Compassionate Therapy That Meets You Where You Are
Build resilience, meaning, and a grounded sense of self.
I’m a New York psychotherapist and licensed psychoanalyst offering in-person and virtual sessions for individuals and couples. My approach combines deep psychological training with a practical, real-world understanding of how people think, work, and relate. Clients often come to me when they want a therapist who can go beyond surface strategies and help make real sense of what’s happening in their lives. In our work together, you’ll have my full attention—along with compassion, directness when it’s helpful, and clear insight to support you throughout the process. I don’t rely on one-size-fits-all techniques. Instead, I work with the whole of who you are: your thoughts, emotions, history, relationships, and hopes for the future. With a PhD in Organizational Behavior and experience in business, academia, and clinical settings, I bring a blend of rigorous psychological understanding and grounded perspective. My aim is to help you better understand your patterns, navigate challenges with greater confidence, and move your life forward in ways that feel authentic and lasting. If this resonates with you, I welcome you to reach out.

Online Psychotherapy
I offer an alternative to traditional in-office therapy through secure, HIPAA compliant video sessions on doxy.me. My practice is rooted in accessibility, compassion, and integration, making therapy available to anyone seeking growth, healing, or clarity no matter where they are. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the complex emotional patterns that shape our lives. As an Integrative Therapist, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, and humanistic frameworks. This allows me to tailor each session to the unique personality, needs, and goals of the individual. Rather than adhering to a single model, I help clients uncover what truly works for them, whether it’s developing insight into the past, learning new coping skills, or cultivating emotional regulation in the present moment. My approach emphasizes authenticity and collaboration. I believe that therapy should be a safe and supportive partnership where you can explore your story without judgment. Many clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. Together, we work to transform those feelings into understanding and action. You will find that our sessions balance structure with flexibility, allowing space for both emotional depth and practical problem solving. Online therapy offers the utmost convenience, privacy, and comfort. Sessions can be scheduled at times that fit your lifestyle, removing the obstacles of travel, traffic, and scheduling conflicts. Many clients appreciate the ability to connect from their own home or private space, where they often feel more relaxed and open to self-reflection. For individuals who are apprehensive about visiting a therapist’s office, telehealth creates a sense of safety and ease that encourages engagement and progress. Confidentiality is central to my practice. doxy.me is fully encrypted, secure, and compliant with all federal privacy standards. You can trust that your personal information and session content remain completely private. Therapy is an investment in your well-being and your future. Whether you are seeking relief from stress or anxiety, working through depression or trauma, improving your relationships, or simply striving for greater emotional balance, I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where real change can occur. My goal is to help you develop resilience, insight, and tools that will continue to support you long after therapy ends. If you are ready to begin, reach out to schedule a session. Together, we can create a path toward healing, growth, and lasting change.

How I work: First we will have an introductory conversation on the phone. I will gain preliminary understanding of the problem you need help with. If I will feel that I may not be the right fit, I will provide you with referrals for therapists who specialize in the issue you are seeking a solution for (i.e., pain management). We will also discuss fees. In our first session I will go over the inform consent and office policies with you and will collect data for the intake. I will become very involved with you and we will work as a team. I will ask you what your goals are and after a couple of sessions, I will discuss the treatment plan with you. You will be in a very safe and supportive environment. I will learn to know who you are and what your personality is and I will adapt the therapeutic process to meet your individual needs. We will discuss your progress as we go along and make changes if the need arises. We will also discuss those changes to ensure that we are on the right direction in your path for personal growth.

I work with individuals, couples, and families utilizing attachment therapies designed to address underlying emotional difficulties associate with parent/child challenges in the first few years of life. I am experienced in couples attachment therapy and emotionally focused therapy approaches that are proven effective with adults. Also, I specifically specialize in treating children and adolescents who may have experienced trauma due to childhood abuse, neglect, abandonment, multiple foster family placements, and/or adoption. These children have already experienced harm and I take great care not to cause them to be re-traumatized by the clinical interventions that are designed to help them heal and grow into healthy individuals. My therapeutic approach is proven effective in reducing the behavioral symptoms that are often associated with a variety of disorders, including Complex Developmental Trauma, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, and others. Additionally, my treatment approach addresses the underlying fears, misperceptions, and distress from which this population of children may suffer, and which contribute to their disturbing behavior and lack of healthy attachment relationships. Our latest therapeutic addition to our services is neurofeedback. Finally, a way to retrain the brain for a better life. Additionally, I use individual Emotionally Focused Family Therapy and Trauma Focused Cognitive Therapy with the child when trauma is interfering with the ability to think clearly, make decisions from a solid base, and cope emotionally to family interactions, life experiences, and challenges. You do not have to figure this out alone. There is hope. Your child can grow to express love more freely, and your family can live peacefully together.

Marriage and Family Therapy
Resolve Problems and Enhance Your Relationships
I am a marriage and family therapist who actually specializes in marriage and families. I work with individuals, couples and families--children, young adults, adults and seniors--who want to resolve problems and enhance their relationships. Even in the best circumstances we all face the challenges that everyday living brings....work and school problems, parenting challenges, financial concerns, fidelity and trust and day-to-day stress. Working from a perspective that each person knows himself or herself best, we work as a team to uncover your strengths and use them to reach your goaIs. I have been in practice for over 30 years. Originally I worked with children and adolescents and found that soon after the children completed therapy, their parents would call regarding their relationship. Many called because they felt comfortable coming to me with their issues after seeing the changes in their children. After about 10 years I began seeing the teenage and young adult children of original couples with whom I worked. They, in turn, recommended their friends and associates. A large part of my practice now is the people between16 and 40. Still, many of my clients are couples who have issues with fidelity, feel angry or resentful, or have lost the "spark"and want to try to improve their relationship and save their marriage. Most want to do more than just"save it" and we work together to enhance their ability to empathize with each other and develop skills to interact with each other in more respectful and loving ways. My practice uses a variety of modalities including cognitive-behavioral, narrative, humanistic and psychodynamic as well as guided imagery, meditation, role play and other methods based on what works best with each particular client.

These issues or patterns, once helping us survive childhood, can now be making our lives unmanageable. Releasing past negative issues, whether through traditional therapy, or hypnosis, can help us reclaim our sense of trust and our ability for intimacy and sexuality without fear and guilt. I also specialize in counseling for sexual addictions. Many perceived sexual "addictions" are not really "addictions", but a result of our not being able to really connect with anybody. We All Need Help Sometimes
I'm here to help you feel better, do better, and get better
Whether you're experiencing depression, anxiety, or stress, or if you have problems at work or at home, my sole aim is to help you make the changes you desire. Likewise, if you're in a relationship and you're not getting along, suffering from a betrayal, or simply having trouble finding a partner, I can help you to understand what's going on and overcome your relationship challenges. I take a two-prong approach. 1) To help you find out "how did I get here?" so you don't have to re-visit this place again. 2) To help you learn new ways of relating, coping, and expressing yourself that foster good relationships, friendships, and work connections. If people have been telling you that you need to get over it or to move on, or if you think so yourself, all that does is add pressure to an already difficult experience. I take an "addition" approach - learning new tools and thinking about things in new ways - rather than a "getting rid of" approach (which doesn't work anyway!) Thoughts like - What's wrong with me? Why can't I be like other people - doesn't mean that something is ACTUALLY wrong with you! It could be that you're doing your best to cope with certain challenges, some of which may have arisen in your past. For example, if you were betrayed in a prior relationship and you don't trust your current partner, you're using a former coping strategy in a new situation. I would help you find new ways to deal with the lack of trust and other feelings that could be causing you to act in ways that may have hurt your partner and the relationship. As another example, let's say that there was a lot of fighting in your family and you closed yourself off in your room. Now, any time there's the potential for conflict you withdraw. You're protecting yourself from either being hurt or hurting the other person. But this relationship might be different from your past ones (including your family), and withdrawing could actually be harmful. With either example, one goal for therapy would be find new ways to cope with these feelings, as well as to understand that nothing is "wrong" with you. It's just that your actions may be counter-productive. The other goal is Empowerment; sometimes you may choose to withdraw or be untrusting - but the key is to choose and not automatically react that way. Another way I see therapy is putting puzzle pieces together. You may have all of the pieces, but we need to put them together to figure out what motivates you and why you feel the way you do - as well as making the changes you desire.

Stuck In Patterns That No Longer Serve You Well?
Why Aren't Things Working Out Like You Thought They Would?
If you can’t seem to make things work for you, and you want to talk to someone about how to change that, I can help. My job is to provide you with insight into how you get in your way of getting the things you want in life, so you can make changes that will serve you better than the same old same old way of doing things that keeps you stuck in patterns with undesirable outcomes. No doubt about it, change is hard. You’ve been who you are for a long time, and are used to navigating our difficult world in a particular way. The problem is, it just isn’t working. So it’s not surprising that you’re confused, conflicted, anxious or depressed. I have a flexible approach to working with people, since one size does not fit all. My twelve years of training and over a quarter century’s worth of experience working with people has paid off. I’ve learned to listen in a non-judgmental way, and to help you feel safe in revealing your fears, feelings and thoughts, all in your own time, at your own pace. There may be things you want to change about yourself, and other things you want to keep. You get to make all the decisions about who you are and want to be. I’m here to point out what might work better for you, but not to tell you what to do. There’s no magic that can turn things around instantly, but if you’re committed to the process you can make significant strides in a reasonable period of time. I invite you to come in for a no-obligation consultation to see if you feel comfortable talking with me about what in your life is not how you want it to be. If you choose not to continue with me, there's no charge for the consultation.

Therapy for the Whole Person: Body, Mind, Spirit, Culture
Opening Your Heart... To Yourself
Tired of Talk Therapy? Bored with Behaviorism? Sick of being Stuck? There are ways to end your discomfort. You can make friends with your pain, move through it and thrive, like the Phoenix rising from the ashes. With a wise and loving guide you can find your way through your life story and beyond it into health. You can release emotions that have been stuck in your body your whole life opening you to a peaceful place within, because you are already loved and forgiven. You can release your shame and befriend yourself. I would like to help. I've been a psychotherist for 40+ years; I'm skilled in many approaches, ancient and modern. I love what I do, and am told that I'm very good at it. Often, people are helped by me after other approaches failed, filled with pain, fear and sadness; even with histories of trauma. Freud said that a therapist cannot take her clients deeper than she herself has gone. I face my own issues, so as to be clear, compassionate and without judgement. This powerful work is grounded in reality... And it WORKS. Author of "Self-Care" Pub. Spring Hill Press

Invest in yourself
Seeking out psychotherapy is an investment in yourself so that you can reach your dreams and overcome emotional hurdles like depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, relationship problems, and addictions. I have experience helping hundreds of people jump over these types of hurdles and get more of what they want from life. I do this by creating a safe and confidential space where we can explore and understand what's getting in the way. I work with adolescents, adults, and older adults, as well as group work and families. I specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of people who have substance use and process addictions, depression, anxiety, as well as individuals that have experienced various forms of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse, and war-related trauma. I utilize mindfulness and acceptance strategies in conjunction with cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral techniques. I am further certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and most enjoy working with clients to transform painful emotions and experiences into opportunities for healing and growth. Do you feel that your life is out of control? Do you feel misunderstood? Are you worried about the way your child or teenager is behaving? Do you wish things could be different? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then you’re not alone. Many of us experience ups and downs, and perhaps you’re experiencing more downs than ups. So how do you change that? Sometimes all it takes is one or two changes to get your life moving in a more positive direction. Together, we can figure out the changes that you can comfortably make to achieve a more fulfilling relationship, or to have a better understanding of your child or teenager, so that you will experience a sense of calm and happiness in your everyday life. I can also meet with your child or teen, individually or in a group setting and help them with issues such as: anger management, bullying, depression, socialization skills, and drugs & alcohol abuse. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I have created a therapy system called OM Rhythm Therapy, using hand drums and small percussion instruments, which I use with children and adults. I also play the didgeridoo, an Australian Aborigine instrument which is one of the oldest instruments known. The didgeridoo induces a meditative state, as well as a form of vibrational healing.

...there is hope...there is help...
Life can be difficult and at times people may require the assistance of a professional counselor to aid them in resolving challenges in their lives. Truth and Grace Counseling, LLC, was established to provide an opportunity for individuals, couples, and families to receive therapy in a nonjudgmental environment from Karen M. Bridwell, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), who is dedicated to helping people more fully enjoy their life and purpose. Truth was chosen because there is a healing power that can be realized when the truth concerning a challenge is revealed and accepted, and Grace was chosen because Karen believes that conveying truth in a compassionate manner is important in therapy. There are varieties of reasons why people seek counseling, but no matter the motivation, Karen believes they want and need to be accepted right where they are. She approaches each individual's unique story from a nonjudgmental position, as she seeks to understand the client's perspective in an effort to help them overcome their challenges. She is a goal-oriented counselor who uses a combination of therapies with clients, selecting the techniques that work best with each individual as together she and the client decide, develop, and pursue agreed upon objectives. Developing a therapeutic relationship is important as she and the client work together to uncover the thoughts and behaviors that are counterproductive in the life of the person. Then Karen has the client put into practice the alternative thoughts and behaviors that make possible the positive changes that will enable them to more fully enjoy their life and purpose.

Survive an affair/ infidelity ...then thrive as a couple!
Develop the relationship you've always dreamed of having!
From my many years of experience as a psychotherapist, I know the quality of our relationships is central to our entire experience of life. If our primary relationship is not going well, it is hard for us to be truly happy so I am especially passionate about helping couples in crisis, when there has been some kind of betrayal. So many relationships that start out feeling wonderful and exciting end up in frustration and disappointment. In addition, life crises can stress a relationship to the brink. It saddens me to know that couples go through the intense pain of breaking up only to struggle in their next relationship. It doesn't need to be that way. I help couples learn skills that give them immediate relief from their most hurtful encounters and foster deep empathy, understanding and connection. In only a few coaching sessions with your partner, you will learn how to communicate in ways that: * Rekindle friendship and passion * Truly resolve long standing conflict and * Lead to individual growth and satisfaction. I see psychotherapy as helping people access their inner resources, deepen their self awareness, develop strategies for overcoming obstacles and break old habits, and learning coping skills to face the inevitable stresses of life. I am an empathetic, active listener who approaches my clients' concerns with deep respect, honesty, pragmatism, caring and sometimes, with humor. I am results oriented and ensure that my clients can transfer what they experience and learn in my sessions to their real life. I am humbled and honored by the trust my clients have shown me over the years as me I have accompanied them on their journey back to safety and and enriched personal relationships and to more fulfillment and satisfaction with life.

Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. Feel understood fast
for Doubters, Pouters and Everyone in Between
Many of us are reluctant to try psychotherapy until we have exhausted every conceivable means of coping with our problems. The reasons that we don't seek professional help is complex. But whether it is fear of change, pessimism or defensiveness the root may be not wanting to face ourselves. Effective therapy is about facing things about ourselves that we either can't or don't want to see. There are obvious reasons for our lack of success in love, work and relationships, yet we remain blind to them. We know that angry communication never works but we continue to act as if it does. We withhold our true feelings not only from others but ourselves. We wander through our lives sometimes dazed, sometimes confused and often disconnected. We are hurting but act as if we are invulnerable. We can be pleasant, polite to a fault, generous and kind, but, alas, feel empty at the same time. Media about movies about aliens, robots and the undead reflect the alienation from self that is so prevalent in contemporary life. We look away from ourselves. We think that problems are outside of ourselves not within us. Learning to solve the problems within us is a major goal in psychotherapy. “You have every right to expect psychotherapy to be a force for personal growth. An effective therapist will help you see your problems clearly, so that solutions become emotionally apparent and therefore, accessible. Successful therapy will address your anger and anxiety. will diminish your shame, self-blame and self-doubt. It will help you to face yourself in ways that you have avoided or been unaware of. Effective therapy makes change inevitable. If therapy does not succeed in addressing of deep frustration with self and others, it's not working. Interventions are designed to raise self-esteem, self-respect, personal authority and improve interpersonal communication underlying feelings of loneliness and isolation. I have been a licensed therapist for over four decades. My expertise is based on a wealth of personal as well as professional experience. I am familiar with every phase of the life cycle and the particular issues that arise in each phase of your journey. I encourage you to take the first step toward self-exploration. I hope to aid you in your self-affirmation.

Counseling for Children, Adolescents, Adults, and Families
Clients often pursue counseling because of specific issues or because life has become more stressful and difficult as their previously used coping skills begin to fail. Past issues, losses, traumatic events, and present day transitions factor in to create struggles and issues that need to be worked through successfully. I believe that in working together as a team to find new, more constructive coping skills, the client can move from just surviving to actually thriving in their day-to-day environments, finding contentment, peace, and joy in and from life once again. I employ play therapy in my work with children as young as three years of age, as well as the use of other psychoeducational and therapeutic activities with adolescents, adults and families to help them make the needed changes. I am also Board Certified as a Professional Christian Counselor and incorporate Grace-Based Biblical Counseling in my work with families.

Finally, Someone Who Understands And Has
Skills That Can Help You
I have a small private practice in Dallas, just off of the tollway and Trinity Mills. I deliberately keep it small so that I can truly devote myself to the clients that I have. I am selective about who I take as therapy patients and coaching clients. I only work with people who are really committed to the process of their work. You can go at your own pace and in your own direction when you work with me. However, I have found that clients who attend therapy regularly and who commit to doing between-session work are the onces who are most successful. In our initial meeting, we will get to know each other and see if this is the right type of therapy for you. You can assess whether you think I would be the right therapist for you, and I will tell you honestly whether I think I am the right one to help you. If it is a match, I will be delighted to be a part of your journey. The type of therapies that I'm specialized in doing are called Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy and Cogntive Behavioral Therapy. You can visit my Dallas REBT CBT Meetup Group, which is a low cost psycho-educational group that I run monthly, during which I talk about REBT and CBT topics. You can also visit my other group: The Dallas Club Fearless Meetup Group, which is another low cost monthly group. I am also always gathering names of people who are interested in participating in a psychotherapy group at my office. Psychotherapy groups focus on your specific psychological needs, whereas the meetup groups are focused on topics and are not therapy groups. **Please note: at this time, I don't accept insurance. I can provide you with an insurance receipt for you to file upon payment. Please check with your provider to see if you have benefits to include out of network reimbursement directly to you.
