Let's Work Together! I can help you learn new/improved ways to manage difficulties and move beyond disappointments, past and present. With increased self-esteem and self-worth, you will experience a sense of power, energy, motivation, and optimism. With more confidence, you can apply the skills you've learned and/ or strengthened, to any situation, no longer feeling scared or stuck. You may find that fears and anxieties have hindered you from moving forward, reaching your goals, and attaining what you really want. So Often, old, intrusive, negative thoughts/beliefs creep in to your personal and professional life. It doesn't have to be this way. You can now be in charge. I work collaberatively with my clients, and help you understand how your experiences in life have impacted: 1. Relationships; 2. The way you perceive yourself and others; 3. The meanings and interpretations that you make. With understanding comes the possiblity of change, alleviating personal struggles. I can help you reach your goals and have the confidence to make choices and decisions that are right for you. If you are a couple who keep repeating the same old patterns which end in unresolved conflicts, I can help you learn more productive ways of communicating and interacting with each other. The Benefits: Couples feel less vulnerable, the ability to express themselves, the ability to listen, without being defensive. Couples leave therapy with a more satisfying, intimate and empathic relationship. Humor and laughter can once again be enjoyed.

Couples and Families
Healthy Communication is the Key to Satisfying Relationships
Communication is often at the heart of relationship challenges, with many couples feeling as though they’re speaking entirely different languages. A simple conversation can unexpectedly spiral into a heated argument, confusing both partners about what went wrong. But some powerful tools and skills can help you truly hear and respond to each other in a healthy, supportive way. Learn to recognize your triggers, understand your partner’s, and approach each other with compassion. Reach out for an appointment to get your relationship back on track—together, we’ll build a foundation of mutual understanding and love. Our families shape how we connect with others, making it especially painful when adult children and their parents experience a rift. Estrangement can leave both sides feeling a deep sense of loss, as though even the most important conversations feel out of reach. Jeannette York is here to help bridge that gap. In therapy, you’ll find a safe, nurturing space to explore these complex issues, address past hurts, and work toward a renewed bond. Discover a path back to open, respectful, and authentic communication that honors both your needs and the relationship. Sibling relationships can be equally complex and fraught with challenges, especially in adulthood. Long-standing rivalries, unresolved issues, and differing life paths can create tension or distance. Through adult sibling therapy, Jeannette York helps siblings navigate these complexities, heal old wounds, and rebuild connections. By fostering empathy, improving communication skills, and addressing underlying issues, adult siblings can find a renewed sense of closeness and understanding. Take the first step toward a healthier, more fulfilling relationship with your family by reaching out today. .

Addiction is a chronic disease characterized by compulsive habit-seeking behaviors for a particular substance, thing, or activity. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines chronic diseases as medical conditions that last over a year or more and require continuous medical attention or limit daily activities and living, or both, such as diabetes and asthma. The two components of addiction include drug addiction, also referred to as a substance use disorder, and non-substance addiction, or a behavioral addiction such as gambling and sex addiction that does not involve drug use. Medically, drug and alcohol addiction is a chronic, relapsing brain disorder distinguished by compulsive drug-seeking with continued use despite harmful risk factors and long-lasting effects on the brain, leading to mental, medical, and social complications.

Therapeutic & Educational Consulting
Serving Adolescents and Young Adults with Unique Challenges
Dr. Romeyn is committed to helping families locate the most appropriate educational and therapeutic options for their children and young adults. Dr. Romeyn takes a holistic approach by obtaining a thorough picture of an adolescent, young adult, and family in order to match the individual’s needs and challenges as well as strengths and capacities to the most appropriate school or program. This approach starts with an in depth analysis of existing reports, in person interviews, and interviews with other professionals that have worked with the family. Once a thorough picture has been painted, Dr. Romeyn will work with the family to locate the most appropriate setting. Once the setting has been decided, Dr. Romeyn will assist with admissions and help to ensure a smooth transition. Dr. Romeyn is committed to a long-term partnership with her clients and families. When working with a family on residential planning and placement, Dr. Romeyn will stay involved for a period of one year. This involves assistance with transitional planning, regular contact with a school or program to keep current on her clients’ therapeutic and academic progress, and generally serving as a liaison between parents and program personnel when needed. If additional placements are suggested, Dr. Romeyn will assist with locating and the process of transitioning. In addition, Dr. Romeyn will frequently visit her clients as she travels throughout the year. Over the past year Dr. Romeyn has visited over 250 residential schools and programs including therapeutic and emotional growth schools, therapeutic wilderness programs, therapeutic group homes, drug and alcohol treatment programs, residential treatment centers, psychiatric facilities and therapeutic boarding schools. Dr. Romeyn has a thorough understanding of all aspects of the schools and programs to which she refers families. Aspects of programs include: training of therapists, theoretical framework, qualifications of program personnel, the quality of residential living, recreational and learning opportunities.

Rehearse for Your Life!
Compassionate Work on Relationships W/ Self & Others
My practice can be summed up with the words of e.e. cummings: We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit. I call my work REHEARSE FOR LIFE because in our safe confidential sessions we can practice those difficult conversations and confrontations with ourselves, our families, our bosses and our loved ones. We can look at the choices we have before us and see what are the consequences of acting out in those circumstances. I have had a great deal of success working with problems of ADDICTION and COMMUNICATION ANXIETY. A Registered Drama Therapist and Marriage and Family Therapist, Bradford began his work in Creative Arts therapy working for the renowned STOP GAP THEATRE COMPANY of Southern California (the leading provider of drama therapy in the country- doing over 1000 events a year). Bradford worked in battered women’s shelters (with the women and their children), facilitated at Hoag Hospital in the inpatient drug and alcohol rehab program, worked with terminally ill children at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, as well as foster care, juvenile hall and many other outreach programs for at risk kids and adults. He does a program at the VA working with the Vets in what he lovingly refers as "Karaoke Therapy", as well as ongoing seminars at American Academy of Dramatic Arts, AFI, and other schools and organizations. Call me. Let's talk about how to move you forward into your light.

I feel that every individual is unique; therefore every therapeutic relationship is unique. For therapy to be effective, it is essential that you find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable and understood. The following is a brief introduction to my philosophy and practice to help you decide if I am a good match for your needs. What I value most about therapy could be described with these concepts: Authenticity. Empathy. Mindfulness. I believe that we as humans are very skilled at denying feelings that are scary or difficult. Problems occur when these repressed or denied feelings are projected out onto others or into destructive patterns of behavior and negative thought processes. I believe in the power of insight to foster change. I feel that psychotherapy is a collaborative experience, and that we participate in a journey together. The therapeutic relationship provides opportunities to examine past and current relationships with others and with the Self. I believe in the power of the “here and now.” By observing and reflecting upon what occurs within a session, we are able to examine and work through the deeper conflicts that occur in your life outside of therapy. By becoming mindful of the feelings and experiences that occur in the safe, contained space of the therapy room, light is shed upon deeply rooted impulses, losses, wants and needs that are often denied and locked in the shadows of the psyche. I respect the difficulty of undertaking the therapeutic journey, and therefore consider myself challenging yet empathic. I consider myself an active therapist, yet the session is not about me…the session is your time. I work with adults and adolescents on an individual basis.

When life gives you lemons ... what do you do? Whether you believe we choose our own circumstances, that there is a master plan, or that sometimes sh*t happens, you still have reactions, feelings, and decisions to make about "what next?" It is NOT YOUR FAULT you have problems stemming from your past, and it IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to create your future. If you knew HOW to do that, you would probably not be looking for a therapist! I will help you design a positive life, REGARDLESS OF YOUR HISTORY. I trust and respect your ability to make good choices and decisions, when you are able to pay attention to your inner voice, your sense of who you are at the core. I will help you discover, re-discover, or create your true self, so that problems in your life become opportunities for growth. I sometimes conduct sessions that are not framed by the clock, working with individuals or couples until a natural stopping point. This flexible scheduling allows for resolution and re-direction in a more time-friendly manner. I help couples learn to value and appreciate the differences that have been driving them apart, and to regain the loving feelings that brought them together. I help those with a medical condition deal with the anger, depression, frustration, and other feelings that are associated with illness, and I also provide a safe place for their family members or significant others to deal with their own feelings and concerns. My office has a calming, Zen atmosphere, a soothing and pleasant environment. I am no longer on any insurance panels. If you wish, I provide statements for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement of a percentage of fees.

When Life Gives You Lemons ...
Lemon-Aid Counseling
When life gives you lemons ... what do you do? We don't always choose our life circumstances, but we CAN choose what to do with them. Relationships are complex. Even if you were not previously married and have no kids, each of you still brings a LOT of other people with you -- your parents, siblings, previous dates, friends, grandparents, sometimes even media stars -- that create a VERY crowded room! Add to that any individual stress, anxiety, medical condition, life transition, eating disorder, or addiction and it is a miracle you have gotten as far as you have intact! I will help you understand what is causing your relationship problems and what to do to fix them. You will learn Emotionally Intelligent Communication that can improve all your personal and work relationships. Whatever sadness, despair or challenge you face, it is my honor to help you come to terms with your issues and make life-affirming choices to bring you more joy and contentment, transforming life's lemons into something sweet.
