If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes!
Taking the first step...
I believe in taking a holistic approach to counseling. Since most issues are interrelated, positive change in one area begins a ripple effect of change in others. My training and over 25 years of clinical experience is diverse, addressing issues related to relationship problems, anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, grief and stress. In addition, I offer two women's groups and an individualized Anger Management Program. Since 1995, I have been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma. Courses taught include, Understanding Addictions, Stress Management, Chemical Dependency, Human Emotions and Advanced Counseling Skills. One of the most effective interventions I use is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, (EMDR). It is enormously successful in treating PTSD and is often used with complicated grief issues. EMDR came to Oklahoma in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing, on April 19, 1995. This tragedy resulted in widespread trauma and grief, throughout the state. A team of volunteer EMDR therapists immediately flew into Oklahoma City and worked tirelessly for several months, providing this therapy to victims, survivors and rescue workers. I was fortunate to have been in the group of 300 licensed therapists who were trained to carry on their work. As a result, I became certified in EMDR and have incorporated it into my therapy practice. It has allowed my clients to more effectively cope with and resolve a wide variety of issues and problems affecting their quality of life. EMDR continues to be one of the fastest, most valuable resources for individual healing. I am a Licensed Marital & Family Therapist, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor and a Certified EMDR Therapist. My practice utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy, showing the connection between thoughts, feelings and behavior. I also offer assertiveness and stress management training, in addition to chemical dependency counseling and chemical dependency interventions.

Whether you have experienced a major traumatic event, suffer from from acute or chronic anxiety and/or depression or whether you are feeling frustrated or stuck in repetitive patterns in your work or personal life, effective psychotherapy can help bring about empowerment, growth, and positive, lasting change. I am an active participant in each treatment and will work relationally with you to address your concerns. At the foundation of my approach, I conceptualizes all individuals and their interactions with others (relationships) within the Systems framework. More simply, one cannot understand the dynamic of our struggles without exploring the familial, social, and cultural contexts. My work is based in Solution-Focused Therapy. This encourages dialogue to explore client's strengths, resources, and past successes. My collaborative approach fosters a sense of agency in clients, creating a co-constructed dialogue to explore and create realistic attainable therapeutic goals. This approach further emphasizes that clients best understand their unique circumstances. Therefore the role of therapist is to support a co-constructed dialogue around necessary changes in perceptions, thoughts, and behaviors. Lastly, I bring to the environment a compassionate and gentle stance, providing my clients with a warm and safe environment allowing more opportunity for clients to deeply explore their history and present struggles.

Each individual or couple is unique. For this reason my approach is eclectic and combines a family of origin approach with a humanism/existentialism. More importantly I like to investigate patterns that are repeated in our lives and how we can locate the payoffs for those patterns. In my opinion psychotherapy is a way to build trust with another individual, explore the reasons we have for our actions and discover whether these actions match the life we are living now. Once the client and I have a strong therapeutic alliance, we can find a way for the client to make positive changes while feeling supported. In addition I am certified in EMDR and use Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy to relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Stronger Families; Stronger Children
Work with a skilled, dedicated, experienced professional who can assist you in dealing with divorce, trauma, and life changes. Therapy focuses on developing relationships within the family through individual therapy for the child, parenting assistance, and family interventions. Life is complicated! Learning to navigate parenting issues, marital troubles, issues from our past, and integrating our world view into our lifestyle can be difficult--especially when we feel so disconnected from others. Counseling From A Christian Perspective Using the Bible in counseling is crucial for a Christian's growth. Learning from the timeless truths of the Bible with someone else can give a perspective and a power missing from other forms of therapy. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from unrighteousness. This type of therapy incorporates both evidenced based therapeutic interventions and Bible verses to facilitate change. 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-Breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. For parents, the only difference in the Christian therapy and typical play therapy is the interventions at home--Bible memory and reading stories from the Bible that touch on specific issues in the child's life. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Helping parents incorporate their world view into their parenting is the goal. Parenting Support Groups | Becoming A Better Parent College-Level Parenting Child Parent Relationship Training [Parenting Support Group] is an educational, supportive class that develops your skills as a therapeutic partner with your child. It teaches you in a supervised environment how to have a special play time with your child. Learn to have fun with your child again! Click here for free resources, blogs, and other content from our clinicians. Discover Freedom From Past Hurts Making Peace with Your Past is a support group for women that focuses on using scripture and group processes to make peace with difficult parts of our pasts. All families and lives are imperfect and God gives us clear help in dealing with imperfection [our own and others']. Two groups per year are scheduled--one in the Spring and one in the Fall. If you are interested in working out a treatment plan for individual or group work, please email Christy. Group space is limited and a first appointment is necessary to determine a treatment plan. For Mental Health Professionals Practicum Experience Practicum students can work side-by-side with Christy and her team of professionals. Learn what its like to be a private practitioner and discover if this is where your love is. Learn play therapy techniques and practice working within family systems to make a difference. Experiences may include co-therapy, group therapy, couples and family therapy, intakes, court appearances [observing] and opportunities to create a published blog. Practicum Students are Master's level students who are in their last semesters before graduating. They typically have all the training but little experience in the 'room'. Supervision Services Offered Christy has over 12 years of play therapy experience. She has worked in multiple areas--private practice, MHMR, and psychiatric residential treatment programs. She would love to help you 'hatch' into the therapist you were meant to be. LPC-interns can choose from two programs. One, Christy will hire you on a contract basis. The second program is one where you may meet with her on a weekly basis for an hourly fee. Both programs are designed to give broad experiences and training while providing state sanctioned supervision hours. Practicum training may also be available.

I offer psychoanalytic psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families and groups in my private practice in East London and Central and through Skype. After two sessions of consultation I can offer once to five times per week sessions. Normally it takes at least one to two years to get results. I offer individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults that experience emotional difficulties in order to understand the unconscious reasons behind and to restore the balance in the mind. The setting that I offer is a space where the person can express whatever comes to the mind and to establish a relationship with me that will help the growing process. With children I use the play technique where the child uses the play and drawings to expresses the emotions and I give back an understanding of the meaning. With adolescent and adult the words are the main medium of meaning and understanding how to further the development process. From one session to four sessions per week is the space where is possible to explore the inner reasons of any psychological and emotional difficulties.

EMDR work by changing feeling states of past memory
I offer a healing warm environment utilizing the most modern methods in treatment. EMDR utilized by a well trained professional can change the quality of your life. Also I provide EEG Neurofeedback for patients with learning problems and attention issues. I have 14 years experience in the field completing my graduate work in 1999 and I am professionally trained by the Northern California Regional Coordinator for the EMDR International Association and am now a licensed trained EMDR Psychotherapist. EMDR can restructure memories creating new positive pathways resulting in decreased anxiety, improved mood and better sleep. I addition I provide a super bill for individuals with PPO or POS insurance. EMDR is brief therapy and is very powerful to change negative memories linked to undiscovered childhood trauma which feed and leads to long term anxiety and depression removing the locked dysfunctional distortion within the mind. I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy approaches. Could EMDR help me? A growing body of evidence is showing that many psychological conditions, including depression, often start with a stressful or traumatic experience. We are finding that EMDR Therapy with a Certified EMDR therapist can help significantly with symptoms of PTSD, phobias, depression, anxiety, panic, early and complex adverse experiences in childhood, and much more. It also has a strong track record for performance enhancement in a wide variety of fields — school, work, business, sales, sports, the arts, and that Most Popular Fear of All Time: public speaking.

The Sky's the Limit!
Child, Adolescent & Family Counseling
Raising kids is one of the most important jobs in the world. Parenting can be a lot of fun and challenging at the same time. Kids are often faced with issues that are overwhelming, frustrating and at times even hopeless. Some of them do not respond in the most positive ways. Parents have difficulty understanding why their best efforts sometimes don’t stop their kids from making poor choices, being depressed or decreasing anxiety. Through counseling I attempt to assist parents with their child or adolescent in identifying issues, overcoming challenges, and bridging gaps between them and their child. Counseling can help children and teens develop problem-solving skills and also teach them the importance of seeking help. I can help children, teens and families cope with stress and a variety of emotional and behavioral issues. Many children and teens need help dealing with school stress, such as homework, test anxiety, bullying, or peer pressure. Others need assistance to discuss family related stress such as divorce, death or illness. With a little assistance “The Sky’s The Limit!” Kids of all ages enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of my office. I use a variety of techniques when working with children and adolescents to initially establish a trusting relationship. Some techniques I utilize are play therapy, art therapy, behavior modification, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), role-playing, modeling, feeling identification, choice therapy and anger management.
