Online Psychotherapy
I offer an alternative to traditional in-office therapy through secure, HIPAA compliant video sessions on doxy.me. My practice is rooted in accessibility, compassion, and integration, making therapy available to anyone seeking growth, healing, or clarity no matter where they are. I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the complex emotional patterns that shape our lives. As an Integrative Therapist, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches including cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, mindfulness-based, and humanistic frameworks. This allows me to tailor each session to the unique personality, needs, and goals of the individual. Rather than adhering to a single model, I help clients uncover what truly works for them, whether it’s developing insight into the past, learning new coping skills, or cultivating emotional regulation in the present moment. My approach emphasizes authenticity and collaboration. I believe that therapy should be a safe and supportive partnership where you can explore your story without judgment. Many clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. Together, we work to transform those feelings into understanding and action. You will find that our sessions balance structure with flexibility, allowing space for both emotional depth and practical problem solving. Online therapy offers the utmost convenience, privacy, and comfort. Sessions can be scheduled at times that fit your lifestyle, removing the obstacles of travel, traffic, and scheduling conflicts. Many clients appreciate the ability to connect from their own home or private space, where they often feel more relaxed and open to self-reflection. For individuals who are apprehensive about visiting a therapist’s office, telehealth creates a sense of safety and ease that encourages engagement and progress. Confidentiality is central to my practice. doxy.me is fully encrypted, secure, and compliant with all federal privacy standards. You can trust that your personal information and session content remain completely private. Therapy is an investment in your well-being and your future. Whether you are seeking relief from stress or anxiety, working through depression or trauma, improving your relationships, or simply striving for greater emotional balance, I provide a compassionate and nonjudgmental space where real change can occur. My goal is to help you develop resilience, insight, and tools that will continue to support you long after therapy ends. If you are ready to begin, reach out to schedule a session. Together, we can create a path toward healing, growth, and lasting change.

For Your Emotional and Relational Well-Being
My goal is to assist individuals, couples and families to develop emotional and relational well-being. This is done by learning new skills and having experiences so that new feelings and behaviors can be integrated into our life and relationships. When couples come in for marriage counseling they are usually in some sort of distress, frequently one or both not feeing their emotional needs are being met. When stressed people tend to either react or shut down, thus impeding communication. It is also hard for one to empathize and comfort the other when in a stress state. When each learns how to monitor their own stresses and has the tools for alleviating stress, relationships fair better. At this point it becomes easier to dialogue and learn about the other's needs and communicate ours. Indviduals seek counseling or coaching frequently because of stress in relationships. They may be experiencing anxiety or depression as a result. These relationships problems can be in family, at work or with friends. On occasion someone may seek psychotherapy for personal growth reasons, they want to feel they can understand themselves better and improve the relationship they have with themselves. Singles who are looking to find the right relationship also may seek counseling in order to help clarify who they are and who would be a good match for them. At other times people are suffering from trauma that has occurred from childhood wounds or more recent events. Until these wounds and traumas are healed and resolved they may impact the current functioning and wellbeing of the individual.

Are You Feeling Stuck? Anxious? Depressed?
Therapy for Individuals, Couples & Families
The saying "An examined life is not worth living" always comes to mind when I encounter an individual who is mired down in problems and unable to find happiness. That you are visiting this page tells me you have already embarked on a path to address the issues that are stopping you from moving forward. In a warm and safe environment I can provide you with the tools you need to indeed live the life you wish to live. Together we can explore and uncover the obstacles that prevent you from enjoying the relationships you deserve along with the dreams and goals you want to pursue. INDIVIDUAL THERAPY While I use many different approaches in therapy, including talk therapy, I work through an attachment lens which means that sometimes it is important to explore one's past to see how it affects you in the present. I believe everyone benefits from finding new options to address previously self-defeating patterns. I also like to incorporate mindfulness practices into my therapeutic work. My clients have observed that their overall functioning has dramatically improved by practicing mindfulness in their daily lives. COUPLES When two individuals come together I am often reminded of the expression, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." Relationships require nurturing and attention and sometimes with the best of intentions, couples drift apart or arrive at an impasse. I am marriage friendly, LGBTQ friendly, and believe that most couples have the ability to work out their dissatisfaction with one another. Much of the time, with commitment and a desire to rekindle long-lost feelings, couples, with the help of therapy, can master the communications skills they need to find emotional safety and connection in their relationship.

Effective Trauma Treatment with EMDR
My practice specializes in treatment trauma, both individual and complex, with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is an evidence/research model that is successful in the treatment of recent and past traumatic events. EMDR is especially helpful to clients who have experienced trauma given it is not an exposure treatment model and does not required extensive talking about the traumatic incidents. The first two sessions are used to develop a psychosocial history and to identify the specific events to be desensitized with EMDR. Prior to treatment of traumatic events, clients create and practice realization tools to help with the success of the therapy. Traumatic incidents are scaled on the Subjective Units of Disturbance Scale ( 0 to 10) with 10 being the most severe. The goal in treatment is to bring the level of distress for the trauma to 0 or neutral. In addition, I specialize in working with Homicide Survivors, an individual who has had a member of their family murdered. I use the EMDR and the Recent Event Protocol to focus on and desensitize the event for the victim.

Psychotherapy
I am a NY State licensed psychoanalyst. My clinical approach is psycho-dynamically based, which means that I focus on unconscious factors that underlie one's problems. However, I recognize that some problems may respond better to a different orientation. When appropriate, I work eclectically, incorporating other therapy models, including EMDR and hypnotherapy. In my experience, professional orientation is not what matters most in the therapeutic process. Far more important is the quality of the alliance between patient and therapist. I work with a diverse patient population, from children and adolescents to adults, including seniors. Treatment modalities include individual therapy, couples and family group sessions. I provide a comfortable therapeutic environment to work with patients on achieving a secure sense of self, increased self-esteem and a sound relationship with self and others. In private practice for over 20 years, I have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety and phobias, relationship issues, anger management, sexual identity issues, grief and loss. Additionally, I frequently work with bipolar and borderline patients My work schedule offers daytime and evening appointments; my fee schedule is flexible.

Living to the Fullest
As a psychologist and psychotherapist, I believe that psychotherapy is most beneficial when it can address both broad and specific problems and help people find solutions to life's conflicts and stressors. Chronic stress and chronic relational conflicts often become obstacles to leading an emotionally healthy and rewarding existence. Ultimately, I believe the goal of therapy is to enable people to make decisions that will allow them to feel most satisfied, productive and in control of their lives. Likewise, learning to cope with life's everyday stressors, as well as crises can be an important part of psychotherapeutic work. My approach is tailored to individual needs and focuses on building a collaborative dialogue in which to work towards identified therapeutic goals. This includes symptom reduction (anxiety, depression, self-harm), as well asworking with issues pertaining to gender, sexuality, creative blocks, performance anxiety, infertility and parenting issues, among others. Consulting with a psychologist and taking the step forward to begin psychotherapy can be one of the best investments you make in yourself. Therapy is an effective tool to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression, and foster personal growth. Research has shown that psychotherapy enhances overall mental health, and self-esteem. Psychotherapy can also be helpful in making informed decisions regarding real life dilemmas. I provide a safe and comfortable environment in which to explore the subtle and not-so-subtle psychological and emotional factors that influence all aspects of one's life.

Understand yourself better, become more free and fulfilled
My practice is trauma-focused, psychodynamic and relational
As your therapist, first and foremost I will respect the courage of your decision to seek therapy and create a foundation of safety, acceptance, and collaboration. I strongly believe that symptom reduction (e.g., anxiety, panic, constant worrying, depression, high stress levels, complex PTSD), and an exploration of the root causes of your most distressing problems are both vital aspects of a helpful therapeutic experience. I foster a therapeutic relationship that honors my clients’ conscious minds as well as feelings, symptoms, and behaviors that they may find confusing and painful, but may be clues to presenting problems. I also consider my clients' current life situations holistically, collaborating with them to explore physical, nutritional, general life style, social support, and self-regulation issues to find areas of resilience as well as those that could be strengthened. Presently, I work with late teens and adults of all ages. I work with clients who struggle with symptoms which may be the aftermath of loss, abuse or other difficult experiences, or are simply perplexed with why they repeat distressing patterns which cause them pain. My clients may enter therapy to explore "why they have such difficulty regulating their emotions", or, "why they continue to pursue relationships that are ultimately painful", or, "why it's so hard to feel anything"; they may also enter therapy to receive assistance with specific issues such as life transitions, relationship difficulties, and work or academic problems. I also specialize in the impact of past and current interpersonal trauma or loss on parenting capacities, and assist my clients when these experiences interfere with being loving and supportive parents in the present. My work blends relational psychotherapeutic approaches, trauma-focused assessment and treatment, and psychoeducation for both clients and their families where appropriate. My trauma studies, which included EMDRIA-approved advanced EMDR training, as well as principles of Internal Family Systems and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, have solidified my longstanding belief that therapy must often go beyond talk and attend to messages from our physical selves that may provide clues to where we are most "stuck". While I have been trained in several modalities and my approach is eclectic, I will meet you where you are presently to address the problems that are most distressing to you.

Our problems with our friends lovers families and workmates, frequently reflect our struggles with our selves. Feeling stuck, lost chronically angry or unhappy, can result from conflicts and feeling states inside us that we are unaware of. Also, unresolved issues from the past, can result in chronic emotional disruption and pattens of thinking feeling and perceiving that work against us I provide the kind of focused listening and safe, relaxed environment that allows each individual I work with to develop a self awareness and self acceptance that lead internal and external changes. "Therapist to the Therapy"
I am an empathic human being and a highly trained Certified Psychoanalyst, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Credentialed Alcoholism Counselor. I help others manage and resolve difficulties of the heart -- love, loss and work during significant life changes; for example, career change, death/illness in family, divorce, relapse with addiction(s), criminal arrests, loss of work, etc. I am committed to providing high-quality professional assessment and counseling/psychotherapy to people who have not accessed or have had prior unsatisfactory experiences with psychotherapy. I am also committed to travel the lengthy road of psychoanalysis with people who want to take this voyage. A second arm of my private practice is "Second Opinions": Some consumers are in a "stalemate" in their present "therapy"-- where there is a serious impasse and "work" is forfeited. I consult with individuals who can no longer productively work in their current therapy, oftentimes beginning to resolve major impasses. On occasion, the individual's therapist volunteers to be part of this process. In some cases, fruitful work is resumed. In other instances, a decision to leave the current therapy ensues. My interest in psychotherapy is borne by helping clients learn about themselves in seeing things differently—not changing their world, but having new eyes. By engaging in this process one finds obstacles in the past that impinge in reaching one’s full potential in the present. Psychotherapy is helpful in working through such issues by addressing the underlying emotions and bringing them into awareness. One may achieve a sense of inner peace and emotional freedom, making possible more fulfilling relationships with oneself and others. A third arm of my private practice is assistance to criminal defense attorneys specializing in high-profile white collar crime and DWI/DUIs. I have navigated the field of expert witness and prepared confidential psychiatric reports as well as prepleading memoranda to help individuals and their counsel have a win-win situation.

I maintain a general private practice with a specialty in the treatment of trauma, primarily working virtually (over Zoom) with some in-person availability in my office in Montclair, New Jersey. Whether you have experienced a major traumatic event, suffer from from acute or chronic anxiety and/or depression or whether you are feeling frustrated or stuck in repetitive patterns in your work or personal life, effective psychotherapy can help bring about symptom resolution, personal growth, and positive, lasting change. I am an active participant in each treatment and will work relationally with you to address your concerns. I also specialize in the use of more body-based modalities such as Presence psychotherapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) SE (Somatic Experiencing), IFS (Internal Family Systems), and CT (Coherence Therapy). I have found, and current research is validating, how essential a healthy mind/body connection is to facilitating any real and lasting shifts from historic and habituated patterns to new, more adaptive ones, and I have found these modalities particularly effective in this regard.

NYC AFFIRMATIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY LCSW PLLC is a community focused sustainable sliding scale mental health practice in Manhattan providing treatment to individual adults ages 18+. Our mission is simple: provide affirmative psychotherapy in a sustainable way to the community. By affirmative we mean that we do not view individuals from the perspective of being defective or needing to be fixed. We instead recognize the innate strengths that continue to allow people to function while enduring difficult life circumstances. Challenging childhoods and distressing adult experiences, coupled with the toxic impact of systemic oppression, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism and xenophobia impact our mental health. Our goal is to fill a gap in mental health services provided to those that are historically marginalized and disenfranchised; we are especially committed to serving queer communities of color. We also strive to be culturally aware and trauma-informed. And, most importantly, we’re here to help you feel better and make change. Successful clients want to change and are committed to the emotional work necessary to achieve their goals. This takes courage...and if you are resonating with this, you have already taken the first step. I work with individuals, families and couples. My areas of expertise include: PTSD/trauma anxiety and phobias depression adults who were wounded as children relationship issues identity and life crises creativity blocks life goals related to aging ...and breaking negative patterns (be they personal, romantic, platonic, familial or professional) Treatment goals are collaboratively identified and are adjusted based on changing client needs and desires. Often, no single treatment technique is sufficient in helping clients achieve both the intellectual insight and emotional understanding needed for lasting change. Among the therapeutic techniques I offer, alone or in combination, are SENSORIMOTOR PSYCHOTHERAPY, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, EMDR, Short-Term Solution Focused Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy, and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy.. i have trained with some of the leading experts in the field of Psychotherapy. But the MOST IMPORTANT thing that I bring to my clients' healing process isn't what I know. IT'S WHAT I UNDERSTAND.

Stuck In Patterns That No Longer Serve You Well?
Why Aren't Things Working Out Like You Thought They Would?
If you can’t seem to make things work for you, and you want to talk to someone about how to change that, I can help. My job is to provide you with insight into how you get in your way of getting the things you want in life, so you can make changes that will serve you better than the same old same old way of doing things that keeps you stuck in patterns with undesirable outcomes. No doubt about it, change is hard. You’ve been who you are for a long time, and are used to navigating our difficult world in a particular way. The problem is, it just isn’t working. So it’s not surprising that you’re confused, conflicted, anxious or depressed. I have a flexible approach to working with people, since one size does not fit all. My twelve years of training and over a quarter century’s worth of experience working with people has paid off. I’ve learned to listen in a non-judgmental way, and to help you feel safe in revealing your fears, feelings and thoughts, all in your own time, at your own pace. There may be things you want to change about yourself, and other things you want to keep. You get to make all the decisions about who you are and want to be. I’m here to point out what might work better for you, but not to tell you what to do. There’s no magic that can turn things around instantly, but if you’re committed to the process you can make significant strides in a reasonable period of time. I invite you to come in for a no-obligation consultation to see if you feel comfortable talking with me about what in your life is not how you want it to be. If you choose not to continue with me, there's no charge for the consultation.

Work, Relationships and Family Life Can Be Challenging
Active, Creative, Time-Sensitive Psychotherapy Can Help!
Life can be challenging! Are you are longing to feel more connected to your partner, feeling overwhelmed by work, trying to do it all and have no time for yourself? Whether relationship, work or family challenges are troubling you, I can help. Over the years I have developed my own unique style of psychotherapy which is Active, Creative and Time-sensitive. It is active, since I take an "Active" stance and help you figure out what is wrong and how to remedy the problems that are troubling you. The solutions will be derived using both your own and my "Creative" lens which will give you a new perspective on your life. My therapeutic approach is "Time-sensitive." This means that I will work with you to complete therapy as quickly as possible. I tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs. Drawing from a wide range of expertise & experience, we will collaboratively develop the best therapeutic plan for you. I involve clients actively in the process. Time-sensitive therapy is as brief as possible, but the therapeutic relationship lasts for a lifetime. Depending on the issues addressed, some clients may be in therapy for a few months while others may come for a few years. After completing a segment of therapy, over the years, clients often return for a tune up or to consult about a new issue or life challenge. Each time a client returns, therapy tends to be briefer.
