Dr. Chapline is highly skilled at the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Clinical Hypnotherapy, Ego State therapy and psycho-education. She will use her vast repertoire of additional modalities based upon a particular client's need. I enjoy my work! I love the field of psychology because it is so vast. I care about helping people move toward psychological wellness and motivating and inspiring them to reach goals. If Nothing Changes, Nothing Changes!
Taking the first step...
I believe in taking a holistic approach to counseling. Since most issues are interrelated, positive change in one area begins a ripple effect of change in others. My training and over 25 years of clinical experience is diverse, addressing issues related to relationship problems, anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, grief and stress. In addition, I offer two women's groups and an individualized Anger Management Program. Since 1995, I have been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Human Relations at the University of Oklahoma. Courses taught include, Understanding Addictions, Stress Management, Chemical Dependency, Human Emotions and Advanced Counseling Skills. One of the most effective interventions I use is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, (EMDR). It is enormously successful in treating PTSD and is often used with complicated grief issues. EMDR came to Oklahoma in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing, on April 19, 1995. This tragedy resulted in widespread trauma and grief, throughout the state. A team of volunteer EMDR therapists immediately flew into Oklahoma City and worked tirelessly for several months, providing this therapy to victims, survivors and rescue workers. I was fortunate to have been in the group of 300 licensed therapists who were trained to carry on their work. As a result, I became certified in EMDR and have incorporated it into my therapy practice. It has allowed my clients to more effectively cope with and resolve a wide variety of issues and problems affecting their quality of life. EMDR continues to be one of the fastest, most valuable resources for individual healing. I am a Licensed Marital & Family Therapist, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Master Addictions Counselor and a Certified EMDR Therapist. My practice utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy, showing the connection between thoughts, feelings and behavior. I also offer assertiveness and stress management training, in addition to chemical dependency counseling and chemical dependency interventions.

Couple and Individual Therapy
I welcome individuals and couples from traditional, non-traditional, heterosexual and lgbtq ifestyles who live in the Northern California Bay Area. My areas of specialization are EMDR for trauma resolution and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. I am Certified as an EMDR Therapist by EMDRIA ( the EMDR International Association) and Certified as an Emotionally l Focused Therapist by ICEEFT ( The International Center for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy). My style reflects a synthesis of cognitive, body-centered (somatic), emotionally focused and psychodynamic approaches to couples, individual and group therapy. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: Many people who suffer from low self esteem, anxiety, symptoms of trauma or relationship struggles also grapple with negative core beliefs about themselves. Some of the common negative core beliefs include: I'm a bad person, I'll always get it wrong, I'm defective, It's my fault, I'll never feel safe, I'm helpless, I'm stuck and I don't have any choices. Those beliefs usually come from a time when we were profoundly overwhelmed by a frightening, chaotic or unpredictable situation. A type of therapy called EMDR which stands for ( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) can be a way to turn around those beliefs and create a new adaptive way of seeing oneself that is grounded in a healthy adaptive adult view of reality. In addition to EMDR, I often incorporate body-centered ( somatic) therapy. Somatic therapy is a way to study how we form our habitual body-based patterns- some of which work very well and others that are not working so well in relation to ourselves and others. In the process, we can learn how to create new ways of organizing ourselves in a muscular-skeletal way that result in greater options and choices in how we live our lives. COUPLES and FAMILY THERAPY: One of my specializations is Emotionally Focused Therapy- an evidenced-based approach to helping couples and families tap into their emotions ( the good, the bad and the ugly) and create a solid foundation for deep, resilient, intimate emotional healing and connection based on trust and understanding.

We will also discuss fees. In our first session I will go over the inform consent and office policies with you and will collect data for the intake. I will become very involved with you and we will work as a team. I will ask you what your goals are and after a couple of sessions, I will discuss the treatment plan with you. Understand yourself better, become more free and fulfilled
My practice is trauma-focused, psychodynamic and relational
As your therapist, first and foremost I will respect the courage of your decision to seek therapy and create a foundation of safety, acceptance, and collaboration. I strongly believe that symptom reduction (e.g., anxiety, panic, constant worrying, depression, high stress levels, complex PTSD), and an exploration of the root causes of your most distressing problems are both vital aspects of a helpful therapeutic experience. I foster a therapeutic relationship that honors my clients’ conscious minds as well as feelings, symptoms, and behaviors that they may find confusing and painful, but may be clues to presenting problems. I also consider my clients' current life situations holistically, collaborating with them to explore physical, nutritional, general life style, social support, and self-regulation issues to find areas of resilience as well as those that could be strengthened. Presently, I work with late teens and adults of all ages. I work with clients who struggle with symptoms which may be the aftermath of loss, abuse or other difficult experiences, or are simply perplexed with why they repeat distressing patterns which cause them pain. My clients may enter therapy to explore "why they have such difficulty regulating their emotions", or, "why they continue to pursue relationships that are ultimately painful", or, "why it's so hard to feel anything"; they may also enter therapy to receive assistance with specific issues such as life transitions, relationship difficulties, and work or academic problems. I also specialize in the impact of past and current interpersonal trauma or loss on parenting capacities, and assist my clients when these experiences interfere with being loving and supportive parents in the present. My work blends relational psychotherapeutic approaches, trauma-focused assessment and treatment, and psychoeducation for both clients and their families where appropriate. My trauma studies, which included EMDRIA-approved advanced EMDR training, as well as principles of Internal Family Systems and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, have solidified my longstanding belief that therapy must often go beyond talk and attend to messages from our physical selves that may provide clues to where we are most "stuck". While I have been trained in several modalities and my approach is eclectic, I will meet you where you are presently to address the problems that are most distressing to you.

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” Unknown. “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.” Anonymous Hi. I understand that when you're hurting, you need understanding and sensitivity. You might be struggling with a difficult psychological disorder or just need help untangling the complex web of life. Therapy is not a “one size fits all” discipline and fitting treatment to my individual client's personality and needs is a hallmark of my practice. I am skilled in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing,), Hypnosis, Past Life Regression, Relationship Counseling, or regular talk therapy, and will apply whichever technique or techniques in our sessions that promise the greatest benefit to you. The following are some of the issues I work with: Depression, relationship issues, anxiety, chronic pain, divorce, gay/lesbian issues, grief, OCD, spirituality, trauma, dissociation, family and sexual problems. Psychologist/Psychotherapist/Hypnotherapist: all age groups
Past Life Regression and Future Life Progression Therapist
I have been privileged to serve people, dealing with life issues, at different stages of their growth. Helping children overcome their abuse, anxieties, depression, relationship issues, to name a few, through psychotherapy was where I started. That also led to working with adults i.e, parents, grandparents. With Children I used also Play therapy and Activity group therapy. Thus working with all the different age groups was an outcome of the family therapy. This also led to working with parents by themselves without children's presence. I have used Hypnotherapy since 1980's including regression in this life time. Since 1995 I had been fortunate to work with Dr. Brian Weiss, the author of Many Lives, Many Masters. There, at the Weiss Institute, I have extended regression to past lives as well. Since 2002 I have been in my own private practice.

Change and growth are often preceded by some difficulty, personally, professionally or in relationship. I congratulate your willingness to get support in overcoming the challenges you are facing. My intention is to assist you in living from genuine strength and authenticity. I will help you resolve problems and achieve happiness. In our work together, you will discover that difficulties and obstacles in life are often blessings for in reality we grow through adversity. This process of growth liberates energy bound in unresolved issues, so that energy can be used to create a life of your own design. I employ a learning paradigm. A learning paradigm does not presume anything wrong with you -- it simply presents things you can learn to make your life more easeful and productive. I utilize a spiritual psychological approach that is based on the understanding that our true essence is spiritual and that our body, mind and emotions are vehicles for spiritual expression. This essence is present in every moment and we have the opportunity to connect with and respond to its guidance. You will discover that every psychological limitation or difficulty provides a special kind of opportunity -- to see where you have lost touch with essential aspects of your being and to recover these lost parts of yourself. Once recovered these energies can be directed toward creating a life that is rich and satisfying. Reach out if you are interested in exploring possibility beyond what you currently can imagine, to actualize a more joyful, peaceful life. NOTE: I am an out-of-network provider. Specializing in LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Therapy

We all deserve to feel seen, included, and understood, no matter who we are. As a LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist, my aim is to help you better see yourself in all aspects of who you are, feel more included in relation to those around you, and experience a greater understanding of how you fit into a wider world. Maybe you’re exploring your non-binary gender for the first time. Maybe you’re supporting a transgender family member or partner. Maybe you’re working through relationship challenges as an LGBTQ+ person. Together, we can explore what “seen,” “included,” and “understood” mean for you and how you can achieve them. As a queer and transgender person myself, supporting other LGBTQ+ folks is my personal and professional passion. I strive to create safe, inclusive, judgement-free spaces for clients to explore, heal, and grow. While therapy can be hard work, I'm prepared to work as hard as you are and I'll be there to affirm and support you through the whole process. Reaching out for help can be scary. You're more than valid to feel this way and you’ve been through so much to get this far! I believe you have amazing strengths and vast resources within you and that our work together can help you unearth them. I’m trained in the therapy process, but you’re the expert of your own life. I look forward to learning from you.

We all need a little help sometimes. Whether you need help with a current issue that is causing you distress or want to work on a life-long problem that you struggle with, I provide a safe, non-judgmental place to work on what’s bothering you. I believe that everyone has strengths. Whether my client is an individual, couple or family, I help them by identifying what is working in their life, what isn’t and how we can work together to make changes. I have worked with many families and individuals through Family Service Agency of San Francisco, WOMAN Inc. and Bay Area Community Resources in Marin. Through these agencies I had the opportunity to provide therapy for children ages 6-17 and their families as well as women who have experienced domestic violence.

I practice Affect Regulation Therapy which is effective for anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, etc. My special niche is Addiction; i do prevention, intervention, and maintenance. The most successful forms of therapy are those that stress the relationship between the therapist and client. As a scholar of brain development (under the tutelage of Dr. Allan Schore), I have learned that an attuned relationship between therapist and client can actually change the brain; that is, it can create more connections between the synapses, thus improving the mental health of the individual. I do both long-term and short-term psychotherapy and I get spectacular results~~

Be Mindful Now
Each individual or couple is unique. For this reason my approach is eclectic and combines a family of origin approach with a humanism/existentialism. More importantly I like to investigate patterns that are repeated in our lives and how we can locate the payoffs for those patterns. In my opinion psychotherapy is a way to build trust with another individual, explore the reasons we have for our actions and discover whether these actions match the life we are living now. Once the client and I have a strong therapeutic alliance, we can find a way for the client to make positive changes while feeling supported. In addition I am certified in EMDR and use Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy to relieve symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Marriage & Family Therapist
Alameda, CA 94501
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
I am an independent practitioner in Alameda, CA. My specialties are marriage counseling, individual counseling, and facilitating "Dream Appreciation Groups". In individual and marriage counseling, we address the stumbling blocks affecting your current life circumstances. Our sessions are client-centered, lively conversations. During the first and second sessions, we usually talk about what you'd like to accomplish in your therapy, as well as historical information that will help paint a full picture of your life journey to the present time. Of course if you are in crisis, we will concentrate on this situation first, and then we will tackle the less critical, but just as important, reasons for your decision to enter therapy. My approach is humanistic in that your sessions are individually tailored to You, the only person(s) like you on earth. I've found that EMDR, a therapeutic approach, has been extremely effective for alleviating painful struggles (including for trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance abuse) more quickly than traditional or psychodynamic methods—but, once again, you will be able to decide how you want your sessions to move forward. I also do non-psychotherapy dream groups for people who would like to explore their dreams in a confidential and safe social environment. Although the groups are not psychotherapy, they are usually very therapeutic—people participating in these groups have experienced growth on many levels, that is, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. If you believe that you would feel comfortable in any of these settings (individual, marital, or group), I would be glad to meet with you so that we can see whether we're a good fit together. I hope to hear from you soon!
