Couple and Individual Therapy
I welcome individuals and couples from traditional, non-traditional, heterosexual and lgbtq ifestyles who live in the Northern California Bay Area. My areas of specialization are EMDR for trauma resolution and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. I am Certified as an EMDR Therapist by EMDRIA ( the EMDR International Association) and Certified as an Emotionally l Focused Therapist by ICEEFT ( The International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy). My style reflects a synthesis of cognitive, body-centered (somatic), emotionally focused and psychodynamic approaches to couples, individual and group therapy. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: Many people who suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, symptoms of trauma or relationship struggles also grapple with negative core beliefs about themselves. Some of the common negative core beliefs include: I'm a bad person, I'll always get it wrong, I'm defective, It's my fault, I'll never feel safe, I'm helpless, I'm stuck and I don't have any choices. Those beliefs usually come from a time when we were profoundly overwhelmed by a frightening, chaotic or unpredictable situation. A type of therapy called EMDR which stands for ( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can be a way to turn around those beliefs and create a new adaptive way of seeing oneself that is grounded in a healthy adaptive adult view of reality. In addition to EMDR, I often incorporate body-centered ( somatic) therapy. Somatic therapy is a way to study how we form our habitual body-based patterns- some of which work very well and others that are not working so well in relation to ourselves and others. In the process, we can learn how to create new ways of organizing ourselves in a muscular-skeletal way that result in greater options and choices in how we live our lives. COUPLES and FAMILY THERAPY: One of my specializations is Emotionally Focused Therapy- an evidenced-based approach to helping couples and families tap into their emotions ( the good, the bad and the ugly) and create a solid foundation for deep, resilient, intimate emotional healing and connection based on trust and understanding.

Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. Specializing in EMDR, SE, IFS, CT, Couples, & Group
I maintain a general private practice with a specialty in the treatment of trauma with offices in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and in Montclair, New Jersey. Whether you have experienced a major traumatic event, suffer from from acute or chronic anxiety and/or depression or whether you are feeling frustrated or stuck in repetitive patterns in your work or personal life, effective psychotherapy can help bring about empowerment, growth, and positive, lasting change. I am an active participant in each treatment and will work relationally with you to address your concerns. I also specialize in the use of more body-based modalities such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and SE (Somatic Experiencing). I have found, and current research is validating, how essential a healthy mind/body connection is to facilitating any real and lasting shifts from old habituated patterns to new, more adaptive ones, and I have found these modalities particularly effective in this regard.

I help people develop goals and make changes in their lives. Adults and adolescents see me when they're having conflicts in their important family relationships, when they've experienced trauma, loss, or divorce, when they have posttraumatic symptoms from interpersonal trauma, when they are in psychological distress at work, home, or school, and when they are struggling with an eating disorder or severe anxiety. Understand yourself better, become more free and fulfilled
My practice is trauma-focused, psychodynamic and relational
As your therapist, first and foremost I will respect the courage of your decision to seek therapy and create a foundation of safety, acceptance, and collaboration. I strongly believe that symptom reduction (e.g., anxiety, panic, constant worrying, depression, high stress levels, complex PTSD), and an exploration of the root causes of your most distressing problems are both vital aspects of a helpful therapeutic experience. I foster a therapeutic relationship that honors my clients’ conscious minds as well as feelings, symptoms, and behaviors that they may find confusing and painful, but may be clues to presenting problems. I also consider my clients' current life situations holistically, collaborating with them to explore physical, nutritional, general life style, social support, and self-regulation issues to find areas of resilience as well as those that could be strengthened. Presently, I work with late teens and adults of all ages. I work with clients who struggle with symptoms which may be the aftermath of loss, abuse or other difficult experiences, or are simply perplexed with why they repeat distressing patterns which cause them pain. My clients may enter therapy to explore "why they have such difficulty regulating their emotions", or, "why they continue to pursue relationships that are ultimately painful", or, "why it's so hard to feel anything"; they may also enter therapy to receive assistance with specific issues such as life transitions, relationship difficulties, and work or academic problems. I also specialize in the impact of past and current interpersonal trauma or loss on parenting capacities, and assist my clients when these experiences interfere with being loving and supportive parents in the present. My work blends relational psychotherapeutic approaches, trauma-focused assessment and treatment, and psychoeducation for both clients and their families where appropriate. My trauma studies, which included EMDRIA-approved advanced EMDR training, as well as principles of Internal Family Systems and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, have solidified my longstanding belief that therapy must often go beyond talk and attend to messages from our physical selves that may provide clues to where we are most "stuck". While I have been trained in several modalities and my approach is eclectic, I will meet you where you are presently to address the problems that are most distressing to you.

I am a private practicioner accepting most insurances as well as cash and credit cards.. I see adults, children, & adolescents for a variety of emotional and behavior issues. I utilize several modalities of treatment including Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, Play theapy, and Sandtray therapy. I mostly work with individuals but also work with their families. I work with all ages of patients who have lost a loved one recently or not so recently to work with them on the grief process. There are all ages of patients who are experiencing a mood disorder such as depression or bipolar disorder that I see to help them utilize skills to cope with and change their patterns of thoughts. Many ages of patients also experience anxiety that I assist in teaching them anxiety skills management. Many children and adolescents struggle with some sort of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and I work with them on strengthening their executive functioning skills like increasing attention and focus, decreasing impulsivity, etc. I also teach the parents skills to assist their child. Many of the children or adolescents I work with have an emotional or behavioral disorder. I am currently working on a play therapist certification. The above are just a few of the many issues I have worked with during the last 23 + years of experience. I have also worked with people who have eating disorders, relationship conflicts, job stress/issues, adults and children experiencing divorce issues, substance abuse, compulsive gambling, gender identity issues, selective mutism, sensory processing disorders, attachment issues, etc.

Individuals, Many specialities.
I counsel individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Chapline is highly skilled at the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Clinical Hypnotherapy, Ego State therapy and psycho-education. She will use her vast repertoire of additional modalities based upon a particular client's need. I enjoy my work! I love the field of psychology because it is so vast. I care about helping people move toward psychological wellness and motivating and inspiring them to reach goals. I consider therapy to be a valuable component of the walk of one's inner journey toward self completion. Psycho-education permits understanding of the origin of problematic symptoms, and how an individual became well. This type of knowledge creates skills that are transferable across life events and time.

Hi, I'm Bushra. I work primarily with Queer and BI/POC folks to navigate feelings of anxiety, grief, loneliness, guilt or shame. I also work with clients who are struggling with vulnerability in relationships, wanting to learn from attachment and trauma experiences, or just looking for a space to process emotions. I specialize in working with anxiety and depression as well as religious and attached-based trauma stemming from familial history. I center my therapeutic approach beyond the boundaries of a Eurocentric lens. I know that when you reach out for support, your main focus is receiving the help that you need. That is why I strive to provide a space where you can feel understood without having to over-explain your identity, your culture, or other parts of what make you, you. I believe that therapy can be one of many ways to heal from and disrupt generational patterns of harm and violence and would be honored to join you in that process. If you’d like to learn more about how we can work together, please reach out to schedule a free 15 minute consultation.

Counseling and Psychotherapy for Children, Teens and Parents
Hello. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents, and their families who struggle with a variety of psychological, behavioral, academic, and relational problems. I also provide families with support for parenting, School and Special Education Consulting, Divorce, Co-Parenting and ADHD. I know that, as parents, you know your child(ren) better than anyone else, including pediatricians and clergy. You are the experts and from personal experience, I have learned that parents need to trust their instincts about their children. One of the goals in my work is to help children and teenagers realize that they can find solutions to their problems, enhance their relationships, build self-confidence, and develop a healthy sense of who they are. I have observed that when children and adolescents begin to feel good about themselves and when they realize they have options instead of limitations, their behavior mood, social, and academic functioning improve - they are happier and more resilient. I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral, Family Systems and eclectic interventions with adolescents, and with pre-adolescents, play therapy, to help younger clients identify, explore, and resolve their behavioral and emotional struggles. Providing child and adolescent therapy, I have over 15 years of clinical experience with all aspects of psychological, developmental, and behavioral difficulties, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, anger, trauma, PTSD, loss, defiance, impulse control problems, ADHD, learning issues, substance use, social thinking issues and the autistic spectrum. An important part of working with children and adolescents includes working with their parents (or guardians). I provide parents with support and constructive ideas that can strengthen their effectiveness, enhance bonding between each other, and restore their sense of hope and satisfaction in the family.

I offer a confidential, open-minded, non-judgmental style of working which respects the ideas, knowledge and wisdom which clients bring into therapy. I am an Integrative Psychotherapist which means that I am trained in, and can apply, different theoretical approaches. My psychotherapy practice is mainly based on humanistic and psychodynamic principles, although I also use ideas from the cognitive, behavioural and transpersonal therapies. The therapy I offer involves a 50-minute session at a regular time each week. The length of therapy is agreed on an individual basis, depending on the needs of the client and what they want from the therapy. I work with people age 18 and upwards. I hold an anti-discriminatory ethos and welcome requests for therapy regardless of factors such as ethnic origin, nationality, or sexual orientation. Booking an Appointment: If you would like to book an appointment, please contact me with a few sentences telling me about the problem or problems you would like help with. I will usually reply to your email within 24 hours. If I am available to work with you, I will usually offer you an appointment within the next 10 days. I will send you a short form to fill in with some basic information such as your contact details. What happens in a first session? In our first session of therapy there will be three areas of focus. Firstly, I will begin to explore with you your reasons for seeking therapy at this time. Secondly, I will ask you for some background information about yourself, for example your family, your health, and whether you have had counselling or therapy before. Thirdly, you will have the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have about the therapy and to express any hopes or fears about what the therapy will be like. The first session will be charged at my usual rate of £40, or £35 if you are eligible for a concessionary rate. Travel information: My consulting room is within walking distance of Oxford city centre, on St Clements. Change Your Life and Relationships Today!
What if we begin with the assumption that you were born to be happy, loved, prosperous and at peace? Sounds good... but then why do I hurt? Why do I struggle? Why are the inevitable changes so hard to accept? Therapy can often serve to identify the barriers to happiness and emotional well-being. Simply identifying the beliefs and practices at the center of any emotional turmoil can empower you to begin living a life that you deserve. I work with individuals and couples to get to the core of their issues so that they can start leading happier lives today! I specialize in helping clients to overcome depression, find relief from anxiety and stress, and rediscover joy in their lives and relationships. I offer free tests for depression and anxiety.

Are you feeling depressed, anxious, or just feel that life is not all you had hoped? Are your relationships unfulfilling? Having difficulty letting go of past hurts? Using sex or the internet to avoid others or painful emotions? Does it seem impossible to "get through" to your adolescent son or daughter, or even your spouse? Maybe it is time for a change. I am a warm, compassionate, and patient professional with over twelve years of experience as a therapist, professor, and supervisor who takes a holistic approach to helping clients understand and overcome their concerns. From the beginning of therapy, I will work with you to develop a relationship that feels authentic and safe so that your concerns, emotional wounds, and disappointments as well as joys, pleasures, and surprises can be meaningfully explored. Within the context of this relationship, we will work together to develop a fresh understanding of your internal world and your relationships with others. Though this process of insight is generally very helpful, I also make use of action-oriented strategies to help you make changes and learn new skills in order to meet your goals.

I appreciate your courage for the act of seeking counseling. You may be suffering from the effects of one or more of the following: stress, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, anger, life transition, divorce, suicide ideation, etc. Clients come to counseling for many different reasons. No two clients are the same. You may be considering counseling for the following reason: Your life as you know it has become unmanageable. You have exhausted the solutions that you have used in the past and are willing to seek out a new direction. The good news is that you are not alone in your circumstances. Many people struggle. And there are improvements that can be made to increase your quality of daily living. Increased well-being is always the goal. We achieve that by addressing the follow areas: identifying personal strengths growing in person self-compassion building healthy coping mechanisms Often, we will talk about your life values, discuss personal responsibility, being mindfulness of your thought patterns, defining meaning in life and discovering purpose. The result is typically that you will begin to notice that you are living your life past simply surviving. Living your life on a more profound level is also a goal. Sessions are in part based on the counseling method Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which falls into the category of "mindfulness", "awareness" and "acceptance" of cognitive thinking. My clients come from all walks of life and have varying life experiences. I welcome diversity of any kind and clients that come from any level of their own self-awareness and discovery. All we need is a place to begin and I honor that we all need to start somewhere.

Are you looking for expert help with depression, anxiety, panic attacks or fears, or dealing with a difficult person? When choosing a counselor, look for experience and practice focus. Treating Adults in a confidential (no insurance accepted) practice since 1996, I counsel adults with depression, anxiety, divorce recovery, having a narcissistic parent in your life, and other issues. This special focus on adults means that all of my ongoing training is tailored to suit your needs. I offer a safe, warm, nonjudgmental environment where you can relax and be heard. I am here to listen to you, but more importantly, to help you hear yourself. If you are the type of person who seeks only the best, only the highest quality, I am likely to be the therapist for you. I offer a full experience of active, solution focused help, with email support between sessions. I keep a small practice of patients and I give them the very best of care. Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, sleeplessness are all problems that can be helped. Learning to "take a stand" and communicate with others are important issues I address with you. Years of traveling Texas teaching Divorce Recovery classes has given me a unique knowledge and experience in the divorce process. Recovery and moving forward after divorce is extremely important, and I can help you set boundaries to accomplish this. I am one of only a few Certified Narcissist Abuse Recovery Specialists, trained by Dr. Karyl McBride. If you suspect one or both of your parents were narcissists, let's talk. Remember: your world changes when YOU change!
