences have been and where they come from into major consideration when working with each person. Consider that I don’t talk to my fifteen year old patients exactly the way I speak to my fifty year old patients. Imposing some pre-existing template onto a person neglects who they are. This is ineffective at best and injurious in its insensitivity at worst. As a result, meeting a therapist and talking to see if there is compatibility is what I recommend. This simply helps to establish whether a second conversation is a good idea.

If you are reading this, you may very well be suffering and in need of support to live your life with less dread and more joy, less doubt and greater assurance, less anger and more self-control. If you are seeking services, you are already moving in the right direction by identifying the intent and developing the motivation needed to affect desired changes. A plethora of support services exist, and if you can receive the help you need from less-intensive and/or less-expensive sources, I encourage you to do so. Thankfully there are many self-help groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Gamblers Anonymous, as well as the National Alliance on Mental Illness that can offer great support on the road to recovery. In fact, if you retain my services, I would most likely suggest that you and your family increase and refine your connections to the community, church, and support groups that promote positive growth and well being. Change is not only possible, it is inevitable. Too often we live our lives as though we are permanently enslaved and predestined to be wasted in self-inflicted pain. Most people have moments of clarity in which they understand and appreciate the ability to willfully change the causes and conditions of their lives, but sadly they are caught up in circumstances and surrounded by people who are deeply invested in the familiarity of suffering. As such, opportunities for change are unfulfilled

Established Therapy Practice in Redondo Beach, California
Male & female therapists specializing in a wide variety of problems and treatment solutions. Day, evening, and weekend appointments available. Most major insurance accepted. Conveniently located in the S. Bay area of Los Angeles for over 30 years. Telephones answered 24/7. The learning and the healing that occurs during Psychotherapy and/or Counseling requires an active effort on the part of the client for the therapy to be successful. We strive to maintain the privacy of our clients so that you can feel comfortable sharing very personal matters and participating in the therapeutic process. Psychotherapy involves letting your therapist get to know you. In the course of doing so your therapist will begin to say things to you that help you develop a better self-awareness. We will help you realize skills you possess that you can utilize to help yourself and to get along better with others. We will often suggest ways that you can test ideas or practice new skills during the time between appointments. Psychotherapy has been shown to be very helpful. It can help lead to better relationships, improved communication, and a significant reduction of feelings of unhappiness or distress. It can help you resolve specific problems, or increase the range of choices in your life so that it can be more satisfying and productive. You should be aware that sometimes clients that start therapy feel worse before feeling better. Psychotherapy sometimes involves recalling unpleasant aspects of your past history. Our job is to help you understand and cope with all of this in a way that helps you to feel better and have a better future. Our staff is experienced in a wide range of therapeutic styles. Each of us has individual interests and skills. We work together as a team when different family members need different kinds of help. We are glad to coordinate our efforts with other professionals that might be helping you at the same time (such as your medical doctor). We try very hard to protect the privacy of our clients. California law protects the confidentiality of communications between a client and a mental health provider. Information about our clients is only released when we have your permission. We will always discuss with you, in advance, how we want to respond to requests from others about you.

Spiritual Therapy to Transform Your Inner
Demons to Inner Angels
Anger is just energy we generate when there is a difference between what we want and what we have. There are two types of anger, corrosive anger and authentic anger. Corrosive anger is just energy to change what is, to something worse. Corrosive anger is just unhealthy energy and the ultimate source of our lack of health, abundance and joy. Authentic anger is just energy to change what is, to something better. Authentic anger is just healthy energy and can produce a Garden of Eden on our planet. My publications and coaching are concerned with helping to make you aware of how you can choose to transform your corrosive energy into your authentic healing energy. You can then choose to live a better life, on your journey to the life of your dreams. Only hire me when you are ready to find out how to transform your corrosive energy into useful authentic healing energy to do what you really want to do at your highest levels. Only hire me when you are ready to be grateful and responsible for your own past and present results. One of the major premises of my publications and coaching is that we are totally responsible for our own results from our own decisions. We are the ones who decide what to accept, reject or modify from others. We are the ones who got ourselves to where we are and have made countless previous decisions, including how to respond to the decisions of others. My responsibility is to write and tell what I know has worked for me and some others in my experiences and what I believe so far. I only know what works best for me and some others. You will need to determine what works best for you, since everyone is unique. It is up to you, to find your own inner and outer team resources and your own choice of your spiritual growth path. When you need medical or other information, please go to the medical or other experts of your choice. I am not here for direction, I am just producing information for your consideration and choice. My emphasis is on spiritual health, wealth, and happiness. What happens on the physical level may be or may not be as rapid as what happens on the spiritual level.

Short Term Intensive Breakthrough Therapy
Ask your self "Am I stuck on this issue?" "Do I feel like I need some help just getting into it?" "I want to get thru it and I do not want to spend the rest of my life in the process!" If you want a safe enviornment.... You have come to the right place! Chuck does short term intensive for individuals, couples and young adults. Anger management and PTSD VETS He is also a Collaborative Law Neutral Divorce and Communications Coach. Short term and intensive sessions are available for a wide variety of people and situations.. I offer an eclectic approach, including methods and ideas from many theoretical schools. I work with individuals and couples and families to bring immediate change. Motivated clients are welcomed. My client focus are basically healthy people with a targeted problem or challenge to resolve. IMPROVE the moment This skill is used in moments of distress to help one relax. Imagery - Imagine relaxing scenes, things going well, or other things that please you. Meaning - Find some purpose or meaning in what you are feeling. Prayer - Either pray to whomever you worship, or, if not religious, chant a personal mantra. Relaxation - Relax your muscles, breathe deeply; use with self-soothing. One thing in the moment - Focus your entire attention on what you are doing right now. Keep yourself in the present. Vacation (brief) - Take a break from it all for a short period of time. Encouragement - Cheer lead yourself. Tell yourself you can make it through this(affirmations) Wise counsel on the situation (therapy) Amygdala Hijack The amygdala is the “fight or flight” and emotional memory part of the brain. Its job is to protect by comparing incoming data with emotional memories. An amygdala hijack occurs when we respond out of measure with the actual threat because it has triggered a much more significant emotional threat. For instance, the amygdala will react similarly to the threat of being eaten by a tiger (physical threat) and the threat of an ego attack (emotional threat) by bringing on the fight or flight reaction. When one experiences an amygdala hijack, the amygdala overtakes the neocortex (the thinking part of the brain) and there’s little or no ability to rely on intelligence or reasoning. The immediate result of a hijack is a decrease in working memory; adrenaline is released and will be present and effective for 18 minutes; hormones are released into the bloodstream and will take 3-4 hours to clear. During hijack, the number of perspectives accessible decreases; instead of 4 possible solutions, the observer will see 3 (excluding half of his original perspective), then 2 (creates an either/or choice), then only 1. When only 1 choice remains, the hijack is complete and the observer returns to a default, habitual behavior. A Model to Interrupt Amygdala Hijack Stop –Physically withdraw. If impossible, name the trigger or emotion (keeps the neocortex engaged and active and helps to prevent the amygdala from taking over). Oxygenate – Taking deep breaths with intention and purpose. Pay attention to breath. Keeps neocortex engaged.
