Why Wait to Have the Life You Want?
REMOTE SESSIONS DURING CORONAVIRUS: PHONE OR ONLINE
OVERVIEW Together we look at your life to see what works, what doesn’t, and why. We’ll see who you are, the relationships you’re in, and what stops you from having the life you want. We’ll see how you act, think, feel, and relate to others today and how those have been affected by your life experiences. We’ll work to change things so your life does work for you. TRAUMA You may feel anxious, depressed, or alienated. Here you can feel safe, talk honestly about what happened and about how it still affects you, even when other people don't understand or can't stand to hear it any more. I help you understand why you’re reacting as you do, even when you may feel out of control or a little "crazy." You'll learn ways to work through the psychological and emotional impact of what happened so you can get your life back. If you or your family member is a victim of violent crime, you may be eligible for therapy at no cost to you. ADDICTIONS (Substances and Behaviors) You might have difficulty with alcohol or drugs, or you may need help evaluating if that’s true, how great the difficulty is, or what you can do about it. You may also be asking similar questions about sexual behaviors or compulsions, porn, gambling, Internet usage, spending, eating, cutting, or anything else you do that feels questionable or out of control. Some people feel like they are addicted to another person, what sometimes is referred to as "love addiction." GAY/LESBIAN/BISEXUAL ISSUES While I work with heterosexuals, I also work with many gay, bisexual, or lesbian people, both individually and in couples. If you’re in a process of self-discovery, you’ll be the one to decide what your sexual orientation and identity is. If you’re now coming out, together we can consider if, when, how, and with whom you decide to do it. If you’re clear and comfortable with your sexual orientation, I can give you safe place where you can be open about who you and how HIV has impacted your life or your relationships MIND/BODY The mind and body are functionally identical. What you think affects how you feel, and what you feel affects how think. I work at both levels, with people who are interested in doing that. For people who aren't interested in the this work, I am happy to stay strictly in a talk-therapy mode. YOU SET THE COURSE, AND I'LL HELP YOU GET THERE. Counseling for Dating, Engaged, and Married Couples
I am passionate about healthy marriages and thriving relationships, so I work primarily with dating, engaged, and married couples. I teach couples how to assertively ask for what they want and need, how to communicate effectively by allowing their partner to feel safe and heard, and how to resolve conflict in a way that respects, rather than wounds, one another. If you are facing challenging circumstances in your relationship, I believe these can be an opportunity to strengthen your connection with your partner and draw you closer together, instead of driving you apart. For dating and engaged couples, I am a certified facilitator for the PREPARE/ENRICH program and recommend couples considering marriage to complete this valuable instrument. We use your data to identify strengths and growth areas, and to explore opinions about core issues in marriage to find agreement and negotiate differences. I also work with adolescents, individual adults and families to assist with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, inappropriate anger, divorce recovery and parenting concerns. I offer day, evening, and weekend sessions, as well as a no obligation phone consultation to briefly discuss your situation and answer any questions you have as you evaluate options for counseling.

Connect with your Best Life and Relationships
Are you struggling to connect with your child? Do you have difficulty setting boundaries and getting results? PARENTING IS HARD. There are no books or guidelines to follow. Sometimes you just sit there and think, “Where did I go wrong?” or “How did we end up like this?” You want to be a support and help your child while also setting appropriate boundaries and providing a good example. I help parents connect with their children and bridge the gap in communication. Children and adolescents tend to feel misunderstood by adults, especially their parents. My specialty is assisting in creating that understanding relationship, while also allowing parents to maintain the appropriate boundaries necessary to allow their children to thrive.

I am a family therapist who works with individuals, couples, and families from a relational, resource-oriented and strength based perspective. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort, where conversations and alternate ways of being and experiencing life can lead towards new paths and possibilities. Many people seek therapy because of thoughts and feelings related to depression, anxiety, feeling stressed out or over whelmed, grief, life- limbo, relationship dissatisfaction, and the like. My goal is to assist and guide my clients through dialogue and discovery in order to move towards a more enriching and liberated self and life. My clients and I work together to help foster an understanding of themselves, the world in which they live, their belief system and their lives, through increasing awareness of self. This often leads to clients experimenting with new behaviors, new perspectives and ultimately making new and different life choices. Whether you’re facing challenges in your relationships, experiencing anxiety or depression, confronting difficult decisions, or feeling the pain of loss, I am experienced with all of these issues and can help you lighten your load. It is said that the most prevalent indicator for successful therapy is the match between the client and the therapist. Feel free to contact me to set up a free consultation to determine if that’s you and me.

When Life Gives You Lemons ...
Lemon-Aid Counseling
When life gives you lemons ... what do you do? We don't always choose our life circumstances, but we CAN choose what to do with them. Relationships are complex. Even if you were not previously married and have no kids, each of you still brings a LOT of other people with you -- your parents, siblings, previous dates, friends, grandparents, sometimes even media stars -- that create a VERY crowded room! Add to that any individual stress, anxiety, medical condition, life transition, eating disorder, or addiction and it is a miracle you have gotten as far as you have intact! I will help you understand what is causing your relationship problems and what to do to fix them. You will learn Emotionally Intelligent Communication that can improve all your personal and work relationships. I sometimes conduct sessions that are not framed by the clock, working with individuals or couples until a natural stopping point. This flexible scheduling allows for resolution and re-direction in a more time-friendly manner. I help couples learn to value and appreciate the differences that have been driving them apart, and to regain the loving feelings that brought them together. I help those with a medical condition deal with the anger, depression, frustration, and other feelings that are associated with illness, and I also provide a safe place for their family members or significant others to deal with their own feelings and concerns. Whatever sadness, despair or challenge you face, it is my honor to help you come to terms with your issues and make life-affirming choices to bring you more joy and contentment, transforming life's lemons into something sweet.

The CBT treatment approach allows significant improvement to occur much earlier than in traditional talk therapy. As a result, cognitive behavioral therapy can help you to end treatment sooner, teaching you to become your own best resource to solve problems. Overwhelming research suggests cognitive behavioral therapy is the most effective treatment for most disorders, with numerous studies supporting CBT treatment for depression and anxiety.

Clients come to me with a variety of needs that are best met through exploring and developing relevant insights and life skills, releasing painful emotions and memories, or tapping into their own deeper selves. Clients, from a wide variety of backgrounds are seen in individual, family or group counseling sessions based on their needs and preferences. Many clients have already been in therapy and come to me because they still have things to work on that they have been unsuccessful at achieving through traditional talk therapy. How people benefit from therapy depends on the reasons why they initially seek therapy. However, generally, a person can expect to know him/herself better, feel more confident and have more a greater sense of appreciation and self-acceptance. At the end of therapy, a client can expect to feel positive emotions and emotional freedom more often. In addition, a person will develop more stability, self-knowledge, and control over emotions such as sadness, anxiety, anger, grief, and worry. He/she is likely to be better able to achieve personal and relational goals; to problem solve difficult situations; to feel more satisfied with his\her life and relationships; to be less influenced by past traumas and/or struggles; to know his/her opinions and voice them; and to grow during life transitions and challenges. Children and adolescents will also behave in more age appropriate and adaptive ways, feel more confident about themselves and their relationships, have more positive emotions, manage difficult emotions more adaptively, communicate effectively, and be able to achieve their goals.

Transgender Expert
Gender Identity & Sexual Orientation Exploration
I have been a licensed marriage and family therapist in Los Angeles, CA for 24 years. My office is located in West Los Angeles and my office is comfortable, animal friendly and located near the 405 and 10 Freeways. I received my license in 1991 and my background is working with foster children. I started up several programs and found the work rewarding and difficult. Being a foster parent is a hard job because it was always the goal to reunify the child with their parents if at all possible. I started working with transgender people almost 20 years ago and have helped so many people transition to become themselves. I was an active member of the Los Angeles Gender Center for many years before going out on my own with a psychiatrist to start my own company called, Gender Wellness of Los Angeles that has been in practice for over 13 years. I have loved my work in the transgender community and am an active member of World Professional Association of Transgender Health. As an organization we were instrumental in getting Gender Identity Disorder removed from the DSM-IV and replaced it with Gender Dysphoria. It is no longer a mental disorder and is now considered a medical condition. As a member of this organization, I am active in working with policy and procedures for the transgender community and helping them get access to the best doctors, mental health providers and all other resources necessary for a happy and successful transition. My company is called Gender Wellness of Los Angeles and we are able to provide the necessary letters needed for hormones and sex confirming surgeries to the female to male and male to female transgender person. We provide individual, family and couples counseling as well as referrals to a psychiatrist for psychotropic medications if needed. Additionally, I work with the gay/lesbian population as well as anyone seeking therapy who wants to change behaviors that are no longer working for them in their lives. I use a direct approach and believe that the client and myself are a team working together to improve relationships to friends, family, co-workers and loved ones.
