Create a Life You Love Living

If you are sitting on the fence trying to figure out what to do in life you may be feeling paralyzed. You can get out of this painful paralysis by connecting to your internal compass. If you wait until you feel better or more confident you might end up waiting a lifetime before taking action. I ask you, "Who's driving your bus?" I can help you get back into the driver's seat of your life and get moving in the direction of your heart's desire. When we’re in these situations, our mind easily goes into overdrive, desperately trying to figure out what to do to ‘make the right decision’. The problem is, it can take days, weeks, months - or even years in some cases, such as unhappy marriages or fulfilling jobs – before we finally choose one option over the other. And, in the meantime, we can easily spend our days wandering around in a thick psychological fog – endlessly pondering ‘Do I or don’t I?’ – And, in the process, we make ourselves anxious or stressed, and we miss out on life right here and now. I specialize in helping people whose lives have been touched by catastrophic acts of violence and are ready to create a life beyond loss and trauma. Even if your life has not been touched by violence those little traumas you have endured can add up to a cumulative damage which can be easily resolved so you can focus on a direction of your choice.

Counseling for All
It can be challenging to address our mental health, especially when society, our families, and our culture tell us it's taboo. I specialize in working with adults and teens in the Denver area from various cultures, backgrounds, sexualities, and gender identities who experience stress, trauma, and life adjustments. I work with individuals who are challenged with anxiety, relationship concerns, and substance use, and those in need of school and career counseling. I also work with individuals who struggle with women's issues including postpartum anxiety and depression, and infertility. I find that a combination of narrative therapeutic techniques and cognitive behavioral therapy provides individuals with the self-esteem, confidence, and ownership to approach life's challenges.

AASECT certified sex therapist
Specializing in queer identity and consensual nonmonogamy
When we understand ourselves and our desires, we access our power. I help you learn what you want, and clear the obstacles out of your way. When the unconscious dictates our thoughts and behaviors, we are adrift in its hidden urges, fears, and conditioning. Getting to know ourselves brings these mysterious workings into the light, so that we can choose what we do with them. If you're feeling lost at sea, I can help you find your boat and compass. Once you're back at the helm, riding out the waves can be exhilarating! Gender and Sexual Expansion I know that in navigating the world as a queer person, it can be challenging to find the right fit in a therapist. Whether you identify as non-binary, trans, genderfluid or anywhere on the spectrum of non-heteronormativity, it's critical to talk with someone who gets it. When it's time to further explore a facet of your identity, sexuality or relationship, you can feel safe expressing yourself with me as you are without your therapist assigning your struggles to your lifestyle or identity. I counsel sex workers, individuals in polyamorous or other consensual non-monogamous relationships, and participants in kink or BDSM lifestyles. When you walk into my office, you can rest assured that you will be met with compassion and non-judgement.

I believe in a holistic approach to mental health. This philosophy focuses on moving towards core values and learning to recognize behaviors that prevent us from seeking those values. I practice Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques, which use acceptance and mindfulness strategies together with commitment and behavior change strategies to increase psychological flexibility. We can use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to manage issues like anxiety, depression, and stress. Interpersonal psychotherapy and insight-oriented therapy are other treatment modalities that are helpful when dealing with social skills challenges. I also offer Walk & Talk Therapy. This style of therapy has been around for several years, and it is a big contrast to sitting on a couch talking about problems. More evidence is pointing to the connection between the mind and body. Because movement improves our physical health and mental clarity, this type of therapy is very effective for those people who feel stuck.

Are you longing for… Less conflict in your relationship? Better communication? More closeness? A better way to express yourself? Marriage counseling can help you get back the loving feelings you once had. It can help you resolve the same fights you have over and over. It can strengthen your attachment bonds so that you feel secure to express yourself. With safety comes connection and intimacy. Whether you’re surviving an affair, considering divorce, or just looking for the deep feelings of love you once had, I can help. I am, Lucille Zimmerman, a trained EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) marriage therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor . As a model of therapy, EFT is respected widely in the field, as is the therapy co-originator, award winning psychologist, Dr. Susan Johnson. Dr. Johnson developed EFT with Dr. Les Greenberg in the 1980′s. Over the past 30 years many research studies have proven EFT works. EFT is a short-term model! In EFT research studies, most couples (over 70%) turned their relationship around (from distressed – no matter how distressed – to happy) in 15 – 20 sessions and over 90% of couples “significantly improved.”

Assessments and Interventions for Autism and Aspergers
Do you suspect that you or a family member may have Autism or Aspergers? Has the diagnosis been confirmed, but you need help dealing with social, emotional or behavioral issues? I offer diagnostic evaluations for children, adolescents and adults suspected of having Autism or Aspergers (evaluations include the ADOS and ADI-R). In therapy, we address emotion and behavior management, social and daily living skills, and life transitions. Clients build social, empathy, perspective taking, communication and problem solving skills. I have enjoyed working with individuals with ASD and their families for over 20 years. I use a variety of intervention strategies including TEACCH, Social Stories, Comic Strip Conversations, PECS, role play, and social autopsies. Caregivers receive support and assistance for dealing with behavior problems and developing strengths. My experiences with people with ASD and their families have been in residential facilities, schools, home-based therapy and traditional office-based therapy. I have published in the field of autism and enjoy public speaking about Autism and Asperger's related topics.

Kara Mcartor, M.A., Ncc
Hello! Welcome to Balance Counseling, LLC. I am Kara McArtor, MA, NCC and I am the owner and sole operator of Balance Counseling, LLC. I offer both couples and individual counseling as well as counseling specific to substance abuse and dependence. Why "Balance"? Balance Counseling, LLC was named for a common challenge I have observed so many individuals and couples struggling with: Balance. Merriam-Webster dictionary offers the following definitions for the word 'balance': "mental and emotional steadiness," "an aesthetically pleasing integration of elements," and "stability produced by even distribution of weight on each side." Do you feel steady, pleased, stable, and as if each area of your life is balanced with the others? In your relationship, are your needs balanced with your partners? Do you know what these needs are? These are great questions to explore with me in counseling.

AYCMARC for busy and nocturnal people.
We are open when everyone else is closed
Hi my name is Mark Miller, CEO and lead therapist At Your Convenience Mental Health and Relationship Counseling of Denver (AYCMARC). I designed AYCMARC is for busy and nocturnal people. We are open when everyone else is closed. AT AYCMARC we believe that Your day off is your day off and should be used for fun, Not Therapy! At AYCMARC you can receive quality mental health counseling, addiction counseling, career counseling, and relationship counseling and/or mental health assessment, career assessment, and psycho-neurological assessment at your convenience. At AYCMARC we know that life happens when most mental health, addiction, career, relationship counseling, and assessment practices are.open. We Also understand you cannot leave early without risking your job. Until now your only option was to race to the counseling center after work so you are not over 15 minutes late and turned away because of your tardiness, but are still expected to pay for the session. The last choice is not receiving the help you or family needs. This may be fine for some people, but what if you court ordered? What if you cannot handle or cope with your issues without professional help. At AYCMARC we believe that you should not have to suffer because of inconvenient mental health, addiction, assessment, career, and relationship counseling practice hours. AYCMARC recognizes that you are busy after work taking the kids here or there, trying to get supper ready and other chores. At AYCMARC we know how hard it is for you to squeeze counseling in the mist of all this. This is one of the reasons why we are open late; for the busy person and family who wants to heal or strive for wellness. AYCMARC also realizes that some people work late at night, your nights are days and days are nights. Research on sleep is clear there needs to be consistency with a sleep schedule. Inconstancy of sleep hour can cause insomnia. It is no wonder why you have sleeping problems because most mental health, addiction, and relationship counseling practices are making you get up in the middle of your night on your day off.

Online Mindfulness Therapy Via Skype
Talk to a Therapist Online
I offer Mindfulness-based Online Therapy via personal Skype sessions for the treatment of anxiety, depression, emotional stress, addictions and other forms of emotional suffering. Online Mindfulness Therapy is particularly effective for anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, social anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia and depression. Mindfulness Therapy is also very effective for managing traumatic experiences including emotional trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This online therapy service allows you to talk to a therapist online in real-time, but from the comfort of your own home or office and at a time that is convenient for you. Many of my clients live abroad or in rural areas where it may be difficult to find a psychotherapist to work with. All you need is Skype and PayPal and a quiet place for your online therapy sessions. Mindfulness Therapy is very focused on changing the underlying process that produces anxiety, depression and stress. Clients learn how to stop negative habitual reactive thinking, which is the first phase of Mindfulness Therapy. The second phase involves resolving the underlying emotions through the transformational effects of mindfulness. Most people see dramatic improvement within 3-4 sessions of online mindfulness therapy. In general. this approach is far more cost-effective and produces results in far shorter time than older styles of "talking therapy" where the client simply talks about their emotions. this is obviously an important part of psychotherapy and counseling, but not enough to transform the underlying reactive processes that produce the anxiety, depression or addiction. In order to produce lasting change you must learn how to form a non-reactive relationship with your emotions or traumatic memories based on mindfulness. Mindfulness is defined as the combination of intentional conscious awareness with compassion. This latter quality is immensely important for healing emotional suffering and that is why we emphasize making friends with your emotional pain. This is an art and mindfulness therapy teaches you exactly how to do this. If you would like to schedule an online therapy session and you would like to talk to a therapist online via Skype you are very welcome to contact me to discuss if this is a good approach for you. Therapy sessions are usually 60-90 mins. Talk to a therapist online via Skype for effective help with anxiety and depression.

Certified Master NeurOptimal Neurofeedback
Are you needing a reliable, safe to resolution of your current suffering? Current understanding of brain science is clear: talking about your problem is not enough to resolve it because of how trauma protects itself and re-focusing on it over and over only makes it worse. Dr. Bessell van der Kolk of the Trauma Center in Boston, a key figure in the trauma resolution world now uses neurofeedback because he realizes that it directly helps the brain re=-set itself after trauma. This is the age of the complex, adaptive brain... We discovered about 15 years ago that our brains do not work the way we had been told. Our brains (or Central Nervous Systems {CNS} to be more precise) don't stop developing at around 18 years of age as we had believed for a couple of centuries. Our CNS is completely adaptable throughout our lifespan. This is great news for anyone who has had to live with the limitation imposed by a condition like OCD, depression, anxiety, poor focus, ADD/ADHD, stage fright, social interaction fears and on and on. All these conditions are the symptoms of a CNS that is overwhelmed and not functioning as it is meant to. Our CNS is so adaptable and resilient that IT is able to can change how it behaves, or mature, based on its own experience! So now we can listen to how the brain is behaving moment to moment and any time the brain (CNS) is misbehaving by using too much energy to accomplish its survival tasks, we can give it feedback in its own language that is just malfunctioned (using too much energy to deal with whatever is happening) and it takes that information and shifts to a more effiicient mode of behavior. And by training your CNS to do this over and over, you are calmer, more present, and able to deal with stressful situations that would have made you upset and lose energy. This approach is called NeurOPTIMAL® Neurofeedback and with more than 5 millions hours of client training, has proven that it is the safest, non-invasive, most effective approach to brain training available today.

Treatment for Anxiety, Trauma and Relationship Problems
I work with clients to help them find solutions to their problems, develop improved coping skills and build a solid foundation for thriving and success. I believe that counseling should not become a crutch. Rather, I am primarily solution focused and believe that counseling should address past issues and experiences for the purpose of determining how they impact your current responses to situations, contribute to your emotional well-being, and shape your path to personal success. From that point forward, counseling should foster growth, independence and thriving. Whether you are feeling bogged down by anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or issues that you have struggled with throughout your life, the way you feel internally radiates outwardly. When you feel good, your relationships will improve and you will have a sense of direction and empowerment. My counseling approach works to improve perspective, and teach tools to build upon pre-existing strengths. I specialize in working with people who are seeking treatment for anxiety or depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, relationship challenges, and parenting difficulties. I teach more effective ways to respond to and manage feelings, gain clarity about sense of self and purpose, and change negative thought patterns into more positive productive thought patterns. Ultimately my approach aims to improve sense of well-being, purpose, perspective and quality of relationships. Everyone possesses strengths that can help them through their struggles and guide them to rewarding and fulfilling lives. Learn to harness your strengths so that you can achieve the happiness you desire! Call for a free 20- minute consultation to determine if I may be of help to you.

Dr. Susan L. Hollander, Ph.D., is a distinguished psychotherapist in Englewood, Colorado, specializing in depression and anxiety therapy. With over 40 years of experience, Dr. Hollander provides compassionate individual therapy and counseling to help clients navigate life's challenges, including grief, trauma, and personal growth. Her approach is designed to transform lives from the inside out, offering both in-person and online psychotherapy sessions. Known for her exceptional listening skills and deep empathy, Dr. Hollander creates a safe space for clients to explore their emotions and achieve lasting change. Whether you're struggling with sadness, worry, or regret, Dr. Hollander is dedicated to helping you find clarity and peace. In the beginning… Walking into my office, the first thing you’ll see is a wall of books. Some folks ask me if I’ve read all of them; my answer is mostly. You’ll sit in a comfortable chair and be followed into the office by my therapy dog, Shylo, a golden retriever. He’ll sit near your feet. We start wherever you are right now. Maybe you feel anxious, confused, depressed, or all three. Perhaps there is no word for how you are feeling. You’re lost and don’t know what else to do. You’ve tried everything and maybe worked with a different therapist… or two. But nothing ever changed. So, you slogged through your days, being silently overwhelmed and unhappy. Wherever you are is the perfect place for you and me to begin. What you’ll get… You and I will start together, always beginning at wherever you are. Whatever is on your mind is where we start. You will come out on the other side of therapy and learn to identify what has held you back from the life that you want. But that’s not enough. Wherever you are stuck, you’ll learn how to move through the stumbling block. You’ll get to be the person you’ve always wanted to be but didn’t know how to get there. As a result, you will gain clarity, peace, and confidence – and be free from that inner critic who constantly nags you. Finally, you will have freedom from the past. More importantly, you’ll get a therapist who wants to listen and understand, can walk in your shoes, and knows how to move you forward.
