Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. Specializing in EMDR, SE, IFS, CT, Couples, & Group
I maintain a general private practice with a specialty in the treatment of trauma with offices in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and in Montclair, New Jersey. Whether you have experienced a major traumatic event, suffer from from acute or chronic anxiety and/or depression or whether you are feeling frustrated or stuck in repetitive patterns in your work or personal life, effective psychotherapy can help bring about empowerment, growth, and positive, lasting change. I am an active participant in each treatment and will work relationally with you to address your concerns. I also specialize in the use of more body-based modalities such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and SE (Somatic Experiencing). I have found, and current research is validating, how essential a healthy mind/body connection is to facilitating any real and lasting shifts from old habituated patterns to new, more adaptive ones, and I have found these modalities particularly effective in this regard.

Successful Treatment Requires a Good Fit
Between Patient and Clinician
One way describe therapy is that it is simply a conversation centered specifically your life. It is different from talking to family or friends because the historical complications that can accompany talking with family and friends are removed. Of course the image that people carry of therapy may be different from what I just described and may be more specific as well. For some the image of therapy is lying on a couch while their analyst makes occasional comments about their free associations. For others the therapist is very active with lots of comments, advice, and direction. Which is the correct method? Is something else the right way? My belief is that it depends on what is best for each patient because everyone is different and therefore has different needs. It’s true that I have a style and don’t just become some new therapist with each given session. Rather, what I am saying is that I take what each person’s experiences have been and where they come from into major consideration when working with each person. Consider that I don’t talk to my fifteen year old patients exactly the way I speak to my fifty year old patients. Imposing some pre-existing template onto a person neglects who they are. This is ineffective at best and injurious in its insensitivity at worst. As a result, meeting a therapist and talking to see if there is compatibility is what I recommend. This simply helps to establish whether a second conversation is a good idea.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
Mood, and Relationship Difficulties
John Montopoli, LMFT, is a licensed psychotherapist and certified cognitive therapist specializing in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for the treatment of Anxiety Disorders located in the Noe Valley area of San Francisco. He also provides services as an associate of Palo Alto Therapy on Sherman Avenue in Palo Alto. John is dedicated to providing high-quality therapy to adults struggling with Social Anxiety Disorder (extreme shyness), Phobias, Health Anxiety, Panic Disorders, Generalized Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Depression. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical form of psychotherapy that has been shown in numerous research studies to be effective in treating anxiety and mood disorders. The therapist helps clients overcome symptoms and improve overall functioning by developing skills to cope with the thoughts and behaviors that maintain their problems. Compared to other forms of psychotherapy, CBT tends to be goal-oriented, present-focused, and collaborative. Typically, the client and therapist collaborate on forming specific goals to be addressed in the therapy. Given its focus on symptom reduction and goal achievement, it tends to be a shorter term form of psychotherapy.

Mindset: Inspiration for the process of therapy can be drawn from one of the best movie quotes of all time, “No! Try not! Do or Do Not, There is no try.” These are very powerful words telling people, especially to those in therapy that you must either willingly make your own necessary and sometimes critical changes in your life or you don’t. Therapy is about actively regaining control of your personal energy. Therapy is a collaborative approach to healing and well-being between a client and therapist. The therapist helps guide a person into making better life decisions, but the client must intuitively think of new ways of managing their life stressors that they are comfortable starting and maintaining. Clients not willing to make changes for themselves will continue to spin helplessly and hopelessly out of control. The mind is constantly changing; people in therapy must also learn to continually adjust and adapt to new situations while keeping a mindful-eye on their past. Education and Training: Dr. Hurley received his Master of Arts (MA) in General and Theoretical Psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) in Teaneck, New Jersey. He graduated with a Doctoral Degree (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology (FIPP) in Springfield, Missouri. At FIPP Dr. Hurley specialized in Marriage and Family Counseling. Other areas of training include neuro-psychology, anger management, bio-feedback, and pre-marital counseling. During his doctoral program he worked in a children’s psychiatric hospital. His internship was in community mental health, and he participated in a national study on Schizophrenia. Dr. Hurley’s post-doc residency was in substance abuse and rehabilitation. After his post-doc residency he spent two years in private practice in Libertyville, IL. Dr. Hurley then became the medical director for a Chicago based firm doing home health care delivering mental health therapy to Chicago’s south-side geriatric African-American population who live in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Dr. Hurley has taught undergraduate students at Robert Morris College in Aurora, IL and graduate students at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He finds teaching to be a change of pace and a way of leading a new generation of therapists into the Health Services Industry. His career path changed when he moved to Knoxville, TN. Dr. Hurley was the Clinical Director for Mental Health for Tennessee’s main intake prison facility. He worked with various criminals making sure that they received the help they needed and to minimize suicide attempts. Dr. Hurley’s stance on his education, training, and career is to always strive to learn more, to do more, and to be the best therapist possible. Therapeutic Stance: My approach to therapy with my clients is multi-faceted. There is no one therapy to fit all. I like to approach issues from a psycho-dynamic, family systems, CBT, Gestalt, existential, and medical stance. When dealing with mental health disorders you have to consider the mind as well as the body for the root of a problem. Therapy needs to be understandable by those who seek help and I have spent years refining my technique to help clients understand the issues they’re facing and the theories on how to resolve said issues. People feel more comfortable and understood if you can talk to them in the various places they are currently. I love to see individuals, couples, and groups in a calm, peaceful, and most importantly neutral environment. I love to make presentations to groups for psycho-educational purposes as well.

Dr. Cheri Is the Catalyst to BreakThrough
Your Inner Strengths and Untapped Resources!
BreakThrough Programs “Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” — Helen Keller My BreakThrough Programs are highly personalized, intensive three, four, or six-month processes designed for focused emotional growth and a newfound well-being. Over the years, I realized that people who work on their relationship in therapy only one hour per week, experience struggle and increased emotional pain, as well as a lengthy, drawn-out path to the healthy relationship they desire. Therefore, I developed signature programs that allow for natural breakthroughs, which effectively diffuse the past, while creating a dynamic pathway to the future. rather than simply treating symptoms with coping skills, the BreakThrough InnrSight™ method allows you to uncover and eliminate the causes of distress. The results are swift and long lasting. Together, beginning with our first discussion, we create your program based on the issues and concerns you want to address and the goals you want to achieve. The type of work we decide to do, as well as the number of months we decide to work together, will determine which program you choose for your unique situation. The program durations range from one to six months. After your BreakThrough Day, you will immediately experience the difference and begin living the life you desire. During the next few months, interactive, individualized coaching assists you to maintain and expand your new personal strengths within the demands of your environments, work relationships, and family. Everyone has the natural ability to heal from past trauma or grief, and move past anxieties, self-limiting beliefs, fears, and inner obstacles. You are whole and unique - not broken and you learn from everything you experience in life. Yet, sometimes we all feel stuck, or trapped by our own blind spots. With creative approaches, InnrSight™ processes, and passionate, in-depth facilitation, you can release blocked energy and dissolve obstacles to allow your emotional and physical healing. Most importantly, you will allow the natural integration into Who you really Are. Cheryl A. Rainey, MBA, LMFT, PhD

Over the past twelve years, I have had the opportunity to work with many diverse people from various cultures, ages ranges, and socio-economic systems. Many of the issues I assist with include Trauma/PTSD, sexual assault/molestation, stress/panic attacks, chronic pain, and relationship dynamics. I am also an expressive art therapist. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, psychodynamic, mindfulness, expressive arts and somatic psychotherapy to ensure you are able to calm anxiety, thrive after trauma, and rediscover your most precious assets. We will explore all of you including your bio-psycho-social-spiritual values, beliefs, and thought patterns. As a holistic psychotherapist, we co-create a system that looks at your diet, lifestyle choices, spiritual/religious beliefs, and the mind/body connection that accesses deeper aspects of yourself for whole body healing. I specialize in working with youth, adults, couples, and groups; many of whom consider themselves part of the LGBTQ community struggling with a variety of tribulations including life transitions, strong emotions of anxiety and/or anger, trauma, spirituality, and grief/bereavement. Everyone’s Story Starts Before Treatment
The Guest House Ocala provides the highest concierge style treatment services to those who suffer from trauma and underlying issues, causing self defeating behaviors, such as substance and process addictions, anxiety, and depression. The injuries we receive on our journey through life often go unwitnessed and unacknowledged. The hurt and the shock embedded by these painful memories instill a sense of disconnection from our bodies and impair our ability to process our true feelings. At The Guest House we believe that sharing your story with others creates an environment of emotional intimacy and trust, a place of connection, that allow us to experience real forgiveness and reconciliation. We believe sharing the darkness in a sanctuary of love and compassion is the birthplace of transformation.

Counseling for Individuals, Couples and Families
We work with individuals, couples and families to help them find the most promising paths to achieve their goals. Our partnership focuses on your personal strengths, and we customize each session to meet your specific needs. Our Specialties Include: • Aging • Caregiver Stress • Family Relationships • Long Term Care Issues • Palliative & Hospice Care • Anxiety & Depression • Sexual Health & Intimacy • Grief & Loss • Self-Image • Spiritual Enhancement What can I expect in my first session? Your first appointment will be an initial evaluation. Counseling sessions will begin after your initial evaluation and can be scheduled weekly, depending on your needs. Supervision: Who do we supervise? • Registered Mental Health Counselor Interns • Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Interns How does supervision work? MHC Interns and MFT Interns usually receive 1 hour of clinical supervision weekly while providing direct clinical services to clients. Supervision would be directed toward core competencies. Clergy: Clergypersons, seminary students (or CPE interns/residents) and their families often face distinct challenges that necessitate special attention about their sense of calling, managing critical relationships and integrating new discoveries about themselves. Compared to the general public, clergypersons are more at risk for burnout, depression, and chronic illness. The perception that the clergyperson is "the problem solver" can be extremely distressing and harmful to the individual, families and congregation. I provide a respectful and safe environment in which matters of faith and personal challenges can be explored and resolved. Life Coaching: What is life coaching? Life coaching is a collaborative process where specific steps are identified to successfully achieve desired goals. While psychotherapy focuses on healing the past, coaching focuses on the present and is an active process for people who are committed and ready to take concrete steps towards their own success. What topics can be addressed in life coaching? • Health and wellness • Career change • Time management • Education • Social skills • Dating • Lifestyle changes • Family/adolescent communication • Spirituality
